well well well.... my phone rang  WOOHOO.... my SR said that he goes back on the 5th to see how much more he has heeled up and MIGHT get out then... but im thinkin its too soon... Says he feels soooo much better!!!!

  • paces

Congratulations on the phone call.  I know that made your day.  Does he go back to the doctor on the 5th? You certainly don't want to rush it. By this phase ours was in much better spirits as well. They are given a little more flexibility and are able to get out of the RCU for a while to do some training. Let us know.  Still praying.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

yea goin back for another scan on the 5th...  i don't want him to rush it. he sounded great.. asked if he was in a special boot or crutches.. said no, just the new insole. said he hasn't seen so many people on crutches .

  • paces

That is great that he isn't in a boot or on crutches. Ours was for several weeks. They wouldn't let him do anything without someone supervising to make sure he didn't fall. Looking forward to good news on the 5th. Happy New Year.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Monchita...  hoping for phase 4for your SR.... My sr goes to see the doc tomorrow.. he's in phase 3   hoping for good news.. he called me on Sat but only got a few min to chat.... he sounds good... ready to get back at it.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

well.... no call yesterday from my SR saying he's ALL BETTER.. did get a letter saying hes READY TO GO....  getting frustrated.  he says he's been doing his stretches and physical therapy.. guess his feet just aren't quite ready... MORE healing on his heels hahhaha

  • sbarber

    barbydahlzz Ship 11 Div 039: I'm sorry you didn't get a call yesterday, unfortunately that means he wasn't moved out of RCU. They don't get to call everytime they see the doctor which stinks, we just have to wait on the scheduled calls for updates unless they are phased out of RCU in that case you get a call that day. When my son was in RCU he saw the doctor at 8am I waited all day freaking out about is he healed did they move him whats going on after 6pm I gave up hope and wouldn't you know it around 8:30 pm he called from the RDC's desk in his new Ship. It's so hard but keep in mind he's getting good care and they want him to succed and be healed. Prayer for you both and PNM {{HUGS}}

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

sbarber.... thanks for the encouragement..  i really appreciate it.. He's only been there a week and im actually hoping  he stays a little longer to make sure he's all better...I know he's being well taken care of.. oh he asked what does RCU really stand for besides RECRUIT CRIPPLED UNIT..

  • paces

barbydahlzz and monchita....Prayers are still with you and your SRs. I know it is so hard waiting and wondering. I think the not knowing was the most difficult for us. You just have to have faith that they are taking good care of them. Holding on to the no news is good news is also hard to do. Just talking with the Moms here was a big help too. If you're feeling blue, post a comment. Someone will reply.

I was told RCU was Recovery Care Unit. Don't know if that is correct, but that is what someone shared with me.

Oh, ours came home for 6 days. We had a wonderful visit. He went back today. It has been a sad day. I will say the airport was wonderful. We were checking him in and the attendants at check-in asked if we wanted a gate pass to see him off. That was such a nice gesture on their part. I didn't even know we could do that.

He is still in THU and will be for a while. I would guess at least a month or so. His leg looks good but he has a golf ball size knot on the side of it. It doesn't hurt much though he said. I am praying for continued healing. Prayers for everyone

  • Phillies

Okay momma's, I need your prayers. My SR has the chance to complete her run and do Battlestations by Friday Jan, 13.(next Friday).
  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO Phillies.... PRAYING SUPER HARD ...YAY YAY YAY...

There IS  a light at the end of the tunnel... woohoo

  • Phillies

I didn't know this but my SR said not to expect a call this Sunday :( She has been calling every Sunday since she went to RCU.  But the good news is that if I do not get a call.... then that means that she was moved to FIT and up and "running her way out of there".   I am trying not to get my hopes up..... up it would be awesome to have her complete her run and Battlestations this week!  I told her that as soon as she was in THU- we would drive up to visit her for the weekend.  I got my car a tune up yesterday - just in case ;)

  • sbarber

@Phillies: That's great news hopefully she doesn't have to go to FIT. I'm not sure why she would unless she can't finish the run in the time required and I thought they had to pass the medical PFA before leaving RCU????? If that's the case she shouldn't have to move to FIT. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that because its a whole nother beast of its own.....we all need to pray she does the run and BS21 in RCU and straight to THU :-) or better yet off to A school..

  • sbarber

@ barbydahlzz : Your so welcome thats what we are all still here for to answer questions and offer support. I was told that RCU stands for Recruit Convalesent Unit. It really doesn't matter LOL they are there and have one mission to get out there LOL.

