Carol Ann - I'm glad you got your infor, I received mines, which I always get my monthly newsletter! That's real music we grew up on that everybody liked. Remember, I wasn't able to come to the Homecoming in person but will be watching the live string.
Coach Sheila I was wonder did you make it there yet. I'm happy everybody made the trip safely. Hope you all get thru the gates before it's over. Hugs y'all sailors for me also everybody!
Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee WOW everyone! We arrived yesterday! I'm so excited I feel numb. We only stayed at the meet and greet for about 45 minutes. It was nice and crowded! My husband is excited too...he purchased 3 Truman t-shirts! I purchased 2 more for my collection! We drove near the pier and my heart is dancing thinking about my son even living on such a big ship!
Partying Coach Shelia! Went to the meet and greet, we went in a different gate, zipped right in. Son in law has a military ID. So exciting to see the Pier ready for the ship! Not sure if I will sleep, like a kid at Christmas..LOL hope to meet some of my Awesome Navy Sisters tomorrow! Coach, you are amazing, so happy we got to meet!
Carrie, happy your daughter arrived safely! Wish you were here too, God Bless you!
pchip, I'm at home and very incited, can't sleep ;) and not excited! All I know is it a wonderful feeling and I have never ever felt like this. It's kind of scary, because I need to come down some-- to be able to be focus and grounded and more alert and strong! lol I'm not complaining, but I'm just saying!
Well we are here waiting. Sailor finally got cell signal and we got to talk for a while. She said they are all getting ready and getting their dress whites on. She said after the dock it will be about an hour and a half before they call liberty and then another hour before she will be off the ship. Woo hoop !!!
So so EXCITED for you all today! I am sitting here reading posts with tears in my eyes remembering how happy and excited i was last deployment when the Truman came in and KNOWING how you all are feeling today! Have fun! Give your loved ones a hug for me and tell them the Navy 4 Moms want to thank them for serving! Whoop! Whoop! I am gonna watch the livestream today too!
I am so excited for all of you that are able to be there today. Our son flew home 2 weeks ago. We had our sweet reunion. Now it's your turn. I worked last night and I prayed for the Truman families and Sailors. This is a wonderful day. Hugs to all. Enjoy every moment.
I can see the ship now off in the distance beyond the point!!! It is moving slow. Our sailor called he is so excited!! We are staying inside the car until they get here, it is freezing. Those poor sailors standing up on deck in their whites and they are not allowed to wear jackets.
WOW---------------------------------! HST HST---- I SEE YOU! Screaming out LOUD------! WELCOME HOME SAILOR's! I'm watching from home on flat screen TV, front roll seat! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm so HAPPY!! My daughter sent me a pic early
Yippeeeeeee! I saw my Sailor son walking behind them interviewing somebody, on the Livestream! While sitting in my Pj's in my warm house! lol
Then he called his mama, once he found his wife, baby & his sister! I so happy for all the Truman's Fleet and their Families. Y'all looking pretty good on the Livestream!! I'm still hollering & screeming in here acting a fool again!!!
Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee WOW WOW WOW!!! I tried happy dancing as best as I could. It was really cold, and so my heart and mind danced! This was a great experience! I can't stop looking at my son! We are now going to leave Tuesday because he'll have to report back then! So happy!!!
Thank God our Sailors are home safe! Hope all of you that are with your sailors have a wonderful visit. Myna sailor made it to San Francisco tonight what a wonderful homecoming for her!
Thank you all, Blessed be the forces of Nature; My sailor is home on leave in time to celebrate his Grammy's 101st birthday!!! We got back home at 1 a.m. this morning and I got 6 glorious hours of sleep. (I don't sleep well and anything over 4 hours at a time is glorious) My sailor is home and he's doing the cooking on Easter; he's cooking the Thanksgiving dinner he missed so we're having turkey with all the fixings and pie, (his own filling recipe including a secret ingredient). He is loving this, his friends met us at the grocery store and they're going to the Penguins' playoff game tonight. Oh, the cherry on my most awesome, wonderful, first time homecoming... I won the FRG raffle!!! Brightest Blessings to everybody, everywhere. All this has brought my life into a better balance and I am and always will be so very thankful to the Source of Life. Blessed Be.
On this Easter weekend on which so many of us celebrate the Return of the Son to His home, please accept this humble token of my appreciation to the sailors and their families - this link will take you to several dozen high resolution images I took of sailors departing and meeting up with loved ones while I waited for my nuke to disembark. Ironically, I missed him coming off, and he snuck up on me and surprised me.
