Thanks, Coach.....I agree...he is a handsome devil. He looks like his Mom, right down to the dimple in his chin...but his nose, mouth and smile are all Daddy's. No doubt, great gene pool....ha.
Can I brag some more. Just got this picture earlier in the week showing off in his sort of dress uniform and barracks cap with his insigna shining bright on his hat....and his shoes worthy of the Marines....ha.....
Hi ladies. Today is my Friday because it is an in service day today & I don't have to go in. Love 3 day weekends, a perk for working in education. Lol
GrandmaBarB glad to have some input from you...it's been awhile. You have a very handsome grandson. Congratulations to him on his new endeavor.
Love your comment about his shiny shoes. My daddy was also a marine. As a kid he took pride in spit shining his boots and shoes, spending what seemed like hours getting that perfect shine. The first time I saw my daughters boots that only need the tips shined, I about died. Times have changed
Happy Friday everyone, good to see too tall Joan, Coach Sheila, Renee and our Sister GrandmaBarB post this week. Glad everything going well for your son too tall Joan and you. GrandmaBarb, what a lovely pics of your fine sailor, and CONGRATS to him and you on passing his Petty Officer test. Also, you are quiet welcome and I'm glad I brighten your day, it is so much easier to be kind to ppl and show how much you appreciate them, they time and efforts! The World would be a much better place for us to live in, if ppl will just respect themselves and other human being and stop be selfish and hating! You're just a sweet person who bring wisdom, much experiences and knowledge to this group. You even take the time out to research infor to bring Facts back to this group and keep everybody straight when they get out of place here with some of your jokes! Has you say all the time: Remind them all this is what they sign-up for! Ha Always, good to hear from you and know that you are still during good and haven't missed a beat in Life! (Ha) ;-)
GrandmaBarb! He's so very handsome! That shine looks good! When I was active duty Army medic, the OIC of our clinic had a contest every week for who had the best shine on our footwear! LOL!!! Guess who won every week? LOL Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
Carrie..it's not so much "wisdom" here....it's LONGEVITY. I'm so old, probably have seen it or done it...or watched it...or wanted to do it....ha.
I truly believe my service in the Marines did a lot for my knowledge base about all things Military...and just want to pass it along to sooth fears, or dispel myths, etc.
Thanks for the compliments on my darling Munchkin.
Too Tall. I get the Marine thing with shoes. Having served in that outfit, a proud wearer of the EGA, shoes were almost an obsession.
Back in those days, your new shoes were brown leather...untreated. You were expected to bring them up to mirrored black in just a short time;.
Sometimes, the DI's would hold "strip day" where we had to strip the shoes back down to "new" condition and start all over again....ha. Nothing like Recruit Discipline to grow ya up in a hurry.
hi everyone, just wanted to pop in and say hello. GrandmaBarB, love the pictures of your handsome Sailor. Hope you all are doing well. been busy and going a little crazy at work. LOL amazing what can happen with a new boss who doesn't know how to do her job... Hope you all have a good weekend.
GrandmaBarB,,,I want to thank you for ALL your Marine Services to this Country and your Longevity of knowledges, experiences, encouragement that we can still do :-) (hilarious) it if we put our minds to it! I'm glad I'm one of the Bless one to received this in my spirit what you pass on and I promise you, I will pass it along that GrandmaBarB said:......., has I continue to walk on my Journey of Devine Destiny! (Greatness) You are a GEM that sparkler (light the pathway for ppl to see without fear)! I truly feel Honor to have met you! Thank you!!!! :-)
Carrie.....thanks again for your kind words. The Pennsylvania Dutch have an old saying, one that rings true. It is: "We get too soon old, and too late smart". I've always tried to keep a step or two ahead of that....ha.
One of the best things about the aging process (and there are many), is the learning experience that comes to those who pay attention.
