Carol Ann - I agree. It's nice to hear from you and hear how your son is doing adjusting to civilian life.

  • DARmom

Sharoncede - Congrats on your son's impending homecoming! Pass along our thanks for his service.

  • Coach Shelia

Sharoncode and Carol Ann please thank your son's for their service to Our Country! I hope you both check in on us to give us words of wisdom! My son is doing well! He doesn't call or contact me like I'd like, but I've had to learn to back off and stay in prayers. I miss him , but I know he's good...I'm conservatory on his account...can see his spending! LOL I asked him if he wanted that changed when he was home post deployment leave and he said "Na" LOL Have a Blessed day everyone!
  • Carol Ann

Congrats SharonCede! So happy for you & your family, your son and his new wife. Please also tell him I said  thank you for his service! Thank you DARmom. He just came back with his schedule and he starts school (college) towards end of August. He still has to try to find a place to live, but that will happen. He has a few good leads and has to make some phone calls. We are planning his welcome home/get out of the Navy party and that will be fun. We are doing a patriotic theme and asking all to wear Red, White & Blue colors.

Hi ladies, it's been awhile. Busy with all the end of the school year stuff and also trying to get my garden in.
Ladies don't leave the group we will miss your encouragement. And also thank your kids for their service from me.
I will not be going to the friends and family day (even though I would love to) because we are going to spend 4 nights with my sailor daughter and her husband over the 4th of July. Can't swing 2 trips that close to one another.
Carolann sounds like it's going to be a beautiful party. You will have to post pics for us
  • Carol Ann

Too Tall: i will def try to post some picts of the party. ladies if you get the chance to post picts of your ship tours and rides do so too! Have fun!

  • pschip

Carol Ann and sharoncede tell your sailors thanks for everything.  I will not be going up next week but those who do go have fun.    And yes the carrier is massive i have been able to go on and see the ship before they went out on deployment.

The flight deck is huge and you can see a lot from the tower.

    So have fun.

Just talked to my son and he is being transferred to a helicopter squadron.  Anyone else have a sailor that is experiencing something like this?  It kind of makes me sad to think about him leaving the Truman family. But praying that this will be a great experience for him as well.

  • Catsmom

God morning everyone, been so busy wrapping up at School. Hope everyone is doing well! Fr all going to the Family Cruise, have fun and safe travels.

Dragon, hope your son enjoys his new duty station. Don't leave us though!
Carol Ann, stay with us! My sailor is not assigned to the Truman, she was attached for the deployment, but I want to stay here with all of you. I feel close to all my Navy Sisters here!

Last day of work till Sept. for me! S ready for this brake..LOL
  • carrie

GM NAVY sisters!  Catsmom:  glad to heard from you, I have been thinking and still praying for Crystal, I know she feeling and during fine.

dragon7:  CONGRATS to your son on his new opportunity!

I'm hanging-in there and still during fine. My grand-daughter finally move here to Atlanta, soon has her college classes was over. To be with her new husband who lived here since was he was three. They got married April 7, 2014, so they need to spend has much time has they can together before the twins are born, hopefully around the first week of December!  Yay!   So, now my daughter and I have family here.

I'm Happy dancing for all going on Fam Cruise this weekend!   Happy fourth of July to all and your family be safe everybody and take care!   Peace & Love

  • Carol Ann

Good Morning ladies! CatsMom, I am going to stay with you all for a while as I do feel that connection with you all.  Carrie so glad you now have family there with you (close by). That makes all the difference! You definitely will have to keep us up on the twins. So happy for you! Have a great day ladies! It's been very rainy here in OH with lots of storms and flooding! Not very good weather at all....

  • carrie

Carol Ann: thanks and yes I am going to keep everybody up on the twins, they already planned this big baby shower back home in the DMV for the crew up there.  And another  baby shower in Atlanta for the crew here (including me) lol!!!

