Reading everyone's comments and comforted that i am not the only mom freaking out a bit. Stay Strong Moms.

  • Tabitha

Hello, Lulubugg, our sailor is in Norfolk we live about 3 hours away ( have no idea how I got so lucky, but I'm thankful) I have been keeping up with the weather through Wavy 10 weather app ( you can get it on Google play for android or app store on the iphone)  It has great updates and right now is showing a lot of activity un Norfolk. I have been super freaked out too Susy1017 until I started reading and communicating with the ladies here. We have been in contact with our sailor and starting sometime tomorrow we probably won't get to talk to him anymore until after the storm passes. I'm praying for everyone and keeping close watch as I am sure all of you guys are on the hurricane. Hugs to all and hope your each having a great day.

Oh, this is our sons 3rd week in Norfolk as he just graduated A school. So this is really new for him to :)

  • Lulubugg

@Tabitha, it’s my daughter’s 4th week there, after she finished A School. Thank you for the information on  Wavy 10 app.

Good Luck, Huggs to all our Sailors & Moms

Just talked to my Sailor and she was l evacuated this afternoon from Virginia Beach. She is in route with a shipmate  to Baltimore to stay with a high school friend from California. Praying for their safety it was currently rain while we were talking.

  • Tabitha

Lulubugg, praying for safe travels for your sailor.

  • Susy1017

Just talk to my sailor via FB - he’s a bit tired but now on the water officially riding out the hurricane
  • Tabitha

That's so awesome that you can communicate with your sailor while he is on the water. Our sailor says he doesn't have a signal while on the water. :(

  • Lulubugg

Thank you Tabitha she made it safely to  Baltimore

Susie1017 glad your Sailor is safe, that is cool you got to talk via FB

  • Keisha B

Our Sailor and family are still in Chesapeake VA I’m really praying for everyone safety
  • CruAn

My sailor is also in Chesapeake and safe so far.  He's so calm but I'm nervous enough for us both.  I also told him, if he has a buddy that's stranded in the Central Florida area and can't get back to due to the weather, to send them here. Yes, I can take a family.  I have plenty of room. Hotel rooms are $$ and could be non-existent due to others heading south to avoid the storm. If you know anyone that needs a place to stay, please message me.

  • misisu

My son is in Portsmouth and today is his birthday.

They have released all non essential personnel from his command to evac. His roomates have all left the area, and he had to muster this morning, so is going to stay.

I hope there is nothing major happening for our sailors, and pray for those who have to ride out this mess further south.

My second son who is bootcamp right now was allowed to call him last night so that was a nice surprise.

I am hoping that my son will park his car in a garage that has been opened for this even and that he says safe.

  • Tabitha

Our son decided to stay as well. We only live 3 and a half hours away. I'm a nervous wreck!I Cant belive he is staying.

  • D&S✈AirmanMom

My son is up there too! They’ll be okay. It’s turning south.

    Hello, Wiffer peanut!

  • Wiffer peanut

Tabitha Thank you!  I'll be around on this page more when she actually gets out to you.

  • Tabitha

Well wiffer peanut, I look forward to you being here! Not a lot of activity on this page but still nice to be here with other Norfolk families! Just knowing if you post something, someone will respond. Which for me is comforting, because I drive my hubby up the wall from time to time. LOL! :)

  • Lulubugg

    Welcome Wiffer peanut

  • AZNuKeGma

Wiffer peanut our sailor also reports to Norfolk in early October

he just arrived home for leave from BS a few days ago

  • Tabitha

Hello all, I was wondering if you could lift our sailor up in prayer? He was in a car accident last night. He was spending the weekend with his memaw and on his way to her house he fell asleep driving. He hit another car and then hit a tree. This was on a interstate. As soon as he hit the tree, and came to a stop he jumped out of the car to check on the other driver. He is so hurt that he caused an accident. His car is totalled. He is heartbroken because it was his first new car and he was worried about disappointing his dad and me. We pointed out to him this morning over the phone that he was able to hear our voices today and that was a blessing for him and us. Normally he hangs tight with 3 other guys from his ship. Thank God no one was with him, I don't know if the passenger would have walked away from it. Thank you all for prayer. If your sailor has a car and you haven't had the talk with them about driving when fatigue, please do! From one caring mama to another. It is as bad as driving when under the influence. Thank you Jesus that our sailor and the other driver walked away from this with out even a scratch because looking at his car, you would never know. I thank God for His hedge of protection.

  • allie1928

So sorry to read about your son's accident. Glad to hear he wasn't hurt. He is very lucky ....he had a guardian angel riding with him. I will keep him in my prayers .

  • Tabitha

    Thank you allie1928, I couldn't agree more.

  • AZNuKeGma

    Hello all

I have a question. My grandson has to report to Norfolk in early Oct for the first time. He will be driving from BS. He has had trouble finding out where exactly he is to go on base. Is there a welcome center?

  • abuon18

AZNukeGma, he should have a sponsor who is contacting him and giving him the details of where and when he has to report. If they are not getting in touch with him, he should reach out to his command. There is no welcome center. Each command is independent.
  • John and Yvonne

Welcome to all the new Navy Moms and Grandmas!

    Yvonne and John

  • AZNuKeGma

He apparently does not have a sponsor because his sub has yet to be commissioned, the USS New Jersey

  • abuon18

AZNukeGma, this website has a link called "Checking In To Naval Station Norfolk". Recommend you forward this information to your grandson so he can reach out to this contact listed.

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

Oh Tabitha - how scary!  Thank goodness he and the other driver weren't hurt.  I'm sorry to hear his car is totaled but at least that can be replaced.  Boy that is not a call you want to receive.  Again, I'm so thankful everyone is ok!

  • Tabitha

B'SNukeMom, I agree totally. Thank goodness everyone walked away okay. It was definitely a scary phone call and I knew it wasn't good at 1am  in the morning. We told him before this happened to stop driving at night. He said he liked traveling at night because of less traffic. But today he said, "Ma, I'm not driving at night anymore." :) Thank goodness he learned a few lessons out of this. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday. FYI, don't know If the mamas are here but I have some packages that were sent to my home from other sailors mamas. I'm delivering them this weekend. MANY BLESSINGS TO EVERYONE!

  • BetsyJune

Hello, my son will soon be stationed at Oceania NAS. Does anyone else here have family members stationed at Oceania?

  • John and Yvonne

    BetsyJune,

We saw that your son will soon be stationed at Oceana NAS. My husband and I open our home on the weekends and invite sailors over to give them a place to hang out. We feed them :), and play board games, watch movies and do outdoor activities as well. We would be happy to invite you son over to join us! There is a sailor who comes over who is also stationed at Oceana. Check out our page on this site to find out more about us.
