Good morning ladies! I spoke with my son who is an AZ he has heard verbal orders will be in by the end of this week...any other news out there???? Waiting anxiously!
  • AZmom

My son, an AZ, is waiting to class up. He is telling me that the class is not a self paced course and it will be done together as a group and he could be there for up to 5 months. Everything I have read about AZ says it is a self paced course. Are the upper classman just messing with him and feeding him a line or is this true? I was hoping that as soon as he classed up and got started he could get through it quickly so he could move on to his first permanant duty station. Thanks

My son got to Meridian on Jan 20,2010 and left on April 14;he is an AZ.
Right now he is in PR with me On a few days vacations;I just left him a while ago in the recruitment office, because he doesn't want to use all his (few) vacation hours.
He took almost 3 months studying for AZ.
    Nice day all!
  • nancynavymom

Dear AZmom, no it is not a self paced, my son just graduated as well, and yep it took a good 3 mo! sorry!!
  • diannep

Verbals received 10 days ago for my son...still no written. From talking to my son, sounds like many are in the same position. WAITING FOR ORDERS!
  • nancynavymom

    Well lets just keep praying!
  • AZmom

OK well thanks for the info. I hope those of you that are waiting for orders get them soon. Good luck to all of your sailors.

my fiance got his verbal orders today - Hawaii. Sounds like paradise - but I am a little upset. We are getting married when he comes home from A School. We were hoping that he would get stationed in VA so that I could make frequent visits until I am able to move with him (after getting some bills paid off and selling my house). I am worried now because I hear that he has to be an E4 before I could live with him in Hawaii. Anyone that knows how this works please answer or email me. Thanks.
  • maussie64

sschick, If they have an abundance of available housing, they may waive the rule and let him get housing early. They did for my husband and I years ago. It was Amy though.
  • sschick02_new navy wife

that's good to know that it might be a possibility. he is going to talk to someone tomorrow and try to get more information on our situation. I guess if I just had an idea on how long our separation may have to be it would easier to imagine....it's the not knowing the that is frightening. Thanks for your input.
  • nancynavymom

Good luck sschick just keep praying! What position is he?
  • Sailor'sWifey

sschick, im sorry hope everything works out for you. My fiancee just got verbal orders too to WA. I guess I shouldn't complain. Well I'm not, I guess i just have to get used to rainy weather.

Does anyone if spouses can apply at Naval Hospitals and how to go about it? Im a nurse and I just want to make sure I have a job when we get to WA. Thanks!
  • sschick02_new navy wife

He is SH. I called and talked to his recruiting Chief today; he said to have him talk to his Chief there and let him know the situation and that orders can be modified - just have to check. He also said that it might help things along if we were to get married while he is still in A School - so I am waiting to talk to him later today and could possibly be making a fast drive to Meridian this week. I need to find out what the requirements are for a marriage license in MS and are the JOP available there on Saturdays? Do you need an appointment? Only weekdays? I guess I will get started looking - or does anyone know anything about that?

Kae - did you say one time that you and your fiancee are planning on getting married during A School?
  • Sailor'sWifey

sschick - wowwwwwwww how long does he have left? MS requires a blood test for Syphillis in which results take up to 2 weeks! that's standard.. then you apply for your license and they have a 3 day waiting period. they don't waive it for military unfortunately. also they are only open on weekdays... it was so stressful trying to get all of it together and just to find out that my fiancee will be done in 2 weeks so there was no point anymore! We're just going to wait till he comes home for his leave.
  • Sailor'sWifey

You can call them. they can explain it better. LOL

i was just reading that online; doesn't sound like that is going to work for us either then. We already have everything planned for the 8th of May (pending him getting her on time, which looks like he will). So I suppose we will just stick with the plan - the other won't work with the time available. I hope to have better news later today if he gets to talk to his chief. I've been looking at the map of where Hawaii is compared to me - so far! Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies.