  • paces

phillies...Congratulations.  We will pray extra prayers for her. I agree with sbarber, pray she goes straight to THU or straight to "A" school. If there are openings, she should go straight to "A" school. We will pray the call is "I'm a sailor" on the 13th.

sbarber...Thanks for the clarification. I didn't think my answer was correct.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Got a letter from my Sr. He's going back the 12th to be re-evaluated. Said he's running and jumping and docs are amazed how fast he is healing . I look forward to good news Thursday . How's everyone else's Sr holding up?
  • paces

barbydahlzz... Good news. Will be praying for another good report on the 12th. No news from ours since he returned on Friday.

  • Navy2011Mom

Barbydahlzz, that really is great news.  Hope he continues to heal quickly and get back at it.  Haven't heard from my SR since last week, so we're hoping for a letter in the mail tonight -- fingers crossed!!  The not knowing and not hearing anything about how my son is doing is so difficult (I know everyone else is going through this as well) and not actually being there to see him is tough.  Hanging in there though.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

navy2011mom....  ugh the waiting is bad.. My SR said that 30+ recruits came in all at once last saturday...  2 from his own div.(didn't say what for).. so when they came in sayin  "where's _______ at?" he was very excited to see them  hoping for good news.....   HOPING YOU GET A LETTER!!!

  • paces

Navy2011Mom... How long has yours been in RCU? Thursday was always our letter day as well. I became a mailbox stalker. I would rush home from work on Thursday to check the mail.  Praying for a letter.

barbydahlzz... that is a lot of recruits. I hate if for the recruits but I am glad for your SR because now he has someone he knows with him. That will make it some easier. I know it did for ours when a couple from his division came in.  Have you heard any news? Praying for a good report.

    Phillies...Any news?

  • Navy2011Mom

Paces...   My SR officially got there last Wed., 1/4, and said it could be up to 6 weeks delay.  Thursdays just don't come fast enough -- always hoping for that letter.  It's lucky my mailman delivers while I'm still at work or he would probably think I had a thing for him, so I think I'm a mailbox stalker too.  What about your SR?  How is he doing?

Barbydahlzz...  Yikes!  30+ on Saturday?  That's lots of injuries.  Thanks so much for your responses.  They are always so helpful and encouraging.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

no news yet... when he called me after he moved to ship 4 it was after 7pm chicago time... so, IF he calls im guessing it will be later tonite or sometime tomorrow. I KNOW once he does get to a division he will BE SLAMMED... since it will be his 5-3 day.

  • Navy2011Mom

I hope you do hear from him tonight or tomorrow.  Just knowing will mean so much!  Once he goes back, he'll do great -- especially since he probably can't wait to be done.  Wishing for the best for you, Barbydahlzz!!!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

thanks sweetie... im going crazy just sitting here watching the clock.. ugh...  he did say that(as of last saturday) 38 recruits with broken bones, 21 failed swim and 15 on final pfa/battlestations..

  • Phillies

UGH... no news. She is definitely out of RCU.   I was really hoping that she completed her run and was taking part in one of the Battle Stations this week.  Since I don't know anything... maybe she passed her run and is taking part in Battle Stations tonight :) A momma can hope :)

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

    Hoping for you Phillies///

  • paces

Navy2011Mom...Ours finished just before Christmas but he is still recuperating. He is now in THU and is classed as a SCRUFT (Screen Candidate Recruit Undergoing Fitness Training). He is spec ops and has to complete a 5 mile run the day he reports to his next assignment. He can't do that right now. He spent 2 months in RCU with a broken fibula. He is still in physical therapy and is on medical hold. He isn't out of the woods yet, but we are praying. He was able to come home on the 30th for 5 days. Haven't heard from him since he left. Hoping for a call this weekend.

Barbydahlzz...praying for you. I know the waiting is excruciating. We always received our calls around 8:00 pm. The only call we got before that time was when he went in to RCU.

Monchita...Some of them get to use their leave, but it depends on where he is going and what his assignment is. Praying he will get to come home for a few days.

Phillies...Praying for good news. It was nearly 2 weeks between the time ours found out he was going to do his PFA and Battlestations and the time we heard from him. That was really hard. She is probably just real busy.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

no call  yesterday... so many what ifs goin thru my head.... is he not ready? did he hurt himself pushing too hard? is there not a division on there 5-3 day? if he is ready does he have to wait a week for a division to hit their 5-3 day?  ugh  today was supposed to be PIR  ..

