    Welcome TrumanMom94 from PA

Gaisey thanks for the link on the news.  Interesting but we all know that info. could change by next week. lol

Got an email from my daughter today and she has 7 days left of her cranking.  She is ready to be done already.

Carol Ann you keep that snow in your state.  I am heading to Morgantown, WV tomorrow to pick my Momma up and bring her home.

I just looked at the birthday list today myself and realized that I need to send mine out by tomorrow cause Monday will be an holiday.

Sherryl glad your daughter is making a move too. Hope she likes it

TrumanMom....welcome aboard.  Don't worry about not hearing from your sailor....it's tough sometimes to get computer or phone time.  In addition, they work 12-18 hour days and spend much time too pooped to pop. It's also normal for them to not have satellite connection. (Remember where they ARE...ha).

My sailor called his Mom for the FIRST time over Christmas.....boy, was she happy.  I've received 4 emails from the "Kid"....mostly to thank me for the care packages....short, sweet and wonderful.

This is a great group....lots of support....we are all in the same boat....(no pun intended).

  • GrandmaBarB

Can I have this fella for my Cabana pleasure?

  • Catsmom

Yes you can GrandmaBarB! Nice choice!
  • Gaisey

Homicide Hunter lives in San Francisco!! A stopover for pleasure on your way to Maui!!
  • pam

Oh my GrandmaBarB!!!  Now you must share!!  hahaha

  • GrandmaBarB

Catsmom, Gaisey and Pat.  I think this man is gorgeous...and I could look at him all day.  GROWL.

However, for REAL fun, I'll also bring his "boss"....whom I will not share.

Lt. Joe Kenda from Homicide Hunter/Investigation Discovery

Lt. Joe Kenda from Homicide Hunter/Investigation Discovery

Not as young, not as gorgeous but would sure share a cabana with him over some fine single malt served in diamond glasses.....for sure

  • GrandmaBarB

Gaisey....ya, I know he's in SFO.   I love looking at him...watching him in the show is pure delight.

However, as a former cougar of some reputation, I must draw the line somewhere.  I'd prop him in a corner and look at him all day.......

  • Gaisey

    GrandmaBarB you are hilarious... LMAO!!
  • pam

    GrandmaBarB,   you crack me up!!!

One of my favs is Sam Elliot love his deep sexy voice too!!!!  oh my, oh my!!!

  • GrandmaBarB

Pam.....I'm a Sam Elliott fan, to.

Now I'll share another geezer secret.....  NCIS is my favorite show...and I've watched it (and all the re-runs) for the 10 years it's been on.  It's a great show....but, I only started watching it because of Mark Harmon.

I've had a crush on him for over 30 years!!!  We've sort of grown up together.  I first saw him in the mini-series Centennial...in 1976!!!  He played a very young Union officer and BOY, was he pretty.

He's only better with age.  I keep waiting for him to catch up to me....but he's not getting any closer.

He has the best smile...and the most beautiful eyes...and, of course, he's a real looker.

He's all sappy in love with his wife, Pam Dawber, though...so I won't invite him to my cabana.  Wouldn't want to corrupt the old boy.

  • Gaisey

Mark Harmon is his own secret weapon! Ha ha he is one sexy 62-year-old man! Love those baby blues! We went to see "Her" tonight. Sorry critics .,, sex with a computer. Just didn't do it for me. I fell asleep twice!
  • Catsmom

GrandmaBarB, you make me laugh..LOL, you do have good taste in men!

Gaisey, Thanks for the heads up on the movie. I wasn't sure I wanted to see it, now I know not to. LOL
  • Sherryl

Gaisey, thanks for the movie advise i was seriously wondering about that movie! any one see lone survivor? opinion yes or no to see... have a great night ladies

  • marybutler

Good Good morning ladies expect to hear from your sailor in the next few days.

  • pam

marybutler, do you something we don't know  jk

  • pam

So sad in my heart for my Sailor her Grandfather passed away last night.  How wonderful to have the Red Cross as she was able to have a Emergency phone call to her dad last week when they knew it was just a matter of time and last night after he did pass away.   Another Sacifice being deployed and so far away.

  • marybutler

  • marybutler

Yes they will be in port tomorrow in Dubai

  • Catsmom

Pam, I am so sorry for your loss, I am praying for your Sailor and all of your family. I hope she talks to someone on the ship to help her through this. This is the hardest part of their deployment. Sending ((((((Hugs))))) to your Sailor and all of you.
  • pam

Catsmom,  thank you so very, very much!!!

  • pschip

Pam   So sorry for your loss. Your family will be in  my prayers.  Glad she was able to call home.

  • pschip

Coach Sheila  I could look at him all day  Can he could call me baby girl anytime

  • Gaisey

Pam so sorry for your loss too; I know if my mom (96y/o) passes while my son is deployed it would be very difficult for him too. Glad to hear our sailors are going to be in port so is tomorrow today??? I wonder if he is sitting in a bar watching the 49er's GO!?!
  • Coach Shelia

Dear pam, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'll be praying for you.
  • DARmom

Pam - So sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers go out to your family.

    Package Questions....

Getting ready to send out my first care package and I have a couple of questions. First, do I have to ship via postal air ?? Second, I have seen some mention a customs form. Is this something I need to fill out?? I would hope they know this stuff at the post office but wasn't sure....  Thanks all!

