LostSoul...  Oh, honey!!  I'm so so sorry that you're having to go through this in the way you are.  Be strong, we're all here for you!!!

If I had to answer the can I come home question, I guess I would probably go with the "of course, you can come home anytime -- you'll always have a home with me, BUT (big but here) you started this Navy thing and it is a wonderful opportunity for you.  I would hate to see you quit and then regret it the rest of your life.  You would always be wondering -- what if I had finished."  Of course, his plight is more difficult for the fire and everything else, but maybe he just needs to know he has somewhere to go when all is said and done.  You're right, M&Ms might not fix it, but chocolate is always a good start (at least I always think that.)  Praying you get the call sometime tonight or tomorrow morning.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

oh honey...  your not a downer... your frustrated ...   i think its been said before..but there will be down days and up days.. He WILL be ok..just to get over this hump.... and chocolate wouldn't hurt...  sending prayers to you to sweetie

  • SharonW

LostSoul, my heart aches for you and your SR.  This is an incredibly challenging time for both of you.  We are here to listen and support you. I saw this quote on Facebook earlier today:

"Only God can turn a mess into a message, a test into a testimony, a trial into a triumph, a victim into a victory."

Many prayers and positive thoughts go out to you, him and all our SRs and the moms.

  • Patrick's Mom

LostSoul,  Just want you to know I'm praying for you and your SR this morning.  As others have said, please take comfort in knowing we are here for you WHATEVER you are feeling.  May the Lord bless and comfort you and your SR today.

Here's hoping and praying for a division wide phone privilege this weekend!!!

And Barby...I really wish they would allow phone calls, especially under your son's circumstances of being released from RCU back to a Division.  I guess they just don't realize how hard it is on the SR's families while in RCU without any updates as to our children's progress.  = (

  • Patrick's Mom

Oh, and Sharon, LOVE the quote!!!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

good morning ladies.....   hows everyone doing ...

Patricks mom... no kidding... that week i think was the worst so far...

and hoping for phone calls for all of you this weekend!!!!  YAY

OH my SR did say 2 other SR's went with him from RCU to his new div. i wonder who there were... and WHERE ARE THEIR MOMS...

  • Patrick's Mom

Barby, question for you.  I know you said your SR arrived in the RCU sometime in December.  Just wondering how many weeks he actually was there in total.  I know each of our SR's healing rates may be different, but just curious.  They told my son 6-8 weeks for his stress fractures, and of course I'm hoping for healing in the least amount of time as I'm sure everyone else is too!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

5 weeks exactly.... his fractures were in both heels...  yea each SR is different...  how long has your SR been there now and when did he last go see the doc??

  • Patrick's Mom

He's been there since 1/18 which made 3 weeks yesterday.  He has multiple stress fractures though...3 in one leg and 2 in the other.  Unfortunately your guess is as good as mine when he last saw the doc!  I'm hoping for a letter today (they usually arrive on Thursdays), so hopefully I'll know a bit more once I get home from work if there's a letter in my mailbox!

So happy your SR is out of RCU and onto the business of finishing Boot!!!!

  • Patrick's Mom

    LostSoul,

I'm so sorry that the news you received via phone call is so sad, however, I believe if the Lord is allowing your son to come home, it is truly part of His plan for him.  The following scripture from Jeremiah 29:11 immediately comes to my mind:   "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."  I'm praying for the Lord to reveal his perfect plan to your son - one that there's no doubt in my mind will be OUTSTANDING.  I'm sure what he's been through during his time in the Navy will help him in every aspect of his life, and I pray he will be blessed many times over for all he's been through.  One day you and he will look back and this painful time will all be a distant memory.  The Lord has great things in store for your boy - I'm certain of it!  May God bless you and guide you as you help your son through this transition.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Lostsoul....  wow...God has a plan for him.. don't know what it is... but sounds like its not in the Navy at this time.. and thats ok.. praying for him and you ... May god bless you .....  and to your SR... Fair winds and following seas!!

  • Patrick's Mom

My husband just got home from work and called me at my work to let me know I have mail from my son.  So anxious to get home to see how he is healing and doing.

