    Hey.....Where did everyone go?

Today my son will graduate.....He was suppose to find out yesterday if he got to leave today or not.  Well according to him Pensacola decided to change the outdocking period from 2 days to 3 days, so his transfer paperwork won't be done until today.  He said there's always a chance that maybe he will get home Saturday.  Not the same as him being here for Thanksgiving but we will take it and he will eat leftovers.

@ Christa - I hope you & your husband have a great time with your son on Thanksgiving.

@Proudflamom - Hows your son doing since arriving in Meridan.

@sbarber -I'm sure you have moved on now to a new group for your son's C school.  Has he classed up yet?

@Colby's proudmom  - How is your son doing?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Here's hoping our sailor's have a great dinner in Meridan!

I need to vent!  My son graduated last Thursday and has orders to go to VA dated 11/23 (today) but he has been told they do not know when he will get to leave.  So there he sits doing nothing.  I am very frustrated not know when he will get to leave, it seems since he has a job in VA that they would have this all worked out already.  I so hoping to get to see him for Thanksgiving.

Thanks for a place to rant..

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!   :)

  • Denise - browns57

@ Brentsmom07div301- I feel you.  My son graduated today his orders are to San Diego  He did get the word today that he would be coming home on Saturday we have ho idea when,,, I told him not to worry about I will be ther when he finds out.    We had also hoped to have him for Thanksgiving since he will miss Christmas but I guess this is the first of many holidays he will miss.

  • Brentsmom

Thank you browns57 I hope your son gets home Saturday safe and sound.

SO I have to eat crow....My son deceided to not to tell us that he got to come today.  He gets to stay home for about a week and a half, he has to be in VA by Dec 11.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

  • sbarber

browns57: Hello, hope you guys are having a great day, I have joined the Groton group but I check all my others too :-) He actually has classed up and is enjoying it there, he went to Thanksgiving dinner with a loal family that adopted him :-) he will be coming home for Christmas I am so glad... and then he will graduated from Sub school the end of Jan. So busy, busy. Enjoy your time with your son.

@Christa: Did you guys have a great time in MS? I'm guessing yes :-)

Brentsmom07div301: Wasn't that a great surprise. I watch that show Coming Home and I swear if my son did that it would give me heart failure. Enjoy your Sailor.

  • Denise - browns57

All is great here, my son left Meridian this morning his plane will land in Columbus in less than 2 hours. He will be here until the 6th and its off to San Diego.  I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

  • Christa (Proud Navy Mom)

Hi, everyone.  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We had a great time with our son over Thanksgiving.  We actually picked him up and drove to New Orleans. It was so nice to spend some time with him.  It felt like I had not seen him in years!  :-)

My son received his verbal orders for Lemoore.  He is set to graduate from Meridian next Friday.  I know that he will be coming home for a short period afterwards but I'm not sure when that will be or when he will have to report to Lemoore.  Guess it will depend on when he receives his written orders.  Whenever it is and however long it is, I'll take it!!

  • Chris's MOM

    Hello

My Son will arrive in Meridian on Friday for A school . hope to meet other mom's of sailors there  .

  • Denise - browns57

Welcome Chris's Mom - You son will actually arrive Saturday afternoon.  He will love it, so much different than BC.. My son had a good time while he was there, made anot of new friends.  He graduated A school and flew home last Saturday for some leave, its great to have him home.  Too bad he missed Thanksgiving & will miss Christmas.  We are having an early Christmas this weekend.  He will leave for San Diego on the 7th. Who knows when we will see him again.  Thank goodness for cell phones & skype!

@ Christa - Glad to hear you guys had a great time over Thanksgiving.  Did you bring home the blue ray player?  Where is Lemoore?

My son had to buy an additional seabag to get all his stuff home, he had two seabags, hanging clothes bag, back pack & his laptop bag.

  • Christa (Proud Navy Mom)

Welcome, Chris!  What job will your son be training for in Meridian?

browns57, I'm so happy that you have your son home for a bit.  I know that you have missed him!!  I hope you all have a wonderful celebration this weekend!!

We did not bring home the blu-ray disc player.  I asked my son about it but he said he would just going to ship it and the game system back home. LOL!  Lemoore is in California.  He recently posted on Facebook that he will be deployed soon after his arrival there.  Still trying to get some more info on that.

  • sbarber

Christa  Glad you has such a good time how was New Orleans?? LOL about the game system and blue ray...bet he's secretly hoping you forget about them ;-) Please keep us posted I bet your kinda freaking now over a quick deployment I know I would be.

browns57 I'm so glad your son is home I know you will have a wonderful time, enjoy every last minute of it. Too funny about all the bags you would think they would learn to travel a little bit lighter hahaha

I hope you each have a great day still waiting to see if we get our CHIT approved for Christmas.. more hurry up and wait but he should graduate submarine school 1/27 so kinda nervous about that. Not sure I'm deployment ready yet especially since he will be "UNDER" the sea.

