SharonW.... sent you a friend request.... go accept it!!

  • Patrick's Mom

Hi ladies.  Haven't been on here in a few days so was delighted to log on to see Phillies now has a Sailor!  Congratulations Phillies!  So happy for you and your girl!

My son has told me that they have the opportunity to advance in their training even though they are in RCU.  In order to do this they must have good behavior, and stay on track.  Once well enough, they might be put in a division for the day to do Firefighting, Gas Chamber or Battlestations.  If they do this, it's my understanding they may graduate without an actual PIR.  My son says he would be fine with that because it would get him out and on to A school sooner.  It really is a waiting game with our children in RCU, and we don't know until things happen many times which way they are going to go.  Praying lots of prayers for healing for all our SR's and lots of prayers for patience for us Moms & Dads while we wait...

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

I don't quite understand when RTC said they HAVE to complete whatever time they have left. I told my Sr he would regret not going thru PIR and so would I
  • Patrick's Mom

I think the way they look at it is that their "time" is well being made up during their RCU stay, if they are doing everything they are asked to do (good behavior) and further progressing while there.  Certain other things like those I mentioned in my previous post, they must do with a division.  Initially the thought that my son might not participate in an actual PIR made me sad, but once I knew he was fine with it, I was fine with it too.  My son will be going on to sub school, and I feel I may need to refocus and plan on looking forward to a graduation from there.

  • Navy2011Mom

We got a letter in the mail last night from or SR saying almost EXACTLY what you said, Patrick's Mom, about advancing in training while in the RCU and then just passing the Final PFA and BattleStations, but not participating in an actual PIR.  I sent a letter off this morning telling him that whatever he does with that is fine with us and we're behind him on his decision, but that we want to be able to see him as soon as possible, of course.  So, whether it's while he's at RTC or at A-School is okay with us too as long as he is okay with it.  I just want to see him so badly.  I understand they'll get liberty once at A-School, so maybe we'd be able to spend more time with him there.  I just don't know.  As always, just waiting to hear the next thing...

Navy2011Mom, I'm glad you received a letter from your son - it's like receiving a pot of gold, isn't it?  It certainly is encouraging to know that even while "laid up" so to speak, they can progress in their training.  That definitely is a gift I didn't expect and am very thankful for!  I know the waiting game is very difficult - I'm really learning patience at a new level!  But...if they don't have a PIR, perhaps it may afford us a bit more time with them before leaving RTC and starting A school, who knows?  One certainly can hope and pray for that!

Barb - I know the thought of no PIR can be very disappointing, (especially when that's the day we've been looking forward to since they left), but if it gets them out of there sooner, and they are truly okay with it, you will have another graduation to look forward to eventually from A school.  Praying God will comfort your heart if that is the case for your SR.

  • Navy2011Mom

I think that after being in RCU for so long (my SR was initially set to graduate on Dec. 29th, so he really has been at RTC for what seems like FOREVER), they just must get to the point where they just want to be finished.  I know my SR is excited to move on to A-School.  He calls RTC "this evil place" now, so I'm sure he is just wanting to move on as quickly as possible.  His 2 month boot camp experience has now already been a full 3 months, and he is still in Phase 3 of RCU, so he could still be there several more weeks.  I guess we'll just have to see what happens ultimately.

  • SharonW

I received  a letter from my SR today.  He sounds pretty good, bummed he has to be there for several more weeks, asked for a book as they are allowed to read (though only those titles from a list) and continues with his physical therapy.

It is interesting that our SR's all wrote about advancing while in the RCU though he hasn't written anything about doing PIR or not - yet.

Prayers will be said tonight for all our SR's.

  • Tsghart

Well it doesnt seem there is a very big support group for our injured SR's. I just received the dreadful call that my son moved to ship 04. He fx his wrisy falling on some stairs. He is having an MRI Thurs and I have no idea when I ll hear about the results. UGH! Frustrated and worried!
  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Tsghart... ugh sooo sorry about your SR.. he will write to you when he finds out anything...

Lostsoul...i know what it feels like to have your PIR date...come and go while you sit here and wait... my SR's date was 1/13  .. he was bummed that day  couple days after that date he ran into some of his old shipmates while they were waiting to ship out and they all were sooo happy to see eachother.. my SR said it was bittersweet..

Sharon... my SR said they get to read... he said HE MIGHT read a book... then said "YUP ive lost my mind:" not much of a reader hahahahahha

hoping for mailboxes full of mail and MAYBE a phone call this weekend.. ITS BEEN A MONTH since i've heard from my SR...

