spring is very early here at my house! my trees are blooming like crazy! lol coulnd attach comment with picture! DUH!

  • Gaisey

I can feel the happiness and the anxiety ladies!!! We will be partying soon!!

My son wrote that he got his Valentine boxes full of goodie bags yesterday. He shared the joy!

Awe Sherryl nice pic! My plum is in full bloom too, started blooming before I could trim it. I had the guys leave it and trim the other sleeping trees and bushes. I used to do all myself, but I think it was worth the $$$ to have it done by professionals, all trees look great! I can't seem to post pics from my phone on here...
  • Sherryl

Gaisey same here didnt have time to trim them up and the fig tree the one in the from has new growth so really dont want to mess with it!

I have us in the Hampton inn on Hampton Boulevard - right across from the docks.  Of course, when I did a Google Earth, I spied a carrier with 75 on it's deck!  Yahoo!!!  Only ... it's waaaaaaaaaay down at the end.  From the air, looks like a whole lotta parking, but I was advised by a Navy mom who has gone thru this - get there early to get a parking place and dress warm coz the breeze off the ocean can make it pretty chilly.

  • jlgsmgcgg

ok ladies!!  I have seen alot of people making hotel reservations and I would like to do the same but if you do not know when the ship is coming home how do know when to make the reservations?  Anything would help!!!!

  • Catsmom

Trees are beautiful! Everything around here is blooming too. Crazy weather!
I know the phone # for the ombudsman was posted, but I can't find it. Could someone post it again please. Want to make sure I get my packet. Thank you so much :-)
Trying to find a car to rent with enough room for my sailors gear and our luggage...any suggestions?
Jlgsmgcgg , contact the ombudsman, we can't post the date here. Security reasons. Wish I could help you.
  • carrie

jlgsmgcgg....Let me also help you out, with all due respect several of the ladies especially since jus before Valentine Day and everyday this week has been sharing all type of information's about this homecoming Events.  Some of us find some time each day to read the blog since we all are trying very hard to line up all of our duck to make this Homecoming-- to get to see our Sailors and perhaps to meet one another.  1.  Please email your Sailor to send you by snail mail (a letter with stamp) with the dated they expect to arrive to your home address. No one is allow to put that information on the internet for Safety & Security purpose. Tell your Sailor to give his Dept./Group the people names who is coming so they can put y'all names on the list to get into the gate.  2. Contract Truman's Ombudsman via email or telephone (USS Harry S. Truman or Navy.com webpage) to get that information.  3. If you can hurry and get it all together because hotel reservations will be sold-out fast.  I hope this help.  We Love You & Good Luck!!  Peace & Love

    Hi ladies!!!

I was reading an email I got from Truman FRG- they're having a wine sale to celebrate the end of deployment and they mentioned the location of the Night Before meeting. Also, I checked the Ombudsman Facebook page and they posted some info for those not on the email list. Have a good Friday and great weekend!!!

Hi Paula,  yes I would for sure contact Ombudsman.  They are extremely helpful.  May take them a few days to get back to you  but the wait is so worth the information.  I spoke to them on the phone.  Packets are still in the works and again Ombudsman will give you that info too. Good Luck!!!

  • trish6794

Oh my gosh the wine glasses are such a good deal!!!!!!   Consider it done.  I don't know about this first kiss competition.  Part of me thinks it's awesome but the other part of me doesn't want everyone staring and cheering haha but it's cute.  Oh my gosh I'm starting to get nervous.  ME!!!  I'm never nervous.  Can you tell this is our first deployment ^.^'  Oh gosh.  Have a good day ladies!!!  Thanks for all of the encouraging and support.  I know I don't post a lot but I read most of it and it's very nice to have.  Prayers and blessings to all <3

  • Zanga-mom (CVN 75)

Thanks for the welcome messages! Have not been on since I joined the group. His leave ends next week. What a long and wonderful time together! Feeling blessed.

  • trish6794

    Oh and then there's this:

Laughter is like medicine for the soul

For the heart love is like wine

When worldly things begin to take their toll

Cherish what you DO have and you'll be just fine

    ^.^ <3

  • Jan C

Had contact with Ombudsman and what awesome information they were able to give, so if you haven't yet, and feel the need - do it - they eased a lot of my confusion -- that and a margarita!!!

  • beenerjoan

Does the sailor make the request for an ombudsman or the family.
  • Catsmom

GrandmaBarB, thank you for the info, as always can count on you for help!
Jan C that is awesome will give them a call Monday!
Still waiting on my banner, ordered it quite awhile ago..

Going to order the wine and glasses for my girl, give her a memento from her deployment. :-)
  • too tall Joan

Just got back from watching Lone Survivor.  I think some of my emotions through the movie was because of having a sailor not home right now.

