Good morning all..I have a question about traveling to PIR. Our son graduates 01/04/2013. There will be 7 traveling in our group from lansing, MI, to waukegan, IL. by train. Like most families today,we are a split family.
My question is. We know we get a Military dis. For the hotel, but we all are paying separate. Can we still get the discount for all. Even tho we will not be paying with same CC? Thanks for your time...
You only get a military discount for anyone who is millitary in your party and only for rooms paid for by that person. There are discounts at some of the hotels for PIR and if that is what you refer to, then all of the rooms can receive that discount even if they are paid for by more than one guest.
Can someone explain how the Navy Lodge works? I've read all you need is Ship and Div #, I read your SR has to sign you up ahead of time, I've read you have to have them go to the lodge at some point during their liberty...I'm confused! How does it work?
SailorV'swife, all I had to provide at Navy Lodge was the parking pass which includes your SR's name, ship, division & date of PIR. U will be able to print it once closer to graduation. Navy Lodge is affordable, so well equipped and roomy! Front desk will hand u necessary info, a map and answer all your questions. They are awesome!!
Please note the following: The following RTC policy will be enforced for all graduations beginning with the January 4th, 2013 PIR. ALL GUESTS, including Active Duty/Retired Military Personnel, and those aged three and older MUST be on the access list. (Please note: Children two and under do not need to be on the access list.)
I know for us that means that our daughter no longer has an extra ticket.
Anyone on here have a son on ship 14 division 065. I just got word from his recruiter on his PIR. January 18th, 2013..but still waiting on the official packet.
985cat, join the group, PIR 01/18/2013 (clickable link), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. Know that Divisions 065 and 066 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.
Hello! We just returned home from our Sailors PIR on Friday. Just wanted to say that the Navy Lodge was exceptional. We were lucky enough to get a family suite (only 4 available i think) and it was unbelievably huge. It had 2 sides, on one had a queen then a divider and 2 twins and a double sink bathroom. Then on the other side it had a living room with couch and 2 chairs, a dining area and a full brand new kitchen. It was immaculate! It was great because all our sailor wanted to do was take a long hot shower and we order dinner in and watched TV and talked. It was fantastic! It is really close to the base (actually on base) and we had rented a car since they do not offer a shuttle. I would highly recommend it. It was clean, close and they are very nice!
I thought this was a general forum and have now seen it is ship specific?? Im so confused. In my activity it shows Ship12 but my son is Ship14. Newbie:/
Lzbrg22, I'm not sure what you are referring to even after checking your profile and the activity there. Yes, this group is for everyone. I see you have joined the group, PIR 01/18/2013 TG 10 - 11 Divisions (059-068 and 910), and that your son is in Division 065. Division numbers are more important than the Ship number. You only need the ship number when addressing letters. You may also want to join the groups, Boot Camp Moms and New Members Stop Here. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within those groups and your PIR group as well as the Discussions above.
I just figured out what you are referring to. The creator of this group, YMM, had a Sailor who was on Ship 12 when she created the group. Some people keep the Ship and Division numbers in their Username even after BC. This group is for everyone to get answers about PIR or share experiences to help those who come after them in this journey.
Can someone clear up some confusion for me? I've heard conflicting things about the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites - if our Sailor is moving over to the other base in Great Lakes for A-school, are they allowed to come to the Gateway Inn during their liberty??
In regards to the Gateway Inn - your sailor can visit ther however; there is NO OVERNIGHT STAY AUTHORIZED. Two reasons, 1 - No sailor will have overnight Liberty. Secondly - NTSC Regulations prohibit overnight lodging except for PHASE III sailors. Hope this answers your questions
Thanks Sarge. I knew there were no overnights. But I've read repeatedly - including in my current PIR group just minutes ago, that TSC sailors are not allowed at the Gateway. It's just confusing. Thanks for the response. :) Do you know if that was the rules at one point and maybe that's where that info is coming from?