  • SharonW

    Good morning to all,

Welcome aboard, Tsghart.  LostSoul is right - we understand what you are going through and are here to share our experiences and hope with one another.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's injury.  My son has been in the RCU for two weeks now due to two stress fractures in his lower legs.  I asked family & friends to take a moment to send a note or card to our son to let him know that people care about him, are praying for him and wish him well.  I try to send a card or letter daily. We are certainly doing our part to keep the US Post Office in business!

The lack of information is frustrating - I am sloooowly learning patience. And yes, a phone call would be wonderful.

  • Navy2011Mom

Tsghart...   Sorry to hear about your SR, but glad you've found us here.  This site and everyone here really are a source of comfort for me.  It's nice to know that you're not alone in the waiting and wondering about what your injured SR is going through.  The women here really do help each other through the set-backs and it is truly a wonderful thing.  We are definitely in this together.  Hugs!!!

  • Patrick's Mom

Tsghart, so sorry to hear of your son's injury and his setback to RCU.  As many have already said, we've all been where you're sitting right now after getting that phone call.  I hope you read through some of these most recent posts to see that there is a way that your son can advance in training even though he's in the RCU.  Sooooo, all is not lost.  One thing I can tell you to encourage you, is something that was also shared with me early on.  Our boys will get the BEST MEDICAL CARE possible in the Navy.  They want them well and healed just as much as we do, and will do everything to make sure that's exactly where they are headed.  I know the waiting is very hard, and I'll be praying for you to receive a phone call after the MRI results!  Hang in there, and hang around here.  We're all here to help and support each other in a way that in my opinion, no one else really can.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

MAILCALL!!!!  i love my mailman...  SR said (written over the weekend) that he was being put on the 800 meter run on Monday (2 days ago) and the 1.5 mile on wednesday (today) then doc told him that on thursday.. you MIGHT be FFD  .....oooooooooo its getting CLOSER......

  • Navy2011Mom

  • Navy2011Mom

Wow...  just realized I used the word "news" three times in my last post.  What an bonehead I am.

  • SharonW

Barbydahlzz - How wonderful for your SR and you!  Thanks for sharing the great news with us.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

  • Tsghart

Thank you ladies! Let the sitting and waiting continue :l I will keep ya posted.
  • Navy2011Mom

We ended up getting a big package in the mail from our SR that had his division photos.  Wow!!  Just getting to see him in his uniform really is a treat (not as good as seeing him in person would be, of course, but definitely a good thing.)  They were taken in December before he went to RCU, but getting this sure was exciting last night. Now all we need is news that he's moved into the next phase.

  • Tsghart

Was ae to have an actual conversation with my SR. I misunderstood and MRI is next Thurs. So we wait..... He sounded ok so that wad good
  • Navy2011Mom

Monchita...  CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  How wonderful to get that "I'm a Sailor" phone call.  I'm so excited for you.  I'm sure it was a complete weight off your shoulders to know your SR has made it.  Congratulations again!

Barby, great to hear your news.  You'll be getting that "I'm a Sailor" call too before you know it.  Congrats to you!!

  • Patrick's Mom

Has anyone heard from their child if the "lockdown" has been lifted?

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Not sure.. from that last letter i got.. (dated last wed) they were up late because someone pissed off the chief... had no call over the weekend.. my SR hasnt called home since 12/31/11 .. so from the way it sounds... someone or a few of them are REALLY MAKING IT HARD on us moms!!!!

  • Peejay

I received a long call yesterday: my SR has been in 2341 for 2 weeks with multiple tibia stress fractures.  Until the call I had no idea even where the fractures were only that he was not graduating on 2/03.  He said the lock up is lifted and they can now receive small packages.  He asked for books and candy.  He sounded good, has a goal to be on the plane to Nuke school Mar 3 and will follow the doctors orders so that he can let the fractures heal.

  • SharonW

No call this weekend and no letter yet this week from my SR.

Peejay, my SR is a Nuke also and in RCU for 3 weeks for two stress fractures in his legs.  I sent a friend request to you.

  • Patrick's Mom

Thanks for the info ladies.  Soooooooooooooooo happy to hear the lockdown has been lifted.  Praying in time they'll be given a phone call privilege, and soon!

Hearing that there are recruits in the RCU that are not getting with the program and behaving is VERY distressing.  Our boys are already dealing with so much just having to be there to heal, the last thing they need is for others to make it harder for them!!!  I can't imagine what in the world these troublemakers are thinking!!!  Praying for them is the best I know to do.

Peejay, so glad you got a call!  You said your son asked for candy.  I didn't think we were allowed to send them anything like that.  Does anyone know?  I'm sure my son would LOVE to receive candy, but if it's prohibited that's just one more thing that could get them all in trouble.

  • Navy2011Mom

Oh, LostSoul...  Keep sending the encouraging cards.  I'm sure they all are going through the highs and lows that come from being so disconnected from family, and being injured on top of it all.

