We have been to Florida, Texas, Mississippi and now Virginia with my son, Naval Aviator.  Toured the base and WOW was it big. Found a good dog watcher a few blocks from the base ! Probably going on his first deployment in August.

  • hockeyx2mama

Good morning, new to the group. Oldest Sailor and his family will be arriving in Norfolk, via Hawaii, very soon.  He does not have a boat yet and is looking for a house in Virginia Beach. Just wanted to say hi and looking forward to having them back on the east coast!

  • John and Yvonne

    Johanna.

What size house are they looking for and do they want to rent or buy? The house across the street from us is going on the market soon.

    Yvonne and John

  • John and Yvonne

And by the way, welcome to the group!

    :)

  • Johanna

Good morning Yvonne and John. Thank you for the welcome! I think they are looking at 3 and 4 bedrooms. They have been in Hawaii for 2 1/2 years, and all of the family is located in New England, so they want a big house for when we all come to visit!! They will be there early next week and still dont know if they are renting or staying in a long term hotel. They say their realtor is looking for rentals, but, so far, no luck. They have 2 subdivisions in mind. I will take a look when I get home and let you know where they are! Thank you for the info...)))

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome Johanna!  A good group on Facebook to join is the closed one called “Navy Home Search,”’ where great networking goes on between Navy folks searching and offering homes for lease and for sale.

  • Johanna

Hi Marcy, thank you for the heads up,,, I’m on it!!!

  • John and Yvonne

Good morning Johanna. Your son and his family have been spoiled! I know we were...we spent two tours of 3 years each in Hawaii and loved it!

And we also lived in Maine for 5 years. :) We love New England also!

I hope they find a nice place...should they decide to buy, the house across the street goes on the market in July. :)

    Yvonne and John

  • Johanna

Hello Yvonne and John! I shared your info with “the kids” and I will keep you posted, and yes, they have been spoiled...))))

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Johanna - I sent you a PM.

  • Johanna

Hey B’sNukeMoM...I am going to sound like a real prize as I have NO idea how to find your PM...yours is the first one I have ever gotten...))) Is it on this page or “My Page”?

  • Johanna

Haha!!! Just needed more coffee!!! I found it, thank you...)))

  • navvvy22

Does anyone know who to call to get where a sailor is specifically based at Norfolk?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi navvvy22 - I think you would need to ask your sailor that directly.  I don't believe there's anyone who would/could give you that info otherwise.

  • barefootie

Hi!  My sailor is in C school in Dam Neck for a while. I am going to visit soon and I am looking for recommendations on where to stay. Navy accommodations are not available.

  • John and Yvonne

    barefootie,

Nice to hear that your sailor is at Dam Neck! My husband and i invite sailors over to our home on the weekends and would love to invite him over as well. If you go to our page on this site you can learn more about us. As far as a place to stay, I can check for you a motel close by the base.

    Yvonne and John

  • Johanna

Hurray...the kids bought a house!!  They must miss us and want us to visit, because they now have 5 bedrooms...:))) They will be in the Greenbrier arera of Chesapeak. Hoping for a move in time around beginning of June and we will visit for about two weeks to help with our Grandson and get them settled! They love the area and spend a lot of time at the Portland Children’s Museum.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Good Morning and Happy Wednesday!

Johanna - that's great news on the house ~ I'll bet you're looking forward to the visit :-D  We visited VA 3 times while B was there and had a fantastic time every visit.  There's a nice aquarium there too.

  • barefootie

Thank you so much. I did find a hotel. It’s very expensive there especially on holiday weekend. I’ll check your page out. He’s there going to C school and leaving for Japan in September

  • jayne

Can anyone with a sailor on the Lincoln that has information on family day private message me please?  I have some questions.

  • Keisha B

Our son and his family will be moving out in Norfolk Area soon. Where is a great place to live?
  • John and Yvonne

Keisha B,  Are they looking to buy or rent? Virginia Beach, parts of Norfolk and Chesapeake are good. They just have to check out those areas to find a good neighborhood.

