I sent cards to all also, hope they get them soon. Got a phone call from my girl, doing the Happy Dance, always good to hear her voice. I sent all of her group Christmas gifts, they got them today, they were all yelling Thank you..LOL. Made me smile.
I hope all the cards I sent for birthdays got there I added a venti coffee from Starbucks in there card too! just kinda worried about the mail that went over board!!
looks like Christmas items are arriving to our sailors and there divisions its so exciting to see the happy sailors:) have a great night ladies, Sherryl
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoyed their Thanksgiving. I did talk to my Sailor on Thanksgiving Eve. It was so very wonderful to hear her voice. She truly is sounding happy. An email also said they had an amazing dinner on the ship with her extended family so that so really nice to hear.
Good Morning everyone, hope you all have a good day . TGIF!!!
too tall Joan, I Love the phone calls, just a little perk of her job. I had mailed some Christmas goodies to her and her unit, they got them yesterday. They were all yelling thank you mom..made me smile, nice to Britten their day.
Pam, so Happy You Talked to your girl! Always good to hear their voice!
Good morning! Catsmom that is and awesome that you get to talk to your daughter! I live by e-mails! Receved one this morning and Suzanne my son knows your LS2! Says he is good guy!
Just got an email from the Kid. He received my Christmas package already!!!! I mailed it Nov 27 and he got it yesterday....that's pretty darned fast. Says he's on nights for awhile and is adjusting to that but say's it's "OK".
All going good.
He's not very wordy......HA.,....but says he loves me and misses me....that's plenty, I think.
Yippee! GrandmaBarb that's awesome! I sent my son another Christmas package December 3rd after reading about the "mail mishap" ! I was so excited to hear his voice on Thanksgiving Day, I can't remember if I asked if he got his Christmas package! LOL I was overwhelmed and I think he said yes,but my mind thinks I remember him saying he enjoyed the Rudolph red-nosed candies!
Good morning everyone! Yippee! I was happy dancing at 0030...got two emails from my son! He got his Christmas package! His email started with:"RELAX...I got all the packages"! LOL I wanted him to enjoy the Christmas classics dvds we watch together every year over and over!
Coach I had an e-mail conversation with my son last night! I try to write right back when he writes to see if he is still online and this time I caught him!! Spirits are good!! He says he wants to take me to breakfast and then go for a walk on the beach and tell me everything.. I can't wait for April!!! Christmas will be hard... But we will get thru it somehow...love him so much!!
So happy to hear so many are hearing from their sailors. I'm a bit wary about Christmas also but even so, it's coming too quick. I was going to spend this weekend getting ready but after an ice storm it's a skating rink on the roads. I've got cabin fever as a bonus lol.
Jody stay inside! We have snow in N CA and I have to drive down the hill to the airport. Going to "high" tea in San Diego... It is a fund raiser for our sailors on the Truman...I am dreading wearing a dress ...and ahem ... a hat for tea...in this weather..San Diego will be nice, but when I get back tonight it will be freezing here..and I hate being cold! I guess my little discomfort is worth it, cuz these ladies send lots of care packages...I have a little speech written by my son to thank them..not sure I can get thru it without choking up..
Gaisey: How did you find out about the fundraiser the the Truman? Can you share this info with the other NAVY moms in California? That would be awesome. :)
I Live in California also, would be interested in the information also. I Live halfway between LA and San Diego in South Orange County . In Laguna Hills.
GrandmaBBar, yea! So happy he got his package. That was quick. The Christmas box I sent my girl arrived in a week! Fastest yet, some of the packages have taken 2 months. , Coach Shelia that is Awesome! Gaisey try to stay warm, it is Raining now, I would guess that San Diego is getting the same weather, not that far from me, but Hop it is sunny there for you!
Sherryl, we should arrange a meet and greet for all us Cali moms and wives and girlfriends ect!
As we are decorating our tree today and seeing our Sailors special ornaments and having wonderful memories and knowing we all have a bit of emptiness and heaviness in our hearts We truly all have a special bond and connection that we all share. Sending hugs a warm holiday wishes to you all!!!