  • Chris's MOM

    Hello Christa

My son will train for PS . He went to Pensacola , but reclass. for this rate . He is ready to get started . TTYL =) Chris's mom .

  • proudflamom

Can someone make a suggestion on taxi to the airport from base please. The taxi company I called wanted $160 each way!!!
  • Denise - browns57

Proudflamom - Are you talking about a taxi for you or one for your son when he leaves?  I have never when to Meridian so I would have no clue where to find a taxi.

  • Chris's MOM

My son just got to Meridian and he told me he paid $ 20 dollars for a taxi to the base . Hope this helps =)

  • Denise - browns57

Chris's Mom - Was that from the airport in Meridan or Jackson?  I know when my son arrived there from bootcamp, they flew from Chicago to Jackson and then rode a bus from Jackson to Meridan.  When my son came home for leave They went to Meridan, I didn't even know there was an airport there.  My son said its so small there wasn't any place to eat and no tv"s.  They have two flights a day.  They flew from Meridian to Atlanta and from there they flew home.

@ proudflamom - If you are planning a trip, maybe you should look into flying through Atlanta to Meridian.

  • proudflamom

He is flying home from Jackson but I can't seem to find a reasonable taxi to get him to the airport.
  • Chris's MOM

The Taxi was from Meridian airport to base . Rate is for military only . =)

  • sbarber

I would suggest that ya'll get your recruits to call or go to the ITT dept on base they can help with travel plans and I'm betting would have some suggestions on shuttles to and from the airports. My son is no longer in MS but, the ITT dept where he is now is also taking down names and getting guys to share cabs on the days the shuttles aren't running hope that helps someone out have a blessed day.

@Christa: I get to see my son finally after all thse months his CHIT got approved yesterday and he will be home from the 18th-2nd. Happy mama dance.

  • Denise - browns57

@ sbarber - That's great news! I'm so happy for you.  Enjoy every minute.  My son did RAP all last week and is trying to get everything packed up to leave tomorrow.  I've enjoyed my time with him although he was trying to see everyone. and was gone most evenings.  The last two weekends have been great with all of my children home.  Tomorrow the house will be quite again when I come home from work.  I'm saving my pennies for a trip to San Diego.  He is so ready to move on and get busy.

  • Brentsmom

My son left last night on his way to Norfolk he needs to be there Wednesday.  We had a great week and a half, it was so nice to see and hug him.  I am wishing everyone the same something during the holidays.

@browns my son is also ready to get busy, the last week in MS was hard for him just sitting and waiting.  He hates doing nothing...

Thank you all for being here even if I did interact much I enjoyed know others are in the same boat. lol

  • Denise - browns57

@Brentsmom07div301 - I believe my son will arrive early, I think he originally said that he was to report to his ship by the 10th.  He is lucky to have someone from his ship picking him up at the airport so he will not have to take a taxi.  He has said that he has talked to other Sailors on his ship.

  • Christa (Proud Navy Mom)

Wonderful news, sbarber!!!  I'm so very happy for you!!!  Enjoy all of your time with him!!!

  • Christa (Proud Navy Mom)

Brentsmom07, I'm so happy that you got to spend some time with your son!!!  I can hardly wait for mine to come home!

  • Navy Mom Ship 3, Div 047

How long is A School for logisit specialist in Meridian?

  • Denise - browns57

I had thought it was 8 weeks but then my son informed me it was more self paced.  He finished between 6 & 7 weeks, I believe.

  • Navy Mom Ship 3, Div 047

That is very neat that it is self paced. My son wants to be stationed overseas, perhaps Japan. Did you son say it is difficult to get to go overseas?

  • Mrs. David's mom

    Hello Ladies

My son arrived in Meridian Saturday and he's ready to begin A-School.  He will be training  to be a AZ.  From what I understand, school starts this week?  I look forward to hearing how it goes, but not as nervous/anxious as I've been during his boot camp.

  • Bcedab

    Hi Mrs David's Mom

A school is a lot different from boot camp, it's more relaxed and he will be asking you to send him his clothes once he receives his green dot. The green dot means he doesn't have to be in uniform all the time. He will have more liberty and a lot more fun. The school part is not that hard my son (who name is David as well) as been there since December and he will be leaving there sometime I. February. Your son is able to get acell phone now so you guys can talk everyday. So I hope this helps.
  • Mrs. David's mom

Oh yes!  Very helpful Bcedab.  I knew he would be getting liberty and we were able to give him his cell phone at the airport Saturday (so much fun driving into O'Hare! lol).  How long before they get their "green dot"?  Is that something they must earn?

