LindaD: Get a hold of the Ombudsmen and see what they have to tell you...

  • LindaD

Thanks Carol Ann, I left a message with the Ombudsman and one with the shipmate that called at 7 this morning. I also got the number for the watchman but keep getting a busy signal. I saw the latest article about the incident on Tuesday and they had names mentioned; I talked to my sailor late Tuesday night so I know he wasn't involved. I'm not feeling as agitated as before, I've gone into waiting mode and I feel something is wrong but it's not a dire emergency.

  • Carol Ann

LindaD: Try looking at the Truman emergency contact information on website and see if there is somewhere else you can get a hold of there. I have this number you can try too-it's Truman Emergency contact number: 757-396-3516 or 757-572-7031. You can try that. Please let us know if your son is o.k. as now you have me worrying too. Thanks!

Too Tall Joan, so sorry to hear of your kitty.  Eerily, too close to call for me on this one.  Your daughter and my son in the same, knowing the personal tragedy of this sailor.  My son also lost another friend 4 years ago, on the same day (which also would have been his friend's birthday) Now , 2 friends lost. I told him to go to the chaplain, but I haven't heard back.  I believe one hour could have made a huge difference for everyone and could have dramatically changed the outcome.  Carrie... you are right about the weird vibe in the US and how we need to have faith to keep it together. I am shaken to the core on this one. So often, we just don't hear from our SR and can almost expect that to be the norm.  I hate this, it is real hard to believe it is real.

  • Catsmom

To tall Joan, I am so sorry about your kitty. ((((HUGS))))) I also love my animals like they are my kids. We lost our kitty a few years ago, broke my heart. Just our baby Willy now, my granddog who is now mine. Talk to him all the time, and when I spell out go to the beach, he runs to his leash, so yeah I believe they can spell..LOL

Linda, hope you hear from your son soon. And everything is ok.

Have a good weekend everyone! Going to the Pompeii exhibit on Sunday, should be fun.
  • carrie

Good evening navy sisters,I hope all is well with everyone. And hope the Moms had a ball with they Sailors visits. Guess what, I finally had a 8 x 10 pic made & framed, to hang up on my wall of Truman sailing with the Rainbow while there were at sea during the underway!

This pic (keepsake) is so breath taking & calming and the best part; my Sailor son was on board at the time this pic was taken! (your Sailor's too) na-na-na! hahahah! :) Peace & Love
  • too tall Joan

Thanks catsmom & julie01 thanks for your hugs and kind words. My summer part time job work schedule has been crazy. I can't wait for school to start in less than 3 weeks and go back to my normal classroom aide job.

Thanks too tall Joan, yes, I got all the info I needed and the information I have has raised some concerns in my mind regarding the health and wellbeing of ALL members of the military. I just got off the phone with my sailor and he is okay and on board the ship. I heard his voice, he's okay so now I can concentrate on getting my pinched nerve fixed. Brightest Blessings to all the Truman family.

  • Coach Shelia

Hello everyone! I hope you, family, and your Sailors are well!
  • Carol Ann

Hello Coach Sheila!  My son has an apt. up in Columbus and is busy getting that cleaned and set up. We hauled the big stuff up last weekend (furniture) and I cleaned his kitchen. My husband helped him set up his bed and we even took out the windows and cleaned them cuz they were filthy! I went shopping and bought a bunch of things he would need--toaster, bath rug, bath mat, shower curtain and liner, towels for bath and kitchen, some kitchen utensils, etc that kind of thing. He was very grateful and said Mom this is like Christmas! Anyhow he has been up there the past two days cleaning and setting up. Said he bought $125 worth of food to start and then the power went out. It was out for almost 7.5 hours but putting bags of ice in his fridge with the food made it all good. He is excited and school will start Wed. Last week he and his big sis, her 2 kids and  her boyfriend all went camping at Assateague Island for the week. She left Fri to come back home. He drove separately and went over to VA to visit with a couple of his Navy buddies for the wkend. Said it was good to see them. Hoped to get together with more but some had other plans or watch. He has been going to VA for follow up physical, test, etc. which is normal procedures when you get out. Said he was going to transfer to Columbus branch of VA. He told me there is a possibility he may qualify for a partial disability as he injured his knee and back fitting the ship last time it was in port before they went out. He has been suffering with pain in both and having some issues. I was surprised they are even considering this.

