Hi. I am new to this site and to being a Navy mom my. My SR, Ship 02, Div 941, has not called. Anyone else have SR Un this div? My husband has read other posts that they may be calling today..... we are staying home by the phone!!??!!
Hi Laura and welcome to the family :) I think it depends on their ship date. Our Sailor just graduated from a 900 division on 7/6 and if I remember correctly He was able to call on the third or fourth Sunday after he had shipped out to BC. But I don't know if it's a guaranteed thing. It's my first time being a navy mama to and the one thing I learned was to always stay close to my cell. I hope you guys get a call today, it's so wonderful to hear from your SR when they are able to call. Best wishes to you.
Hi Laura, I have done a little research on what the 942 division is doing for training and I am expecting to hear from him possibly today or next Sunday. I think Tabitha is right in saying about the 3rd Sunday. This is my second son to go through bootcamp and I remember him calling home about this same time! Yes, stay by the phone! =D
Yes Laura this is true. It doesn't get easier, we just get better at it with time. Right now our sailor is in A school, when we went to see him for graduation we took his phone and a few other things. So now I'm not so much waiting. I'm just trying to learn how to live as a parent with a grown child, and not text him every day, all day. Lol! Guess I'll figure that one out with time to. :)
Where is his A school at? My son's is suppose to Conneticut.
Was your son able to keep his phone? It will be nice to know that we can call/text when time allows. I could be that mom who texts all the time! Lol. I don't. I understand what you mean about trying to remember he is grown. My son turns 18 this Tuesday... he's still my little boy! Lol.
Is there anything else we can take to him, that he will be able to keep, at graduation??

Our son stayed in Chicago for A school. Yes they can have their phones in A school. I took our sons favorite clothing pieces, his tennis shoes, under clothes because he hated, HATED the ones the navy gives them lol I also took some of his favorite snacks, and his phone and charger. Our son is 19 but will be 20 in September he had never been away from home or even lived on his own up until this. I'm definitely the mom that would text or call any of our children just to check in on them. Now I'm really trying to refrain. Lol! It's really hard, but I'm managing. Lol!
Same with our son, never have been away from home. Hope your son is doing well!
We got our call!!!! He already sounds more grown/more confident. I am thankful he sounds good!!!
So so, great and happy to hear that you got your call. Yay! Our son is actually doing really well, thank goodness. He is actually showing me that we as his parents did something right. :)
So I'm still waiting to hear what my son will be doing in this 900 division. He said he is too tall to carry a flag so for sure he won't be doing that. LOL. I got to talk to him for about 42 minutes on Sunday! It was awesome!! He loves it and wishes they worked out a little more. LOL. He played football all four years of HS and weight trained daily after the season ended this past school year. I'm sure they are keeping him busier this week. Have a wonderful week!!
We were able to talk to our son for about half an hour. It was great to hear his voice! He sound really good. He is in DIV 941 and will be a "body snatcher". On one hand I hope to see him in the two PIR's, but that may mean someone is going to faint, or so I am told!!
Hello all, Lauracat19, at our sailors graduation, someone did faint. They are taught to not lock their legs because it cuts off blood circulation. They are standing for a long period of time. So it could be so. Although I hope not. I would be so afraid of someone getting hurt because the floors are concrete. But I think that's the mama in me. Lol! Btw...I haven't read anything about body snatchers, but it sure sounds bad to the bone. :)
Hi everyone!! My son is in DIV 944. We got to talk to him yesterday. He said he was week. He had to have his wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday and has been in light duty until today. He will graduate on 9/7. Just wondering if anybody else has a recruit in this DIV. He said is job is Staff duty, that they are in charge of running the PIR. I can’t wait to see him, 6 weeks to go.
Just found out that if your SR is in one of the 900 divisions you may be able to see pics of them via other (prior) PIRs (mine is in division 943 so she might perform at the 08/17 & 08/24 PIR) - apparently they perform during PIRs... who knew! I'll definitely be watching those PIRs trying to get a glimps. :)
hruark01 Yes, that is correct. My son is in Div 940 and performed at the PIR last Friday. I tuned in just to see if I could catch a glimpse of him and much to my surprise I got more than a quick glimpse. I got to see him perform, and there are a few great pics after that had been posted from the PIR. I can’t tell you how many times we back over the weekend to watch that part of the PIR. We know exactly where in the ceremony he performs. Made my weekend!!! Will definitely be tuning in again ithis Friday to see him again.
We were able to see our son marching to yesterday's PIR! It was a glimpse but I am so thankful to have seen him. Gave me goose bumps!! I am very appreciative of the people who post videos and photos of our SR's!!
tiffanym0116, since your recruit is in a Sticks/Flags division, then you should see him in the Livestream of the two PIR's ahead of his and in his PIR.
Have you received the form letter because it is a bit early for those with a recruit in the 10/05/2018 TG to have the form letter? If you got the info from the recruiter, then wait on the form letter before sending letters.
lemonelephant ,I did receive the information from the recruiter but I am still waiting on the letter. Some letters have been sent from friends, what happen to them if the letter has not been sent?

tiffanym0116, Your recruit may eventually get the letters if the address is correct, but they could be delayed.
The address available to the recruiter for any recruit early on MAY or may NOT be correct and can be wrong up to 11 business days or more after the recruit's arrival at the RTC if the recruit fails the initial run and then passes (or fails) on the second attempt and is placed in a new division (or STEP or SEPS) or if the RTC needs to move recruits for some reason. Wait on The Form Letter, which now arrives 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival, before sending letters and to know the PIR date for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT).
Again, do not send letters before receiving the form letter.
missisu, 900 divisions only have a brother division if there are two or more 900 divisions in the TG. No, DIV 949 does not have a brother division. DIV 949 will have Battle Stations-21 (BST) with a pair of rifle divisions that are brother divisions, but they are not DIV 949's brother divisions. There aren't currently any sister divisions. Integrated divisions are still called brother divisions. See 800 and 900 Divisions and Ship/Division--How it Works.
Just found out from my sons recruiter that he is in Division 901. No clue why or how since he is not musically talented, nor sings, or was in a drill team. I guess I should be proud since he probably has another responsibility and showed he could handle the duties.
Ship Staff is in charge on PIR day. They greet and welcome the Officers and their distinguished guests as Sideboys. They play the role of "Body Snatcher" walking up and down the rows of Sailors, watching for and sometimes catching any Sailor about to or going down. (They lock their knees sometimes and pass out.) They help the Navy Corpsmen in the back room. They guard doors and perform a myriad of tasks behind the scenes and in front, such as directing people and helping those who require a wheelchair. It is their job to help make sure all goes smoothly. The Honor Guard Drill Team also does a rifle performance at the beginning of the ceremony. Since those in Ship Staff/Honor Guard have duties to perform before and during PIR, they do not march in through the doors when the other divisions march in on the day of PIR.
I was reading that the lower divisions are sometimes the first to depart to the airport and the higher division will leave later. Even a few days later. Anyone with experience or knowledge about this? I know it best to hear from our SR. Just curious.
To all you moms whose sons or daughters will be going to the School of Music here in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, my husband and I invite the sailors, soldiers and marines over to our home on the weekends. We feed them, play board games, etc. Check out our page on this site to find out more about us. :)
