Theresa ~ Thanks for the update.  I posted your comments on the Enterprise N4Ms page so the moms there could also see it.

I wish I could stop crying so I could get something done today.  Godspeed to all in the Enterprise strike group.

My son's ship will be leaving shortly from Norfolk as well and I will be taking the drive down to see him off - This will be a long deployment and his first one. I pray that the deployments go as fast as the visits with them when they are home.  Anticipating a lot of tears, and they've already started....... with just the reading about the Big E, knowing I'll be next - God Bless all our Sailors and especially our families - May their Guardian Angels watch over and protect them while they are away from us.

  • Margee'

Wish my son the best on his last deployment with the ENTERPRISE ....see you soon. MOM   (Love you)

Just a question, can parents get passes to get on base or only my son's wife? We were down to see the enterprise leave and she went with us, but she was sick and wasn't feeling well, she still went with us to get us on base. But I wasn't sure if we could get our own passes?
  • Jess_0411

The only time you can ever go on and off base without a service member or dependent to escort you is for homecoming and when they leave (and that's only if your sailor goes through the proper channels). Any other time, parents cannot go on base unless they are escorted by their sailor and his or hers spouse.

Just adding that to make sure the regulations are clear. I wasn't sure if you were referring to when they leave, homecoming, or just whenever you're in town (:

Well, my son was an "early release" (not his choice) from the Navy.  Sigh...I just want to thank all who have helped me on this group since he arrived up there way back in 2010!

Blessings to all of the sailors and their families in Norfolk!

  • ckmom

diannep,  way back in 2010 is not that long ago, that's is when my son went to boot camp and you helped me get through that toughest time for me.

God Bless and good luck to your sailor.

    Please keep in touch!!

  • duhhuh58 Ship 10/Div 267

i feel for you diannep, my one daughter is out too, in june.  she has wanted out so bad now that it's official she's depressed, go figure.  but i still have on in GL in A school.

  • DebbieinCA

    Hi,

Haven't been on in a while.

Diannep-I'm so sorry for your son and for you! I hope his Navy experience will open some doors for him in the civilian world and all turns out well. (((hugs)))

  • DebbieinCA

Barbara, Love the picture of the ship! :)

  • RosaEdsmom

    Hey Ms. Debbie. :))

  • Hollybear

Please remember posting the month they come home is breaking opesc.  You could cause the deployment to be extended, or worse.... you could give a little info that can be put with a little info from someone else and we could have a real disaster on our hands.  please remember the USS Cole.

  • duhhuh58 Ship 10/Div 267

    hollybear,

we're talking about our kids getting out of the navy, not home from deployment

  • Hollybear

I am referring to people to posted pics of the boat their child is on and then said that they will not see them again until a month.  But that post was removed.

  • Jess_0411

Duhhuh: there was a post on here regarding when a ship came back from deployment. It has since been deleted due to it violating OPSEC.
  • Hollybear

Also, thank you to the person that removed it.   I am not at all trying to be a jerk.  I just know what it feels like to have the schedule extended.

  • duhhuh58 Ship 10/Div 267

oh, i hadn't seen that post.  yep, no last names, no dates, no locations, etc. big no no

  • DebbieinCA

Hello Everyone!!! My daughter will be arriving in Norfolk Sunday. She has been in touch with her sponsor so I hope that he or she is there to welcome her Sunday when we drop her off.  Can anyone tell me where do the newbie's report to or should we get that information from her sponsor?

Sorry for the duplicate posts!!! Computer issues this morning!!!
  • diannep

Thanks, ladies, for the kind words.  I am still on the site, helping in the PIR groups.  I love the ladies on N4Moms--just can't seem to stay away! :-)   They are the best!  My son may be a civilian again, but as he told me:  Mom, I'll always be a sailor and be proud to say that I served my country.

I know that is the way all of our sailors feel.  Proud of all of our US sailors!

  • Cheryl56(Ship11 DIV352)

Hi Ladies,My sailor is on the Iwo Jima and I am going to visit her next week.I am looking to see if there are any family members that will be travelling back to NC after we have "seen them off". I will be staying with my older daughter but due to unforseen circumstances she is now not able to pick me up after I have said goodbye to my sailor! I can not make head nor tail of the greyhound bus service in Norfolk so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • navymom2011

Cheryl, I send you a friend request, my son will be on this ship too.

Have you tried USAA insurance?  It is for military and may be cheaper than your current policy.  If your son is a rider on your insurance, there is no need to change it.  Tags, well, I do not know about that.  A quick call to the VA DMV would answer that for you.  I could not answer that from my own home state.  So I suggest you ask them directly.  As far as his drivers license goes, as long as he is active military, he does not have to change it.  He can, but he does not have to.  I hope this helps.

Going to Norfolk on the 4th of July....does anyone know if the base does anything?

