Hi,  Our daughter is on Ship 02; division 927 her projected graduation date if May 10th is there any other moms with recruits in the same division.

    Have a great day!

  • Navy Mom Sheree

My son's recruiter indicated that he may be in division 937 with a PIR date of 7/19/19. I am still waiting on the official letter. He left for bootcamp on 5/14/19 and I am losing my mind and praying all is well.

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

My son was in Division 907.   Congrats to your son.

  • kteachersailormom

New to the group but very excited to hear my son is in 935.  A bit shocked at first with no musical talent, but I hear it is a good thing.  Best of luck to all of our recruits!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

kteachersailormom - he might not be in a "performing" division.  My son was in division 904 back in 2012 and he was a "body snatcher".  His job was to catch anyone that might pass out during PIR!  He also handed out programs at PIR.  There's other duties besides musical.....And they do usually work 3 PIR's.

  • kteachersailormom

B'sNukeMoM- thank you for the information.  Hopefully I will soon know more about his duty and get to talk to him soon.  Do you know how they are picked for these duties?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

As my son told us the story - when he got to boot camp they asked him how tall he was.  He replied 6'3" and they responded "you are actually 6' 3 3/4" - go stand over there".  And from that he was put in the 904 division and was made a body snatcher lol!  He later said they told him they wanted someone big enough to be able to "catch" someone if they were to pass out.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

This was him working at his own PIR - before the ceremony he was passing out programs when we walked in (I can't even tell you how surprised I was when we walked through the door and he was right there!) and then he was directing people in the aisles.

  • kteachersailormom

B'sNukeMom- you made me smile.  And who wouldn't be so proud to walk in and see that?!!! I bet you were super surprised. Now I am wondering if my recruit has gotten any "taller?" Lol

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Surprised is an understatement!  I was not expecting to see him as soon as I walked in the door to PIR - it caught me so off guard that I burst out crying lol!  And I wanted to hug him so bad but he literally whispered under his breath "no hugs now mom, but later".  And after PIR I did get the biggest hug ever!

  • kteachersailormom

We got our first phone call yesterday!  So good to hear his voice.  And he sounded wonderful.  Still has his humorous side which let me know he was doing ok.  Connection was not the greatest.  Sometimes we could barely hear him, other times he was muffled BUT WE GOT A CALL!! Happy Memorial Day!

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

kteachersailormom, awww, very nice you got to talk to your son.

  • Sara

New to this discussion. Anyone have a recruit in division 935 with PIR of July 3rd?  My son is assigned to 935

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Congrats.  My son was in Division 907.  His PIR was December 14, 2018.

  • Navy Mom Sheree

Watching the PIR for today and I am in tears as usual. Only 4 more Fridays and I get to see my Sailor who is in Division 937. He will be performing in the Honor Guard. I am one proud mommy. I talked with him on Sunday for an hour and he sounded so string and grown up. He said that he is adjusting well and getting much better.

  • ErikaWithaK

Navy Mom Sheree. My son is Div 940!! I'll be watching live in the future for hopes to see my son performing. :)

  • Navy Mom Sheree

Cant wait to watch the PIR for this week 7/3. My son will be performing in the Honor Guard. It will be my first glimpse of him since 5/14/19. Im super anxious!

  • Deanna

Hi everyone, just got my 1st letter from my daughter and happy to see she’s in a 900 division.

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Congrats.  Our son was in a 900 Division. Very nice.

  • Deanna

What do they do in division 944 ?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Mom of a future sailor - I posted some information up above from a former sailor regarding the duties in the 900 Division.

My son was a "body snatcher" back in 2012.  His job was to "catch" anyone who might pass out and fall at PIR.  He also handed out programs at PIR.  Look back a previous page and you'll see a picture I had posted of him at his PIR.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh and for the record - my son had not been in ROTC prior to joining the Navy.

  • 5PurpleTulips

My girl was delayed a week for P-Days, but we found out why and it might just be worth it- She's in 945! So happy for her! Not sure if she's Rifle, Band or Choir, she could do any of those things with her experience in Marching Band and Color Guard but I think Choir is her favorite. Can't wait to see how this unfolds for her! :-)

  • ErikaWithaK

5PurpleTulips that is awesome! My son was delayed for the same reason. He's in 940. 945 would be either Triple Threat (music) or Sticks (flags). Such a great opportunity!!

  • ErikaWithaK

I found out yesterday that my son will be serving coffee and lemonade in the VIP room during his PIR. He doesn't know as of yet when they'll release him of his duties at his PIR. Has anyone had an SR work behind the scenes that can give me a little insight? Thanks in advance! :)

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

I never knew that type of duty existed for PIR.

  • ErikaWithaK

Tammy-Girl, I never imagined. 940 is Honor Guard/Staff Ship and they essentially "run" the graduation so I guess that's part of it! :-/

  • MoMom

My son cut fruit in the awards room during PIR. The ceremony was definitely worth seeing, despite the fact that he wasn’t participating in it. He was released with everyone else at liberty call following PIR. He just had to come through the door.

  • ErikaWithaK

MoMom, thank you! Good to know he gets released at the same time, that's what I was hoping. Yes, he also mentioned he's been cutting pineapple into fancy shapes on Saturdays too. Lol I actually feel like I may be able to soak in more of the ceremony not anxiously looking for my son.

