@ Colten's Mom : Wasn't it wonderful!!!!!! We had the same kind of reunion. I have photo's my family took from the balcony because I left them all behind LOL. Have a nice visit at the airport the time will fly by.

  • paces

sbarber...  Thanks for the information.  Yes, you are so right.  He is a man now and the decision is his to make. It is hard to let them go. He is 24, but it still isn't easy.I will share it with him.

Colton's Mom...  I know it was truly wonderful to see him. Where is he going again? I know you told us, but I can't remember.

  • WestonsMom (FL A School)

paces...another thing to consider, if your SR decides to finish boot camp in RCU there will be no PIR, as was my son's case. my son just turned 23 and reminds me all the time that he is a grown man now and not in boot camp. then i remind him that i'm still his mother. lol this time is extremely hard no matter how old they are.

coltens mom...that is great to hear! glad you finally get some time with him!

  • paces

I think he will be okay with no PIR.  His goal has been EOD all the time. When he went in, he told us he would rather us be at his EOD graduation than his PIR if a choice had to be made. We are praying he will be able to keep his contract. Thank you for your support. I don't think I could have managed this far without you guys
  • sbarber

@paces: That's what we are all here for even us old timers LOL. I won't mention names ;-) I hope it all works out how he wants it to and he continues on to do great things with the Navy. Just be there for him as we are for you.
  • paces

Wonderful news!! We received our first phone call since he went into RCU. He sounded so good!!  Prayers have been answered.  Thank you so much for keeping him in yours.  He hopes to have his brace removed and off crutches on Tues. He will be in a walking boot for 3-4 weeks, but can still continue with his training and requirements while in the boot.  He has chosen to finish in RCU.  He will transfer to the THU unit once he finishes BS so they can continue to monitor his leg until he gets a spot for P-school (?) and A-school.  They have upgraded him to the equivalent of a yeoman while in RCU so he is doing paperwork and computer work. I know this is helping him keep his mind off everything. Oh, he gets to keep his contract for EOD. Prayers, Patience and Perseverance. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. Also, several of your SR's (Sailors, now) have let him know we are talking.  Thank you for sharing.
  • sbarber

paces: That's great news!!!!!!!! So happy you were able to speak to him and that he is doing well. Through him all things are possible :-) keep the positive thoughts and letters and prayers going his way.
  • mama bear

to all that has been in RCU and to their loved ones back home hang in there!   It will happen, the future will look brighter, I know my daughter was there for almost 6 to 7 months and now she is about to graduate from A school!
  • paces

sbarber and mama bear...  Thank you for your continued encouragement.  So proud for your daughter.
  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

I agree when you are in the trenches of RCU it is very tough but when you get through it OMG It is so AMAZING!! it makes the struggle worth it. I will never forget the feeling of seeing my son for the first time after 4 1/2 months. I was AWESOME!!!! SO just hang in there and keep the positives going to your recruit!!!!.
  • sbarber

We need a like button on here :-) have a great day everyone.
  • paces

sbarber....absolutely!!!  This is an awesome group!!! So proud for you Colton's Mom.

  • paces

My SR is doing much better. His spirits are better. He is out of his brace and off crutches. They are allowing him to try without a boot to see how he does. He has been able to start physical therapy and actually did a little training last week.  There are a couple of 823 members in with him so he has someone to train with maybe, depending on their injuries. He has been transferred to Phase II.  Prayers are being answered. Please keep praying for our guys in RCU.

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

    Anyone get any calls today?

  • paces

No calls. How is your SR doing? Have you heard from him recently?

  • mama bear

Although my daughter has left there I will always keep all recruits in my prayers and their families until they meet again. The unknown is what is hard when our love one's are in the RCU.  And as parents or spouses we just want to hug them when they are down for any reason.

  • paces

Thank you mamabear.  I am sure I will do the same.  It is truly a rollercoaster experience.

