Welcome back Mimi!!! :) I am sad as we have just came home from the airport
dropping Jas off!! :( Hes on his way to his Navy career. It was really hard for
me to let go, knowing it will probably be awhile before we see him again.
Hope all sailors are ok in Meridian saw that had some bad weather there.
  • becky m

Marth Lynn what is your son going to Meridian for as his job?? Don't feel bad about bothering people thats why we have this wonderful place to come to!!! :)
Someone here knows the answer or can find it out for you. Kim I was in your shoes last week saying goodbye to Jas, it is sooo hard to let go!! :( Be a proud Navy mom!! Wow Kendra your boyfriend is flying thru Storekeeper school!! He must really want to see you... :) Good for him!! Welcome to all the new Meridian moms, my son is out of there now but this group holds a special
    place in my heart.
  • becky m

Kim I am so glad Hans has arrived safely!!! How lucky he is to have a sponser to
show him around!! Where my son is he was pretty much on his own for the first day. No one showed him around. Best of luck to Hans!!! Alyse congrats to your son TOO!!! Yay!! :) SEE YA Meridian.... :) LOL
  • becky m

What is his job??? SK's or storekeepers are self taught. That is what my son is
I am not sure about other jobs.
  • becky m

Does everyone have a sponser while they are at thie new duty station?? My son
is having a hard time adjusting, didn't metion a sponser.
  • becky m

SK classes are self taught so its up to your sailor how long he will be in Meridian. Mine finished quickly.
  • becky m

Peggy that justs makes no sense!!! I would be mad too!!
  • becky m

Patti YAY for Elliot!!! Mine didn't mind Meridian to much at least there were kids his own age there!! I don't get how the Navy can run out of sheets just as bad as not working out transportation for them. It all makes no sense to me. My son had to take a cab from the airport to his duty station 45 miles away. Cost him over 100 dollars, said he will be reimbursed..... I wonder???
  • becky m

Karen I am impressed with your son's career choice in the Navy. Good for him!!! :)
  • becky m

Congrats PC enjoy your time with your sailor! Seems like his time in Meridian went quick! justme I am a member of the SK group come join us!!
  • becky m

There is also a chicago moms group too justme.
  • becky m

    Happy Mother's Day to all!!!
  • becky m

Hey Perri that is great news about Bob! Seems like he has come along way in the short time he has been there. Remember how nervous he was when he first got there?? :) A fight or something right?? My son was there and gone in 4 weeks. He's an SK now stationed at Lemoore NAS in Ca. It is possible to get
thru Meridian fast if your sailor is in a self paced class there. Few tips for you guys who sailors are just getting there. When my son was there they could not leave the base alone, buddy system which I thought was a great idea!! If they
do call for a cab they should allow plenty of time for it to arrived to get them back to the base, sometimes the cabbies like to try and make them late.
The best cell phone reception is at the smoke pit. Your sailor will know where that is. :) Lastly there is no point in overnighting anything. USP will not overnight
anything to a base so save your money and 2 day any package. Small boxes
seem to get there quicker that a letter so no matter how small the box send a box!! Hope this has been some help. congrats to all who have PIR-ed or will be soon. Hope someones sailor might be with mine in Lemoore!

  • nancynavymom

Hello all, my son just got to A school, he called last night and was getting settled! Says his group has to stay the whole 60 days!
  • nancynavymom

Does anyone know what kind of Food we can send the boys? He wasn't sure?
  • nancynavymom

I don't know about the Internet, but would like to, my son has been there since last Tuesday, He was able to call from his calling card and let us know he got there, but we haven't heard from him since, we mailed his phone to him on Wed!!!
  • nancynavymom

Oh, and they flew him down! Through Atlanta! LOL
  • mother always

    Good afternoon
Does your son know you sent him the cel? There is an office that gets all the correspondence and packages (as I learned)they make a list of sailors that have mail, they are supose to check on the list. The office is close on weekends.
  • nancynavymom

Yes he does, but don't know if he knows about the office list, or that they are closed on week-ends, thanks for the information!!
  • nancynavymom

Karen, they flew my son from to Atlanta and then on in to Meridian, he said it was the smallest airport he has ever seen! LOL And Mary Ann, I think it depends on what they are schooling for, my son said he will be there the whole 60 days while others will finish way before him, hope that helps! Have a good day!
  • nancynavymom

Finally got to get a text from mine, he has been there just over a week now, says he is "GREAT" Love to hear that, does anyone know what "field day"is??
  • nancynavymom