  • DebbieinCA

Momofbp- I hope your son has gotten help by now. His sponsor really dropped the ball! That's awful! By the way, bicycles are very popular in San Diego and on that base. My ex-husband was stationed on that base when we met. Unfortunately, that was 25 years ago and things have probably changed. I know someone who may be able to tell me where the enlisted galley is though. I'll email him now and let you know as soon as I do.

here's a link to an organizatin that might be able to help

  • DebbieinCA

Rosa-I'm so glad you get regular emails from Ed! He's a good son! :)

  • DebbieinCA

momofbp-Here's the webpage for the base. There are some phone numbers you can call.

I wish you the same for the ones that are out and leaving for deployment.  Safe return!!

  • CLAMOM

Hello Norfolk Family!!! So yesterday was my daughter's 1st day in Norfolk. She had to go take a urine test this morning and her room mate went through her bag while she was downstairs and steals her necklace, make up bag and a whole box of juice out of the fridge. She hadn't even had time to unpack that bag so it was in the drawer under her bed. Who do we report this to???

  • CLAMOM

Oh, the room mate was gone before my daughter got back to the room. I guess she was going to her ship.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

CLAMOM, she should report the theft to the barracks staff or and/or the barracks Lead Petty Officer.
  • CLAMOM

    Thank you Marcy!!!

  • CLAMOM

momofbp.....When she called me this morning I was ready to get in my car and drive back to Norfolk!!! And I was thinking like you....you are in the Military and you go through your fellow sailor things and take them!!! WHY??? I told her she can't trust anyone and she needs to lock up everything even if you are going to the bathroom!!! Nothing is safe. I don't think she should be defending our country and getting paid when there are good men and women being booted out of the navy everyday for one thing or the other and she is a THIEF!!!! I can't stand a thief!!!!! Makes my BLOOD BOIL!!!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Re the theft and trying to find the silver lining...this could be a good heads-up for our new sailor to be mindful of both her things and also of getting taken advantage of.  Thankfully, it was only "stuff" she lost (albeit of value to her whether sentimental or $$), and she wasn't harmed nor lost items of high value (computer etc).  The Navy like anywhere, comprises folks of all types, and she needs to be aware of her surroundings and situation always as she goes along - just like we do.  That said, the good sailors outnumber the bad ones!!  Welcome to her and you, and wishing her the best in Norfolk.  The weather's turning beautiful, everything's in bloom, beach season is around the corner and she'll have a great time I'm sure! :)

  • CLAMOM

I will keep you posted. My daughter reported it to the Lead Petty Officer of the barracks.

  • navymom2011

I am just sick hearing about this! I hope she gets her things back. Does she know who did it?? I hope that person gets punished to the.fullest extent, good luck, it makes it hard when they are so far away and we can't help them!
  • CLAMOM

Thanks Marcy for the warm welcome!!!  Navymom2011....they know who did it so its just a matter of them getting her when she reports to her next command. Hopefully she is still in the states.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I didn't want to sound cold but I do believe that a wake-up can be a pretty valuable experience, and women especially need to up their awareness about life as they make their way into the adult world.  I've been robbed, had my house burglarized etc and it didn't make me cynical (much LOL), just aware, and safer.

  • navymom2011

It is just stuff but it was HER stuff and people who steal don't belong in our NAVY! Our home has been robbed twice and it is not a good feeling no matter how big or small the "stuff" is, glad they know who it is and hope they get discharged with a dishonorable discharge just what they deserve!
  • CLAMOM

Yes this was definetly a wake up call for her...she  has been blessed with good room mates and then this bum does something stupid. But like I told her she needed the make up more than she did....I saw a picture of her on her bed...and she was very unattractive...lol....and we can replace the necklace.....My daughters intials are engraved on the back of the necklace. And as far as the box of caprisun's she stole out the fridge!!! I hopes she get choked!!!! HAHA.......thanks ladies for allowing me to vent!!!!

  • CLAMOM

navymom2011...thats what i'm hoping for!!!! Our house has been burglarized too!!! And its a feeling that I will never forget!!! Took all my valuables we worked hard for!!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Please don't gang up on me for calling it "stuff"!  I'm just so grateful she wasn't harmed, that's my #1 concern when I hear about bad things happening.  Stuff can be replaced.  I've lost sentimental items to the bad guys, too.  I did call my son right away when I read this and he's the one who told me who she should report it to  :)  All the best........

  • Jess_0411

I can tell you right now, the Navy won't dishonorably discharge a sailor over some make up, capri sun, and a necklace. There have been people on my husband's ship who have stolen i-pads/ pods, cell phones, and lap tops and they got in trouble and put on double duty or whatever, but not kicked out. Unfortunately, as my husband is very quick to point out to me, just because someone wears a uniform, that doesn't mean they are a good person. Always keep your guard up and keep anything you don't want stolen under lock and key.
  • CLAMOM

Marcy no worries darling!!! I'm just glad it wasn't her lap top!!!! Yall would be reading about me on the news!!!! Navy Mom Snapped!!!! No but real talk....as long as she was not harmed!!!!! It's all good!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Good points Jess.  CLAMOM, just sent you a friend request with my son's contact info if she needs anything :)
