  • Carol Ann

Hey while you're at it Yell at my son to do so. i only have had one call the whole time he's been gone. Received emails of course, but miss his voice! I told my husband to be on alert--he's off today at home for the Holiday.

  • TrumanMom94

Hearing about all our sailors being sick worries me. Here in Texas, I've been VERY SICK with some viral infection in my throat. My daughter in law told me my son called her a few days ago and he sounded a little sick. He's a CS and I am looking forward to tasting some of his cooking!!

  • Coach Shelia

    Yippee! TrumanMom94 I'm from TX!
  • pschip

Happy Dance for all who have gotten to talk to your sailors. I got to talk on facebook for a little while.  Hope he gets to call it would be nice to hear his voice.

I hope all our sailors get to feeling better and get the much needed rest they need.

  • DARmom

I got my first care package off to my son - thanks everyone for direction and guidance. The USPS was closed today so I used a local pack n ship place that I have used before. I probably paid more but it is on its way!

Anyone else a bit on edge over all the security concerns with the Olympics?? I hope we (meaning the greater U.S. military) does not get pulled into anything. Praying for a safe and peaceful games!

  • GrandmaBarB

Darmom. I've been more "nervous" about the sudden arrival of the French Strike Force and the Italians.

Probably n othing....but when you total ALL the news and information from Iran, Syria, Iraq, Turkey and others, it makes me grit my teeth anyway

  • Catsmom

GrandmaBarB, I agree with you. It is a little unnerving!
DARmom, I think that Russia won't be safe for the Olympics...Hope they prove us wrong. Happy your package got mailed.
  • Coach Shelia

GrandmaBarb you always tell it like it is...and I admire that! DarMom sending care packages can be addictive!
  • Catsmom

Good Morning everyone! Have a good Tuesday, one more day closer to seeing our Sailors!
  • GrandmaBarB

Coach Sheila.  Well, let's face it.  It IS what it IS.  Pretending otherwise can send ya down the rabbit hole, for sure.  HA

  • Carol Ann

GrandmaBarB: I am with ya on this...I have been following this closely and sense there if waaay more going on here than meets the eye! The Olympics scare me too! So sad all the problems in this world...

  • LindaD

WooHoo! I got my phone call. I'll be a busy little bee making plans for my mom's birthday party, she'll be 101 years old and just might get to celebrate with my sailor.

He'll have his birthday present a week early, as soon as he signs for it. This will be an awesomely good year.

Blessed Be. Brightest Blessings to all the sailors and their families on the Truman!

  • Carol Ann

LindaD: Happy for you! Sounds like you will be a busy little Bee! Hope all your plans come out just the way you want them to!

  • Gaisey

So happy for those who have heard from their sailors. I am shouting out to all those sailors that haven't called including mine: CALL YOUR MAMA SAILOR!!!
  • pam

Please keep my Sailor in your thoughts and prayers. With the passing of her Grandfather on Saturday.  I did chat with her on fb this morning I could just feel her broken and sad heart.  She said mama my biggest fear was never seeing grama and grampa again.  My poor girl.   So sad for her.

  • Gaisey

Pam so very sad for you and your sailor. You are both in my prayers.
  • Carol Ann

Pam: This brought tears to my eyes. I am so so sorry your daughter has to go through this and not be given the opportunity to see her Grandmother one last time!  I will pray for her to find peace with this. All I can think of for you to say to her is that she has memories of her grandma alive in her heart and she will always have that no matter what. Hugs to you and your daughter and rest of family. Death of a loved one is hard enough, but to be denied that grief time shared with the family is even harder.

  • pam

    Gaisey,  thank you.

Carol Ann,  thank you.  I will let her know what you said.

  • too tall Joan

Pam sorry for you & your sailors loss.  What helped my sailor get past her Grandma's passing was thinking about the memories that she had.  I suggested that she write a letter to Grandma to be read at the funeral.  My husband couldn't do it so I did.  I also sent my sailor pics (she wanted them) of Grandma in the casket and the different family members members.  She was sad for several days but then with their rigorous work schedule, she didn't have much down time to be sad.  God and time heals all wounds.

I'm thankful for the snow day today because my sailor was able to call.  She was on duty today but her plans for tomorrow are to go scuba diving with sharks.  The next day she is going to go ice skating.  She has done neither of these adventures before so I can't wait to see her pics on fb.  Hope everyone gets some communication in the next couple of days

  • pschip

Pam so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you and your sailor. It must to so hard being so far away from home.  I pray that God will give her comfort and that she someone to talk to on the ship. I pray God give your whole family comfort and his peace at this time   Is there anything we can do for you or your sailor let me know.   If i had her address i would send her a card.  But let her know she is covered in prayer

  • pschip

too tall Joan  glad you got to hear from your sailor today  it sounds like she is going to have some fun and i'm sure it is well deserved  they all need the break

  • pam

Thank you pschip  and too tall Joan   your kind words and ideas mean so very much I will let my girl know too.  Thank you and God Bless you.  Yes, her working and getting back to her work routine will help her.