Hi ladies I am at SAN it was a fantastic tea, I don't even care that my plane home is delayed! Such a good feeling today! Mom's from S.CA, my friend in San Diego supports the troops. She is always looking to send care packages to needy sailors, soldiers or families; thru my son she and her friends adopted 6 Truman sailors for the length of the deployment, two or three military families with children for Christmas and several soldiers in Afghanistan and they supply the USO with goodies at SAN. My first time to their annual Christmas Tea fundraiser. If you want to be on their mailing list contact trudyngeorge@gmail.com. The tea is a huge success and generally books quickly in November.
Good Morning everyone, pam, it is good to have all those memories, and yes we all have that special bond. Hugs back to you, God Bless all of our Sailors and all of you on this site.
Gaisey thank you for the info, happy you had a good time. They sound like an amazing group. I will send them an email to get on the list. Safe travels home.
Went shopping for the Military families bought a lot of nice things, will drop it off today.
Hello everyone! Sending prayers to all of you to stay joyful during this time. I finally bought a digital picture frame and loaded up with pictures for my MIL when she was here for Thanksgiving!
My sailor got her birthday/christmas packages that had her birthday cake in a jar/icing, also no bake cookies, and reese christmas tree bag of chocolate. Everything arrived in tact. She said when she opened the jars of cake, it was as moist just like I had just baked the cake. The key with sending chocolate is sending this time of year when the temps are a little cooler over there
Gaisey that sounds like a wonderful group of people doing that fundraiser. Glad you enjoyed your time there
Too Tall it was a great day! Oh I am so glad your cake in the jar made it and it was moist! I sent smores in a jar to Afghanistan and chocolate cake in a jar to my son on the ship, I used lots of bubble wrap and socks! I put two 1 lb Hershy bars on two sides to make it snug. But, I am still worried about the jars breaking if thrown too hard. I can't wait to hear how they liked them.
Hello Ladies, I haven't been on here in a few days--busy at home getting decorated for Christmas. Decided to move furniture out of two rooms and clean rugs first. Anyhow got it all done yesterday finally! Had a mini meltdown when I decorated the tree yesterday. I went to put up my Truman ornaments and my little sailor ornament and sat there boo-hoo-ing about my son not being home for his 2nd Christmas in a row and feeling sorry for him and all our sons and daughters out there missing Christmas at home with their loved ones. My husband said Carol we are lucky out of 6 Christmasses he has only missed two--that's pretty good really. Anyhow, he said maybe you should just leave those ornaments off the tree if they upset you so much! Men, sometimes they just don't get it! Anyhow I am a very happy Momma today. Found an email from my son from Sat to my work email telling me he didn't wait in the long lines Thanksgiving and decided to go have beans and hot dogs instead. Said it was just as good and that no turkey is worth that kind of wait! Ha! Ha! I KNEW he would not want to wait that long! Anyhow he said he got my plg. Don't know if he meant the Christmas or Thanksgiving one, the card a lady I work with sent him, A Cheryl and Co. cookie tin from me and a care pkg my sister sent him with some Slim Jims, so he is pretty happy. Said he still hasn't received the Navy 4 Moms Christmas stocking yet....that kind of makes me mad...after all the work I put into this and all you all did too, Just hoping he gets one at least! Guess that's kind of selfish sounding on my part, but I do feel that way! Glad for those of you that are mentioning they are receiving theirs though! Pschip and Tammy Jo appreciate your comments about your sons getting cards from me. Glad they are getting to them. The least I could do. U haven't looked into the yearbook and picture thing yet but will here soon and will let you know what I do find out. Have a great day ladies and a great week. Hopefully you weren't all hammered too bad with all of these storms! Where I live in OH we got about 6 inches snow. Pretty. Glad I didn't have to go out and drive in it over the weekend though. The roads were very clear today coming into work so that was good.
Carol Ann - I guess they had to go to the hangar to get a goodie bag.. My son got one because someone brought it to him. Mine probably ate hot dogs and beans too! No way would my son wait in a long line for food! Thus the nickname 2%.
Carol Ann......I agree. My grandson would never wait in line that long. He'd grab something from a vending machine first. Heck, he'd grab a huge salad and a piece of bread and be just as happy.
The only time he has "waited" for "dinner" is if there is a bar nearby where he can enjoy a beer or two until his "name is called"....ha......
Gaisey: Thanks for letting me know that. I told my son he had to go to hanger to pick his up so hopefully he will and will get one... GrandmaB I agree! If he's in port and it involves a beer he would probably wait in line all day for that! LOL
I was going to order a Truman Christmas ornament for FRG web site and it says the page no longer exists. Does anyone know how to order or if the web site has changed?