    Yvonne and John

  • Johanna

Keisha B...our kiddos just moved into a 5 bedroom, five bath home in a great neighborhood in Chesapeake. We spent three weeks down there getting them settle and they absolutley love it!!
  • Lulubugg

    Hi Norfolk Navy Family,

Just a simple Hi and thank you for all different Navy Support Groups, they all have been  beneficial.

My Sailor Girl got to Virginia Beach a couple of weeks ago. I am looking forward to our journey.

    Have a good day!

    Lulubugg

  • juliw

I stopped by to say good bye! My sailor has PCS'd and he's far from Norfolk now. It's a great couple of years here and I really appreciate all the support. Fair winds and following seas!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Wow - we welcome one member and say goodbye to another!

Welcome Lulubugg - my son lived in Virginia Beach and loved it.  He also lived in Norfolk but now he's in Michigan (out of the Navy now).  Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

juliw - wishing your sailor all the best in his new station!

  • Lulubugg

    B’sNukeMoM

Thank you for welcoming me aboard.

I do have a question, is Virginia Beach & Norfolk two different Naval Bases? Or neighboring cities? I live in California and know nothing about the East coast.  In the back of my head I am already thinking when I should plan a trip there ;-} lol! My Sailor Girl seems to be happy at her new home.

  • Eagle

Yes, there are a few different bases, my son is in little river which is in va b
  • Eagle

Oops, sorry, va beach and it’s small. Norfolk is within 30 mins depending on traffic more than distance
  • abuon18

There are a couple of bases in VA Beach. Naval Station Norfolk is the largest in the area. In VA Beach there is Joint-Base Little Creek-Ft Story and NAS Oceana.

The main cities you'll hear about in this area are Norfolk, VA Beach, Chesapeake and Portsmouth. They're all neighboring cities although Portsmouth is on the other side of the river, it's where the Naval Hospital is.

Hope she likes her time in Norfolk!
  • Lulubugg

    @ Eagle 16 .... thank you

@ anion 18 ..... thank you, good to know the hospital is near.

Looking forward to visiting her in VA Beach in the near future

  • barefootie

My son was stationed in Dam Neck, VA
  • AZNuKeGma

Question? We need the name of reliable place to store car, while  on leave. Need to leave car before reports in Oct for first time. Coming from BS in sept

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

AZNuKeGma - I bumped the discussion on CAR FAQs in the discussion forum up above.  Take a look at that and you may find what you are looking for regarding the car storage.

  • misisu

Hi all. I was hoping someone would have information on a good place to get a birthday cake or cookies delivered to my sailor for his birthday. He is in Portsmouth right now. Thanks in advance

  • misisu

What do the sailors do with their cars when there is an emergency sortie - as in hurricain evacuating

  • abuon18

If they are single, sometimes a married buddy whose wife is driving him in will be able to pick him up too. If not, they leave their cars at the pier.
  • Tabitha

Thank you misisu for asking that question. I haven't even thought about that and our sailor is going to have the same issue! I hope someone has an answer.

  • allie1928

Hello...my sailor would park in the parking garage . i think its right off base . he said getting a parking ticket was better than losing his truck.

  • misisu

Thanks allie1928. We recommend the same for our son. This will be his first experience with such a storm.

  • Johanna

Good morning, just talked with my DIL and she said they should be hearing shortly about evacuations...oh darn, that means she will come up here with our only Grandchild to wait out the storm...:))))) Has anyone heard any updates?

  • Tabitha

Hello, Johanna, We are also waiting on updates from our Sailor. We actually live in Va about 3 hours away from Norfolk. I have been following along with their local news. You can find current updates with Wavy 10 news.

  • mom of two

So I have a really stupid question, not to me, but still....lol!!  My son is on a ship that is in the shipyard, he is due to come home on Weds for scheduled leave???  Will he be allowed to leave, or will they mandate him on ship even tho it's in the shipyard?  He was to come home for my birthday, but I don't want him to get into any trouble, so.........he can come anytime, but was just curious????  Thank you for any info!!!!!!!!!

  • Johanna

Hey Tabitha....thank ypu so much...watching as we speak!!!

  • Tabitha

So glad I could be of help. Hope you have a wonderful day.
