Yes, the re-route fee that Massie's daughter paid is the standard military first-time change fee on the ticket issued. My son had to change too...and when he did, he was told that if he changed again, the $150 airline change fee would apply. So make sure that when your sailor changes, they don't change again! They normally are given a airline ticket from Meridian to their first duty station, but of course, most are coming home on leave so that is why he has to be changed.
my son (graduates Oct. 13) got his next duty orders on thursday and the hard copy on Friday. Pearl Harbor, HAWAII..... i sure hope they let him re-route home for a few weeks. Since Hawaii is considered overseas duty he gets 21 days libert. but not sure how everything else works.
anyone with experience with overseas duty please advise.
I'm still in shock, can't believe my son is going to Hawaii. I know where I'm going for spring break this year. ;-)
thanks,
thats great that your daughter like it so far. mike only doesnt like it because he is in holding til the 27th and then he starts classes so that just makes is time there longer
Hi! My Sailor is now in Meridian Mississippi. He loves it. He made it to Mississippi on 9/15/2010. He is really liking all the classes he has had to take. Says he has cool room mates. Has really not said a bad thing about it. Say's that PT is allot of running. But I think he is getting addicted to running. He has lost 55 lbs since starting basic. He feels great.
just got back last night from meridean miss. it was great im starting to bowl really good lol thats about all they have there besides the liberty hall. well hope everyone is having a great morning. mike starts class this morning been on hold for weeks now 8 weeeks and counting now.
does anyone else have an (AZ) in miss.
I have a (LS) in Mississippi. We talk everyday. I think I talk to him more now than I did when he was home. Sometimes 2 times. If I am lucky. He is such a great son and brother. He still has a eye on his 14 year old sister and texts her all the time. Only when he is able. He had watch all week-end so did not talk as much. He is meeting lots of nice people! Had his first inspection on Friday and did not get one hit. I am not sure what that means but I think it is good. I think he is able to wear his civillian clothing starting this week-end. I am sure he will be watching football wearing his Ohio State gear Sat. Still waiting on orders, he said maybe in the next few weeks he will get them. He is really hopes he will get sea duty. Austraila is his first pick. Maybe I will get to spend Spring break in Austraila. Well maybe Summer will have to save up for that one!!!! LOL
welcome so what is your sons job? im the nosey one here as you can probably tell. My hubby is an airmen apprentice so hes been there 3 weeks and just started school yesterday. Hooyaah finally getting closer to station. we have three small kids ready for daddy to be home again.

HiI all... it's been a while since i was on so most of you don't know me. My son graduated book camp 8-13-10 and is gettnig ready to leave Meridian. I need to drive up there and pick him up. Can anyone tell me the physical address of the entrance gate? Or directions from Meridian?
I can't wait to see him... they are sending him to Pearl Harbor next so it will be a while before I get to see him again after his liberty. :-(
ok if you have a GPS its easiest.
255 Rosenbaum Ave meridian mississippi
it gets me there all the time if you are up there this weekend i will be there to the hotel up there is very very nice 35.00 a night and well worth it. if you need anything else text me or call me at 9854155684
hope that helps you kim
j
im there every weekend.
the hotel is on base. if you go to the first stop sign take a left go to the end and you can not miss it. your son might have to be there to help you get a room butit is safe, clean and worth the price you will also be close to your son.
j
hey the beds are super comfy very clean rooms cable big tvs and well worth your money. it is on base go into the guard house go to the 1st stop sign turn left go to the end, you cant miss it. i saw your son this weekend he is too funny. really enjoyed takling to him.
well i gotta head back up to mississippi in a few hours to bring hubby home so i will be back on here later,
j
what day will you be going up there?
i will be up there friday afterneen butim bringing hubby home til saturday night
yes i understand my hubby gets tired of hearing from me i know he does. although i didnt get alot of time with your son he was really really funny. you should ask him how bad they really mess with new guys on campus. its bad. what day this week are you going to arive at the base. i will only be up there for a few hours on friday. so i hope i get to meet you while im there.
no they are not mean not like bc. i promise. they pick on them my hubby told one of the new guys to go get his twin size mattress bring it to the quarter deck and get them to stensil his name. which was a joke he told him not to before he did it i promise. it really is easy for the guys they just hate being there.
no you dont need reservations i never get any and they are never full. i just thought you said you made them. well im going to take a nap be back later.
Still, I don't see why they have to intimidate them. Isn't it enough that they are giving everything as it is never mind being picked on. They have so much else to worry about and learn.
i dont know. i can almost promise your sailor will do it to the next guys or down the road in there time at the school. my husband has been there for 5 weeks i think and still has another 5 to go so i guess it gives him entertainment. they really are not mean and make sure not to get others in trouble they do give them good pointers on their stay there. dont worry mine will be nice what is your sailors name. i promise he wont be teased by henderson.
j
i promise your sailor is not going to be aggervated, they told my hubby that he would have to run 6 miles a day, plus workouts at the gym also. not true and all kinds of other stuff. im up there every weekend. most of the guys are really really nice and go out of their way to help you. it really is an ok kinda place.
j
i'm on base now.... couple thing to keep in mind if you are coming on base....
make sure you have your vehicle registration...
proof of insurance
photo ID.
