Sailors attending A School in Meridian, Mississippi

My son has been there since 7/13 and he is a little over half way finished. He came home this weekend for 3 days on leave. If you are driving be sure you have current drivers license, current insurance card and your current tag receipt. They really do check that out! And....when you get to the gate, you will have to call your son and let him know you are there because he has to walk down to the gate to sign you in so you can go sign him out in the office! lol complicated! Also, the same person that signs him out has to sign him back in. Just a little info! BUT, things are much different and better in A school!!! Are you going to PIR? I hope you do!!!! It was so amazing...I can't even describe it! It's something you do not want to miss, for sure!!!!. We live in Alabama and we drove.....12 hours!!!!

Its my husband so even with my military ID he has to meet me? I am FORSURE going to PIR, leaving in the morning! Driving from Michigan

My son's PIR is 8/19 then he goes to A school in Meridian. I hope get some time that weekend to visit. Wondering what life there will be like? What airport do you fly into? What is the name of the base? Help!

Pmbell Life there is VERY hot  but my boyfriend has enjoyed it. Lots more freedom than BC but they still drill, have inspections, do PT & have watch. They actually have a lot of free time in the evenings & weekends. They can't use their phones during the day but can call at night. Don't know where u live but there is a small airport in Meridian that is served by ASA out of Atlanta. Jackson, MS is a bigger airport but about an hour away (not sure who flys in there). Base is NAS Meridian. To all going to PIR - ENJOY! It is awesome!!!!!

Also Pmbell - my sailor flew out first thing Sat. morning after PIR. I got to go to O'Hare to be with him when he left. When he flies out depends a lot on airlines & ticket availability but seems like most of those Meridian bound fly out pretty quickly cause they fly them thru Atlanta or Dallas.

And to anyone driving on base - strictly obey the speed limit, don't talk on your cell phone & whatever they want to see at the gate, let them see (i.e. look in trunk, under your hood etc.) Also it takes about 15 minutes for your sailor to walk down from the dorms to the gate. Just follow the signs in Meridian to the Base.

Pmbell my son seems to enjoy it too. Like fa4airtran said they do have ALOT more freedom than bc. My son calls or texts at night...however, he has started going to classes at night this week in order to try and finish earlier. You may not be able to visit him the first weekend after he arrives but should be able to the next wkend. They do phase up quickly.

My husband leaves in the morning for airport..5am, but his flight isn't till 330 so I get to sit at the airport with him till he leaves, also giving him his phone

Zachary started A School on 7-11 and he will be done and flying to Groton Ct next Friday .  I am not sure when I will be able to visit him and I can't wait.  He will be only an hour away!!!!!!

Zacharys mother....next Friday meaning the 19th? My son should be finishing up pretty soon too.

And I am SO happy for him being so close to you so you can see him! Those sons are just very special, aren't they? I know mine is and I miss him! lol

I am new to this group. My son arrived last night in Meridian.  He says his school does not start for a week. 

He is gonna like it KSam....lots better than bc. lol my son didn't start until about a week after graduation. Good thing was....he got to stay a little longer in GL after PIR and we got to spend more time with him. He is about 3 hours from us now so it's not hard to go see him. Good Luck to your son!

I received a call from my son last Saturday. He has been at Meridian a week now, says mostly doing indoc stuff. He started school this week. He says it's hot and there are lots of spiders there - some poisionous where the base is... he says the best part is getting his stuff back like his cell and having more freedom. This Sunday is his birthday... he said he was going to call me and give me his address, but has not yet, so his care box won't be in time for his birthday, but, oh well. Hope everyone's doing ok!

Mostel,  My son Zachary just completed A School and coming home to CT to attend sub school in Groton CT.  He spent his 21 birthday in Mississippi and I tried to send him an ice cream cake packed with dry ice.  The ice was so heavy it flatten the cake LOL  If you want to give you the address I am sure I have it written down somewhere so you will have it today.  Please let you know and best wishes to your son.  Nancy

Hi Mostele, When I went to click on your friend request I lost what your wrote.  I am thinking if you son is is A School for Logistics Training there is one mail room but I am not completely sure.  I do know I called the mail room when I sent his birthday cake and they where very nice and helpful.  You can google the Navy Training Center on Fletcher Rd in Meridian Mississippi and call to ask if they know your son so you can verify and get his address.  I hope that helps you.  Let me know.  Nancy

My husband is also down there, he said they don't knw when the AZ program will start. Kinda bummed. I have an address mostele its a Fletcher rd address but im sure your sailor is in a different ste then mine so may not help much. I know my hubby wanted a nice blanket sent to him. He said they keep the rooms really

Zacharys mom...my son finished all of his modules and graduation will be next Wednesday for him. Do they get to leave that day or how does that work? Heard of a Sailor that finished school last week but because he had been bitten by a spider 2 months ago, he was put on medical hold for a year.

Oh I did not hear about the sailor who got bit by a spider dear God.  Zachary graduates today and he told me he is flying out today.  I am still not sure he has been confirmed but that is what he told me last night.

My son's birthday is tomorrow - hope I hear from him!