  • NAVYMOMK

ErikaWithaK—my sailor was in 990 division.  He was in charge of opening the door for all the military VIPs that attended graduation.   Although he worked 2 graduations prior to his and then his he had never seen a PIR until I sent him the link to watch his.   He was able to enter the hall when they called liberty and even was on the video but he never saw one in person

  • ErikaWithaK

NAVYMOMK, that's the same boat my son will be in (pardon the pun :-p) I'll have to send him the link as well, great idea! I just have to remind myself that being selected for a 900 division is an honor. <3 (so wishing we good use emojis on here :D)

  • Deanna

Good morning all. Just wondering if anyone has received a call from their SR.  I still haven’t . My daughter is in div 944, anyone else in that div hear any news how they’re doing?

  • Deanna

I got a call from my SR this evening! I was so happy to hear her voice. She has been sick but hanging in there. Misses home and my cooking. She said she’s in the state flags div and really likes it.

  • ErikaWithaK

    DIV 940 ARE SAILORS!!!

    HOOYAH!!

  • Chasemom

    Ship 2 Division 947

    Graduation date of 9/27

    Anyone else?

  • Rose of OH

Hi, Chasemom! Our SR is Ship 2, Division 947, PIR 27 Sept, too!

  • poolywho

Have a future sailor in Div 947 Ship 02

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

    poolywho-----congratulations!!

  • Rose of OH

Hi poolywho! Looking forward to a call or letter soon to hear what life is like in Ship 02 Div 947!

  • poolywho

My sailor is my daughter's long time boyfriend.  She just got letters from him and he says all is well.  He really likes those in charge of him.  He is in the flag group and is enjoying that.

  • Rose of OH

So glad you heard a good word from your daughter's boyfriend, poolywho. It's like winning a prize to open the mailbox and see that letter in there!
  • Rose of OH

So, here are a couple of news bits I got from my son in the first "real" letter from him. He wrote it on Wednesday, it was postmarked Thursday, and arrived today. Not bad for the USPS.

He claims that the first 48 hours after arrival at BC was rough, since they weren't allowed to sleep for 40 hours. Yep, 40--not a typo! He said they had to stand almost the entire time, except while they were eating, so his feet were pretty tired (his exact words were "my dogs were barking for a couple of days.) After that, it hasn't been bad at all, he said.

He said that they "were in HOLD from Tuesday through Sunday" the first week--waiting for the DIV to fill up, I assume--, then did all of their medical last week and got cleared for "full duty" on Friday.

He likes being in a 900 DIV, and said his selection for it was connected with his ASVAB scores, Rating, run time, etc, though he did not know that in advance. (He certainly is NOT a musician, nor has he ever marched or carried a flag or been in ROTC or anything like that.)

He had a chance to write to us on Wednesday because he had all 4 wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday, which meant he was able to stay in his rack (bed) and rest, study, and sleep all day Wednesday.

At 24, my SR is the second to oldest in the DIV. He said that counting him, there are about 10 Nukes in the DIV. (I don't know if any of the Nukes are females--will have to ask. Just curious.)

Apparently, they all have jobs in their compartment, and his is "Forward Hold P.O." which involves passing out supplies from the cleaning closet. Not exactly a grueling task! But he's practically a grandpa there, you know. LOL

He passed both his initial written test and PFA workout. Yay!

He said there are "about 47 guys and 40 females" in DIV 947. They will be performing State Flags in 3 graduations starting September 13 and ending with their own. My SR is currently assigned the CA flag, but that could change. Nothing is guaranteed in the military!

He said as of Wednesday they had not been given any hint as to when they might be able to call home, but he said if they find out when long enough in advance, he'll try to write and give us a heads up.

He mentioned Sandboxx, which I have read about on this website, and said it really expedites mail, so I may figure it out and give it a try.

Has anyone else connected with DIV 947 heard from their sailor yet? I hope they are all having a positive experience!

  • Chasemom

Hi Rose, we got a letter yesterday from our SR. It sounds like things are going ok for them.

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Rose of OH --how exciting, thanks for sharing.  My son had his PIR 12/14/18 --but I so enjoyed reading your son's Navy journey through boot camp.  My son was in a 900 Division as well, it was all male though.  Kudos to your son.  My son never thought boot camp was that bad.  So happy and proud of you and him.

  • Deanna

Rose of OH - Thank you for the very thorough explanation, it made things make a lot more sense. My daughter is in DIV 944. She too said she carries a flag.

  • Rose of OH

Chasemom, I'm happy you got your letter! My son says he thinks their Division has what it takes to be exemplary!

Tammy_Girl I'm glad your son had a good experience in Boot Camp!

MomofaFutureSailor(Deanna) Glad you found my wordy post helpful! Yep, I think I've got the 900's rotation worked out in my head now, and 947 is the next Flag (or "Sticks") Division after 944. (I could be fuzzy on that, but one of our expert moderators can help me out if I'm wrong!)

I just posted a link to Boot Camp Terms on the discussion for Ship 02 Division 947:  https://navyformoms.ning.com/group/900sdivisionsailors/forum/topics...

  • Deanna

DIV 944 making phone calls! Got to talk to my daughter for almost an hour! So excited. She sounded well and in good spirits. Prayers for test number two and next week’s PFA.

  • MyNavyRoo

Just found out my Son is Ship 2 div 952!!!  Not sure what he will be doing as he does not play music and wasn't part of rotc.

  • chatwithchristi

MyNavyRoo, Div 952 should be Ship Staff/Honor Guard. My son was in 940 and was Honor Guard and did not have music or ROTC experience. Honor Guard carries the rifles at graduation for inspection. Ship Staff can be an assortment of duties at graduation.

  • lakerunner11

Just found out my SR is ship 2 div 951!  I can't wait to hear more.