  • SharonW

LostSoul, Oh my goodness my heart aches for you.  I can only imagine the roller coaster of emotions you must be going through at this time.  I will pray for you and him for an acceptance of what has happened and a fabulous future.  Please let us know how it is going for the both of you.  We care about you and are here for you.

  • Navy2011Mom

LostSoul...   You know that you and your SR have had to go through more than most of the rest of us and our SRs.  I'm certain that the plan God has for his future will be amazing...   it always is.  Wishing you both the best and hoping he will be home with you soon and healed in body and soul.  Take care of yourself and keep in touch!

I'm finding it difficult to share good news when one of our own is hurting so.  Please forgive me LostSoul if my sharing hurts you. I'm so sorry.

My son has been moved into Phase 3 which seems ahead of schedule to me, so that made me very happy to hear.  The doctor expects him to be out of there around week 4!  He's hoping to participate in Battlestations on 2/22 which he says lines up perfectly with the way his PT is going.  If all goes well and he passes, he will then be moved to THU (Temporary Holding Unit) while he awaits his orders for sub school.  He'll probably be there a few days, and we would be allowed to come visit.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that of course this is all a "maybe", and we won't know for sure when Battlestations will be until it happens.  Then obviously he needs to pass it.  To make airline reservations right before we would go out there, most likely will result in skyhigh fares which could be prohibitive.  Oh well, I'm certainly glad and blessed to know what is going on and that his healing is going so well, but as seems quite typical with Navy life so far, we'll just have to wait and see!!!

Oh, and btw Barby, Patrick did mention your son getting "FFD a few days ago and got out of here"!  And Sharon, he does know your son too.  Navy2011Mom, I just asked him in my last letter about knowing your son, so he hasn't gotten back to me on that quite yet.

Patrick did say they were supposed to get phone calls last weekend which obviously didn't happen. Sooooo, continuing to pray for that coveted phone call this weekend, and good news for all.

  • Navy2011Mom

Patrick's Mom...  Great to hear your news.  We all need good news anytime we can get it.

  • SharonW

Patrick's Mom, Great news for your son! Thanks for sharing his progress with us.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

patricks mom .... AWESOME... now time for his physical therapy to really kick in..HOOYAH....my SR has mentioned your son and a couple others.. YAY..hoping you get a phone call... I think the next call i get will be "IM A SAILOR" and thats atleast 2 weeks away...     CONGRATS MOMMA

  • Navy2011Mom

Well, we got good news in the mail last night too.  Our SR has (finally) moved into Phase 4 -- Yipee!!  He did mention that he's sore from running -- of course, that has me worried all over again (I always have more questions -- is he sore from shin splints again, or is his body just sore from not having run for so many weeks, or what?)  He said they are all "out of the box" now and things are getting better for everyone.  He said that they should get a phone call soon, so hopefully that will happen for all of us this weekend.

  • tks4

Yes it can take this long and longer. My daughter has been in seperations for months. She just got her results today. She went to bootcamp march 22nd and was injuried by the dentist there on april 13th. She is still not home.

  • tks4

angiesailorsmom- I tried to leave a comment on your page. Just got word that my husband is back in ICU so I am heading back to the hospital.

  • Navy2011Mom

Hi tks4...  Your daughter has been in separations since April 13th of 2011?  So for about 10 months?

  • tks4

No she has been at bootcamp since March 22nd. Had her nerve cut on April 13th. Had surgery in June and maybe seperations in August or Sept. She was in Fit for awhile because she only had a few days to finish boot camp but was not healing or released from her doctor and lost too much weight to do anything.

  • tks4

Sorry I dont think she made it to Fit . She stayed in RCU until decision to seperate.

  • Navy2011Mom

tks4...   I had no idea that SRs could be in RCU for that long.  Wow!!  I just can't seem to get my mind around it.  I'm so sorry for your SR.  I hope she will be home with you soon.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

that is just tooooooo freakin long...its time to go home ...  hugs to you

  • Peejay

Just as the mail arrived with a letter, the phone rang.  My SR received 4 letters and two boxes from me yesterday so the books all went through along with most of the candy and the cookies..  The RDC kept some but passed on most to share.  My SR is now in phase 4 and hoping for Battle Stations the week of Feb 27th.  He has opted not to PIR, thinking that if he has Battle Stations early in the week, he can go to THU and have free time before he leaves Saturday for Nuke school.  So we may get to use those tickets to see him for a day before he goes to Goose Creek.  He said since they have been "let out of the box" morale has improved, about 30 SR went back to Divs and several people did leave for separation.  It was so good to hear him positive about moving forward.