I have sent my son 3 books -- without a list.  The first book he asked for when he phoned to tell us he would be in RCU back in early January (he asked for the 4th book in the Eragon series, "Inheritance"), then sent a letter asking for the 1st book in another series ("Name of the Wind"), and I found another book I thought he might like ("Game of Thrones..." -- can't remember the rest of the name.)  He sent a letter saying that he had finished the 1st two books and had lent them out to some other SRs.  I would probably go ahead and send a book you know he would like if I were you and that would probably pick him up some.  Hugs!!!

  • Patrick's Mom

    LostSoul,

I'm so sorry you received such a difficult letter, and your son is so down.  I'm praying he will be lifted up by some of the recruits around him who are feeling stronger and more positive at the moment.  (They all go through these down days).  I also sent my son a book, and know nothing of an "approved list" other than hearing there supposedly is one.  I sent my son a Christian book entitled Wild at Heart about discovering the secrets to a man's soul.  I'm with Navy2011Mom.  Send him something you think he would like to read.

Will keep you as well as your son in my prayers.  I know it's so hard to have them in RCU especially when they're feeling so down.  May God lift him UP!

  • Peejay

The reading list is mystery to me but I sent two books my son requested, 1776 and a book on Admiral Raphael Semmes, A Confederate raider. Tonight I packed up the Halo books since my SR said other SR's wanted to read them.  And I did add cookies and chocolate figuring if he never saw it, at least the RDC's would enjoy it. My SR did say the day before his call someone had gotten a book on the stock market and several were very interested in it.  He also said one SR had gotten a package with food stuffs and the RDC were rationing it out daily to him.  He didn't mention anyone getting in trouble for receiving a package.

Lost Soul, here is hoping your SRs spirits are lifted soon now that the Div seems to have some freedom. Being able to go to the library or the NEX has certainly improved my SR's spirits.

  • Patrick's Mom

LostSoul - you mentioned a fire???  Where and when did this happen???!!!

Ladies, I love your hearts in wanting to send your SR's candy, cookies, (I'd absolutely love to too), but must admit I am worried about the possible consequences to our SR's.  If you hear from the Chaplain's office LostSoul, could you kindly ask him if these things are permitted?  Thanks so much!

  • SharonW

    Good morning Ladies,

LostSoul, it brought tears to my eyes to read your post about the letter from your SR.  I pray for all the SRs to heal, persevere and help one another.

Friday, Feb. 10, was to be my SR's PIR until his 'relocation' to the RCU.  It is a tremendous blessing to have this group who understands and shares their experiences and hope with one another.

I received the Priority mail envelope I sent my son last week with letters and cards he's received.  Of course, I'm looking for a letter for us and all I find is a piece of paper with 'Will write soon' on it.  Gotta love that kid!  I know he is busy and working towards the goal of healing, finishing boot camp and heading to Nuke school which is most important.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

LOSTSOUL...  oh my ... I cried after i read your post...im praying that he heals and moves forward...

i haven't heard from my sr about mailing him books or goodies... maybe because he's sooo close to getting out of there..

ugh i just wish i'd hear SOMETHING from him

  • Patrick's Mom

    Dear Heavenly Father,

We Moms come before you with very heavy hearts today.  We miss our sons so very much, and are very concerned about their well being and their healing bodies. Please bring your healing hand over each of them and lighten their hearts if they are heavy today.  Help them to lift each other up as you lift each of them up.  We pray for a phone call this weekend from our boys, which I believe they may need just as much as we do.  We thank you for keeping them all in your tender care, and holding them in your everlasting arms when we are unable to.  Please be with each of them and bless them as they recover from their injuries.  May you heal them in every way it is needed, physically, spiritually and emotionally.  Thank you Father for upholding us Moms too through this difficult time.  In Jesus' precious name we pray.

  • Tsghart

    Amen.....

  • SharonW

Barb, I had goosebumps reading your post.  Congratulations to your SR and you. It is so wonderful to have such great news to share. It lets us know that one day we will be the ones writing such a post.  Hooray!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

you all will be writing the same post soon....    (sucked it took a WEEK to find out..)

  • Navy2011Mom

Barbydahlzz...  Congratulations!!!  I'm thrilled for you to finally get the fantastic news!!!   It has certainly been a long time coming, since he has been there since late December.  Great to hear!!

LostSoul...  be sure to let us know what you hear from the Chaplain.  I just can't stop thinking about your poor SR.  I know that he didn't seem too worried at first after the fire (mostly worried about Grandma and the dog), but he is probably having the most difficult time of any of the SRs with that fact hanging over his head as well as being injured.  Praying for you both and all our SRs.