  • Navy2011Mom

Barbydahlzz...  Remember, they always say no news is good news, so try to go with that, okay?  I know you'd rather wait and have him whole and healthy before continuing, so hopefully he isn't pushing himself too hard to go back quickly.  Better safe than sorry and having a permanent injury.  Maybe you'll get the call this weekend.  I know that today will be difficult for your son (as well as mine) as their divisions graduate without them, but hopefully they can keep their spirits up.

Paces...  Thank you so much for everything.  I'm so happy you were able to see your son for leave and hope he continues to heal and can run those 5 miles -- Yikes -- being the couch potato I am 5 miles seems like an entire marathon.

LostSoul...  The waiting is DEFINITELY the hardest part and the delay in getting information.  The letter I received yesterday was from last Thursday, so the delay is difficult.  As far as calls, like you I was hoping for more, but haven't received any since the first (short) one telling me my SR was moved to 04/2341.  I'm always hoping for a weekend call that can be longer than 2 minutes.

Wishing the best for everyone's SR.   -Janet

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

hey janet.... thank you girl... yes.. i'd rather him wait and be completely healed than have a perm injury .. YES its crazy frustrating not knowing.. Seeing all the pics of PIR really made me cry but super happy at the same time..but our day will come too... so TODAY i get a letter.. well more like a note.. he has drawn his tattoo he wants..THATS WHAT HE'S BEEN DOING except having watch too.  so he sent it home.. cracked me up..

Lostsoul..... oh no....  wheres your SR's stress fracture and what div did he come from??  since my SR has been in 2341 (arrived 12/28/11) besides the call that says "im hurt" he's called only once and that was 13 days ago...the no communication sucks.. THEY LOVE LETTERS MORE in 2341.. I was soo happy to find this group when my SR moved in... or i'd be sooooooooo lost... come back often... hugs

....  these poor kids and their bones...   sending healing prayers to all our SR's..

  • Phillies

    Hi my Momma friend's  :)

A little up date on my SR.  She is now in FIT.  She still has a stress fracture in the arch of her right foot but is pushing through the pain.  She could not understand why she was dizzy or short of breathe when she did her run.  She was tested for low iron.  Low for a woman is 12.  Hers is 4.  So they put her on LLD for 10 days.  That is to allow the pills to get into her body.  She will be reevaluated next Friday.  She is excited to start feeling better with the iron pills in her.  Soo.... maybe January 27th she can be moved to TH and we can see her for the weekend.  Never a dull moment.  She did say she is going to get Baptized at GL :)  Now that she is out of RCU she does not get to call on Sunday's..... I miss that

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Phillies..... HOOYAH   FIT.... Progress...  wow  that is really low on her iron... She's gonna feel like a new woman in a few days...wow.. you got all kinds of good news!!!  moving to FIT. THU soon..gonna feel better..GETTING BAPTIZED.. AWE-SOME!!!!!!   so happy for you momma!!!!

  • Navy2011Mom

Congratulations on the good news Phillies!!!!  She will be finished before you know it.  So happy to hear she is doing better and that you might have the opportunity to see her soon.  Best wishes for her continued improvement.

  • paces

Phillies... Congatulations!!! So happy for you and her. I'm excited just hearing the news myself so I know you are bouncing. It is so good to hear about them getting better. You know, your SRs become all of ours once they're here.

Lost soul... Welcome, so sorry to hear about your SR. Phone calls don't come very often. They are supposed to be able to call every Sunday, but that doesn't always happen. We did get a letter every Thursday like clock work, but the calls were more like every other week or every two weeks. They are longer calls between 30 min and an hour when they do come though. Just hold on to the "no news is good news". If something happens, they will call.

Navy2011Mom...Anytime. I still come here because I feel connected to these SRs. I also hope that I can be of help to you and others who find themselves here. I also found that helping others, helps me. Thank you for the prayers for my  now "sailor" .  It was such a relief when he finished, but that relief was short lived as he progressed to the next level. It all starts again. It has truly been a roller coaster ride.  It is just so much easier with wonderful Moms like you to ride with.

barbydahlzz..Ditto to Janet. Keep your faith and chin up. It will all work out. Remember, they are taking good care of him. So glad you got a letter! I am sure that lifted your spirits. Nothing takes the place of that phone call though. Lots of prayers are coming your way.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

hey moms... GOT A FAT LETTER TODAY...  :-)  it was written mon/tues   he said if he did get the ALL CLEAR on thursday he'd be put in PHASE 4 for one week then move to a division.....well didn't get the ALL CLEAR ... so PIR.. 2/3 or 2/10  but he said something about 2/17 so i really don't know...AND NO CLUE WHAT I DID TO MAKE MY FONT SO LARGE...

