Trying to get married while your sailor is in "A" School? It's not easy, but it's possible!

I've heard of so many people trying to do this and I just recently went through it myself. If you need any questions answered or advice on how to get hitched before he gets his orders and you can go with him, just ask on here!

My boyfriend and I are looking at getting married before he is out of A-school and that is in Nov sometime and I was just wondering if you knew how long it takes to get everything in order to get married to a sailor. Weeks? Months? Does my bf have to get all the needed paperwork?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you! I was away on vacation for a few days.

Is your boyfriend in A School right now or in boot camp or about to be in boot camp? If he is in A School a lot depends on which phase he is in. If he is in phase I and is not allowed to allowed to leave base he'll have to get a chit to request to get off of the base on the weekend. That could take a while to be approved, so if you can, I recommend waiting until phase II which is usually when he's allowed to be off base during the day. My husband and I had to get married while he was still in phase I because we wanted to make sure that everything was set before he got his orders so that I could go with him.

After you get off base and get married by, I'm assuming, the JOP, you'll need to take all your paperwork back to the JAG office on base and they will give you your military ID. You'll probably need to go to a different office on base to get put on Tricare, but that's something I would try and get done ASAP as well. Once all of that is done - you should be good to go! Just start changing your name at your closest social security office, banks, DMV, etc.

If I were you I'd allow a few weeks to get everything done - mainly because the chit can be the thing that takes the longest. Once your sailor has time to get off the base it shouldn't take too long to get to the JOP and get your license and certificate. You won't need to bring any paperwork with you to the JOP as long as your sailor is OK to get off base and go to the JOP with you.

Oh and usually there is a three-day waiting period between the time you get the marriage license and are allowed to actually get married. However, they waive that for military personnel, so no worries. You can get the license, go get married, and then come back to get your marriage certificate within an hour, usually!

you need to have your sailor talk to his class sponser right away and also get in touch with the chaplin. you want to get all of this done and be married a good two weeks before he gets his orders. look up which county you will be getting married in and find out what their rules are. it is very important to stay on top of this and move fast. me and my fiance waited to long to figure all this out and now its to late. his sponser will be able to give him all the info or direct him to someone who can help. good luck

What A-school is your boyfriend going to? Depending on how long the A-school is, his higher up may not allow it. But if is it long enough....you can have him talk to his higher ups and he can put in a REQUEST CHIT. Saying he wants to get married. You would have to go to the local court house and get a marriage licence, and either have a Justice of the Peace marry you all or a Chaplin on the base. You then would have to get a few copies of your Marriage Certificate. He then would take to PSD (Personnel Support Detachment)  and have him update his PAGE TWO and get you your ID. If you get married to him in A-school, you have to do it before he gets his orders. If you do not marry him before he gets his orders he could get "Unaccompanied Orders" Over seas....depending on his Rate (his job.) and he would not be able to bring you. But on the plus side....even if he gets over seas orders, he can still marry you, and put you on his PAGE TWO, you would still have his benefits and be taken care of, while he is over seas. If you can tell me his job I can maybe give you more clairety? My husband I married him after A-school, I got lucky since he qualified for state side program. So I married him after he got his orders. If your husband does well on his tests in A-school he can pick his orders. He does get two weeks leave to come home and he can always marry you then. If you do that do the court house marriage.....you can get your marriage certificate and what not done all in one day. Then have him take you to the closest base with a PSD and have him get you an military ID and update his page two....you don't have to go to a Navy base to do this anyone is fine. We went to an Army/Airforce base to have my ID done. Send me a friend request and you can feel free to ask me anything you want. I was in the same position less than 7 months ago. I got lucky that our wedding date fell on his leave.
