Kim- you are very welcome...have you heard from your son while he is at bc? How is he doing? How are you doing?
  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

maussie- thank you so much....you don't know what a life line you were to me. I am so thrilled to hear that your daughter is doing well and enjoys being there. The first person we told about Jonathan going there was all negative and blah, blah, blah. UGH. So, now, I am just thankful and excited knowing someone actually there and it's beautiful and going well. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

My son called last night for the first time since he left a couple weeks ago for Meridian. He seemed satisified with conditions and school. He won't be able to come home to VA until end of January when school is over before he gets info on where he will go then. I can't wait till then. Miss him a lot, but he is going great.
  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

Yay, shawnmom...glad you got a call. Great way to start the week. Glad to hear he is doing well there.
  • Kim of Virginia

cheryllynn-proud mom. thank you, Yes, I received a letter 2 days in a row, Monday and Tuesday, today was the gas chamber day. He asked us to continue to pray for him because he still has the gas chamber and battle station to go through. He passed all of his physical fitness, firing (he received a ribbon for marksmanship) and his inspections. I am so proud of him. It is a wonderful week and I am counting down 13 days to go and praying that mother nature is on our side for the flight there. Not to concerned about the flight home, because my baby will be with me.

  • joy4m

my husband got there on the 7th also and he wanted to TRY to come home for the holidays but it would have cut him short for the end of January... I can't wait to see him again!!!
  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

Hi everyone.  My son graduates this AM from Meridian.  hooyah!!  No word yet as to when he can leave to come home.  Once he gets here I can ask him all kinds of questions for you all....lol.

  • maussie64

My daughter graduated and they sent her home the same day. They let her know the day before and made her clear quarters before the grad ceremony.

  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

cheryllynn-you are so lucky he has graduated.  Does that mean he will be home for an extended time over the holidays?  Or will he go straight to the fleet then home for the holidays.  My sailor will be there a few more weeks I think.

  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

Cheryllyn~ Diego Garcia?!  Wow, that it interesting!  How long will he be there?  Will you be able to visit?  We don't know yet where my sailor will be stationed.  He still has sub school in Groton to get through before he goes to the fleet.

  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

Friday I was so bummed thinking that he would have to stay on base a few more days after his graduation.  Even cried on the phone with hubby.  Friday night my son Kevin and his wife came up for the weekend.  But after greeting them with hugs I heard someone coming up the stairs. ( we live on the 2nd floor)  I just stopped stairing at the hallway and then there he was.  I burst into tears ran to him and just hugged the kid to death, sobbing.  Kevin had picked him up at the airport.  They had all this planned the day before.  Even my 15 year old who lives here knew the night before.   He is here until the 27th.

Diego Garcia is in the middle  of the Indian Ocean. About 400 miles south of the tip of India.   He will be there a year and you cannot visit there.  He will have internet.

  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

I am so happy for you Chryllyn!  I am sad because my sailor told me that he won't be home for Christmas because of his A school, then he goes to Groton for sub school.  I hope to have a nice surprise like you did though!

I am trying to stay positive, but it is hard.  I think I am in denial that he won't be home because I cannot bring myself to mail him a package for Christmas.  I need to get on that though so he has something!

    Enjoy your time with him!

  • Kim of Virginia

My son just past Battle Station and called to let me know that he is a Navy Sailor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of him and all the Sailors that made it and the one Recruit who didn't. Please pray for the one who didn't make it that he/she will make it the next go round. My son will fly home with us 12/23 and leave here 12/27 for Meridian. Thanks so much for your support during this journey.

  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

  • Kim of Virginia

Cheryllnn-proud mom of a sailor, thank you so much, I should be packing but we are not flying until 7pm tomorrow evening. I made certain that my daughter and daughter in law were packed and ready.....................If  I don't get the opportunity to get back on line before Christmas as we are flying back home late Thursday evening, I wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!!!!! And thank you for your support during this journey...............

  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

sacred's mom ~ good luck with your journey!  Merry Christmas!

  • EDS - USS Ronald Reagan, Japan

Sailor graduate 12/22 and left the day after for A school Meridian.  I believe school doesn't start until Jan 3rd.  So he's on Liberty until then. At least we are able chat/text to keep in touch.  I miss him so.  But we'll be seeing him again shortly after school.
  • Kim of Virginia

ProudMomS, the graduation was awesome! Although we had major flight delays, we made the ceremony. Our flight was canceled coming home and we had to spend the night in Atlanta, we were blessed to have made it to the graduation and then home before Christmas. Thanks to all for your support. My son is scheduled to leave Monday for A school in Meridian, but it is anticipated that we will get 6 inches of snow between tomorrow and Monday........... So we will see!

EDS, my son will arrive Monday evening, so hopefully, he and my son already know each other as my son graduated 12/22 from division 25. I am so glad that they are allowed to take their cell phones.

  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

Sacred'smom~It is good to hear the graduation went well. Sorry to hear about the delays. With the bad weather, travelling can be a pain! We had to federal express my son's cell phone and lap top. It was not cheap. I am a little disappointed because Meridian has very spotty cell service, and the living accomodations do not have internet. My son and I text mostly because the cell reception is horrible when we talk by phone. It is irritating to have to repeat things 10 times and keep saying "what, what, are you there?"

Good luck with everything! Merry Christmas!
  • April Lewis

I am enjoying every minute of my son being home. He has matured so much and I am so proud of him. We are taking him to Meridian on the 1st or 2nd. He is happy of his decision to go in the Navy. I'll let him know about the cell reception their and how horrible it is. Just as long as we can keep in touch. Texting will be okay, but I really love to hear his voice.