  • too tall Joan

I asked my sailor today if she had been sick because of you all posting that your sailors have been.  She said this is the 3rd time it has gone around but thankful she hadn't gotten it.  She said they are dropping like flies.  Geez, hopefully some fresh air, sunshine, and change of scenery will kill that bug and they will quit passing it around.

  • Gaisey

Coach I figure no call is probably a sign that he is out having fun, but it would be nice to hear his deep voice! E-mails stop coming when he is in port too, I guess he is a wee bit distracted!
  • Catsmom

I am sure that if they are not on watch, they are out enjoying their Liberty. Hoping you all hear from your Sailors soon!
I am sending sanitizing whiles in the next care package, she said she keeps whipping things down, and washing her hands, so far she hasn't gotten sick. Hope they get rid of that bug while in port!
  • pam

Happy Liberty to our Sailors!!!  Happy for them!!

  • Carol Ann

Good morning ladies! Gotta love this FREEZING Ohio weather! We are at -3 below with windchills of -10-15 below today. No snow overnight but some is expected later today again 1-3 inches. My car wouldn't start this morning but that was my fault. I left the dome light on last night after I got home from work. My earring was stuck on my scarf around my neck so I turned it on after I pulled in my garage to disconnect the scarf, earring from one another looking in my rear view mirror and forgot to turn the dome light out, Whoops! My poor hubby had to get out of bed (he works 2nd shift),push my car back and pull his truck up to jump start it and then since it's so cold out we had to wait a while for the car to fully charge and warm up. So 1/2 hour late to work today. Guess I will only take 1/2 hour for lunch instead of my full hour today to make up for it. Sigh....anyhow other than that little hiccup my day so far is going o.k.

Pam-you are welcome! Too Tall Joan-Love what you did to involve your daughter and that's a GREAT suggestion for Pam's daughter. The sentiments especially are so sweet I think! pschip, gaisey and gmill and all who have expressed their sympathies you are all so kind and nice. That is what I like about this site and the shared concern for one another and our children. That is why I continue to stay on this site. I am getting a little concerned as I have not heard from my sailor. The phone call part doesn't bother me but usually we get an email or FACEBOOKed or something when he's in port. Hopefully today we will. SAILOR call your Momma! Coach Sheila I need a shout out from you! I am worried he has this bug and is sick and that is why I haven't heard. Hopefully that is not the case. Hope he's just busy on duty or out enjoying himself.

Watched the National News last night and a couple of shows. They are so worried about terrorists doing something at the Olympics. I wonder if and how this will affect our military as a result. GrandmaBarb-maybe THAT is why the drills with other countries recently. That could be why. Someone said that they are stationing the Navies of Britain, France and US close by to intercede  and rescue their country members should things go wrong. I certainly hope not! Scary scenerio to think about!

  • Gaisey

I read on NPR this morning that old man winter had dropped the bombogenesis on the East Coast! We are in a State of Emergency here in CA, I am actually sick of the sunshine! We have a small pool maintenance and repair business that may be out of business due to water rationing if we don't get rain soon. Geez that business is supposed to supplement our retirement. Nope can't see myself cleaning pools ... But looking for a young cabana boy to help out the old one!!! Hope our sailors are staying out of trouble and having fun Carol Ann!!!
  • Carol Ann

Gaisey: maybe we should bring you all our snow and that would help with your drought! Funny how one part of the Nation has too much liquid--whether it be in the form of frozen or liquid and the other has not enough! So sorry to hear of this and how drastically this is impacting your little business. hopefully that will all change soon for the better for your all on the West Coast! Yeah, i hope my son remembers to have a designated SOBER buddy this time out! LOL

  • Coach Shelia

Safe travels to everyone out in that weather. Have a great day everyone!

    Good morning,
Gaisey I agree with you! I am tired of summer, and we need rain desperately! Praying this drought does not hurt your business. Carol Ann could you please send some of that snow to us? ..I am sure you son learned his lesson last time out..LOL praying for all to be safe at the Olympics, we are living in a crazy world!
Meeting another Navy Mom for lunch today, so excited to meet her!
Have a good day, praying you all stay safe!
  • julie01

Carol Ann so sorry for all the car trouble and craziness in this snowy weather.  Sounds like an old chapter in my life up north.  Rest assured not all are sick.  My daughter has the privilege to host many of my son's sailor friends at her home.  Love the fact they can stay in and order 38" pizza's and her southern home cookin' to die for!  The insiders guide to all things available to them and where to go is very helpful.  They all heard my husband's and my call the "Call your Mama" signal. Blessed to all of ours who have some peace and sanctuary;well needed and deserved!