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

I didn't get a letter last week or a phone call yesterday. I wasn't expecting the letter since I got a phone call on the Sunday before. However, was very disappointed in no call yesterday. Guess somebody got into trouble?

  • paces

Oh, I hope not. I am looking forward to a call on Sunday. Our SR has been writing though. We usually get our letter on Thursday. Although, this past week we didn't get it until Friday. What Phase is your SR? Ours just went into Phase 2. Much quicker than we thought, but he still has a long way to go.

  • sbarber

Has anyone heard from tylersgrandma? Kinda wondering how he is progressing that was a scary deal. Hope everybody is doing well.

  • paces

    No. Not in a while.

  • Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A

No but Tyler and Colten got very close in RCU and Colten has been in communication with him. He has to have surgery on his arm and hand but he chose to have it done at home. Not sure when that will take place. I will ask Colten tonight when I talk to him.

I can tell you there is nothing better than getting to see Colten everyday and talk to him everyday!!!! HooYah!!!

  • sbarber

Colten's Mom (Nuke MM): I know thats right girl :-) nothing better than them getting well and getting the heck out of bootcamp LOL. Thanks for the information about Tyler I really have been thinking about him and his poor grandma. Let me know what Colten finds out I'd appreciate it.

paces: Hope things are going well for your SR as well glad that he is moving forward so quickly and doing good.

    CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360): Hope you get a call soon. We all know how hard it is the not knowing. {{{HUGS}}}

    Everyone have a great day!!!!!!

  • paces

sbarber... Thanks for keeping him in your thoughts. We have been blessed.

CoastalKat... You too. Did you get a call Sunday? A true lesson in patience, right?

Colten'sMom... I agree. Thank you for sharing about Tyler.

  • Tylers grandma

Well, Its been a while. Tyler arrived home on November 1st. He didnt call and say he was coming, he didnt call and say he was on his way. He just popped up and there he was, grinning from ear to ear all decked out in his dress blues looking very handsome and 10 pounds lighter. I was on my computer and thought it was my husband coming in for something. He had one of his friends pick him up at the airport. I didnt know wether to be elated or upset! Of course, I was thrilled!

He hasnt accomplished much sense he arrived. We are awaiting Tricare certification so he can go to dr. Havent  recieved anything from GL sense he got home. None of his mail we sent or anything. Tyler is a different person than the one who left here. I was so afraid of that. He has temporarily shut down I think. He jokes to his friends and says every thng is great but he has been on too many muscle relaxers etc. and now there is no more. Thankfully. He has been looking for a job but there is nothing. I feel like they chewed him up and spit him out. I have not written sooner because I have been on a downer myself and thats not what you all need here. Im hoping after the holidays he will be better and when we can get some things going with his medical we will be better set to know just what he can do and wether they will do the surgery he needs or wait till the deadline so he has to pay for it himself. It is too bad that they dont give these kids medical discharges but they dont. They are on there own. If any one elses kids are injured, fight tooth and nail to stay in because you will tossed aside like an old shoe if discharged. I will write more later . I am going to back up and regroup and promise not to have a pity party. I am thankful that he is home and know that things will get better. It will just take time. Congratulations to Colton and Weston I wish them all the best of luck and moms, hankg in there!

  • paces

Tylers grandma.... Good to hear from you. We will continue to keep your family and Tyler in our prayers. It sounds like he still has a long road to recovery. At least he has kept in touch with his friends and hopefully can lean on them for support. We are here for you. Please keep in touch good or bad.

  • sbarber

Tylers grandma: Its so good to hear from you, we have all been so concerned. I can't believe he is having to wait for anything you need to call your congressman and your senator right awya that's totally uncalled for, he should have had the surgery while he was there god bless ya'll. Make those calls and if you need back up you lets us know we will make calls too. No matter what we all became a family here good days or bad it doesn't matter. Support is what this site is all about. Prayers always and thanks again for keeping us updated. P.S. I think if my son did that just showing up stuff I would hug him first kick him second ;-)

  • tks4

Tylersgrandma hang in there and fight the Navy. I was told by the Navy Dental Liason that I couldn't do anything. I am proving her wrong. Talk to people you never know who has connections. I wish I would have did that sooner for my daughter. I finally allowed a co-worker to give my daughter's info to her dad and while things are moving now. I didn't realize when she said he knew people ( I won't say where) that he could really kick things into high gear. I will keep praying for you and your grandson.

