  • Carol Ann

Gaisey: Awww! So happy for you on both counts! Now I have switched from rain dancing to happy dancing!

  • pam

Hi ladies received an email from my Sailor she said lots of rumors flying around ship regarding homecoming but when the Capt. makes the official announcement then she will let me know.

Playing phone tag but I did get a call back from ombudsman regarding homecoming.

Gaisey, just referred to your info on shipping care pkgs. on line thank you for that.  So Happy you heard from your son   my eyes are tearing up for you thinking about your happy heart!!!

Catsmom happy dance for you!!!  Pkgs seem to be getting there really fast.

  • GrandmaBarB

    Carol Ann.  Whoops, misunderstood.

No matter.  It's still a great duty station......and it never snows.....ha

  • Gaisey

Pam my son received a wet moldy package this week, he is not even sure who it was from... Silly kid threw it away without opening it and guess what he never received his $100 gift card from grandma.. Guess he could of dug thru the mold to get to it!! It was wrapped in plastic, among snacks that were all dry package stuff. He said, the post office personnel wouldn't even touch the box! You never know where you might find treasure.
  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! Happy Dancing here for all who received emails and calls! Hawaii sounds great GrandmaBarb! Gaisey sorry to hear about the moldy package. I sent some treats and know he'll share! We finally got snow today. What? Figures... it's on day I have hair appointment! LOL
  • emmiec

Hi ladies! I believe i've only posted on here once before.. My husband is on the Truman and I know when the Truman left but I haven't heard anything about homecoming. I'm just so anxious to see him again! Without breaking any rules does anyone know or can anyone say if it's going to be an eight month or a nine month deployment?

  • pam

Happy Friday!!!  I spent about the longest time chatting with my Sailor on facebook this morning!!  It was AMAZING!!!

Also I did talk to Ombudsman Jessie,  She was so kind and caring and very helpful and informative on the upcoming homecoming.  So emmiec and everyone please contact Ombudsman for peace of mind if you have questions and concerns about the upcoming very exciting homecoming!!!  Extremely helpful!!!

  • mirca23

wtkr.com ( channel 3 Hampton Roads) posted pictures of the Truman. Go under Military and you will see them. Not sure if they are new or old but they're pretty nice!!
  • Navymom2

  • ddages

Hi Everyone.  I have a son on the Truman.  He graduated boot camp in 2012 and a month later he married a girl we didn't know.  She doesn't want us to be there when the ship comes in.  She says she wants him all to herself.  My son will not say anything to her.  I am devastated.  Any suggestions on what we should do?  Go or not go?

  • dragon7

    GO!!!!

  • Sherryl

ddages if it were me... I would  let her know that you and your family are planning on attending and (confirm your son wants your there too!) share with her that you have been looking forward to this wonderful event also and that you understand that they will need there own special/private time to re connect after such a long time apart. I would gently remind her that you are all family now and are looking forward to sharing these times together.  i am not sure why so many of these new wifes want to just keep the moms out of the way!! So i would go in less my son said no. good luck and hope to see you at the homecoming!

  • Carol Ann

ddages: I agree with Sherryl and how she said to go about it. You have known him a whole lot longer (lol) and he is your family too and you have rights!

  • pam

agree with Sherryl and Carol Ann

  • trish6794

Yaaaaaay pictures thanks mirca23!  Yaaaaay family contact!!

@Ombudsman being helpful - they are really nice and helpful I would give them a call.

Stay safe ladies (and dad... a dad joined right???  haha).  Have an excellent day!!!

  • sandman713

Are you kidding me ddages!  That takes a lot of nerve for your DIL to even suggest that, even if she feels that way.  I would definitely be there!  Remember in the back of your mind....wives can come and go, but mothers are forever....

  • Carol Ann

ddages: You had to figure we are mostly all moms here and we would tell you that-lol! OK you-who, the new guy who's a Dad, what's your take on this?

  • DARmom

ddages - Wow, I think that is every mom's nightmare! My oldest brother was in the Navy and was engaged when he left. He later met another woman, eloped and my parents and us siblings never met her until after they were married. They are still together and she is a wonderful person but I pray my son doesn't do something like that. Will pray she has a change of heart.

  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! Hello again everyone! I'm sending prayers and well wishes your way today and forever ddages! Life is too short and deployment puts enough stress on our Sailors and Marines on the ship for sure. I'm thinking of your son as he tries to be a great son, Sailor, and husband. I hope it works out. We all need to be celebrating our families not stressed. Take care!
  • too tall Joan

Catsmom, celebrating with you.  Great news.  Only 1 wrong, you must have a hard worker and smart at that.

  • dragon7

All I can say is, "ain't NOBODY keeping me away from my baby when that ship comes in!" I would be nice about if I could, but if not "oh well" she would just have to get over it. And I'm really a very easy person to get along with, but that makes "mama bear" come out. I don't have much patience with that kind of selfishness.

And congrats Catsmom - job well done! HOOYAH!!

  • ddages

Thanks for all your suggestions. Hope to be there with a smile!
  • GrandmaBarB

ddages.......  PFFFFFTTTT!!  I'd simply say something like "I regret you are going to be disappointed but we are all going to be there"....

As for your son, if he really didn't want you there, he'd say so.  Ignore the DIL and go.  If she is upset...well, she can get un-upset in the same panties.

Nothing would keep me away.......and shouldn't keep you away either.

BTW:  she has some nerve.  I have married children and not ONE of their spouses would have the nerve to say something like that to me.