My grand-daughter mom was in town for a week, looking at houses, she said she's up-rooted her house-hold and they are moving to Atlanta also.  She said, we want be having all that funny with the twins without her!   hahahaha

With that said, I assure you they will be many, many more family members moving into the Atlanta's area, some will be starting college here in the fall anyway.   My daughter is so ecstatic and my sailor son said: say what--- for real!!  Hmmmm!   I would not be surprised if he transfer close to home!   Oh well, sound like its getting ready to be a big Happy Family Reunion everyday in Atlanta!   Has Coach Sheila would say:  Yippeeeeeeeee!!!   ; )  Peace & Love

Ps:  It was awfully HOT (Heat wave) here everyday and nights last week, folks was pass-out like flies here!  So, its a blessing we will have rain & storms everyday this week.  Which is better than the Heat wave running up the electric bill!   Sorry, you guys are having flooding, just be safe and blow-up an air mattress in case you guys gotta get out there quick for safe!  Use the broom, iron pole or baseball bat for pedals!    Peace and Love

  • Carol Ann

    Carrie, You are so funny!

  • Coach Shelia

Oh how awesome BusyMom! I am so happy you and for everyone who was able to attend...the weather was very nice!!! I am in awe of our Sailors! My heart beats fast just remembering Homecoming and seeing that gigantic ship pull in to the pier! Husband and I got a tour the day before he reported back after Homecoming weekend. I'm so proud, that kid moves around that ship like a ninja! LOL We just followed his lead. I hope everyone is doing well! Take care everyone! HOOYAH

  • Navymom2

  • Carol Ann

Ladies: I sent away for the 2010 Deployment book and this most recent deployment book 2013-2014. The recent one not here yet, but the 2010 one came in the mail yesterday. my son was surprised I sent for it and said Mom you shouldn't have spent the $ for that. There probably won't be many pictures (if any) of the Reactor Dept. I told him it was a keep-sake I thought he should have of his military days and that he would really appreciate it someday and so would his kids and grandkids when he tells them stories of being in the Navy. Anyhow last night he was looking through it and I asked him to show me the picture of him in the book and his division. he brought the book over to me and started talking about the people in his division and the people in charge and went on for about an hour with it all. I heard some funny stories and memories of his from his first deployment and who was still with ship for the 2nd one. It was well worth it to me to hear his stories and him open up about his experiences with these people. He is so quiet about his Navy days and it felt good to hear him open up more and tell me about things that happened and how he felt then. It was well worth the $ for the bonding we had last night over this. What I hoped would happen with this did. happy Momma here!

  • Coach Shelia

How nice Carol Ann! I have kept everything since he left for bootcamp last year! I do it for him to share memories with his family one day!
  • Carol Ann

Coach Sheila: I have saved emails and letters and need to round it all up and give to him to keep. We are having his Welcome Home/Get Out of the Navy Party on July 12th and I can't wait. I will take lots of pictures and post for you all to see. I am looking forward to this! We are asking everyone to dress patriotic or in Red/White/Blue colors. I am decorating that way too and have a few surprises to go with the theme.

  • jbird

Coach shelia- you sound very happy! I'm very happy too!

Carol Ann- I'm sure our sons either work together or have crossed paths down in the nuke part of the ship. I was curious about ordering one of those deployment books. It's like a yearbook, right?  what really sold me is when you mentioned sharing his military days with kids and grandkids. what a fantastic piece of his history to have.

  • Carol Ann

jbird: It is exactly a yearbook. The 2010 one was about an inch or so thick and somewhat expensive. The 2013-2014 is thinner and i think like $39.00. i ordered that too, but they hadn't completed it yet. It should be completed soon I would imagine. My Dad was in the Navy. he served in the Korean war on the USS Missouri as a Radar Tec. When my son was little he used to love looking at his Grandfather's yearbook. His Grandfather had died before he was born and I think this made him feel connected to him and may have also triggered his idea to join this branch of the service. My oldest brother has the book and I have asked him if I could have it as it would have such meaning for my son especially. They both went to boot camp at Great Lakes and both were home ported in Norfolk, VA. My son is named after him too. I often wish they could speak to one another as they would have so much to talk about.