I had issue with the registration. in texas we have a registration sticker we put on our windshield. They would not except that and i had to have my paperwork faxed to me this morning. The gave my car a temp pass last night but i had to get it handled first thing this morning.
another thing to keep in mind:
if your on base sponsor has class or duty you will not have on and off base privileges. I'm stuck on base now with no place to go. There are few places a civilian can eat on base. I will be eating at the bowling alley today.
The rooms do have Cable TV and wifi. this is not the Hilton but a good value for the money. The rooms are old and in need of updating. It reminds me of a nursing home. Dark bedding and furniture. Industrial flooring and tiles. Pay $45. and you get the suite which has a living area and small kitchen with refrig. 4 top burner, sm. microwave and kitchen sink. If you are staying a few days bring some food, bottled water and anything else you may want to drink. There is a Keurig coffee maker which only makes one cup a coffee at a time. I'm not a coffee drinker so no a prob for me but if you are you will have a choice of two hot teas, 2 decaf coffee's and 2 reg. coffee's.
House keeping does come around each day.
All and all i'm happy to be here since my son will be leaving tomorrow for Home (liberty) before he heads to his next duty station. He graduates Friday morning and we will be on the road as soon as allowed.
oh yeah..... everyone on base has been extremely nice. Even security. the hotel guest service person scored me an extra bottle of water and some Advil this morning. The security people have been very kind to me as I had to check in my weapon upon coming on base ( i'm have a conceal and carry license).
I met my sons CO and got to go see where he lives and saw all the ladies and young men hanging out in front of their barracks having fun and conversing.
I did not see any signs of hazing or picking on. Everyone seemed to be respectful of each other. If there is a little hazing going on upon arrival i'm sure it's all in good spirits.
My son was so happy to be hear after BC. Said it was nice to be called Shipmate as apposed to some of the other names he had been called in BC. He is ready to leave but that is expected. He is ready to have some liberty and head to his next location.
Can you tell i'm bored and have nothing to do today..... think i will go find the bowling alley. the security officer said they have a good salad.
hey kim you can also call dominoes or papa johns they deliver. im glad they were nice to you. they all have fun all the time. mine is just so ready to be out of there, been there over 5 weeks and has 6 more sections to go through in school before he is through.
ok well im not staying at the hotel but while i am up there to pick hubby up i would love to meet you. if that is ok with you i live close to gonzalas LA. so i am only 3 and a half hours away. buti will be staying saturday night a nd most of the day sunday.
j
hope everything works out a little better. the navy might straighten it up for everyone you never know. well on the brighter side at least yalls sailors are almost done. cant wait for our g day.
j
he is an AZ airmen apprentice. the problem with mike is that mikes teacher walks in tells them to read the material then comes back 2 hours later. they are so behind. they just got to modual 4 and they should be on like 6 or 7 already. so sad that it feels like he will never finish.
j
jhenderson: My son went to school in Meridian also but was in YN school. He got behind in his modules (got stuck on the hard long one) and thought he would be there forever too. But once he got through with his really long module, things moved much quicker for him and he did get out. Yah! He had his graduation a week later, and then was in "hold' for about 3 more weeks before allowed to leave the base. He didn't know until about 2 days before when he could leave base. Was hard because his brother was driving up from Miami FL to get him...and had to give his work notice too. Thankfully, it all worked out and I'm sure it will for you all too.
I went to graduation this morning. I was the only Civilian there. It was fun... All the Sailors were soooo nice to me.
We did find out that my son is on the outdoc list for Monday so it looks like the Navy Gateway hotel is home for me till Monday... I'm not leaving without my son ;-)
We also have a planned vacation with our sons. I've been sweeting it out. We are taking our kids to Disney leaving on Thursday. I will barely make it home before turning around and leaving again. I was so happy to find out my sons name was on that outdoc list today. He actually finished school last Wednesday but they then have to take a 2 day financial class. If they are heading overseas they have other screenings they must go thru before they can leave.
I asked my son about the hazing issue.... this is FUNNY! he said the only hazing he encountered was.... (let me set the picture, there are a bunch of stray cats on base and there is one black cat that hangs around their barracks). anyway, my son was told the first week that he when he passes Admiral Whiskers (yes, that is the kitty's name) that he must solute Admiral Whiskers.
Not sure who was asking about Hazing but that seems pretty harmless to me.
hesmyrock: Not sure if they get mail on the weekend....he may not get it until Monday. BUT....I guess you will know if he CALLS you on the phone this weekend. :-) It probably was received on the base today, but goes through all kinds of sorting and he may not have been notified yet. When I sent my son's priority, I told him to go looking for it! He got it in either 2 or 3 days...can't remember.