Define your roll...you are the Mother.

  • Sherryl

gmill wow sorry about the break up, but does that mean you dont get to have contact with her ex sailor:/

  • carrie

To ddages:  I when instantly in prayer for all involved.  I agree with the others ladies. Girl, don't get me started:  "Aint Nobody got time For All of That"!!!  Put on your big girl panties, because you are Moma 24/7, 365 days a week.   Go-Go-Go Girl!!!!  Ps:  Its our children's fault when they allow others to separate them from their Roots. Check your daughter-in-law out real--real gooood, so you can have a peace of mind what your son got himself into.  (this is real talk, we Momma"s for life)  :)

  • too tall Joan

ddages in agreement with all the Momma's and Grandma's on here and hopefully the father on here is in agreement with us.  It is your right and your place to be there.  Hopefully she will be civil but Momma's for life.

gmill, (((hugs)))  everything happens for a reason, unfortunately we can't pick out kids mates.  Hang in there.

  • Catsmom

dosages, I agree with everyone! All,said what I was thinking. Just let the DIL know you are going to be there, and you will give them their alone time too. You have every right to be there!

grill, I am sorry it didn't work out, but you can still be a part of your Sailors life. Please keep in touch, you don't have to leave us! (((((((Hugs)))))
  • Catsmom

ADANF's Mom, it is not to late to send another care package, mailing one myself this week.
  • Coach Shelia

  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! GrandmaBarb...you are pure awesomeness! It's unfortunate that anyone would have to deal with anything like that. I thought the jpeg image was appropriate for the energy of everyone's responses! I mailed a care package on February 3, checked my usps.com...says package was delivered to Fresno,Ca? LOL I sent a complaint email to them, and hope it gets there. Geez! Anyone with unusual care package stories? LOL Have a great day everyone!

  • Catsmom

    Good Morning,
SUPPORT the Troops, that is so sweet of you, I know they will enjoy! Thank You.
Coach Shelia, not sure where the main distribution center for the Navy is. Mine usually end up in San Francisco
As always you e spire me! Have a wonderful day!.
  • Carol Ann

gmill75: So sorry to hear about the break up. I know how that feels when you get close to the boyfriend or girlfriend and they break up. You never know, they may change their minds and wind up getting back together. If it's meant to be it will be. As far as I am concerned you are still welcome to stay with us on this site. No one is going to kick you off cuz of that. I don't know how weird that might be for you to still go to Homecoming though ir even if you can if you don't have an actual connection-not sure what the rules might be.

  • Zanga-mom (CVN 75)

My son passed his final boards earlier this month. He is home on leave right now,  after which he will be flown overseas to begin his service on the Truman. So proud of my sailor!

  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! Welcome Zanga-mom! Congratulations to your Sailor on his accomplishments! Looking forward to meeting you!
  • pam

  • Ryan'smom

Hi ladies,  I have not written on here, but keep up with all the comments. I have laughed, cried, prayed, and had a few drinks with all of you. Grandmabarb... you have share some great wisdom and it all has gotten me through the deployment. I hope to meet you all very soon. Here is a picture of my son re enlisting in January.  I am so proud of him and I wanted to share.  Hope you all have a blessed day.   PS.. He is the very tall one.

  • Carol Ann

Ryan's Mom: That picture of your son about made me do a double take. he is handsome and reminds me so much of my first son-in-law. My sailor's older sisters' first husband who passed away 8.5 years ago due to a head injury result of auto accident. he was 6.5" tall and thin like him and the sweetest son-in-law you could ever ask for--he was a gentle giant. How tall is your son?

  • Ryan'smom

Carol Ann, the last time i saw him he was 6.4" but he keeps growing, and like you first son-in-law, he is a gentle giant. Miss him so much.

  • Carol Ann

I know. I miss my sailor son too. And of course my son-in-law in Heaven! His son who was 5 when he died just turned 14 in Nov. and reminds me so much of his Dad. He is starting to hit puberty and just starting to grow, voice changing etc. he squeeks at times!  Curious to see if he will be as tall as his Dad. I know he seems to have both parents mellow demeanor.

  • too tall Joan

Zanga mom welcome and congratulations to your sailor

Catsmom happy birthday.  love your eye candy. lol

Suzann thanks for posting. I reposted on my fb.  If our news media isn't going to tell the story, I will through my fb page.

Ryan'smom I have 2 sons that are 6 6 but then my sailor daughter is only 5 8. You have a handsome son.

Hope everyone on the east coast stays inside and safe if possible.  It started snowing in PA around 8 pm.  Gonna be a doozy on top of all that we already have.

  • Catsmom

Good morning, Suzann, love the posting, thank you. Ryan'smom, love the picture! Handsome boy you have. I also have a gentile giant, my son is 6'4". Not so thin, very soft spoken and gentile person. He is not in the Military though. He works for Shumano, in his dream job as a fisherman.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. Had a good day. The best is yet to come! I know you all know what I mean.
  • Carol Ann

Suzann: Also loved your posting. My dad served on the Missouri during the Korean War and the Arizona was very much like his ship. Someday I intend to go to Hawaii and see the Arizona and also would love to tour the Missouri. One thing you ladies would love if you haven't had the chance is to visit Patriot Point and tour the sub and the carrier there--not even as big as the Truman and it took hours to go through this and I still didn't hit it all.

Catsmom: Not sure if I told you Happy Birthday yet or not, but if not wishing you the best year ahead!

My sailor son is 6'2" and very slender. Can't wait to see him again!