  • Coach Shelia

Hi Darmom! Ship using the priority mail boxes. Yes there are customs forms to fill out. You can fill the out at post office...but fill out before you get in line. They are usually very helpful and once you fill out one you'll never forget. You can look on usps.com website to get idea of how to fill out. Have fun!
  • sandman713

It's cheaper to go online and fill out your customs form and print off your mailing label.  You do no send it by air - just regular priority ground mail.  The system will direct you automatically to the customs form when it sees the FPO address

  • Gaisey

It is very easy to do everything online @USPS.com. I order my flat rate boxes & sticky little address labels, and then I pay, print and schedule pick up online. I never go into the post office. Some of us like to send "theme" packages and yes I am behind in putting together my sailor's Valentine package. He is not big on candy and I am running short on ideas... Love to hear what others are sending. Funny every time I ask my sailor (over e-mail) what are you craving he says the same thing and ... I can just imagine him saying "Cheezits" in his really deep voice.... I send a box of Cheezits in almost every package. Not sure why Cheezits but my dad loved them too. Maybe I should put a big picture of Cheezits on his homecoming banner!!
  • Gaisey

Prayers for your family too, Vicki-Brent's mom. So sorry to hear of all your losses, but good to know that our sailors are in good hands with their extended Navy family in a time if need.
  • Catsmom

Viki-Brent'sMom, I am so sorry for your loss, also praying for your Sailor and all your Family. Sending you all ((((((Hugs)))))). I am happy that others are helping your Sailor through this.
  • Coach Shelia

So sorry for your loss Vicki. Sending prayers your way! I posted two pics earlier today, check them out of two other cabana boys! Here is an idea Gaisey and everyone! ! I bought happy Valentine's gift paper and wrapped up treats with a sappy Happy Valentine's Day Son card! LOL. He loves iTunes. I seem to accumulate change in the console of my jeep...I took it to Coinstar in Wal-Mart. You can get gift card redemption codes for iTunes and other things. They don't charge you a service fee for the printout. It's first time I've done, but I sent it with the Valentine's card. You can't imagine how much change was in there!
  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

DARmom - Make sure you put your stuff in a Flat Rate box, it's much cheaper & if you use a large flat rate box you get $2.00 off for sending it military.  Also when you fill out the form check the box (gift). List each item & value, they will put the weight.

  • pam

Thank you ladies for all your kind words

  • too tall Joan

Vicki-Brent's mom, sorry for your loss.  When my mother in law passed away they were very helpful too and getting word to my daughter.

Coach Shelia, loved the pics, made me smile.

I need to get moving on sending out my birthday cards.  Have a great week everyone.  I hope all get phone calls, Skype, fb messages, and such in the week ahead

  • pam

Vicki, huge hugs to you and your Sailor and you family honey.  So very sorry for your loss.

Gaisey,  thanks for the info on shipping.  I've got everything down on that but always run the post office.  So exciting to know we can have USPS and they pick it up.

Also got my Sailors Valentines Day box out.  Anything to put a smile on her face while she is deployed.

  • pschip

Vicki  so sorry for your loss your family is in my prayers

  • Carol Ann

Good morning ladies from Ohio. We got hit with some snow again over the weekend and today it is supposed to drop back down into the teens and more possible snow on the way. ARGH! WE lucked out the last few winters and I think this one is making up for that!

Pam and Vicki-Brent's Mom;So sorry for both of your losses. Hugs and prayers to you and your families. I haven't had to deal with loss during deployment and that has to really suck for our sailors especially and you all trying to get a hold of them and worrying about them being so far away and getting such bad news.

GrandmaB: You're funny! Loved your pictures!

All you other ladies: we definitely have a melting pot of Cabana boys and I have to say they are all good looking!

Marybutler: Please be very careful about listing dates and ports on here or we could be shut down. You may want to read Opsec rules. You can mention this AFTER the Navy officially mentions it of course. Hinting a little probably is o.k. but not actual saying where and when until it's a known fact. Please do not take offense to this, just trying to be helpful and worried about our sailors safety.

Oh yes, Loved the traveling wine too! THAR was funny!

Have a great day! I hope to hear from my son SOON!

  • Catsmom

Good Morning everyone, Got an early morning wake up call...Doing the Happy Dance! She sounds good, tired, there is a Gastro bug going around the ship. She has been working 20 hr. shifts because 3 in her group are sick with it. One in sick bay with IV's and to weak to stand. Praying all the sick get better soon.
Hope they all have a good time while in port and get some R&R .
Carol Ann, sorry the bad weather is back, praying it doesn't last to long.
Have a good Monday everyone, Hope you all hear from your Sailors!
  • Gaisey

My son ended up in the sick bay too. IV for dehydration and meds for stomach pain two weeks ago. Sounds like a virus has spread through the ship... Ugh!!! I am keeping my phone close to me today with ringer at top volume!!! Happy MLK day!
  • Sherryl

My daughter has been extremely sick too, got an email today and she is a little better waiting for  a text/call/skype soon:) hope your sailors get better soon it seems to have been spreading like wild fire:/ my daughter says she is gonna get a room off the ship for a night!! and eat some good food if she can have a great day and love me some cabana boys!!!!

  • pam

Catsmom, so HAPPY you talked with your Sailor!!!   Doing Happy dance with you!!

Sorry to hear everyone is getting so sick.  Hope getting off the ship helps getting all the Sailors back to feeling better quicker.  They all need some well deserved R&R.