Thank you, still learning the "Talk" LOL where are you all from? We live in Southern IN
  • mother always

    Good afternoon
"Field Day" they call when they are cleaning.
  • nancynavymom

LOL well that's funny! Thanks for the information, that helps!!!
  • diannep

Do we get the address for A School in Meridian from our sailors? Is address different like bootcamp was, or is there one address. I haven't spoken to my son in a couple of days now, not since he arrived in Meridian on Feb 7th. He doesn't have his cell yet (uses phone cards) but I wouldl like to send it to him. Just wondering if each of you got the address from your sailor.
  • nancynavymom

Yes we did, he used his calling card to give it to us, but said the pay phones were quite away from him, it is different too, I have sent him 3 and his dad 2, but he hasn't received them yet, so I don't know how long it takes the mail.
  • diannep

Thanks, Nancynavymom. I'll have to ask him for it when he calls again.
  • diannep

On the "field day" comment...don't we all wish that we could take a crash course in all of the Navy lingo so we know what our sailors are talking about???? I'm sure they would rather not have to keep telling us what it all means! :-)
  • nancynavymom

I'm off of here for the day, have a great night ladies, and God Bless All our Kiddo's!
  • diannep

Thanks, Sharon. I'm sure he will call home in a couple of days and I'll ask him then. Haven't talked to him since Monday when he had only been there for a day, so he probably wasn't thinking of an address yet.
  • nancynavymom

That is so sweet! I know my son really misses his dog!!!!
  • mother always

There are lots of cats,as my son said.He told me about that one...
They didn't have classes today because of the blizzard. My son has a cold and he called me a while ago,he was resting, thank God
    Have a nice afternoon!
  • mother always

    Good moring
Thank you for the good wishes on my son's health!
The snow he saw in GL and now in Ms is the 1st for him.He told me that yesterday afternoon, they were playing with the snow, throwing snow balls, after that he went to the bedroom to rest.....one of the other 2 sailors that are in the same room brought some movies and lend them to him.
  • mother always

I'm sorry Sandy....CONGRATULATIONS on your sailor and Welcome!!!!
  • diannep

My son is from S. Florida. Snow? Non-existent. He was looking forward to getting to Miss. and some warmer no-snow weather. HA! Haven't talked to him since Monday, but I wonder what he is thinking NOW? I hope that they had some fun in the snow in Miss....I don't think they got to "play in it" in GL.
  • diannep

Also, it's neat to hear about the cats on base. My son is an animal lover (father was a vet!) and I know misses his 2 dogs like crazy. Both are rescues, one he brought home from an animal clinic he worked at in his teens. I hope all of our sailors are getting some fun and relaxation now after the stress of boot camp-
  • diannep

Still waiting to hear from my son again...UGH! No word since Monday night. He doesn't have his cell yet. So, if anything has happened since Monday that I need to know about (info on what's going on), can someone please tell me? HA! My son told me he starts yeoman school tomorrow. Hopefully he'll call later today.
  • diannep

Thanks so much, Grace. I guess they will start school on Tuesday then. Thanks for catching me up on their week!
  • diannep

Karen, I had heard that depending on how well they do in their school, they may have a say so in where they are stationed. Maybe they are told in a week of the many possibilities? I don't know. My son had just told me that those who finish at the top of the class have some choice in the matter. I guess time will tell!
  • diannep

Absolutely, Karen. The NAVY is the BOSS! Maybe the good grades in their class would open up a few places for them where the Navy could equally use them, and then they get to pick. Who knows....my son THINKS he knows where he would like to be, but bottom line...he has no clue!
  • diannep

Sharon, no one has started school there yet? I know my son said that their preliminary "watch" hours had to be completed, signed off on, and submitted to the commanders before they could start school. So I'm wondering if there are different start dates depending on when they each complete these? My son will need to find time to pick up his cell phone from the Post Office. He also needs to get to the Credit Union for some bank business. When will they have time to do this???? Sounds like they will be lucky to have time to eat! And, I vote YES for you to go to Meridian to fix this mail problem! HA! Sounds like they could use a "mother's touch" there! :-)
  • diannep

Thanks, Sharon. I hope my son is able to get his "box" by tomorrow (should be there today) and then have his cell phone. This waiting on phone calls with phone cards is getting harder! I'll be happy when he calls me on his cell because that will mean he got his box...and hopefully can complete his bank business with the rest in the box. Then I can breathe again! You have a wonderful day too! We are loving our cooler weather here in S. Florida....the HOT will be back soon and stays for such a LONG TIME!