I love the Marine Corps. It is true, once a Marine, always a Marine and am so proud of serving with them and being a part of the best fighting force in the world. It was one of the hardest things I ever did, becoming a Marine. By the time Boot Camp was over, we knew EXACTLY who we were and what we were capable of accomplishing. I'm not quite as active in the organizations of Marines as I used to be...but still hold my membership in the Women Marines Association proudly and support the Marine Corps Leager, Toys for Tots, etc.
Catsmom....thanks for the compliments. Like all of us, I;'m so proud of my Munchkin, the Sailor and what he is doing. And, he is a handsome devil, for sure....and unaffected by it except for the ladies....who fall all over him....ha.....
Good morning Sunshines! I just wanted to send you all prayers and well wishes today and forever! I know it'll be Thanksgiving and Christmas leave time for our Sailors and Marines. Sending prayers for safe travels and fun!
My Girl Crystal at the Navy Ball last Friday Night, She is in the middle. hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. been so buys, sorry for not posting much.
To all you moms with Sons or Daughters on the Truman.
My husband and I would like to extend an invitation to any of them who don't have anywhere to go for Thanksgiving or for Christmas to come join us for dinner on those days. We have been in Va. Bch for the last 14 years inviting sailors, marines and soldiers over to our house on the weekends for food and board games. We understand that the holidays are the hardest because some of them can't go home. So please let us know if any of your "kids" would be interested.
If anyone happens to know the name of a good neighborhood/area for my son and new bride to locate in (apartments or otherwise), I'd appreciate the info. Once he gets there my understanding is that he'll be on a ship (in port) for a week or so, then gets a week to find housing. They have no kids, so don't need to worry about schools, etc… but safety is important as it is with all our families. Secrets22, it seems like you just did the looking/relocating. Any info would be great. Seems like they will be bringing her dog though. Might make it a tad more challening. Thanks everyone.
If your daughter isn't going home for Thanksgiving we would be happy to invite her to come over to our house. We also invite the sailors over on the weekends for food, board games, movies, and a home to hang out in. Let us know if she would be interested.
My son is IT and lives off base in an apartment with his new wife... But if he can help (only been there since 1st of December), I'm sure he'd be happy to. Let me know.
Hi all. My son texted last night & he got orders to the Truman. He graduates nuclear prototype on 1/23 & has to report by 2/26. We live in SoCal. Looking forward to any tips you can share!
My ET son graduates A school 2/20 - has chosen the USS Truman. No official orders yet, and still has C school, but thought I'd join anyway. Hi! B'sNuke!!!!
My sailor heard from his ship sponsor so now he knows when/where/what uniform to report in next week. We sure have been trying to make the most of his 30 days leave! Can't believe he leaves next week.....argh....slow down the time please!
Talked to my daughter this evening & she is so happy that they are getting snow. She misses the snow. She told me they they cancelled work for tomorrow. She is excited for the snow day
We love and miss the snow too! So, hurray for the snow! It's always so beautiful.
Do you think your daughter would be interested in coming over to our house on the weekends? We have several who come from the Truman and other ships and also schools commands at Dam Neck. We'd love for her to join us.
Yvonne I have told her about you offering for her to come over. She just got married july a year ago. So usually on weekends she loves to clean house, bake, cook big meals, & she goes to church on Sunday. Her husband works at a shipyard & is going to school so they don't have much free time. But thank you for the offer.
Enjoy your snow, I got a snow day today & love the freshness of it. So peaceful & serene
Yes, enjoy the snow. It's going to be 80 degrees where we live. Have not had a winter this year. :( I have not even used my NEW coat! Maybe next year...
I saw on the FB page that they shut down the base due to the weather - only non-essential personnel were to report. We are hoping that sailor doesn't have any issues flying out on Thursday. He leaves SoCal & flies back to NY (Ballston Spa) to get his car & then drives to VA on Friday. It looks like the weather will be warming up there by the end of the week.
He reports to VA next week. He's been enjoying our SoCal weather (Navymom2 - we are in Riverside!) and has been trying to soak up as much sunshine as possible while home.