  • too tall Joan

Hello coach Sheila & Carol Ann & everyone else
I am doing well but my sailor could use some extra prayer. She took a test for one of her AO qualifications & didn't pass so she got in trouble & I believe has to retake this coming Monday. I've been praying for a clear mind for her & good study habits.
Carol Ann I'm glad you stayed a part of us & to hear about your son as he starts this new chapter of life. I hope the military does him right & he gets his partial disability but it does sound like they will. Sounds like he is very focused & ready for school. Keep us posted
My new school year started this week and the kids come back on Monday. Looking forward to my 12th year in education as a teachers aide in the high school & making a difference in the kids lives
  • Carol Ann

Thanks Too Tall. I will pray for your daughter to pass this one with flying colors.Good luck with your teaching year ahead and thank you for doing such an honorable job and for helping make a difference in the lives of so many. I miss talking to you ladies!

  • Coach Shelia

Carol Ann what a Blessing for you to be there for your son! I'm so proud of him! Once again...tell him thanks for his service to Our Country! We need you here for your wisdom! Too Tall Joan, I didn't know we had AO's? LOL I ask my son frequently how everything is...of course he says "everything's fine Mom"!My son is G-1 unit! IYAOYAS...Keep Calm and Drop Bombs...Warheads on Foreheads...Keep Calm and Love An AO...! I made the last one up myself, but never put it on a t-shirt from KeepCalmStudio.com! I will be praying for your daughter! They probably know each other! I have to constantly remind myself that if problems arise, he has to deal and learn from them. It's been real tough to let go and not "coach" him so much! LOL These wonderful young women and men we've raised to be Sailors know we care! HOOYAH!
  • too tall Joan

Coach Sheila I had no idea your sailor was the same. Gosh it has been so long since I have thought of units that I forget which one my daughter is in. Is your son working days or nights this week? My daughter is on day shift. I have heard most of those saying but I always love your enthusiasm. Thanks for the prayers and Carol Ann thank you too. I know she has to do this on her own, with Gods help of course but she asked me to pray so I figured "where 2 or 3 are gathered in God's name", she will do well.
  • Carol Ann

Just to let you ALL know I pray every night and every morning for the Truman and all the members of of military serving. It's a habit that I got into when my son was serving and one I will never break. I came away from this experience with  a completely different appreciation for the military and their loved ones and what all is sacrificed for our freedom. It has been a good experience for me!

  • Navymom2

Thank you sooo much for all your prayers Carol Ann!  GOD bless you for your faithfullness.  So happy for you and your son.  :)

  • JKHarris

My sailor suppose to be reassigned at the end of the year! But, I will remain loyalty with my navy sister's/TRUMAN'S MOM GROUP until they kick me out! Lol Peace and Love
  • Coach Shelia

Sending prayers and well wishes to your Sailor, you and family today and forever JKHarris! Sending prayers and well wishes to ALL your Sailors, you and families! I appreciate you ALL! You've answered so many of my questions. We're ALL on the same ship...no matter where the ship is! Carrie...noone gets kicked out! Take care everyone! "Non sibi sed patriae"-"Not for Country but Self"...(Unofficial Navy Motto) I have researched so much Navy stuff! My son has no idea how much I've learned either! LOL
  • LindaD

My sailor is in distress and I've been having a lot of trouble with phone numbers to the Navy. One thing I just discovered is that the phone number for Ombudsman Shannon as listed in the August newsletter is wrong; the last 4 digits are 7658 they should be 7568.

I made that emergency call to the correct number and getting ready to go to Norfolk tomorrow.