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

My SR has said they should be allowed a long phone call tomorrow, Wed, Nov 23rd. I guess for Thanksgiving. Just wanted y'all to know. That's barring any unforeseen circumstances... :o)

  • sbarber

CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360): That's wonderful, I think they should be allowed to make a really long call since they are stuck there on Thanksgiving and can't be adopted ;-( through no fault of their own. It seems really unfair to me but, who am I LOL. Hope ya'll have a great holiday.

  • paces

CoastalKat...  Thanks for the info. I was hoping for a call Sunday, but we didn't get one. I will make sure to hang around the phone tomorrow. How is he doing?

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

He was supposed to see the doctor today to read x-rays they took yesterday. Hopefully he got good news & will be moving up a phase.

  • paces

We will pray for good news. Ours was to see the dr. and have xrays last Wed. Haven't heard the results. Also, praying for good news. We should get a letter tomorrow. Yours is in Phase 2 now, right? I wasn't sure if our guys would be adopted or not. It really wasn't clear and our SR hasn't said anything. I am trying very hard not to think about him not being here on Thursday. Even though all our family will be here, it will not be the same without him. Praying for a great holiday for all.

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

I got an extremely short phone call. It was about two minutes long. He's been moved up to Phase IV & can start running again. I believe they were going to eat then come back & make phone calls.

  • paces

CoastalKat... We received a phone call as well. We got to talk for a while. They were at a recreation facility and were have dinner. He said they had pool tables and other games and were allowed to make calls. Wonderful news about moving into Phase IV. Ours moved into Phase III. He is going to have more xrays on Monday. He is able to work in the dive pool and do fast walks around the track. He has completed most of his training and is hoping to be finished before Christmas. Praying for yours. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

Got another call later. He also was able to make a few more calls to family & friends. He said he ate so much...Pizza Hut, Taco Bell & KFC! ;o)

Hope you all have a safe & happy Thanksgiving!

  • mama bear

To all the loved ones at home waiting for a call or letter from the recuit here in this area, hang in there it will get better my daughter was in there along time but now she has already graduated from A school just 8 days ago and is now on her way to her next post.  She had many stress fractures in her legs and feet and but they healed enough so she could pass her run and move on to A school.  It will get better, have faith, and hang in there.  Happy Thanksgiving!

  • paces

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I know it is kind of late in the day, but haven't had a chance to visit. I hope everyone has had a wonderful day. We are so blessed!!!

mamabear... Thank you so much for continuing to support and encourage this group. It is wonderful to have someone who has been through this to help those who are currently experiencing this difficult time. We just keep holding on to two things 1) God will not give you more than you can bear and 2) Everything happens for a reason, so be patient and listen for directions. I know you are so proud of your daughter. She is and will be an inspiration to others. We are facing the run. We just hope the leg holds out to get him through that and then maybe he will have time for it to completely heal. Do you know what her job is going to be?

  • mama bear

she is a heavy equipment operator.  Will be building roads, and such.

  • paces

mamabear...  That sounds interesting. I know she will enjoy that. Do you know where she will be going?I know you are proud.

Received a call from our SR on Wed. He sounds good. He has moved to Phase 3 and is able to do fast walks. He also has been able to go to DIVE MO(?). He said all he has left is his run so he's waiting to be cleared to go to Phase 4. He also said the RDC has been fussing at him for doing the walk too fast. He is just so ready to be done.

Many blessings have been given this year, we are most thankful for them all.

  • Phillies

My daughter is phase 2 out of 4... What exactly does that mean? She has another doctors appt. on Dec12 for a heel stress fracture.