He and his buddy are looking at apartments at Midtown @ TownCenter in VA Beach. Anyone know anything about those apartments? Good/bad/otherwise?
Lol you guys missing snow! I soo wish I can send you some- I'm in Northern Indiana we have ENOUGH already. Lol I'm thankful I'm not in Boston. :)
My sailor takes his last A school test today! He is nervouse about it.
Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. My son just got to the USS TRUMAN a little over a week ago. His adjusting well. He says people have been nice to him and have taken him under their wing. We are from Chicago so he is use to the cold and snow. However his A school was in Pensecola so I know his missing the nice weather.
Hi all. Trying to help my son and daughter-in-law (but staying out of their way) finding ombudsmen info to maybe be in touch with. The ones on the Navy site are bad. First 3 come up with some sex stuff on it (yep) and the other links bounce back as undeliverable. They have been there since November (him) and December (her). They were married in November, she moved down first of December and she is now (yep again) pregnant. Early and has lots of morning sickness. They are in an apartment in Virginia Beach. She is very homesick and misses her family and friends. It's starting to affect things already. I'm desperate for them to go to a FRG meeting (which he says they are looking into) and make friends and find support (especially for her). I guess they're not good at reaching out. ANY ideas, help, links, etc. would be sooo appreciated. He's loving the snow right now as he was born and raised in Buffalo (where I am and very cold). Thanks for letting me vent and reach out.
JacobMom - good luck to your sailor on his test today!
BoomMom - I hope you find some good info that you can share with us.....I would be interested in the ombudsmen & FRG stuff too. I hope your DIL feels better soon.....
letyrod - glad your son is adjusting well. Mine gets there next week & I'm sure he'll be fine too - he's pretty outgoing...

Good morning! My sailor is now officially an ET! He passed his test with an 86 - not great but he passed. Lol Now we are waiting to hear about the graduation on Friday. I know it isn't a big deal but we are close so we are going to everything we can, while we can. Norfolk will be a 12-13 hour drive compared to 2 1/2 to Great Lakes. More crazy lake effect snow, wind and fridgid temps today and early tomorrow. I hope it clears up before we have to get on the road late afternoon tomorrow.
Good morning Jacob94mom & congrats to your son & I'm glad your able to go to graduation. I would go too living that close. We are to get more snow today (not much), wind again, & temp drop down to below 0 again by tomorrow. Stay safe driving & enjoy the time with your son while you have him close
Well, it's been awhile since I've visited my soul sisters here...and what a time it has been.
First, welcome to all the "newbies" here. You've come to the right place to get information, sympathy, joy or whatever you need concerning our Sailors and their Ship.
To old friends....since last I posted, my wonderful Grandson has made Petty Officer 3, and, most important, go married to the sweetest woman. I have to keep saying to myself "My Munchkin is married, my Munchkin is married"...and it still hasn't settled into my brain yet.
Had lunch with him on Sunday...he ran home for the week end to visit with new bride and family. It's about a 4 hour drive but he doesn't mind. He also got a CAR last year...a sweet Honda, electric blue and cute as heck. He looks so wonderful and has grown up so much in the 3 years he's been in the Navy. My joy is endless.
GrandmaBarB - what a fine looking sailor you have there! BZ to him on his marriage, his new car & on making PO3.
JacobMom - woohoo! BZ to your sailor on passing his final exam. I hope you are able to make it to the graduation - be careful & safe travels!
too tall Joan - thanks for posting those #'s for the ombudsman. So tell me, for what reasons would we contact them? Is this just something that I pass on to my son or do parents ever have a reason to contact them (I just want to make sure that when the time comes for deployment that I am on whatever email list I need to be on to get updates!). This part is all new to me LOL.
Hey Too Tall. Thanks. He is doing sooooo good...sooo proud of him.
I have sent request for housing to Maui....4/ places...all with waiting lists. Soooooooo.....a waiting game ensues. Still mixed feelings....love living in NJ....but sometimes, one must make decisions based on reality.....ha