  • carrie

LindaD so sorry to hear this news, I've sent prayers up for your sailor son, you and your FAM! I fly into Norfolk on last thru and will be here for a couple of more days! I haven't seen my sailor son son in 15 months, I had this strong feeling I need to get here ASAP! These Sailors all go thru so much challenges that cause so much stress, we has parents have to hold, hug tightly, kiss them, how much we LOVE and miss them also let them know no matter what we are here for them period! Linda everything is going to.work out find for him once you arrived and give him huggs from me also let him know all of the navy mom's love him just like our own son! Go in Peace and leave something for GOD to do! Peace and Love
  • too tall Joan

lindaD I have been praying for your sailor and for you. (((Hugs)))
Thankful for Gods protection over our sailors today. Almost 5 inches of rain in 4 hours...crazy. My daughter said she was so scared driving home from work
  • LindaD

Thank you carrie. I spent most of Saturday evening on the phone/email/text with both my sailor and Shannon from OMB, Thank you Shannon. We all agreed that it would be best for him to be transported to base medical; they took him Sat. night; so I know he's safe. I'm primary caregiver for my 101 year old mother so I can't just drop everything, pack up my car and take a road trip to Norfolk. So, I'll be staying home and waiting for the next phone call. My intuition tells me his Navy vet uncle is watching over him and he's getting the help he needs.

  • Carol Ann

JKHarris: Congrats to your daughter on her new position. Just cuz she is moving to another ship doesn't mean you can't check back with your sister on the Truman every now and then. Obviously I still do and will continue to do so as I am  still interested in what happens to you all! Speaking of which--LindaD I am so sorry your son is in distress! Hopefully he is doing better as i write this. you have my prayers and concern. It is hard to be far away and have other obligations that you can't just up an leave when something happens. I am sure you are conflicted over this. hugs to you and l know you have a whole lot of well wishers on here. TooTall: That's an awful lot of rain in such a short time! We have had a very rainy summer here in OH and also cooler than normal which is fine by me. Take care ladies! We are all fine at my end. My son is doing well adjusting to the college life. He stayed up in Columbus last wkend-said Mom I can't come home every wkend. He was planning on going to OH St game (not sure if he got in), going to a gun show and possibly to a shooting range he says. So he is keeping himself occupied and finding things to do there.  Take care all! I will continue to pray for the families of the Truman and it's sailors!

  • Coach Shelia

Hello everyone! I hope you, Sailors and families are well! Has anyone used PEOPLExpress airlines! I checked out their website www.flypex.com. I know our son is okay, alive and well...by his spending on his debit card! Take care and have a fabulous day! Go Navy! HOOYAH!

Hello Coach Sheila! I am fine. See your posts on FACEBOOK all the time! My son is doing well. He comes home about every other weekend (with his laundry of course) to visit for the weekend or at least from Sat-Sun. His college is about an hour and 1/2 drive from our house. He seems to be doing well. Is completely focused in college, studying, papers, etc.I send him home of course with food and other things. He says Mom I don't know why you feel like you have to do this. I was gone for 6 years in the Navy and did alright. I said this is my chance to spoil you again and I enjoy doing it. I make his favorite meals and even did all his laundry for him last weekend. My husband said you are completely spoiling him. I said I know and I am enjoying every moment of it! How are you and everyone else doing and your sailors too of course?

  • Coach Shelia

Wonderful Carol Ann! You know we live to spoil them!
  • Carol Ann

Coach Sheila: Yes we do! If nothing else because of his 6 years in the service I learned to not take him for granted and to appreciate the time I have with him then and now! I LOVE spoiling him, my husband, daughter and 2 grandchildren!

  • ChristineRenee5

Hi all, I've never posted here as my husband is currently on the USS George Washington but I'm hoping someone can lend me some clarity. I just read that the Eisenhower and Truman are switchi deployment schedules - does this mean my husband will deploy in 2015 instead of 2016 now? He has orders back to Oceana with VFA 105 in February, so his squadron was last on the Truman. Thanks ladies : )
  • JK Family

Out sailor is pretty bummed about yesterdays annoucement.  Me too.  Staying Strong and Thinking Positive.

  • GrandmaBarB

Facebook has added over 60 photos of our sailors ...of the recent underway.  Looks like it was a very hardworking time.  Much to do before deployment I would imagine.

  • GrandmaBarB

ChristineRenee.  Nobody knows for sure but if you google Truman and read all the announcements, it looks like those transferring to the Eisenhower have already left.  A little more reading will let you know what happened.  Eisenhower had been in for heavy repairs and maintenance and there was some sort of minor radiation leak.  This caused ALL work to be suspended for an unknown period of time.  Eisenhower will not be able to meet her deployment schedule at all....so Truman is going.