Tammy Jo: Your son will have to contact them and let them know first off that you are o.k. to get this newsletter. I will have to try and find that address too as I've been on their list a few years now and do not know it offhand.
sandman: This was in the newsletter for Dec.: Recently the HST FRG Board made the decision to close our merchandise website. The decision was made solely for cost effectiveness. We will soon be sending out an electronic catalog with all of our merchandise items and pictures. All items may be purchased via sending the order form directly to our PO BOX address OR you can email hstfrg_fund@hstruman.net and place your order via email. Keep an eye out for the catalog!
Tammy Jo: Here's how to get a newsletter sent to you: "Join our email list by emailing hstfrg_commliaison@hstruman.net. Please have your sailor email from their CVN-75 address, and include your name, email address, sailors name, rank/rate, department, and division. Make sure to add our email to your contact list to avoid having our messages arrive in your junk or spam mail folder."
Me too dragon7- luckily I hadn't deleted the Dec newsletter from my emails yet. I thought I had read something about that and double checked and found answers to both questions.
Hi everyone ... First I hope all is well. It's been real tough the past 2 weeks... You see my my mother on law past day before thanksgiving and she was my sailors best buddy. Before he decided to serve our country, he spent so much time with her and she had such a presence as she lived with us for his entire life. I contacted the ombudsman to help me deliver the news, really hard but they were so compassionate ... I was able to speak with my son on thanksgiving and he was torn apart ... The ship did so much to help him. Today, he called again and sounded so resolved and strong ... I am so grateful for this ... Please say a little prayer for my kid
Waltzy's Mom: I am so so sorry to hear this. Feel so bad for your son too. This is the bad thing about being deployed. When someone you know and love so well has health issues and then dies and you can't be there. Would it help if we all sent him a card or email expressing our sympathy or do you think that would only make him dwell on it and make him more depressed? I am praying for your son. Hang in there Mom!
Wattzy's Mom, I am so sorry for your loss, It is always hard, and I know being that far away was even harder for your son. Praying for him, and your Family. I Lost my Mother when my Girl was in C School. it was so hard for her not being able to be with her Grandma. I will also send your son a card or email if it will not make him depressed.
I received 2 Christmas cards back that I sent to our Sailors. One was for Daniel Stout and the other for William Gutzwiller, if someone has the right address for them, I will resend them.
Catsmom, thank you so much and I can send you hits name over traditional email - does my heart good that you are willing to do that for my boy. Bless you
Has anyone heard about a mail shipment that was dropped into the ocean? I really hope these are just rumors as this would be devastating this time of year.
Hi Sarah: There was a mail shipment that was dropped in the ocean, but it was at least 4 weeks ago, maybe longer. I asked my son when he called on Friday if there had been another shipment that had gone in and he said that to his knowledge, there has only been the one that he knows of...
Wattzy's Mom praying for your strength and praying for your son. I know she's watching over you both! Stay focused, patient and positive everyone! I'm so glad to be part of this amazing group!
Wattzy's mom I can send him a card too. So sad for you and yours. Never easy.
My employer layed-off 20 people last week including my boss. She had adopted a sailor and he is corresponding with her.. He sent her a list of needed items and today she packed 4 boxes to ship to him. I said, honey you need to tell your adopted sailor you are now unemployed! She said, no way! This is the best part of the Holidays! I helped her send out a few resumes today... I will miss her compassion!
Catsmom: I also have had Daniel Stout's card returned to me twice now and have given up. I asked after the first return and was told that address was correct. something has to be wrong with it. Anybody know the correct address?
Wattzy's Mom sorry for your loss. Please send me his address and I would like to send him a card too. My mother in law passed while my daughter has been gone. She was very close to her grandma growing up and was very resentful for her choice to join the navy when she wasn't allowed to come home for the funeral. We tried to tell her that they had a mission to fulfill and she just needed to accept that and just remember all the fond memories she had with Grandma.
Gaisey that she so sweet of your ex boss to still send the package.
dragon7 I loved that video
Thankful for a 2nd snow day in a row to get some decorating done finally. And added blessing was getting a phone call from my sailor because I was home. I think I will bake cookies today since I am in a winter wonderland here in southern PA
