I was wondering that myself! Hopefully no news is good news! We wish them luck!
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

NO I'm a sailor call yet! WE will just continue to wait but you will know as soon as I do!!!!
  • sbarber

Did any of ya'll find the blue plug in candles anywhere yet? I have heard of them and seen them in peoples window sils in magazines and such but I sure can't find any anywhere except the scentsy ones I mentioned..... I'm so excited for these young men to get this over with and get on with their careers and healed and happy ;-) too exciting.
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

I heard you can get them in the Christmas decorations!!!!!!
  • sbarber

@Donna SWEET!!!!!!! I'll be looking again then lol since its Halloween already Christmas stuff is out now. Thanks
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

No call so I guess he didn't get to do Battlestations this week. Hopefully, next week. Maybe I'll know something for sure if he calls this weekend.

The only flameless candles i can find are white or off white, even in the christmas section. I saw the one Scentsy has but it's a warmer and doesn't look like a candle. Finally what I decided to do is buy the white battery operated ones. Found a pack of 3 at Target for $21 (or one candle is $10). I painted all 3 blue. lol Maybe if I leave all 3 lit it'll bring him extra luck. Probably corny but who cares. :) Since I don't know until after the fact about what's going on with Weston and he is so close, I'd like to leave a candle lit at all times right now, just in case. Well....all 3! :)

  • Tylers grandma

WestonsMom, I'm sorry your still waiting. Maybe this coming week will be filled full of good things for you and Weston! Will keep my fingers crossed. I also gave uup on finding the blue flameless candle and opted for just Navy Blue pillar candles. I just have to remember to blow them out. I did find some flameless candles but they were 70 dollars and I'm not spending that.
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

I would forget to blow out real candles plus I want to keep them lit. You can find the battery operated ones for $10 each at target and lowes. I think I also saw them at walmart online.
  • sbarber

@Weston'smom: He's gonna get through this real soon and so are you :-) maybe with the physical therapry and PFA and everything he just needed a breather before BS21 it's a long grueling 12 hour all nighter. I know that your super excited and just want this over with but, it may be for the best that it didn't all happen at once since he's been worried about re-injury. Fingers crossed and candle's lit. P.S. good idea on painting the candle.
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

sbarber...thanks. you know what they say, everything happens for a reason! I think I'm gonna need a looooonng vacation when this is all over! :)

Lets hope we get calls tomorrow!

  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

you can also get the blue Christmas bulbs to put in them. No call for me either!!!

  • sbarber

Oh you guys are so great I hope that after your boys do BS21 and are off to their A schools you come back here with me and continue to support the other moms going through this we have walked this thing together for me since July from start to finish and we know how hard it is. And p.s. I'm going to Wal-mart today to get the candle and bulbs :-) Have a good day.

  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

sbarber...I will definately try. This site has helped me out a lot and helped me keep my sanity...well some of it! lol
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

I will be here!!!! I have been on this roller coaster since July 26th. The ride just seems to keep going.
  • sbarber

Bahahahaha some sanity is correct lol and I feel ya my boy went in 7/8 and it was a long 7 weeks ugh..... but at least we all had each other. And I promise it gets so much better as you both are about to find out. My husband and son are fixing to meet up as I type wish it were me :-( but oh well I am happy they are having the day together it was iffy though he had to find a last minute liberty buddy and the base is like 20 miles out of town but the planets aligned lol so I guess truck driving has its benefits. Have a great day ya'll.
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

sbarber...that's wonderful! At least one of you got to see him! Have a great day!
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

well we are going on week 13 in RCU. I am ready for it to be over for him you know it has to be hard.

  • Tylers grandma

well, Tyler has now been in RCU for 14 weeks. It seems like he has been much longer than that but it hasnt. Now that I know he will not go any farther it really seems to drag on. It was hard to get used to the idea that he would never be able to graduate with the others but it must be pretty hard for him to stay back and watch all the new friends he has made get to move on. This is not one of my better days. Better go light the candle.

  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

tylers gma...you're right. I bet that is worse. I'm sorry you feel down and that this happened to him. Are they sure it can't be fixed?
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

Tyler's Grandma- I am sure it has to be hard for him. Why are they not letting him go home. If they aren't going to let him continue in the Navy I don't see why he can't go home and be with his family.
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

colten's mom...from what i understand if there's an injury, they treat it until it's healed and then discharge the SR. I'm still not sure what the deciding factor is though as to if they get discharged or not.