Sandra.... thanks for sharing Homecoming video information.
ktrsb CVN...Awww, I thought that was very nice of you to leave such a heart warming message for us. And all those blessed moments of the homecoming pics you took to share with all of us. I really appreciate you dearly, a pic say a thousand words! I cried, looking at them all. What a Glorious day Good Friday was---- bringing Our Sailor's/Marine's all back Home Alive and Safely, Unity, and Families Reunited, Love, Peace and Harmony! Thank You Lord! Glory Hallelujah!
Happy Blessed Easter Everyone!!! Sandra! My heart almost jumped out of my chest! The cool precision of how the ship approached the pier is amazing! Thank your son! Thanks for everyone's pictures and the Flickr photos ktrsb! I'm so glad to meet Catsmom and dragon7! We took his whites to dry cleaners! He's been very talkative! All a Mom wants to know is that your child is safe, healthy and happy! I'm so proud and the journey continues! I'm enjoying hearing the new lingo! He's learned so much in a short time! We leave Tuesday morning, but I can leave knowing he's doing well. He talked about his "adaptability". LOL My son has matured! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee WOW
Ktrsb-I can't thank you enough for sharing all those amazing photo's. I couldn't attend, this means so much. We did watch via live stream for which I am so grateful for as well. Looking at your pictures, I can't imagine the feeling of getting that first glimpse of the Truman off in the distance. this made me bawl, happy tears of course.
Linda D...I'm glad your Mom got her wish, to have her Sailor grandson home in time for her 101 Birthday/Welcome Home Sailor/Easter/Barbecue/Thanksgiving big Bash! Happy Birthday Grammy again, I know it was a whole lots of LOVE going on this weekend for the entire Family Reunion!
CONGRAT!! For winning the FRG rattfle drawing on Good Friday, USS Harry S. Truman Homecoming! Sister, you were just receiving all kinds of Blessing from above for being so humble and taking care of your Mom. Keep on thanking your sources. Such a Beautiful testimony Linda, thank for the share. Ladies I had an amazing weekend. The homecoming was everything I expected and more. So much energy, happiness, excitement, smiles, and tears of joy. I didn't get to meet any of you but I thought of each one of you and the common bond we all have. The past 9 months have been an amazing journey and I've had a great time sharing laughter and tears with you all. God bless each and everyone of you
Ditto what was said below.. Although I didn't meet any one of you there... It was a wonderful experience and thankfully for at least a little while they will be home... God Bless and Happy Spring Everyone.. Now life can go back to pre deployment normal
ktrsb CVN-75, Thank You So Much for all of the beautiful pictures you posted of the Homecoming for those of us who were not able to attend. Very thoughtful of you, and very much appreciated. God Bless You! Have a wonderful visit with your sailor!! Happy Belated Easter!!
Home from the most amazing weekend! So great to meet Catsmom and Coach Shelia. Thank you all for the support, pictures and prayers. Our kids are the best!!
Also, would someone post the cruise book info again? Thanks!
HELP - Can anyone recommend or suggest roads / routes to take or avoid going east to Norfolk from Michigan / Ohio area? My son flew home and will be driving his truck back for the first time. This Navy mom is a bit nervous... Thanks
I don't understand DARmom, we are here in VA - came from MI we took the toll roads with no problems - you can go to mapquest and get different options for travel
Sandman713 - Great to hear you took the toll road with no problems. I've heard it's not so great through PA and would like to hear more about your experience, opinion. How long did it take you to get there? Did you go straight through or do you suggest staying mid-way? Anyone else used a different route? I'm in information gathering mode... Thanks!
DARmom - we didn't have a problem at all - tolls are expensive - approximately $30 - It usually takes us 12 hours - we stopped this time because we got a late start. My friend always starts in Breezewood PA (that's the only spot that get's a little confusing - you have to make sure you turn at the right light for your exit. The only reason we ever go straight through is because there are 2 of us to drive - my DIL drove straight though by herself. I recommend day driving because Maryland has NO lights on their freeway to get to VA and it is very, very DARK and people seem to drive a lot crazier than MI drivers. As a mom - I would recommend a stop in Breezewood or Hagerstown (the Quality Inn in Breezewood is good. I think we stayed at an Embassy Suites in Hagerstown which was nice and clean.
I have a question for anyone who attended the homecoming. Did the other ships in the strike group also return with the Truman? Or did they return to a different place? Just wondering.
catsmom-really? that must have been so incredible to witness. So you got to see those families greet their sailors? I bet after seeing the smaller ships the Truman must have looked massive.
When I was watching live stream there was a long haired blonde with either a yellow scarf or streamer or something like that hung around her neck. I wish I'd knew who she was! She was behind the male sailor doing the interviews. I also saw a woman in the stands with a yellow bow, or something similar, pinned on her jacket. Do either sound familiar? Thanks for the info on the ships.
Hi HJBird- Yes the whole Truman Strike Force is home. THe uss Mason had a beautiful homecoming on Friday morning. Hope you are enjoying having your sailors home.
