Thanks Ladies. Promise me you will take pictures and videos and post. I want to hear and see all about it! It is such a wonderful thing to experience and I am still half tempted to come just to see it all again!

  • Gaisey

Carol Ann we will miss you, but understand completely and we will take lots of pics and videos. Thanks for warning us about the banners. I haven't made one, yet. Actually I was thinking about letting his little 2nd cousins make the sign, so we don't have to travel with it. They all live in NJ and will be coming down to celebrate with us. 7 kids under 10.. The pics of little cousins loving on their big cousin will be precious.,, I am getting my camera ready. Sooo excited!! I am wishing the time away.

  • Sherryl

so the news is just stating they recovered the Navy helio that crashed in the sea just out of Norfolk and the body of the remaining sailor.... sorry if I wasnt suppose to post this

  • Carol Ann

Good morning ladies and welcome to our newest members cmhardison68 and candyliamsmom! You will find this to be a very good  fun-loving group of women and fall in love with them like I have! pschip and Sherryl--my son's christmas care pkg never made it with his gifts either and I think (but not sure) that a good portion of the Navy for moms stockings also are at the bottom of the sea which really bums me out as so much time and money went into these. I had so much help with this and it's a shame that had to happen. Good thing though that I mailed on two days as I believe part of them DID make it by the dates we were told they should have. Guess we just move forward and go on to the next thing and quit worrying about what's already over and done with I guess! Just sent my son his Valentine care pkg Sat and I finally got around to baking his requested pumpkin bread in a jar again. The care pkg for Christmas had that and Snickerdoodle cookies in it, which he never received. He should be happy with this one! I have one of the two boxes together for his birthday which I will be sending out soon. He will get a laugh out of that one. Put a whole bunch of squirt guns in it. Figured it was about time for a little fun at this point in deployment. Hopefully it won't lead to him getting into any trouble!

  • Carol Ann

Sheryl: So sad about those sailors in the helicopter crash who were killed/injured. I am glad they found his body though as the family will have closure.

  • Gaisey

Good morning Caro Ann! It is early out here in Cali, I am sipping my java and reading the posts from yesterday! Welcome to the newbies we do like to have fun on here, we commiserate when we are sad or missing our sailors, we share in each other's joy and we share fantasies about cabana boys, M&M's, snowballs and tiger cruises ... So welcome aboard! Carol Ann I am stealing the squirt gun idea!! That might cause some havoc but good clean fun!!
  • jbr0001-USS Harry Truman-VAQ 130

Am back!!!! I am so far behind on this site and there is too much to read..I had my knee replacement Dec 2 and I am back to work. I hope I didn't miss anything. It's good to be back. I guess my first question is does anyone know the best place to stay for homecoming? I need to get a general idea so I can map my plans out. I did read a little back comments and saw about getting banners for our sailors. Where can I order one? @onlyson- My son works the flight deck..Hope you all have a great morning...Hey is the Cabana boys still around..LOL

  • Coach Shelia

IMG_3517712629041764.jpeg Hey there jbr! Here is your welcome back pic!

  • Catsmom

Welcome back jbr! Happy to see you and all went well with your knee replacement!
    Welcome cmhardison68, and candyliamsmom!

I could use hotel info too. Somewhere close to base would be nice! And banner info, need something small to pack, as will fly in from Cali.
Well we know the fish are happy with all the goodies and cards to read..LOL
Sent out my Valentines box too.
Early day for me, off to work, have a good day everyone, and yes we still have the cabana boys, some new ones too! ..lol
  • Gaisey

I am looking at booking a rental house with plenty of room for visitors and some peace and quiet time on the beach with family. Making it a vacation as we are spending $$$ traveling across country. Rental houses in Sandbridge Beach look reasonable and on the beach. Plenty of us to share the cost as family is coming from CA and NJ! Hard to plan due to the unknowns.
  • Gaisey

Jbr I forgot to say....that is amazing that you are back to work already!!! Some people stay out for a year or more with a TKR. Hope you continue to do well!! Welcome back!!
  • Carol Ann

jbr: welcome back. You must be doing well to be back to work in about only a month after that. I need to get 'er done too on both my knees and keep dragging my heels so to speak on that. The left one is my worst one. Guess I need to take that first step and get a hold of an orthopedist and see what is involved in this...Coachsheila: See you got our head cabana boy up and moving so early in the morning! It's almost 9:30am here and snow flurrying in OH about 20 degrees. Cold!  Gaisey: Feel free to steal my squirt gun idea. Good clean fun I agree-hopefully the boys won't get into too much trouble with those! lol From what I hear it's pretty cool these days over there, but I am sure that won't stop the fun with those!