  • SharonW

No letter today but we got a phone call also!  It was so wonderful to hear his voice and have a 30 minute call with him.  He even took time to call his sister!  He was moved to phase 3 about 2 weeks ago and is progressing nicely.  Next medical appointment is this Wednesday.  He is walking laps, has some tightness in his muscles when walking though no pain, and is doing the other physical therapy etc he's required to do.

He said he will return to a division once he's declared fit for duty (FFD) as he was week 3 day 5 when he was transferred to RCU.  So hopefully, we will get to attend a PIR sometime in March.

My husband and I heard a new level of maturity in his voice.  He said his spirits are good and is doing what he can to move forward as Peejay's son mentioned to her.

I hope everyone gets a phone call from their SR this weekend.

  • Patrick's Mom

So happy to hear such great news ladies!!!  I have some to share too!  We're out of town for the weekend, but my ex-husband called to say he got a phone call from our son, and they got to talk for about 40 minutes!  It was so nice for them because he got to talk to his step-mother and 7 year old sister too.  His Dad said he was planning to call me next, but their phone calls got cut short.  He told his Dad to call me and fill me in on everything which he did.  First of all, he's been cleared for Phase 4 - YAY!!!  He's also hoping to do Battlestations the last week of the month, so I'm guessing our boys will do this together Peejay.  He also still needs to do gas chamber and firefighting which he'll do with a division before Battlestations.  Then the story is pretty much the same as Peejays.  He's opted not to PIR as he's really itchy to go on to A school.  He'll go to THU and possibly be there a few days so that we can visit before he leaves for sub school in Connecticut.  His Dad said he sounds very positive and very strong - I feel so happy and blessed hearing that!!!  It's so nice to have such good news around here right now.  It's been a tough road for our boys, and it's wonderful to hear that they are pulling through and making the best of it.  This experience has certainly made men out of them.  Praise God for working in their lives through the toughest of times.

OMG YOU GUYS... This has been an awesome weekend with PHONECALLS... soooo happy for your SR's and moving forward ...  and soon your phones will ring again with IM A SAILOR... just realized something..my SR will do battlestations with his new div at the end of Feb ...IT WOULD BE SOOOO COOL if your sr's go in with DIV 75!!!!!!  it would make his day and Im sure your SR's too since they would have 3 guys they know.. (2 other sr's from 2341 went with my SR..   YAY....  i have 19 days till PIR

  • Patrick's Mom

Oh Barby, that WOULD be so cool!!!  We'll have to wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds...but I agree I'm sure the boys would enjoy having others they know to do Battlestations with, since of course they are not with their original divisions where they knew everyone!  Thanks for sharing in our joy!!!  It's been a GOOD weekend!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

hoping it works out this way.....

  • Tsghart

I received a phone call as well, it was so good to hear his voice. He sounded so positive compared to the letter I received last week. He is going to see a surgeon tomorrow for his wrist. He is now in a long arm cast for the next 12 weeks. He was already having difficulty taking showers with 86 other "dudes" and now they get to dress him too. He looks forward to chapel on Sunday, even though he hasnt always been spiritual ,hes finding it therapeutic. Please inbox me some of your Sr's names, he keeps asking whos on navy moms and idk???? Thanks again for all your support _it's gonna be a long 5 mos.
  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

so glad that he called home...   ugh sorry he's in a long cast...  prayers for a good report from the surgeon...

  • Patrick's Mom

Tsghart, I'm so glad you got a call from your son too, but very sorry to hear of his long arm cast and 12 week recovery period.  Praying somehow the Lord will lessen that recovery time needed to fully heal.  Glad to hear he goes to chapel on Sundays.  My son does too, and I believe has also found that to be a great help in getting through these tough days.  Praying my son is one of those helping your boy get dressed.  How hard that has to be for him.  Hang in there Mom - all this is strengthening your boy into what I believe will be a pretty incredible man!