  • Kim of Virginia

ProudMomS, thanks a  million. Traveling was hectic, but we had him with us, so all was good. Because of  the blizzard here yesterday, my son called his CO yesterday and was relieved to know that he was much different than the RDCs at boot camp. He was told that he could bring his civies, cell phone and lap top. Thanks for the warning about the spotty cell reception and the non accommodations for computers, my son's cell acts like a hot spot where by he can connect 2 computers to the internet via his phone.

On my way to take him to airport for his flight. Have a wonderful day,

    Kim

  • EDS - USS Ronald Reagan, Japan

Sacred'smom, sorry finally finding some time to get online. Maybe they do know each other.  My son, R, has mentioned that he has seen familiar faces.  We left for home, CA, on Sunday and I am glad I am away from all the cold/snow.  Not a fan.  Must be the island blood. :)

Be safe and Best Wishes for the New Year!

  • Kim of Virginia

Hello everyone, J made it to Meridian last night without incidence. He called this morning and getting settled into his room. He does have 2 other room mates but they are out on liberty. He is working on setting his phone up as a hot spot so he can use his computer.J did say that he traveled his last leg of his flight last night with 6 others going to Meridian and they all caught a van to the base.

EDS (Ship 12 Div 029) Hopefully J and your son will know each other and meet.

Happy holidays everyone and I will keep you posted.

  • aletheap

My son is checking into Meridian today for A school as a logistics specialist. I was glad to run into another mom at the airport whose son was returning there today. Thank ProudMomS for sharing your time with me.
  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

Aletheap, It was nice to see another mom at the airport!  Our conversation calmed me.  It was sad to say goodbye, especially since I do not know when we will see my sailor again.  He texted me from Atlanta to let me know there were 5 other sailors going to Meridian on thier plane.

I hope all went well with your son's check in.  I am sure is was a little overwelming for him.  But after boot camp, they seem to have confidence.

     Happy New Year everyone!

  • mae_gf

hello everyone happy new year!! btw im new here..just want to know how long is the a school for LS?thank you so much in advance
  • aletheap

Hi Mae.  Happy New Year!   According to my son, the school for LS is 6 weeks.

  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

Aletheap-I hope all is well with your son.  Is he settled in yet?  Also...How is mom doing?
  • aletheap

He is doing well - classes don't start until the 11th, so he is getting to know his way around and trying to stay busy.  Mom is doing okay - it is so nice to be able to talk to him pretty much when I want to instead of wondering how he is.  We are both glad that boot camp is behind us!

  • battlebuddy

My son will be heading there after graduation 2/11/11. He is a SH Ship Serviceman, it says 4 weeks on his paperwork. :-)
  • ProudMomS of a SAILOR! 10/29/10

Aletheap, I am happy to hear he is doing well.  My son graduated this morning from Meridian.  According to him, there was not much to the ceremony.  I still wish I could have been there though.  He leaves tomorrow for sub school.  At least that is within driving distance to Maryland!

  • E.J.'s Mom

At the airport as we speak, waiting for my son to fly off to Meridian. He's sleep, I just found out they don't get much of that in boot camp. He's especially excited to be done with boot camp.
  • becki(uss stockdale)

  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

My son was in Meridian for 8 weeks, graduated in Dec....says there is NOTHING to do in Meridian.  Sorry.  Just a small town out in the middle of no where.  Not much on base...pizza and bowling.
  • Kim of Virginia

My son graduated this morning and on his way home before reporting for duty in FL. He too said there wasn't much to do in Meridian.
  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

Popeyesmom, I have talked with you on 2/4/11 group before!! WOW, it's funny b/c your son is in route to Meridian with my son...they r buddies! My family actually got to meet some of the boys of #61 Sunday at the movies and I really liked your son!! they were  ALL so polite and we went around the group they told their names and where they were going...our son pointed out that 2 of them were going to Meridian with him..then I saw you r pic and realized it was your son....I was beginning to wonder if this group had any active members....our boys should be in the air as we speak, hopefully the will be roommates at A-school.....
  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

Hello Ladies.  This group has a quick turn over as school lasts from 6 - 8 weeks and then they move on.  My son was in Meridian from Oct -Dec.

  • BigGaMoma(Angie)

cheryllynn, where is your son stationed at now? Is he LS? How did he like it there? What is the Graduation like?
  • cheryllynn-proud mom of a sailor

Angela - no my son is a PS.  He said it was ok there just nothing to do.   We did not go to graduation.  It is short and sweet...nothing major.  I don't think there were any parents, etc. at his.  He is now stationed at Diego Garcia.

Candy...congrats to you and your son.

  • tls

My son will be heading to Meridian this week from GL. I can't wait and I know he is excited about the warmer weather there too. :)  He will be an SH. Ship Servicemen. He will be there 4-6 weeks we think then home for about 10 days. Looking forward to getting to know the other moms of Sailors there in Meridian.

  • mdubtxmom(Ship 09 Div 069)

Greetings Meridian Moms!  My son is on his way to Meridian in the morning.  He is a PS.  Looking forward to getting to know other Meridian Moms.   Candy congrats on your son.  What is his Rate?  Is he a PS?  Cheryilynn, does your son like Diego Garcia?  I have heard that is in the middle of no where.
  • battlebuddy

Just found out my son will be there tomorrow...leaving GL about 1 am with Mdubtxmom's son. :) They were in the same Div. too. I am glad they will be traveling together.
  • mdubtxmom(Ship 09 Div 069)

Me too!  It was great to see the way Cody reacted when he ran into one of his shipmates in the mall.  They really developed a bond.