  • paces

barbydahlzz...Congratulations!!! Will be praying for him.

  • Navy2011Mom

Barbydahlzz...   Great to hear!  Hopefully he will get into Phase 4 and be out of there soon!  Can't wait to hear...

lostsoul....  oh dear god... im sooooo sorry... was anyone living in the house?? did it burn down to the ground? who can take care of things while he's gone? do you know how it happened??  Whats his rate going to be after boot and school? i don't think there is going to be any GOOD time to tell him. praying for you and your SR..

  • Navy2011Mom

LostSoul...   I'm so sorry to hear about this.  Your poor son...   Him getting well is key.  You know him better than anyone and, of course, have to make the decision on when to tell him.  I agree with Barbydahlzz that there probably isn't any good time, but whatever you decide will be the right time.  I'm so sorry!!!  Praying for both of you during this difficult time.

  • Navy2011Mom

LostSoul...   I told my husband about this and his take was that its possible being in boot camp saved your son's life.  Try to see the bright side (if there is any) in that he wasn't in the house when it burned down.  I think men may see things differently than us sometimes.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

navy2011.... ur hubby is a smart man.... (don't tell him that tho) LOL..

UGH... got a letter.. I swear they keep saying NEXT WEEK NEXT WEEK... my SR has to be able to walk 12 laps tomorrow... which from the way he sounds should be ok... THEN an xray this friday...the phase 4 for a week... i thought he was ALREADY at phase 4..  he's getting frustrated or going crazy..Im going crazy too...

  • Navy2011Mom

The waiting really is the most difficult thing.  Also, the delay in when something happens with them and how long it takes to find out through the mail.  It seems like when I get a letter, it's already been a week since whatever was happening happened.

Will walking laps be the next milestone for your SR, Barbydahlzz?  Will he have to run as well?  Hoping all is well with his x-ray and everything else.  I think we're all at the crazy place together -- thankfully!!

  • paces

Lostsoul...I am so sorry.  I know trying to decide when to tell him is a difficult thing. I know you feel an obligation to tell him right away, but try to take a moment to consider his mindset with his injury and setback with boot camp. I agree with Navy2011Mom, you know him better than anyone, but there is nothing he can do until he gets out of boot camp, except worry. I will be praying extra prayers for your SR and your family.

Navy2011Mom... You have a very wise husband. You are blessed.

barbydahlzz...Will be praying for your SR and you. I know the waiting is hard, but you definitely want him to get well. Patience is hard when you are in this situation.

  • Phillies

This is definitely the site for only the strong. My SR love music. I just sent her the lyrics to Jo Dee Mesino " Bring on the Rain". It seems appropriate for everyone on here too. Prayers continue.
  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

awe phillies.... awesome..... My SR is dying without HIS music.. and whats even funnier is when he DOES get to hear some...its ususally something he cant stand..he writes and says OMG HAD TO LISTEN TO USHER...i just laugh.. i say back to him  AT LEAST YOU GET TO HEAR MUSIC QUIT WHINING. lol

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Lostsoul.... THANK GOD Grandma and the doggie are ok.  Sounds like an angel woke her up..  Glad you got to talk with the chaplain at red cross..  Your SR will be ok especially since he got to talk with grandma...he will heal up and move on and finish boot.......  Im sorry you feel bad..its normal... you are so far away from your SR's house and from your SR. It will get better... Praying for speedy recovery .... and praying for you too HUGS

  • Navy2011Mom

LostSoul...   I'm so glad that you were able to call the Red Cross as a family and didn't have to do it all by yourself.  Your son sounds like a young man that has his head on straight.  Worried about Grandma and the dog, but not stuff.  It seems like maybe these SRs really figure out what is important and it's not things as much as people.  You've (obviously) raised a fine son!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

    perfectly said Navy2011mom

  • paces

Lostsoul... Although it doesn't feel like it now, you have been so blessed. Grandma and dog are safe and so is your SR. Being able to have the chaplains sit down with your son is also such a blessing. They will check on him as well. Navy2011Mom...well said. We will continue to pray for your SR and your family. Just remember..."These times too will pass". HUGS and PRAYERS

  • Navy2011Mom

Okay everyone.... It's Thursday, so I'm hoping for a letter in the mail tonight.  Keeping my fingers crossed...
