The information below is from the USNavy Recruit Training Command FB Page for Div 52. You can reprint the form via the link below. I received the correct form though--for 4 guests.

Be sure to read the "900 Division Duties" info that I posted up above - it describes the various jobs.  My son was a "body snatcher".  Their job is to catch any of the Sailors that might pass out at PIR!

  • Sheri

B'sNukeMom how can i find the 900 list you posted
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Sheri - which list are you referring to?  At the top of this page I posted the "900 Division Duties".  That explains what they do.  Is this what you mean?  It explains Staff Divisions, State Flags and Triple Threat.

Kind of hating Watermelon Carver position for Ship Staff. I hate that I won’t see my son perform or march in with the rest of the graduating divisions during his own PIR. Not feeling like this special position is special at all. RTC doesn’t even capture photos of those working in the awards room. Venting here, as none of his family will get to see him during the live stream, in person, or even by photograph. Such a special day for him and our family, and it will be like he wasn’t even there, and like his accomplishment isn’t being celebrated as well. I don’t mind him being behind the scenes at other PIRs, as it’s not his day, and he has a job to do, so do it. However, when it’s his TG’s PIR, I think it stinks.

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Unsure if my response went through. Just wanted to say we actually enjoyed A School graduation better.

  • Virginia Rose

I so wish I could attend A school graduation, but my husband is military as well, and we cross country move to our next duty station a month and a half before he graduates. Or I’d be there for that one in a heartbeat!

  • ErikaWithaK

Virginia Rose, my son did coffee and lemonade (worked with watermelon cutter). I too was bummed that I didn’t get to see him during PIR or get any glimpse of him in a pic. However he said it was the best job because they got to eat and drink all the leftovers on Saturday and no one else got to do that. Lol But I totally understand how you’re feeling. I would suggest sitting in the second level seats to get a better view of everything since you won’t see your SR. By the time we got downstairs after Liberty was called, my son was standing in the drill hall.
  • Virginia Rose

ErikaWithaK, Thank you for that. Did your son get a yearbook? Wondering if a yearbook would make me feel better if there are pictures of the divisions in action that I might get to see him in.

  • ErikaWithaK

Virginia Rose, he ordered one but it hasn’t come yet. I’ve heard it takes awhile. We just received the DVD of his PIR a week or so ago (his PIR was 8/9/19). With his pictures was an 11x14 division picture and a fun 5x7 division picture. Also follow the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command page on Facebook. I was able to get a glimpse of my son in a video as they were marching.

Hello!  Anyone have a sailor in div 904?

  • Mama Scha

My son is on 02 division 903. Is this a group for me?

  • Baker1013

Hi there!  We finally got the form letter and my SR is officially in Ship 02, Div 903.  Anyone else have that?  I also have been looking for the PIR for December 13th.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Baker1013 - the 12/13/19 PIR group has not been formed yet but it should be coming soon.

Mama Scha - yes this is a group for you too.  Looks like you  & Baker1013 are both 12/13/19 PIR and NavyCorpsmenSGMom your division 904 is a 12/20/19 PIR.

Hopefully the PIR groups will be up soon.

Be sure to read the info at the top of this page which explains the different duties your SR could be doing.

  • NavyCorpsmenSGMom

It looks like I was wrong on the DIV...I believe she is 902 not 904. I should have listened and waited for the letter to come :( I was too excited to send her letters and such and her recruiter was wrong, just my luck.

  • lemonelephant

NavyCorpsmenSGMom, you believe or you know since you have now received the form letter???

That is why we say not to send letters until you have the form letter.

  • NavyCorpsmenSGMom

    lemonelephant

She is Ship 02 DIV 904 like I was told by the recruiter. I now KNOW this to be fact as I have received the form letter last week.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

NavyCorpsmenSGMom - I see you joined the 12/20/19 PIR group.  You should be good to go now!

  • somar

Just received the form letter and learned my sailor is in Dic. 918.
  • Rose F

    My SR is in 919

  • Letty

    My SR is 920

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

You all have SR's graduating in separate weeks.

    918 - 3/27/2020

    919 - 4/3/2020

    920 - 4/10/2020

The April PIR groups should be up soon.

  • splehammarg

Anyone have an SR in Div 916?  They perform for the 06 March PIR on Friday!  Make sure you watch http://navylive.dodlive.mil/ beginning 8:45am to see the 916 perform   :)

  • Krissy

My sailor is group 921. I’m searching for others
  • Krissy

Received a call from my SR in 921(not scheduled, but for help choosing a job). This may only apply to 921: BST is now xxxxxxx. PIR is this Friday 4/10.

  • Samantha

My SR is 924.  Good Luck on BST

  • Catherine

    Does the band have clarinets?

Pros and cons of being in 900 division?