My son texted tonight that it looks like his written orders will come in Monday or Tuesday of next week, so he will be out by the end of the week. By then, he will have been waiting 3 weeks since he graduated! Oh boy...
  • nancynavymom

Congrats to the ones wo got the orders!!!
  • diannep

    Pray for written ones, nancynavymom!
  • nancynavymom

    diannep YOU GOT IT!!! LOL
  • maussie64

Ditto for my sailor, please. YN school though.
    Thanks
  • diannep

Maussie: Your daughter graduates this Friday, right? My son's a yeoman also. Many of them got through the self-paced program in 4 weeks. My son took longer...got stuck on Mod 4, the longest and hardest one! There are 15 of them, but the others aren't bad. Seems like the orders for Yeoman are very backed up. Don't know if that is the norm,or if they just had a glut of yeomen. He finished school April 1st...and he still waits...but he is hoping that next week is THE WEEK. Our children may be "passing in the night" as one leaves and the other arrives. Good luck to your daughter!
  • maussie64

Dianne, what is he doing in the mean time?
  • diannep

He said that they still do PT, muster up, and have inspections. They do work detail. He said he and 6 others are at the "hobby shop." Apparently a place where they work on cars...not sure how much they do there. Just doing what they can hoping that they can leave soon!
  • dorie

daughter was supposed to come home friday i thought but she surprised me at work in her white uniform happy day

Blessings and a nice day all!!
  • nancynavymom

I'm still awaitng orders for my son in AZ, anybody hearing anything???
  • diannep

He has his written orders....YAH! Will be off the base by Tues or Wed next week, make a stop in AL to see hubby's family, brother will meet him up there for some "play" time, and he/brother will be home on May 2nd. By then, he will have about 10 days of leave left, but that's enough!
  • diannep

nancynavymom: I don't know about the AZ's, but the YN orders seem to be coming about 3 weeks after finishing school (two weeks after graduation).
  • diannep

    Thanks, Sharon!
  • nancynavymom

Good News, my son said they will get orders on Monday!!! Said there was a bunch of jumping and screaming!!! LOL
  • diannep

YEAH, nancynavymom! They are all so ready to get out of there! My son said there is a big inspection on Tuesday...in dress uniform...taking some kind of piks. He is not sure he will be there for that or not. They are told the day before when they are actually leaving the base, so he says. I say...I'll see him when I see him! No expectations at this point! The Navy knows! That's all I need to know!
  • sschick02_new navy wife

My fiance got his verbal orders last Monday and has some medical thing tomorrow; waiting on the written orders. He graduated the 23rd. I am just waiting to get the word. Then taking off to go pick him up - 8.5 hour drive. Looks like the May 8th wedding might just work out afterall .
  • diannep

sschick: There was a 2 week wait for my son from verbals to wrriten orders being received. Don't know if that is the average. And maybe just a YN thing. I hope that all works out with your wedding! Congrats!
  • sschick02_new navy wife

yeah i was reading that on here. Ugh - it has been nerve-wracking. He is an SH and he said that theres are coming in pretty quick - we shall see. I wonder when they get the written orders, do they have a certain time line to"get out" so to speak. I am planning on driving down to pick him up; but have to take off from work if it is the middle of the week. Its about 8.5 hour drive so plan to leave in the wee hours of the morning I suppose then may just rest a little bit and head back. He said he can't help out with the driving on the way back; something about changing his Drivers License when he reports to duty station. He has made a lot of good friends both in bootcamp and A school. One of them is planning on coming to the wedding. Are we supposed to list last names on here? Was going to see if maybe this guys mom or gf is on here?
  • diannep

sschick: Better not to list last names on here. Maybe just put his first name and and that he is your fiance's friend. SH orders may be different from YN as far as timing. Mine thinks he will be out on Tues or Wed next week...got them this past Fri. Maybe quicker if the orders are issued early in the week rather than on Friday? Just don't know. So glad he made lots of friends in bc and A School...same with mine. He said the best friends of his life. That is so great. Teamwork in the military is a great thing!
  • nancynavymom

Good Nws! Waiting to hear from my son this moring, said they are picking orders today!!!!! YIPPEE!!!!
  • diannep

Great, Nancy! Post when you hear! Exciting times!
  • Sailor'sWifey

My fiance` told me yesterday a lot of his friends are leaving today and he was sad. Poor thing! but he is thankful for Facebook! How I wish they would just all be put in the same duty stations!
  • diannep

Kae: My son said the same thing! It is wonderul that they made such great friendships (and hopefully will stay in touch) but sad that they are separating. But as I told my son, new friendships await at their duty stations (some of his friends will be at his). I'm starting to understand now why those who have been out of the military for a long time still talk so fondly of those days and the friendships. There is such a special bond there. My son said he has never met friends like the ones he has in the Navy. The friendships are just different....and wonderful. Here's hoping that both of our guys make wonderful new friends at their duty stations!
  • Sailor'sWifey

You are sooo right diannep! Thanks, I sure hope so too and i will pass on to him the same message you told your son about friendship :) Well you get to see your Sailor soon... How exciting! Enjoy your time. So happy for you!!!