  • jbird

wow carol Ann- I'll bet there's some kind of connection even though they can't see eachother. Neat story!

how did you order the book?

  • Carol Ann

jbird: I had a website from when I had ordered pictures of my son and I went to that and looked for the ship and the deployment dates and ordered both yearbooks on line. I will look and see if I still have the info at home and let you know.

  • Carol Ann

jbird: I had it in my purse still. It's Blue Water Publishing. www.getmycruisebook.com  The 2010 Cruise book cost $59.00. The 2013-2014 cruise book cost $36. I had to pay shipping on top of that too of course-$18.00. My total was $113.00, which isn't cheap but I still felt well worth it. The least I could do for him.

  • Coach Shelia

Hello everyone! I want to send my son a care package. He lives on the ship. I have quite a few priority mail boxes I ordered from usps last year when they were on deployment. Can anyone tell me of their experiences of sending packages to the ship. Thanks! Have a fabulous July 4th!!!!!! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee WOW
  • Coach Shelia

I've read on other blogs that it can still take awhile even though they are back in the states. Thanks for your advice! Take care!
  • pschip

Coach Shelia i sent my son a package to the ship before they deployed and it took it about 2 weeks  hope that helps I'v not sent him one after there return

  • Malen (navy mom of two sailors)

Its my sons first assignment with USS Truman and he said the  ship will be in the shipyard for quite sometime.

  • carrie

Hello NAVY Sisters and I hope everyone is enjoying the Independence Holiday weekend! I'm glad y'all had a fun day on the Cruise. My grand-daughter/husband just found out the twins are identical GIRLS! Two sweetie pies to dress-up like doll babies! Coach Shelia called the GIRLS out earlier-- Yippeeeeee! lol

I notice Coach Shelia post about: her son living on the Ship & Malen post about: her son first assignment on Truman, the Ship being in the shipyard for a long time. Is something going on with Truman Ship/Crew or did I miss something? Have a Blessed day everybody. Peace & Love
  • Malen (navy mom of two sailors)

Carrie my son mentioned that the ship will be moved to the Shipyard before end of the year for repair.  I think 3 of them is planning to  look for an apartment to stay.  He said that his first deployment will be 2016.  Im not sure how accurate the info.

  • carrie

Gm Malen....thanks for the infor. I just was sure nor clear thought something new was happen. That sounds about right, wen my sailor first came the Ship was just returning from deployment and they work on the ship in the shipyard. So Truman just return from deployment in April, and most of the sailors will get new ordered and rotate out to new states or remain in Norfolk during something else. So, I guess that the norm 3 sailors buddies getting a apt together, my sailor did the exact same thing. They look out for each other, I think that cool and safe because they are newbie dont know anybody and away from loveones. lol Peace & ♥
  • too tall Joan

    Hey ladies
Spent the July 4th holiday with my sailor girl and her husband. What an incredible 4 days filled with much laughter. When she goes to work in the morning we are heading out to spend the rest of the week in Ocean City, MD.
My daughter has done a beautiful job decorating their apartment just since being home from deployment. I'm so proud of her.
  • Carol Ann

Good morning ladies, Hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July weekend. I had a great time with family and just being home. Coach Sheila, The shortest amount of time it has ever taken me in 6 years of my son being in the service has been 6 days for a pkg to get there. Normally when they are in port it takes about 2 wks on the average to arrive. Of course I live in OH and that might make a difference as to where you are sending pkg from. Welcome Malen. Not sure if you are new to this website but I don't recall seeing you on here before. Usually when the ship comes back into port from a deployment it goes back to the shipyard for repairs and upgrades. It will be at least a year at the earliest til they go out again I would say.