  • Catsmom

Thank you for the video dragon7. It was very informative .
  • marybutler

I heard form my sailor yesterday. He isn't sick and is enjoying being off the ship. There will not be a tiger cruise when the Truman comes back. Hope that nasty gastro stuff is gone before they leave port. He has been so lucky to have received so many wonderful care packages from the Blue Star moms. He feels very fortunate. Stay warm my east coast friends. I will not give you the Texas weather update :)

  • Carol Ann

julie01: Thank you. Those sailors are lucky to get hosted so well! Catsmom and Dragon7: I saw that video once before. It's long but interesting....

  • trish6794

I watched that video... it's odd to see all of that ocean!!!  It gives me a lot of mixed feelings....

  • trish6794

Haha I keep thinking about how my sailor being sick and how I can't make him my magical cold curing soup.  The soup is becoming the object of my frustration.  Oh my goooosh if you told me 5 years ago I would be stressing about soup... I would have laughed at you and called you crazy... It's so weird.  I never stress.  This is stressful...  We're on the down-slope now though.  Soon... Soon...

  • Bigmama

Hey, did someone say there will not be a Tiger Cruise?  Is that for sure?  It would really help for our planning (and finances) to know.  I will be waiting dockside but my hubby wanted to do the cruise.

  • DARmom

Pam - Your daughter's post brought tears to my eyes as well. I don't know what job your daughter does but my son is an HT and he lost both of his grandparents in the past few years. He was extremely close to them. I was an only parent so  they helped raise him. I'm sure others are supporting her but if she ever needed to talk to someone who would understand, my son certainly would. He is a wise soul and always everyone's friend! Will keep her in prayer. Hugs..

  • AOAngel

My son told us there would not be a Tiger Cruise
  • LindaD

Just stopped by to thank dragon7 for the video link, very informative; and the info regarding FRG, thank you very much for that. Right after I saw your comment, I emailed my sailor that we needed to talk about that when he called the next morning.

Reading the posts about the possibility of no Tiger Cruise, I really feel bad for you all. I've been enjoying all your comments and envisioning my presence. You see, when we first discussed it the very first thing he said was "Mom, you are not going on any Tiger Cruise, ever."

Hearing that, I know that a number of my friends and a great many strangers would think (and often tell me), that he was being very rude and disrespectful. Ah,no.

My children and I have survived for the past 7 years by understanding, respecting, tolerating, and loving each other. My kids know me, and I know my kids (as much as they allow). We're good; we still have some past issues to clean up and recover from, but we survived, and we'll keep on going as long as we keep on going. We've learned that from my mother who will celebrate her birthday soon, her 101st birthday.

Brightest Blessings to all, although I must keep some for myself to recover from a bad day. Blessed Be.

  • Gaisey

Arlene, Go and enjoy the sun! I got a FB message this morning from my son "can't call because I can't find an outlet for my Arabian phone charger" hmmm little stinker!! Oh well we take what we can get!
  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! Hi Arlene! I say go enjoy your time, and we'll all know something for sure before you know it! He didn't hear me shouting Call Your Mama Sailor either. LOL Gaisey, I didn't get a call, email or anything since port liberty. He called Christmas and said he didn't want or need anything...you know Mama's don't want to hear that! lol So I went back and forth on sending him a Valentine's care package. I did it anyway! Valentine's treats and a sappy Happy Valentine's Day Son card with a hand written letter. He'll have a year in this March. I realize that last time I wrote him was in bootcamp. Geez, I've spent all this time since he left wondering if he's going to call, write, or surprise me. I've had to realize to he's too naive to appreciate the letters, cards, care packages. My Mama passed away and all those cards and letters she sent me I have held onto. I saw he is having a blast spending money at the mall!
  • pam

Darmom,  Thank you   I will let my daughter know and huge hugs to you.  Yes, I hope she is getting lots of support from her other family of the Truman.  That must have been really hard for all of you especially being a single parent.  thanks again!!!

  • Gaisey

Coach my son will have 2 years this March, a year with the Truman in September. I bet my son is spending a lot of time in that mall too! I hope he is going out and learning about the culture in Dubai... Can you imagine the good food you can get in the neighborhood restaurants! Of course my son could careless about food and is probably out sand surfing or ATVing. Have a great day ladies!!! Hope the snow melts soon on the East Coast and I am doing a rain dance here in CA!
  • Catsmom

Good morning everyone, joining Gaisey in that rain Dance!! Did wake to fog..but they say that it won't last long :-( have a good day everyone.
Pam sending up special prayers for your girl.