  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

That stinks if they are healed then they should be allowed to stay!!!!! Poor Guy!!!!
  • Tylers grandma

Thanks for your kind words everyone. Apparently his nerve injury will take quite some time to heal if it ever does. There talking another 6 month from what it sound like. He doesnt want to be sent home but I dont believe he will have a choice. I recieved a letter from him today and am expecting a phone call tomorrow. He says he has more news on his injury so will patiently wait.
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

Well I am so sorry for all that y'all are having to endure. How did he get injured??My prayers are with y'all.
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

tylers gma... did he say if it's good news? be sure to ask about the SMART team and let us know.

  • tks4

Here is a website that sells blue battery operated candles--www.batteryoperatedcandles.net

  • tks4

Tylers grandma, I am so sorry to hear your news. I haven't been on lately but my daughter is the one that the dentist cut her trigeminal nerve( the nerve that leads to your brain) when they removed her wisdom teeth. This happened in April. She had one surgery to correct but now is having brain surgery. She is stiil at bootcamp but of course is being seperated. Due to her circumstance unfortunately this is taking a long time. Long story of what she has been through and unfortunately even after her brain surgery once released from hospital she will come home but will have to return.
  • sbarber

@tks4: OMG thats horrible I'm so sorry to hear she has gone through all of this hell and it's still not over with. Have you been allowed to be with her at least. Seems like thats the least they could do. My heart is breaking hearing this I will be saying a special prayer for her. And thanks for the candle info too.

@tylersgrandma: Please keep us posted. My son and your grandson went to RCU at the same time and my son knows him and said that he's a great guy. It really sucks the things that happen to some of these poor kids in boot camp WOW.

  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

tks4...that is awful!!! did the dentist get in any kind of trouble? I'm glad I didn't read that before mine had his wisdom teeth done, I would've been a nervous wreck! I didn't even know that could happen! That's just awful! You said she'll get to come home but will have to return where...boot camp? How long has she been away from home and is she okay?
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

tks4: Oh wow that is horrible! I can't imagine what you are going thru are you going to get to be with her when she has surgery. My prayers are with you both!!!!!
  • tks4

I am not sure if they will fly me out again for this surgery. The Navy personal involved with her first surgery took very good care of me. The civilian doctor who did her first surgery as well as the hospital staff were also very nice. I don't know if I can afford round trip flight, hotel, and transportation to and from hospital. It all seems really expensive but I work at a school where we take care of each other in times of need. I am sure I will receive support from them. I am also allowed to use my sick leave which I have over 120 days to use.      WestonsMom- I have no idea if the dentist got into any trouble. I would hope that they just think about what they are doing and realize when they think they can leave a wisdom tooth alone they will. I know this person didn't mean to harm my daughter .
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

I sure hope they will fly you out for each surgery she has to have. Im sure that it was an accident. I just hope the Navy takes some kind of precaution from now on so this won't happen again. Is she okay though? What i mean is what kind of damage did it cause? I'm so sorry this happened to your daughter. I just can't imagine what you're going through.
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

Well no call today!!! Darn I was wanting some information about when he thought he would be doing BS21.
  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

How does this ship work? My RS is there for a fractured leg. Once he's well, will he move into a division that is near where he was when injured? Does anyone have a clue?
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

Colten's mom... same here! No call and no info. I feel like a nervous wreck! :(

CoastalKat....it seems to depend on what week/day of training your SR was on when going to RCU. If it was early in boot camp I think chances are likely that SR will go back to a division at the same point of training. If SR was further in training, seems to depend on SR if they want to return to a division or finish training while in RCU. I'm not positive and someone should correct me if i'm wrong but that is what it seems like to me.

  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

that is my understanding as well. It all depends on how far along they are in boot camp when they are injured.

Yes I am a nervous wreck as well!! I wonder if Tylers Grandma got a call?