  • paces

Phillies...So sorry to hear of her injury.  As I understand, and other Moms correct me if I am wrong, there are four phases of recovery.  Each phase lasts 2-4 weeks depending on the injury. Our son had a complete fracture of the fibula. His first phase was about 4 weeks and he was in a metal brace and crutches. He went through Phase 2 in about 1 and a half weeks. He moved into Phase 3 last week. In this phase they are letting him do fast walks around the track and time in the dive pool and physical therapy. This is time to help build him back up to speed. When he gets to Phase 4 he will begin to run and build back up his running time.  Phase 1 and 2 are the most difficult I think because they can't do much. Ours began Physical Therapy in Phase 2 as well. They will take good care of her. At least they have ours. Patience, Perseverance and lots of Prayer. Send her lots of letters and lots of encouragement. I found that in the first two phases ours was very depressed and feeling like he had let everyone down. Just make sure you let her know how proud you are of her. Information is scarce though because they don't get to call often. Our information is usually a week old.   We will keep you and her in our prayers.

  • Phillies

Thank you for clarifying that for me :) She definitely wrote that she let us down. Then she talks about something positive, then sad again. This is mentally exhausting! Thank God ,seriously, for other moms that write about their son or daughter's experience. It makes it so much more bearable.
  • paces

I have found this group to be the most comfort. Without this group I don't think I could have made it through this roller coaster ride. It is very definitely emotionally draining, not only for your SR, but your whole family. Having someone else who is experiencing the same thing makes it much easier to bear. This is an awesome group. I know I have been blessed. I write my son every day. I know that sounds like a lot, but he shared in one of his letters that just knowing he had a letter coming and getting that envelope helped his spirits.

  • sbarber

Phillies: Glad to see you found the groups I suggested for you :-) they really can be a lifeline. We have all been where you are now, stay positive and just keep reassuring her that she hasn't disappointed anyone and that she will heal and be back to training soon. A lot of our kids are long since sailors now but, we are all still connected through their experiences. Hope all goes well and she gets to call home this weekend with some good news. I know it would drive me insane waiting on that Sat. call and it wouldn't come until Sun. OMG but she will keep you posted as well as she can. When my son was in there I would tear out a few wrod searches or crosswords and send them to him in hhis daily letters it made the time go by faster for him and they never questioned the letters ;-)

  • paces

Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was very busy for us.

Coastalkat... Did you get a call this weekend?  We didn't. We did get a letter though. He hoped to move to Phase 4 this past week and finish in the next two. That would put him finishing so he could come home for a few days for Christmas. We are praying.

Phillies.. How is yours doing? Have you heard from her?

I wish for everyone a great Monday.

  • CoastalKat (Ship 09 Div 360)

Paces...no call this weekend. The RDCs have told him he can graduate from RCU. He ran his 1500 but his leg is hurting again. He might also be able to finish in two weeks.

Please keep him in your prayers to get through this, graduate & get on with his career!

  • Phillies

Hey Paces- thanks for asking! I got a 30 min call this afternoon. She sounded good. She is attending church on Sun and Wed so that made me smile. I am hoping that she will be in temp. Housing over Christmas so that we can go up to her. She is walking a little bit without crutches. Her next DRs Appt is next Monday.
  • paces

CoastalKat and Phillies... Great news to both of you. We will keep you both in our prayers.

CoastalKat... We will pray for no further injuries as well. We don't want him to push himself too much and reinjure that leg. I know this has been long and difficult. But, would rather it take a little longer and heal properly. Keeping you in our prayers.

Phillies...Will pray for continued healing and a good report from the doctor next week. It will be good to see them once we can. I do miss mine so much. It is now 3 months for us.

    Have a great Monday.

  • paces

How is everyone doing? Haven't heard from anyone in a while. Any news? No more news for us. Still praying for completion on the 16th.Haven't heard from the doctor appointment on Monday.  Prayers with you all.
