I love snow but enough is enough.

  • too tall Joan

10 inches of snow in this latest storm here in PA

  • GrandmaBarB

Too Tall and others.....here in So. Jersey, we've got about the same.,snow wise.  It's beautiful from my perch on the 10th floor where I live...but then, I don't have to shovel it or drive in it.  (there are some perks to being retired)..... I must admit to being damned sick and tired of it though.  I have lots of interesting things to do in my little nest.....that I love to do....but....enough is enough already.

  • Catsmom

Oh wow, I see why you are all sick of the snow! Sure wish you could send some this way. I think Mother Nature has a sick sense of humor! Won't tell you our temps. We are in desperate need of water in any form.
Just saw the Movie Lone Survivor..WOW needed a box of tissues, can't wait for our sailors to get home!
  • Catsmom

stavsmom, you need to contact the ombudsman, we can't post that info. Sorry.
  • stavsmom

Thank You catsmom. I learned something new.

  • Sherryl

stavsmom, your sailor can write you the date via snail mail just not on the internet:)  wow the snow pictures are crazy!!  this is my view! in the 80s here

  • Catsmom

secrets22, I am sorry you have to go through this. Not much longer, Hang in there! (((((((( HUGS ))))) you and your baby need to be healthy for your Sailor. Wishing you nothing but the best for you. Do you have a name for him yet?
  • Catsmom

Sherryl, is that on I 15? Was 80 here today too, so hope we get rain soon.
  • too tall Joan

Sherryl beautiful view. You in California ?
Secrets22 your almost done hang in there
Grandma barb 10 floors up...that means you have lots of neighbors...no thanks. I'll take my 3 acres
  • GrandmaBarB

too Tall.....Hey girl.  I didn't always live 10 floors up. When raising the family (and two husbands...ha) I lived in an all American split level...for 20 years on half an acre.  Grew tomatoes and flowers, roses and marigolds, lilacs and azaleas.  Mowed the lawn shoveled the damned snow, kept nine rooms, 4 people (6 in the summer when 2nd hubbies kids came down), owned a travel agency and we owned a pharmacy, and all the normal stuff.  Ran kids here and there, hockey, little League, dance classes, and ran the place.

I've been downgrading from 9 rooms for 25 years and finally found the perfect place....a wonderful and kind of spacious 1 bedroom on the top floor of a great building...which I can afford and where I don't have to mow, shovel, plant or anything else.  I happily grow Philodendron, spider plants and other little green things...on my sunny window sills....and watch the snow pile up and cover everything....and I don't care.

I'm happy here at the "top of the world",,,and don't have to do a darned thing except laundry and a quick dust off every week or so....

I drive by the old place once in awhile...where I raised my babies and my husbands....and it's stil lovely....but I wouldn't have it back.

  • pam

Catsmom soooo jealous of your 80 degrees.  We haven't been out of the house for weeks and weeks here in Chicago!!!  Major cabin fever here.  Counting down to Spring and you all know what comes next Homecoming!!!  Yayyyyy!!!!

Hi! For those who live in Hampton Roads: radio station 101.3 is playing recordings from sailors on the Truman wishing Happy Valentine's Day to their loved ones:))!!
  • pam

emmiec,  I spoke with one of the ombudsman recently.  She was so very easy to talk to very kind, understanding and very helpful and yes you can ask her that question.  Don't feel awkward at all that's what they are there for.

  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! Happy Valentine's Day to everyone and your Navy Loved Ones! ! IMG_1024444304349010.jpeg

  • Carol Ann

Good morning ladies and Happy Valentines Day to you all.

Coach Sheila: Love you little link--so so true! Wish I could hug my sailor today but know I will soon! I contacted the ombudsman by email but haven't heard back. Guess I will have to telephone them direct to get the date myself or ask my sailor to snail mail me.

Secrets: Hang in there, you are almost there for both! Take good care of yourself and little Noel. Love his name! Best of luck to you!

Grandma Barb: You have definitely paid your dues as far as now having the luxury of looking out side your tall bldg in the sky and not having to do any maintenance. When  are you moving to Hawaii? Are you finalizing those plans?

All you other ladies with mountain views, 80 degree weather, etc. I am jealous!

We have lucked out so far this week and not had any snow since Monday her in OH and it has gotten up to 20's and 30's this week which is definitely a heat wave! We are expected to get 1/2 inch to 3 inches later today of more snow though and my bad knees are telling me something's coming as they are throbbing! All of you in Georgia and the Carolina's and rest of East Coast getting all this snow-- I am praying for you to be safe and hopefully you all on here have heat in your homes? I couldn't imagine being without heat this past 2 months here in OH it's been so darn cold. Well it's Feb only a couple more months of Winter and we are done.

Those of you who need rain I will pray that is so for you.

Interesting how we all are dealing with all sorts of different weather problems this Winter.

All of you ladies have a great day!

  • Carol Ann

Support the Troops NJ: LOVE IT!

  • Catsmom

HappyValentines day to all my Navy Sisters! Love all the pictures!
Secrets, Love the Name! Can't wait to see a picture of that beautiful baby!
Hope you all stay safe and warm today, Pam I am ready for some winter here, would gladly send you the 80 degree weather if I could!
GandmaBarB, sitting on top of the world sounds good to me! Enjoy your view from the 10th floor! I wouldn't mind being on a tenth floor, except during one of our earthquakes ...LOL
Sherryl, thought I recognized that rout..LOL My ex, father lived in Hesperia. .
  • Gaisey

Happy Valentines Day!! Y'all have been busy on this site. I scanned thru most of it. Catsmom and Sherry we might as well give into sandals and treat ourselves with pedicures as it looks like summer is here stay!

