Thank you NavyMom93, my sailor moved in last month and he says they want to take money to cover housing from his next paycheck.
  • Proud AG Mama

Is it PPV or barracks? Barracks they receive $6 and take nothing. PPV they give you $8xx and take that same amount back from you - per my sailor that just left Norfolk.

  • letyrod24

It's PPV,what ever amount his getting they taking back plus an additional $200. That's what his next paycheck is showing. He went to office and was told he needs to talk to someone on his ship.
  • Proud AG Mama

Does he have internet? My sailor said it sounds like 6 mos of internet paid up front.
  • NavyMom93

letyrod, I've never heard of this.  It does seem like my son always needed to buy internet, but that was optional.

  • Proud AG Mama

    yes, internet is optional

  • letyrod24

Thank you ladies. I really appreciate all the info you are able to share with me. I'm new to the whole housing thing. I just hope my son is able to resolve this situation.

For all you moms out there:

My husband and I invite sailors into our home on the weekends to have a place to hang out. We feed them and play board games, watch movies, go minia golfing, sometimes bowling, and watch re-enactments, etc. We'd love to invite your sailor over. If any of them would be interested please give them our info. You can go to our page  this site and find out more about us. And we can pm you our cell number.

Something to help keep your sailor safe and dry!   They can sign up with Norfolk Alerts to get notifications like the Flash Flood warning that went out early today and expires at midnight tonight.  A chief shared this link for signing up:  https://member.everbridge.net/index/453003085612694#/login  "Receive alerts about emergencies and other important community news by signing up for our Emergency Alert Program. This system enables us to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather and public safety information.  You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, mobile or business phones, email address, text messages and more. You pick where, you pick how."

My son is stationed in Norfolk on a sub. He was recently sent to dive school. Does any one know how long this is and if they have a graduation. Thanks

  • Brooke

Quick question, my husband is currently working on a ship that will be going into dry dock towards the beginning of next year. As of right now he gets his BAS deducted, once the ship goes into dry dock will they stop deducting that from his pay?
We rent an apartment so he doesn't live on the ship.
  • abuon18

Brooke, BAS is to pay for the meals provided for him by the ship regardless of if the ship is in dry dock, wet dock or at sea. Unless the Navy is not providing him food (ie when he is on leave) they will deduct the BAS.
  • Brooke

When the ship is in dry dock he won't be living or eating on the ship at any point, all his meals will be provided at home. Will they still deduct this money?
  • abuon18

    If they won't be
  • abuon18

Sorry my phone is touchy :)

If they won't be providing meals, then they shouldn't deduct BAS. Typically when a ship goes into dry dock, they connect to a barge where the Sailors live (or spend the night when they have duty) and that is also where the galley is so meals are still provided. Depending on the maintenence the ship needs there may be a different set up for your husband's ship, but ultimately if the ship is providing meals in some manner regardless of if the individual takes advantage of that, they deduct BAS. If the ship is not providing any meals for whatever reason then they should not deduct BAS.

With the holiday approaching, please let your sailor know that in the Hampton Roads area, there will be DOUBLE DUI CHECK POINTS starting this weekend from 2030-0230.  UBER, UBER, UBER!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

So thankful for all our sailors, and for all of YOU!  Happy Thanksgiving!

  • 1ProudMomofNavySon

I wanted to send Christmas Cards to my son's ship by including them in his Christmas Box. He can then hand them out to his sailor buddies. Is this ok to do or is there another way?

  • Mommamac MM(CVN77)

We were so lucky to spend another Thanksgiving in Norfolk, seeing our son and his friends. We cooked a wonderful dinner for about 35 of his friends and loved hearing about all the experiences they have gone through the past year.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

1ProudMomofNavySon - I can't think of anything better than that; many people include cards in care packages.  Hopefully you're using these priority mail, flat rate boxes so you get the $2 mailing discount for sending to an FPO address!

Mommamac, that sounds great!  You cooked for 35?!  Did you get a medal?  Or at least a coin?  lol  Awesome!