Jan.C they are very helpful, I agree

I didn't order my banner yet but I have the website marked.  All this snow and no school has my wallet a little low.  Have a great weekend all.

  • Donna (Christopher's Mom)

    Hi ladies,
I haven't been here in a while. Life has thrown some curve balls at me(medical and personal) all is well now and hoping to get back in the groove. Here's to hoping 2014 will be a better year. I'm very excited for our Sailors return. I've been reading the posts and love the excitement going on here.
We're driving our sons jeep up from Florida (not looking forward to that drive)
I'm reading about a packet, emailing the Ombudsman and a night before gathering. Would it be possible to get some info on all of this.
I don't want to miss anything.
9 months is a long time not to see my only child. I'm sure you all feel the same pain I do. It's possible he may be home in Florida for my 50th. Birthday. That would be the best present ever!!!
  • Gaisey

Happy Birthday Carrie!!! LOOK OUT I am right behind you a 1955 model here, still chugging and moving forward!! We baby boomers are resilient!

I am looking forward to hugging and kidding my son! I warned him I might embarrass him and he said, not to worry because he is going to be acting like he is 3 again with me!! I can't wait!!!

  • ktrsb CVN-75

Help! I've been on navymoms since my sailor was in Boot Camp.  Well, now he is headed to the USS Harry S. Truman, driving his car from prototype in NY to Norfolk.  He left it for 3 weeks to come home, but it started up just fine last night.  He spent the night with a buddy in Saratoga Springs, and left this morning.

Soo, his car's broken down.  It's stalled on him about 3 times, each time restarting, but each time running for less time, and taking longer to restart. Finally not wanting to chance it overnight, he stopped in Georgetown, Delaware and is spending the night.

Anyone by any chance know anyone in that area, or who is passing through that area?

I'm really at a loss as to what to do.  Any he's only 20, so not sure he could even rent a car.

  • SHIPMOM14

Too tall Joan are you driving down to homecoming? Just wondering, I live in PA too.
  • Sherryl

ktrsb CVN-75  hi Im on a site on FB for military that need assistance on the road if anyone if available they could help him out are you on FB?  would need more info the site i am on is called open homes for military

  • SHIPMOM14

ktrsb CVN-75 Do you know if that is near Dover AFB if he is in the vicinity they may be able to help him. If he is on orders any military base can assist him.
  • Gaisey

ktrsb CVN-75 is he safe in a motel?? I don't know anyone in Delaware. I am praying for his safety! I have been in your shoes a number of times with kids traveling by themselves. He will figure it out with your guidance!! I would think there is a train nearby he could take if he can't find a mechanic to help him get his car on the road.
  • ktrsb CVN-75

Yes, Gaisey, I should have mentioned, he did find a motel room.  I have the identical car, and used to be a mechanic, so we are pretty sure it is the engine's computer. Expensive, hard to find, and needs a dealership to program it.  Not sure what we are going to do short of putting it on a flatbed and letting him ride with it to Va.

  • Gaisey

I am glad he is safe, maybe the best alternative is to put it in storage in Georgetown then deal with this when he is on leave. He could probably take a bus to Norfolk, good luck to you and your sailor!!
  • too tall Joan

SHIPMOM14, yes we are driving down to homecoming.  I am about 4 hours from Norfolk

Happy birthday Carrie, have a fabulous weekend.

ktrsb CV75 glad your sailor found a motel.  Maybe he could see if Greyhound is nearby.  I just stopped and said a prayer for your sailor.  Keep us posted

  • ktrsb CVN-75

Gaisey/ Joan - yeah, we thought of the bus, but the nearest station is in Dover, 30 miles north.

  • Gaisey

Ktrsb tomorrow is Sunday, tell him to swallow his pride and put on his uniform and hoof it to the nearest church and ask the pastor or anyone who will listen for help. Most likely a few good people will come up with a solution to store the car and get him to Norfolk on time. Not to much to ask when all are in the house of The Lord!
  • Jan C

    Ktrsb  - according to Hertz's web site -- "

    Military and Government Exception

    • If you are in the military or are a government employee, it doesn't matter what the rental company's age policies are—you can rent a car while traveling on official business as long as you're 18 years old and have a valid license. Plus, there is no underage surcharge for military/government personnel—one of the perks of serving your country!"  You might want to call Hertz yourself and book the car and name your son as a driver.  Good luck and God Bless
  • Gaisey

Candyliam's mom we can't say, but you can go to the USS Truman website and contact the Ombudsman for all kinds of good information. 757-572-7690 or first 6 #'s being the same, change last 4 to 4052, or 9473, or 6751 more info at www.truman.navy.mil/
  • Gaisey

Hope we hear from ktrsb today! We are all praying your sailor get's to Norfolk on time!
  • trish6794

    Happy birthday Carrie and Candyliamsmom!!!!!