  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

Did anyone get a call this weekend?
  • Tylers grandma

Well, I did not get a call from Tyler today. I really thought I would. I was reading some of the comments  abit earlier about when they go back into training from RCU. Tyler went into bootcamp on June 21 and was injured on July 8th He has been in RCU ever sense. Information is very hard to come by. Most of the time when Tyler calls he hasnt gotten results back from the dr. visit or didnt understand what they were talking about when he did get some answers. Last time I talked to him he said they were going to keep him in at least 6 more months as it would take that long for him to be fit for travel. I got a letter yesterday and he said he had news on his condition and he would call me today but I never heard anything. Frustrating? Yes. But I have to hang in there for him.  That is all we can do. We are all in the same boat. Maybe we will all hear from them tomorrow and we can have happier chats tomorrow. God Bless you all and our children too.
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

tylers gma...i'm sorry you didn't get to find out more today. it's gonna take 6 more months to be fit for travel? i wonder why they say that. the nerve damage is just in his hand, right?
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

Tylers Grandma- I am so sorry that you and tyler are having to go thru this. Colten went in on June 21 as well. I would just keep calling legal and RTC until I got some answers. THey are going to discharge him anyway the least they can do is keep you informed. that is not asking too much!!!
  • Tylers grandma

    I finally heard from Tyler. He is finally in Separation. He said it will be approximately 2 weeks and then he will be home. I am so ready for this. He has been so disappointed and feels like he has disappointed everyone, which of course that isnt true. He will be better when he gets home and things will fall right back into place. I have so much that I would like to say but that just keeps me riled up and it isnt going to do him any good.  I wish the best for Weston and Colton and am so thrilled that they are finally getting on with there training and graduations..CostalKat, I hope your son heals quickly also. Tsk4 I wish the best for your daughter and pray for a miracle to heal her.;
  • sbarber

@tylers grandma: I am so sorry to hear that he feels like he has disappointed anyone, just give him tons of love and encouragement and space as well, my husband was a Sgt in the Marine Corp for 12 years he saw marines coping with this same type of thing and it is very hard on them, he said also that he may not be himself for a few months and maybe even pushing people away and thats normal don't take it personally. As women we know that time a patience can make all the difference in the world we also just want to make everything all better and sometimes we just can't but, we can still try. Please tell Tyler that we are proud of him and so sorry he is going through this and that we thank him for trying to serve his country and he should be very proud of that because only a small percentage of the youth today do. God bless you and I pray that he heals quickly and is soon back to hisself. Please keep us updated as he goes throgh his recovery process.
  • tks4

Tylers grandma- Thanks I should hear from my daughter as soon as she is back from having her MRI or 630 her time. Thankfully she has to call us everytime she visits a doctor or I would go crazy. Please keep us posted on how your grandson is doing. I also understand about having so much to say but it would just get one wound up. I think I will write a book when my daughter is finally home. :)
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

tylers gma...I'm so glad you got to hear from tyler finally and thank goodness it's finally moving along with him going home. Weston also felt very down when he got injured and felt like he disappointed so many people. That was his first letter from RCU. He sounded so depressed it made me cry and that I couldn't be there or call him right up and reassure himm. Tyler still should be very proud because he DID try. Please do keep us updated on his recovery and please let us know if we can help him in some way to lift his spirits.

tks4...please let us know as to your daughters update.

I hate to do this. I'm not trying to dismiss or overlook anyone elses news. But.......please BREAK OUT THE BLUE CANDLES!!! Got a letter from Weston today saying he was going to try to get FFD today and run the PFA tomorrow and ALSO BATTLESTATIONS!!! I'm so happy I cried! But then again I seem to cry over everything these days. :P

  • Tylers grandma

Oh my gosh, thats such great news!  I am so happy for him. He must finally be on top of the world. I'm sure you are too. I did light my candle and hopefully Weston continues on with out a hitch. We need to pray that he doesn't get injured again. Thank you for your kindness. I will continue to check back on here even after Tyler is home .
  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

I AM on top of the world but will REALLY be once he's finished with boot camp! Thank you for lighting your candle! I have one at home, one for work and one for my mom! lol I think I've prayed more in the last month than in a whole year! I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say, we look forward to your visits here to update us. I know I will keep my fingers crossed and praying that Tyler has a fast recovery physically and mentally.
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

Tylers grandma I am so glad that you heard from Tyler today. I am sorry that he sounds so down. I am sure once he gets home he will feel better. I know you will.

I found out today that Colten ran and passed his medical PFA last week. He is scheduled to be cleared FFD on Wednesday then Final PFA and battlestations after that. so I have my blue candles out and ready. I am hoping to get a call after he passes PFA and before going to battlestations.

  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

coltens mom...that's great news! do you know when he'll be doing the final PFA or battlestations yet? will it be this thursday?
  • sbarber