SailorV'sWife, I just read the comments in your PIR group about that. Yes, it is true that you will have some limitations due to being on base. Have your Dependent ID on you at all times and that will help. Parents of Sailors have had trouble when staying at the Gateway and going outside alone since they do not have dependent ID and must always be accompanied by someone with military or dependent ID.
This is in response to Tiff who asked about her recruit coming to her room at the Gateway Inn & Suites on base: The answer is no. The students are NOT permitted to go to the Gateway regardless of whose room they wish to visit. They are briefed on this and are instructed they are not allowed there.
LI mom,you may need to switch browsers or computers in order to print it. Changing to Mozilla Firefox has helped some. You will need to handwrite in the info after printing.
@johnsmom. My son was allowed to call again after the I am a sailor call. But he went through battlestations Thursday night. So he called Friday and Wednesday. So it depends on when they do bs and if the chief lets them call. Hope this helps.
JohnsMom(Monica), the new Sailors are given an amount of time to make calls and they can choose how to divide that up--one call or many calls. My Sailor was also able to call back later because some didn't use all of their time and there was still time before the Sailors had to go back to their ship and those who wanted to make another call were permitted to do so.
snowmanmom, Unless you get a call saying that your SR will not have PIR on time, everything is fine, Yes, lots of divisions have problems in the first half of BC, but it would be very rare for an entire division to set back.
Question if I may :) Are children generally allowed at the Sarge's Meet and Greet or adults only? On the airline departure to A School - I know we can get there and spend time and we need state ID's but is there a rule about children? And how would they get clearance without a state ID? When I say children, I have another daughter - 17 and a son -13.
Yes, children are welcome at the M&G...may want to bring them some kind of activity to keep them busy though...hand held game, color books, or whatever...as you will be there for a couple hours. Children are allowed a gate pass at the airport as well, but you will need their legal birth certificate (or I think a school ID works too possibly) as a form of ID for them.
SoCal Ohana, page 3 of the Family Guide at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide.pdf tells what forms of ID are accepted: All guests 18 years and older, must present valid government issued photo identification (driver’s license, state ID card, passport, military ID card). Guests 17 years or younger who do not possess one the items listed above must present one of the following: school ID card, driver’s permit, copy of their birth certificate or social security card.
We are a "split family" so the four that my SR has on the list are me and her step-dad and her dad and step-mom. My 16 yr. old daughter (SR's sister) will be with us for the weekend but won't be on the list. I see that things have changed at the beginning of this year. Her step-mom is pretty high rank in the Naval Reserve and her dad is National Guard so we originally planned on those two not needing to be on the list. But since the change, that won't be possible. I saw some older posts that said extras could wait in the visitors center and hope to get a seat. But I've also seen some posts that say there is no longer any stand by lists.
Any info from anyone that has attend PIR since the beginning of the year would be helpful.
Dylansmom, as Melinda indicated, you can give your Sailor his cell phone at the airport. PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend will tell you more. Will your SR be an AG or one of the Seabee ratings (jobs/specialties)?
Dylansmom, Join the group, Seabee Moms, and you will be able to connect with others with loved ones who have (or will have) the Steelworker (SW) rating.
My son arrived on Jan 23, 2013. I have received box, but still awaiting the Form Letter with ship number. Anyone else have their Form Letter yet with this group?
deltaflyer59, yes, some have received the form letter with a PIR date of 03/22/2013, so your form letter should be coming soon. The PIR group for that date is PIR 03/22/2013 (clickable link).
How do we know where A school will be? We received the box and PIR info this week, but we have no idea where my brother will be the next day so we can't plan out trip accordingly until then.

Congratulations to you and your Sailor! Our PIR is 11/30. Can't believe it's almost here, so exciting. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Molly'sMom, the extras will need to wait at the hotel. They can sleep in and maybe take in some pool time if your hotel has a pool. The extras are not authorized to be on the RTC and they would not be comfortable waiting in the car for 4 hours.