  • Carol Ann

Hello again ladies, I am at work and got interrupted by a phone call. i would say Malen your son would know what they think at this point in time will be the next deployment date for the Truman, but that can change overnight if the Navy should decide so though, so keep that in mind too. Carrie, so happy to hear you now know what your twins sex is. Two little girls to love and spoil. I do have to admit it's way more fun dressing little girls than little boys--at least they have way more clothing options than boys do-that's for sure! Too Tall-glad you got the chance to visit with your gal and see her apt. and her efforts to make that look nice.

Saw FACEBOOK posts about the cruise for family and friends. Sounds like a great time was had by all! i never did get the opportunity to go on the ship but have been on others and have a general idea of the size and layout.

My son is gearing up for college which will start in a little over a month. WE are gearing up for his official welcome home party this weekend, which I will have to show you picts of later. So excited ! Can't wait to celebrate his Homecoming officially!

  • Coach Shelia

Hello everyone!!!!! Carol Ann, my heart swells with happiness for you! I can just imagine the stories your going to hear from your son! So happy for him and going to college! Thank him so much for his service to Our Country! I know you won't relax until he's officially "at home"! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee WOW Carrie twins! I've got the old Doublemint commercial jingle in my head now..."Double your pleasure...double your fun"!!! I saw the most heartwarming story on the local news here in Texas. Proud Navy Mom and Dad were attending July 4th parade...guess who surprised them standing on a float? Their Sailor, who they hadn't seen in over a year! I cried like a snotty baby seeing that! LOL Sending prayers and well wishes your way Navy Family forever and always!
  • Coach Shelia

Hello everyone! Too tall joan, I missed commenting on your visit with your daughter! I know it feels good to see her grown up and making her way! I look forward to that!
  • GrandmaBarB

Dragon 7.  While I agree he SHOULD be able to fly the USMC flag, I disagree with the "right" to do it.  He knew when he moved in there were rules about this...and he moved in anyway.  It's not about patriotism at all.  MOST complexes have rules about lots of things from what you can plant to the type of furniture on your porch or the color of your front door.  Society is filled with rules....which we ALL must obey.

You can bet you bippy that if someone wanted to fly a swastika or a Muslim flag, the neighbors would be screaming their heads off.

If you don't like the rules where you live....move.  Disobeying them proves nothing at all and suggests that somehow one is exempt from them.

  • dragon7

GrandmaBarB, I agree with you on that point and I definitely believe in following the rules. What I found refreshing about this story is that the Marine is renting the house, the homeowner is the one that was told the flag had to come down. The homeowner said they would not make the Marine take it down and they would pay the fine and continue to do so.  They are also working to get the rule changed. I feel sure that if the homeowners had told the Marine to take it down, he would have. In this day and time where there is little respect for our military, I was impressed that the homeowners were willing to take this stand. (I took the link down)

  • jbird

dragon7- I loved the story. I hope the rule is changed

  • Coach Shelia

Wow dragon7, thanks for posting that! It makes me realize how much freedom we have than other countries. I hope things work out for all those involved in this story. There are probably more stories like that from all our branches of military service than we know. Take care everyone!
  • Carol Ann

Unfortunately like Grandma B says if you live in one of the neighborhoods where there is an association with rules it sometimes seems unfair. Hopefully they will get that one changed. Of course being a former military serviceman's (I can now say that) mother I would like to think that patriotism would be the exception to this rule but it was an existing rule before they moved in.  Kudos to the homeowner for paying this fine and trying to get this rule changed.Hopefully that will happen. It was a nice story.

Ladies, on an unrelated story--we had a wonderful welcome home/get out of the Navy party for my son Saturday! He thoroughly enjoyed it and was amazed at the people who showed up to see him and thank him for his service. some he hadn't seen since he went into the Navy 6 years ago. I was so busy I didn't get but a couple of pictures, which is too bad as it was decorated so nice. i will have to see what I do have and post later.

  • Carol Ann

I did have these two pictures on my cell phone...
