My son was in the 900 division back in 2012. He said he was "voluntold" lol. He's tall - 6'4" and he got picked to be a "body snatcher" because of his size. His job was to walk around at PIR and "catch" any sailor that looks like they might pass out while in formation. It is extra work - they will work the 2 PIR's previous to theirs (although right now there aren't any live PIR's so I'm not sure what's happening). When they were livestreaming the PIR's you might have had a chance to see them at the previous PIR's, but again, that's not happening right now.
The Division Duties are explained up above so there are different things they could be doing.
The pros are it gives them something else to do!
The cons are it gives them something else to do!
I believe my son missed one of his division phone calls home because he was "practicing" with another PIR but they allowed him a call separate from his group. It all worked out!