My son made it to Meridian on 8/19. He says he starts school on 8/31. It has been awesome being able to talk to him daily! He will be there for 5 weeks. Then he's coming home for leave. I can't wait!

well is officialy im not virginian any more,not for the next 3 years i will be in meridian ms and the different is so big is so boring down here specially if you don't like country music well i guess this's part of be a navy wife the only matters is my support for my hubby,now need be worry about my kid and teh allergies

i saw alot of you are worry about your kids well let me know if i can help in anything i will more than glad of do it,i live out side of the base but go there every day nothing to do i done with the walking at the small mall so now is time to walk around the base cause i done with the bonita lake area so boring here

hi navywife81 well i glad u can come and see your hubby it will a great time i sure,well my family and i stay in la quinta when we hav teh orders adn before my hubby when to the school in pensacola we spend a week there and was great good service,breadfast,pool,internet  it was good still the city have hotel more cheap like sleep inn or a copy of sleep inn and is like 22 dollar for nigth but is kind weird any way i still kinda new here but i star meet the city more just driving around so i can know the strees is kind of confuse some time but i guess i need learn no matter what hahaha but im glad let me know if i can do something for you.if you want tell your hubby about my he working at the airfield next to the pilot training center.hope hear from u soon and hope have safe trip.

congratulation in your son graduation lucyloves it is so good i when to my husband graduation and was amaizing i feel so proud of him,i glad about your son and i really hope he can get home so he can spend some time with the family here is boring and is not much place to go the stores are different to so is good when you go back to your original city feel so good.well hope every thing be good and u can enjoy it your son...

lucyloves also im not sure what type of school is your son but when my husband graduate he left pensacola after the graduation cause it was to be at the base the day after any way we was like 3 hours from pensacola to meridian.

not really is on the city the base is on the middle of no where and is nothing around the base at all is like 20 to 30 min from la quinta to the base.i think the microhotel is like 10 away from the base but still will look far cause everything here is gree zoneif you know what i mean country country hahaha 

@Navywife81 I've been to Meridian two times to see my fiance & The Drury Inn seems to be the nicest & newest in Meridian. They have a nice hot breakfast in the morning that is free and also a cocktail hour with snacks in the evening that is also free. They are dog friendly so my pooch enjoyed her first hotel stay. Don't know where you are from but Drury Inns are in the Midwest & South and are always clean & comfortable  up-to-date.

He grads Friday!!! Since he is in the reserves will be home soon!

Fa4airtran....my son is reservist, also! He hopes to be on the list to leave tomorrow but won't know until today sometime! He graduated Wednesday. I am ready to see him!!!! We only live about 3 hours away. He did get a 3 day leave about 3 weeks ago and came home...he has his car there. Congrats to your fiancee!

Navywife we went and picked my son up on Friday afternoon avout the 2nd wkend he was there. He came home since we aren't that far. We went the night before to Philadelphia,MS and stayed at the casino. It only about 45 minutes from Meridian. Meridian has a mall and quite a few other stores in the area for shopping. Several nice places to eat. The base is out in the middle of nowhere....lol....and it takes about 20 minutes to get there. Hope you have a great time and safe travels to you!!! My son is coming home soon.....tomorrow, I hope!

I'm driving from michigan...its a looooong drive lol we have a Drury inn here as well so maybe I will check into that. Thank you. This will prob be the only chance I get to go down there so I want to make it a nice visit

That is a long drive! We drove from AL to IL for PIR....12 long hours!!!!! lol ...but worth it!!!!!!!!

Well the flights r sooo expensive its about 14 hrs I will do it in 2 days since I am driving alone

@Lucyloves Congrats to your son! Hopefully they will send them home soon cause they don't like the reservists hanging around collecting more salary.

@Navywife81 There is also a place on base that you can stay at since you are married. It is super cheap - I didn't see the inside but outside looks new. Ask your man - I think it is called CBQ (something Base Quarters??) But he might want to get off base for awhile so again I would suggest the Drury. I

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! Grad tom but can't be processed out till Tues. or Wed.. (when I will be gone flying) Had our weekend all planned out. Can I vent? Excellence is expected of the sailors but it is OK for the processing dept.. to mess up on the orders????

Drudy is a good hotel but if you want a good hotel and more cheap than drudy la quinta es better,is my own opinion i been there all the time and is nice and clean and pets are welcome too any way i hope you enjoy it your time here with your hubby,well im kind of happy here now,my son just enjoy on the boy scouts on he's school and he is so happy about that...

 

Yes he can have his phone and computer. The live in mods with I thi k 3 bedrooms and a central living area with couch and tv. Each bedroom has 3 beds a bathroom and a fridge and micro. My husband asked me to send him a pair of shorts and some shirts and reg boxers. But he won't really get to wear them until he gets phased up meaning more privliages. Tney seem to phase quickly there. Also my husband asked me to send him a warm blanket, like a thick fleece one, I guess the rooms are cold. As far as the truck he won't be able to use it right away. My husband usually just shares a cab with people to go into town

My son has PIR 10/7/11 so then he will be heading to Meridan, MS the next day.  @ navywife81, did you get to go to the airport at Great Lakes or was he sent by a charter jet?  I am just hoping to spend the most time with our son as possible and hoping his flight leaves later in the day so that we have time at the airport but I guess we will just have to wait & see.  Also, did your husband start A school right after he arived or did he have to wait a few weeks?

 

My son is in Meridan his PIR was 9/9/11 they left GL at 12.45am Saturday 9/10/11 his flight left O'Hare at 5:45 am.  We did meet him there at 2am.  He is hoping to start school next only if there are 25 ppl (I think thats the number).  When I talked with him yesterday they only had 13.  His schooling is AZ.  Hope this helps.

Gosh I hope he schools up before Oct.  He said he should be done with school about the end of Nov.