  • ChristineRenee5

It loses me when it says strike groups with switch carriers. My husband says he will now deploy with Ike with the same schedule he would have had on the Truman had this not happened - is this because he's attached to the ship and not ship's company? He is CSG10 therefor switching carriers, yes? I guess I'm in a bit of a panic as he's been gone since January 2013 and rotates to his new command early 2015.
  • Coach Shelia

Good morning everyone! Good to see you post GrandmaBarB! You always have great insight and positivity! ChristineRenee5, thank your husband for his service to Our Country! I know it's hard him being gone so much. When I saw the posts about the change, honestly, I didn't get upset. Last year August/September, right before/after my son was due to graduate A School, the Syria crisis was going on,The USS Harry S.Truman was deploying in July. I was a hot mess! I decided last minute to drive to Pensacola from Texas for his graduation! It was short and sweet graduation, and the leave was only 7 days. He was deployed to the carrier week after. I'm in a better place because I know this is what they train for. My heart is good in prayers for ALL Our Troops and their families! They talked last year 2013 this time about the deployment rotations beginning November 2014, and the Truman was due to start the rotations November 2014. Everyone was posting about them returning, and going out again. That changed, and I've learned is to keep cheering for my son. I have about 50 USPS priority mail boxes and forms, I sent alot of care packages! Learning from all of you what I need to do back home while they train and stay prepared. Stay prayerful, focused, patient and positive!
  • GrandmaBarB

Coach Sheila.....it's been sooooo quiet since Truman came home.  I do check once in awhile.  Gotta keep up with my Sisters....ha.

Looks like our boys and girls are in for some more adventures, huh?  One thing about the military and the troops, sailors and Marines.....don't ever write anything in pen...always use a pencil....with a big eraser....ha

  • GrandmaBarB

ChristineRenee.....here is the important sentence from the article....."The staff of Carrier Strike Group 10, who had been embarked on the Truman, will shift to the Ike. The schedule change doesn’t affect other ships or squadrons, FFC said."

Only the STAFF of the Strike Group will shift to Ike.  Sailors attached to the Truman will stay with the Truman.

    http://www.navytimes.com/article/20141006/NEWS/310060036/Carriers-T...

The important thing is not to fret over this.  It is the military and nothing is written in stone.  We all are at the mercy of world events, maintenance schedules and the needs of the Fleet.  Roll with the flow.......it's all you can do.  Exact information will not be forthcoming publicly at all...due to OPSEC rules.

  • carrie

Good morning & hello Navy Sisters, I hope everyone is doing fine and staying strong for our Sailors! Oooh-- WELCOME BACK, GrandmaBarB what a wonderful blessing & pleasant surprise to hear from you! How have you been doing & your grandson? You have always been GOD send to us, you have, been and still is are our Real Anchor (Rock) for this Group! I personally Appreciate you, even I get weak & weary sometimes! But, I know with much prayers and me fueling-up off of your guidances, advices & your funny jokes---; Imma be alright, a better Person, Stronger Navy Mom & Navy Sisters! Thanks for posting, we miss your LOVE and may GOD continue to Bless you and ALL of your Love-one! :-) Peace & Love
  • GrandmaBarB

Carrie...what nice things you say.  You make me blush...ha.  It's been quiet here since Truman came home, it seems...and I have been enjoying seeing my Sailor once in awhile when he comes home on leave.  It's about a 5 hour drive for him.

First thing he did was buy himself a CAR with money he saved up...not having anywhere to spend it///ha.  It's a cute electric blue Honda of some sort, second hand, of course but perfect for him.

He passed his Petty Officer testing and now wears the emblems proudly.  And, he's even cuter than he was a year ago (alright, so I'm biased).  He will always be my Little Munchkin though..no matter what rank he is or how old he is...

Looks like our Sailors got a little surprise this week.  I've read many who are upset about all this...and I understand, for sure.  However, it's always "Anchors Aweigh" in the Navy.  A ship is of no use sitting in port.  Nobody said it would be easy on anyone, true, but it is a fact of life.  I'm still thankful every moment that he isn't crawling around in the sand somewhere ducking mortars and launchers.....

Thanks again for your kind words.  Makes this old gal proud.