Secrets22 you are so close now and Noel is a good strong name!

GrandmaBarB I am soooo ready for loft living! I am done with taking care of the house, pool, and yard! 22 years here is enough! We moved in our digs 3 weeks before our sailor arrived! We were on the 5 year plan ha ha! Due to CA property taxes we ended up staying put all these years. We added on 2nd floor, put the pool in and I have my garden sanctuary. But, I am done!!! I am ready to get back to the city, where I can walk to dinner, see a show or have a few glasses of vino and wobble home!!

Saw the news on the Bush!!!
  • GrandmaBarB

Carol Ann.....Yes, I love living "high and mighty" here in my humble abode, with a trash shute 16 paces away, a full laundry on the bottom floor, quiet and pretty.  Trash taken away, drive and parkinjg lots all cleared of snow and kept in tip-top conditions...lots of mature landscapes, tall tall trees (whose leaves I don't have to rake), beautiful lawn areas (that I don't have to mow)...ha...etc etc.

If everything "works out" I will definitely make the move to Maui but it's not that easy...so many things to consider and to do.  My son is checking out some apartments around...keeping in mind my "fixed income"....and am exploring things like:  take my car...or sell it an by a junker over there.....ship my bed and some furniture....or sell it all and buy over there.....etc.  Lots to think about...and, should it occure, it won't be for at least a year......thanks for asking.

It's super expensive to live there...everything from gas to groceries to utilities are so much higher............but, it can be done..with careful advanced planning.

Fingers crossed, but patience rules here.

  • GrandmaBarB

Well, finally dug my car out today.  First time since last week end.  Fortunately, the weather gods bless us here in South Jersey today and the sun is bright and shiney with temps between 40-45...for the first time in WEEKS so wasn't too bad getting "Li'l Skippy" out.  Also, my front wheel drive meant I didn't have to dig out behind the car....thankfully....bnecause I don't own a snow shovel!!!

Snow melting like crazy....which is a good thing.  More snow coming late tonight and through tomorrow.

Weather reports that next Thurs and Fri we'll be in high 50's!!!!

  • Carol Ann

GrandmaBarb: Guess the old expression Hast makes waste should apply here! Good that you are weighing all the pros and cons and this and thats before you do it.There really is a lot to figure out when you move that far away. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! Take your time and you will get it right and without the expense of one who just jumps into it all blindly! You go Girl!

  • DARmom

Hey all! I was just chatting with my son and he informed me that the Truman got the Battle Efficiency Award! I had to look it up and apparently it is a big deal! So proud of him and all our sailors and grateful for the family and friends who support them! http://www.public.navy.mil/surflant/cg69/Pages/BattleE.aspx

  • Carol Ann

DARMom: I could be wrong but I thought they got this award too the last time they went out in 2010!~ Yay Truman! Lots of HARD WORK to get this award and it is a BIG DEAL!

  • DARmom

Correction - it was the Battle Efficiency Award. I guess the Battle Effectiveness is the bigger one. In any case, he said he gets a ribbon for it. Maybe others on here know for sure. I was searching for a news release on the Navy site or post from the Captain on the FB page but nothing yet... although I guess they just found out today!

  • carrie

Happy Valentine Day to all of you!!!!

DARmom...CONGRATS-- to your son and the" Entire USS Harry S. Truman Teamwork" for getting that "Battle Efficiency Award!"  What a Great Valentine Day Gift to them all.  I hope they all get a ribbons or something.  lol   I just sooo glad that GOD Bless us to be the Proud Mom's of a Hero.

    Welcome jlgsmgcgg

  • Coach Shelia

Yippee! Welcome jlgsmgcgg! When my son joined the fleet, it took about a week to get email from him with his mailing address. They were in port when he arrived, and it was from his personal email. At two weeks, I received another email with his ship email address. I hope this helps!
  • carrie

jlgsmgcgg.....Welcome also, when my sailor was in bootcamp--I couldn't sleep I was worry and some, I went out on Navy.com and I read everything about the Navy I could-- to have a piece of mind.  Then I found this group Navy 4 Moms (what a relief) I joined in 2010, read it everyday.  Last week I post my first Blogs, this is an excellent support group and we have the same things in common our Sailors, family, feelings, heartaches & pains, cabin fever, the good stuffs and many more topics.  But, you will never be alone or panic anymore.  Like the Truman slogan goes:  "The Buck Stops Here"  Trust me this is your, 0ne Stop Shop-- right here, anything you need or want-- we ladies & dad's are here to support one another 24/7.  Get on the Blog wagon.  lol

  • GrandmaBarB

Welcome jlgsmgcgg........here is the link to the Truman website.  You'll find just about everything you need here.  Across the top, you'll see contact info, ombudsman, etc.

  • GrandmaBarB

jlgsmgcgg.....here;s some information you will find helpful.

    1.  They all work 18-20 hour days, sometimes more...and are usually either hungry or tired.

    2.  Access to computer time is difficult sometimes.  Lines, or no satellite connection, or shut down for security reasons

    3.  Same with the phones.  Only those who don't mind waiting in line sometimes for long periods call.  My grandson deployed with Truman.  He's made TWO calls in all that time....to his mother on Christmas.....and to his favorite Uncle in Hawaii about 1 month ago.  I do get frequent emails, about 1 a month.  I message him email about once a week or 10 days...just to say hi.

Some get frequent calls, wives, some moms, kids, etc....but keep in mind they work hard all day, every day unless they are in port....and you won't know when that is until after it's over....ha.

Keep an eye on Truman facebook.  Lots of updates there and they post plenty of pictures.  Also good is set up Google Alert to send you info, if you have a Gmail account....anything about Truman is sent.

Stars and Strips website is good for general news.

  • too tall Joan