  • Gaisey

Carol Ann it is a cool 40 here this morning with high going to 68. I don't think we are going to have winter this year. Drought is upon us with fires burning in S CA. I am so lucky to work from home, I just need to move my lazy butt from the couch to the desk about 10 feet away... I may get out for some vitamin D when it warms up later.., such is the life of a remote worker in N CA. I hear the TKR operation could get you moving again without pain. I am lucky my knees have not given out. Although I am a good 50 lbs overweight, I am having problems with an ankle... Too much weight for it to bare and it gave out. Awful because I usually walk 3 miles a day. It seems to heal then I walk a mile and it gives out again. I am bracing it and wearing orthotics guess it is time to see if I tore a ligament.
  • Carol Ann

Gaisey: I am more than 50 lbs overweight myself and I know this is not helping my knees at all. They have been bad for quite a while though and I keep hobbling along putting the inevitable off. This past Winter has been awful for me though (they hurt worse in the Winter) and I am in constant pain, so it's definitely time to do something about them. They are both bone-on-bone and the left one will need to be done first as the bones actually catch when I bend and that hurts like the dickens! I used to be quite a walker myself and love the outdoors and this has really hampered me exercising hence the added weight that keeps increasing with my lack of exercise. Add a thyroid problem to that and you have a wonderful mix! Anyhow enough about me-you need to get that taken care of and looked at. I am going to call and make an appt myself and see what can be done to help...

  • pschip

    welcome to cmharidison68  & Candyliamsmom

jbr.   welcome back glad to hear all went well with your knee.  I'm also looking for a good place to stay. I order my banner and it is already here only took 2 weeks but it is a big one i'm going to hang it in my front yard going to make a small one to take  for homecoming.

    Everyone have a great day

  • pschip

Carol Ann  i  know all about that thyroid it is hard it makes losing weight all most impossible.

  • Carol Ann

pschip: I used to be thin til about almost 30, then the weight started coming on. I have been up and down since then but never completely thin. Found out about the thyroid about the age of 40 and it's been a major struggle for me since then. I can look at something and gain 5 lbs just thinking about eating it-lol! Really sucks! Summer/warm weather is waaay better for me. Swimming is my fav as i can get in a pool and move everything without pain or hardly any. Guess I need to get to an indoor pool this winter but embarrassed to be seen in a bathing suit! In summer I go to my sister's and no one sees me there....

  • GrandmaBarB

Heads up folks.  Navy moving ships around....again......

    http://www.wvec.com/news/military/USS-George-Washington-USS-Theodor...

  • Carol Ann

GrandmaBarB: Am wondering how that will affect the Truman if at all?

  • Coach Shelia

Hi GrandmaBarb! Thanks for the information. Hope you are doing well!

  • GrandmaBarB

Thanks Coach Sheila......doing OK....lots happening in geezer-world lately.....

Carol Ann....I have no idea about the Truman.  Just thought it was interesting for a heads-up for all our Moms, Grandmas and others to never count on a sure thing with the military.  The Navy will do what it needs to do when it needs to do it.

Fingers crossed all the time, heh?

  • Carol Ann

GrandmaBarB: Yep, fingers are crossed. and you are exactly right about that! You never know what the military is gonna do adn we definitely do not have any control over that!

  • DARmom

Just ordered my welcome home sign yesterday from www.buildasign.com/troops  A great site that was very easy to navigate and I could customize my sign. They have everything is a variety of sizes - banners, yard signs, hand-held signs....