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Catherine, our son was in a 900 division.  We got to see him up-close as we sat in the front row.  He was not in the band.  Congrats to your sailor.

  • Catherine

    Thanks Tammy.

I am still a bit confused as to pros and cons of being in a 900 Division.  Are recruits selected for this or do they volunteer?  Sounds like maybe they ask recruits if they have experience in marching drills, band or JROTC and then put them in 900?  And then they spent some of their free time practicing for the PIR ceremony?  Would it be better for a recruit to just be in a regular division?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Catherine - my son was in the 900 division back in 2012.  He said he was "voluntold" lol.  He's tall -  6'4" and he got picked to be a "body snatcher" because of his size.  His job was to walk around at PIR and "catch" any sailor that looks like they might pass out while in formation.  It is extra work - they will work the 2 PIR's previous to theirs (although right now there aren't any live PIR's so I'm not sure what's happening).  When they were livestreaming the PIR's you might have had a chance to see them at the previous PIR's, but again, that's not happening right now.

The Division Duties are explained up above so there are different things they could be doing.

The pros are it gives them something else to do!

The cons are it gives them something else to do!

I believe my son missed one of his division phone calls home because he was "practicing" with another PIR but they allowed him a call separate from his group.  It all worked out!

  • Catherine

Thanks for the info. Good to know.

However, I just realized that with this Covid situation, PIR may still not even have audiences/guests when he graduates in the early Fall, so it might be a moot point.

  • Maestra

My son was in a 900 without a PIR. He said once the change happened they were just like any other division but with holes in their schedule. However, I was thrilled that he was chosen / chose to be part of it. (He was in the choir.) That part won't be taken away.

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Catherine, sorry I'm late in responding.

To my knowledge, recruits are selected for a Division 900.  Our son was never in the band or JROTC.  I'm wondering if our son was picked because of his "can do" attitude and also being physically fit and always hitting his performance tests.  I think being in a 900 Division is an honor.  But really all divisions are awesome in my book.

How's everything else for your recruit?

  • belly's mom 25

Hello - I wanted to post here as I just found out our daughter is in a 900 division. We just got our first letter yesterday with a projected graduation of  10/1/ . I think she was volunteered for it as she has marching band experience?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

belly's mom - glad to see you here!

Usually they are "voluntold" that they will be in a 900 division lol!

And yes, with the live PIR's back now you will have a very good chance of seeing your daughter in the 2 PIR's prior to hers - so be sure to watch them!

Be sure to read the info I have posted up above about the Division Duties - that will give you an idea of what she's doing.

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

belly's mom 25, congratulations on your daughter being in a 900 division.  What an honor.  I hope you get to see her in-person at her own PIR.  Woo-Hoo.

  • belly's mom 25

Thank you everyone. I watched a few PIR's online just to start to get a sense of what to expect. Do you know what the role is for these recruits when they assist in the PIR's leading up to their own?  I will watch the few before hers just in case. Any chance to get eyes on her early I'm going to take it :)

  • Wendy

Hi!  Thanks for the welcome!  Just found out Sunday, after hearing from her for the first time since 8/4, my daughter is in div. 910!

  • belly's mom 25

Hi Wendy That is awesome you finally got to hear from her. I know that is the longest wait ever. My kiddo is in 908 and is slated to graduate 10/1. In her more recent letter I found out she is playing the base drum. You  have probably already read the posts but you should check out the 2 PIR's before your daughters because there is a good chance she will be participating  and you may get to see her early.

  • Wendy

Belly's mom, thank you. I did hear or see that somewhere. That's so exciting! Congratulations to you for your daughter's success thus far! Good luck to her!
  • mytidbitz

Aré all 900’s on ship 2?  I was told by my daughters recruiter that’s she was in the 900’s but she’s not on ship 2.

  • Wendy

My daughter is Div 910 and on ship 04
  • mytidbitz

Good Morning.  Does anyone have a recruit graduating on 11/24?

  • Elina

    Hi, ladies!

I just found out with today's mail that my son is Division 902.

His dad and I are very surprised. My son has no musical inclination and did not participate in any ROTC program. Return address also indicates Ship 04?!

  • Tammy⚓️Girl

Elina, congratulations to your son.  My son had/has no musical inclination, but he was in a division 900.  That is very prestigious; so kudos to your son.  Our son stood guard at the perimeter of the PIR graduation hall.. basically keeping an eye on attendees to make sure nobody got out of hand.

  • Saltybabe

Hi - My son is Ship 6 Div 925.  Does anyone else have an SR in 925?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Be sure to read the 900 Division Duties up above.  I've tried to update as best as I could.

And remember - your SR will perform at the 2 PIR's prior to theirs.  Be sure to watch the live PIR and you may catch a glimpse of them depending on what job they have.