I am hoping to go visit him there during Spring Break, if he's not finished with school by then.

  • Denise - browns57

Welcome Mrs. david's mom....my son is no longer at Meridian.  He was there from 10/8/11 to 11/26/11.  He is an LSSA and is assigned to a ship in San Diego.  He enjoyed his time there but is really liking San Diego.  We never made a trip there to visit, it was too close to the holidays and we were hoping for him to make it home for Thanksgiving but that didn't happen.  We are planning a trip to see him in SanDiego before they are deployed for 6 months.

  • Bcedab

    Hey David's Mom
Yes, he will have to earn his green dot, it took my son two weeks to earn his. So it shouldn't take long.
  • Mrs. David's mom

Bcedab;  Good, earning that green dot will be a good incentive for him.

browns57;  David wants to go to SD after A-School.  We are from that area and have a lot of family nearby.  We moved to Arkansas when David was in the 2nd grade but he had remained a hard core Chargers fan all along!

  • Mrs. David's mom

Well, got a call from David last night.  He is enjoying it there so far, but found out his school won't actually start for a couple of weeks.  Said they don't have enough  students for an AZ class, they're waiting for more to arrive.

Oh well, at least he has his cell phone and can call home every weekend.  During boot camp I got the "I've arrived" call, the "I'm a Sailor" call, and he called us the night before PIR.  That was it.  So no more excusses!

Doesn't feel like it's been a week since PIR!  I am feeling relieved that all thats over with, the excitment of the ceremony and the stress of traveling there.  Now I can mentally relax!

  • Beth89

My SR is in bootcamp and will be doing A school here wondering if they are able to use a laptop

  • Mrs. David's mom

    Hello Beth!

My son is fairly new to Meridian.  His PIR date was 1/27, so he's been there since the 28th. still waiting for his class to start.  I believe they are allowed to have laptops, mine has his cell phone and was thinking about getting himself a computer.

David has called a couple times and is enjoying it there so far.  Things are more relaxed there than in boot camp.  Since he waiting for school to start he's been doing odd jobs, cleaning, watches, even working the mail room, which he enjoyed.  He took a bus trip to a shopping mall which was great!  Bought himself some civilian clothes to wear when he goes off base.

So, when does your SR PIR?  It's so exciting!  When we went up there it was cold, but we couldn't have asked for better weather!

  • Beth89

My SR PIR is 3/2 I can't wait to see him. I'm glad that they can have cell phones to call home every once awhile
  • Mrs. David's mom

    Beth,

What will your SR be training for in A-School?

  • Beth89

Hello my son will be doing LS I am not sure what that all entails
  • Beth89

How much civilian clothes should my SR bring with him to MS?  He graduates this Friday and I was going to pack a bag for himn but not sure on how much if any.

    thank you

    Beth

  • Bcedab

    Hi Beth,

When my som went to MS he could did take any clothes because hehas to wear his uniform until he earns his green dot and thn he an wear his clothes. But what i did do was, i packed all his and sent them to him later. I hope this help.
  • Beth89

Thank you I thought this but I just wanted to be prepared.  I will send thing later.  Is your son still in MS?

  • Mrs. David's mom

We didn't bring anything for David to carry with him, it'd just be more to travel with.   We mailed him a box just this week.  It was about two weeks before he could go off base anyway, and he bought himself a couple things there.  We did take him his cell phone.  He called friends while we were out after graduation, but couldn't bring it back to RTC.  We met him at O'Hare Saturday morning and gave it to him to take to MS.

PIR was so exciting!!!  You probably just got your "I'm a Sailor" call this week?  Did he sound tired?  David did.  Almost couldn't recognize his voice.

David's class at A-School just started this week, so, eight more weeks and he gets to come home for 14 days!

Have a safe trip to Great Lakes.  Are you driving?  Watch out for toll roads!  I'm not use to them, and got in an IPASS lane and missed paying my 60 cent toll.  I was able to go on line and pay the toll, but it cost $3.80.  Oh well, it's better than the $60 fine my friend got when she missed a toll booth.

  • Beth89

Thanks no sailor call yet they did not go through BS yet can not wait for a call.  I have not spoke to him in 8 weeks other then the I am here call.  When his DIV got to call he had watch bummer.  What is your son's job in MS?  We are driving and will make sure to watch those tolls

  • Bcedab

Yes he just tested out but can't leave until next opening period which is the middle of March. So he'll be there a little while longer.

Your son will have alot of fun though, they get to leave the base and they have a lot of activities there, like a basketball team (if your son likes basket), bowling and alot of other things to do, so don't look for alot of phone calls home.