  • Navy2011Mom

We received a phone call this weekend too.  Hearing his voice was such a relief (as you all know.)  However, the news from our SR wasn't as good as everyone elses.  Our son had moved into Phase 4 in his letter last week.  Unfortunately, he then had another stress fracture develop in his other leg.  He is back to Phase 2 with the new fracture and will remain in RCU for another 6 weeks.

BTW, Patrick's Mom, my son mentioned that he does know your son.

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

navymom2011.... OH NOOOOOOO.... ugh... Im soooo sorry hun,  he must be sooo bummed...  sending healing prayers to your SR....hang in there momma...still here for you.

  • Navy2011Mom

Thanks so much Barby...  you're really a terrific person!

  • SharonW

What sad news, Navy2011Mom!  Poor guy.  I will keep him and you in my prayers.

  • Navy2011Mom

Thanks so much Sharon W.  I figure we're with Tsghart's son on the long term healing program.  By the time ours is done he will have been there for well over 12 weeks, but (as we all feel, I'm sure) as long as they are ultimately healthy and okay we will make it through as well.  I really value each and every one of you here.  You are such a source of comfort and I appreciate your thoughts and prayers and hope you know how much you all mean to me.

  • Phillies

Well momma's the fun continues...even after the "Sailor Call"  My daughter is now in THU.  She was diagnosed with Anemia while in RCU so she just underwent a Colonoscopy!  So she is now waiting for the results.  If it comes back neg then she can apply for a waiver to be released.

But they did tell her that if she wanted to do a different job, then she wouldn't have to wait as long to get out of THU.  She was like Hexs no!  She really wants to be an Air Traffic Control.  So she is still there... waiting... but making the best out of it.  On the positive side... she is racking up leave days  :)

(She left home on Oct 4, 2011)

    Stay strong everyone!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

Phillies..... OH MY GOD... that poor girl Colonoscopy... I haven't even been down that road yet....She's a trooper!!!!   you go phillies sailor!!!  you also forgot another positive side...  racking up the dough too!!!  $$$ CASH MONEY  LOL

  • SharonW

Oh my, Phillies, prayers for good results from the colonoscopy.

Navy2011Mom, so sorry to hear of your son's new stress fracture.  Does he have any idea how this happened since he's been in the RCU?  Certainly praying for quick healing for him!

Phillies, so sorry to hear of your daughters added plight!  May she also receive quick healing and be on her way!!!

  • Phillies

Test results came back and all negative :) Yay! She will submit her paperwork and see what happens. Could be weeks before she is out. Oh well... At least she has contact with the outside world. That makes such a big difference.
  • Navy2011Mom

Phillies... great news!  Hopefully things will move more quickly for her now.

Patrick's Mom...  Thanks so much.  He moved into Phase 4 and started running again.  On the 2nd day of running, he developed a bump and pain on his other shin (the first shin had no pain at all.)  He went into the dr. right away and found out he had another stress fracture.  Not sure why something like that would happen after healing for 6 weeks for the other shin, but it did.  Thankfully, he seems to be okay with hanging out there for the additional time.  So, we're back to 2-3 weeks in Phase 2, then (hopefully) beyond again.  However, receiving a phone call really seemed to make all the difference to me.  I know after talking to him that he really is okay, and I guess that's all that really matters for now.  Thanks again!!

  • SharonW

Hooray for Phillies' SR and for answered prayers!

  • Barbydahlzz ALUM 09/075 USS JPJ

    Omg awesome news Phillies
  • Patrick's Mom

So happy to hear this awesome news Phillies!  Yay!

Navy2011Mom, I know exactly what you mean about talking to them and truly knowing they are okay.  You're right - that makes ALL the difference.  Not knowing how your child is doing, is the absolute worst!!!  I'm so glad to hear his attitude is what it is, and he's good with continuing to hang out and heal.  Hopefully he's got some good buddies there who make it a little easier.  Hang in there Mama!
