Sea Salt - that's so cute that your daughter loved Theodore the Tugboat LOL! The video is pretty cool - I just imagine my son on there and it makes me feel good! He's sent a few pictures from a couple of the underways & it's nice to see a little of what's going on - even if it is just wide open ocean!
Today is my son's 22nd bday and the first one he has been away from us... I got the present today when he said he snuck away and placed a quick call.. missing my son today. :(
SusanB, happy birthday to your son. Glad you got to talk to him on such a special day. My son turns 21 in November, hope to have him sometime close to that date so we can celebrate. God bless your son and everyone on the Truman.
I see many of your sailors have celebrated birthdays recently. :) For any of you who don't know us, my husband and I invite any sailors who want to, to come over to our home on the weekends, where we feed them, play board games with them and we even have birthday parties for them. So, if any of you think your son or daughter would like to join us, please let them know about us. We can pm you our cell number if you like. :)

There is a very nice photo of the hornet taking off and some crew on deck.. You might be able to recognize your sailors if you zoom in.. I tried to copy the photo but it didn't come across... Ill try again
Jacobmom - if your son arrives the end of July there's a good chance he'll have to be flown out then. They have been very, very busy.....(did I say very busy!).
Keep fingers crossed my sailor can take some time off to visit us. We are heading to see her end of July! She requested it off, but didn't hear a confirmation before this last underway. I miss her so much!
Just heard from my girl on the Truman - she LOVES the Navy Rack Pack I had sent to her and she said the other females in her berthing wants one - so be warned parents! :) Full of pockets and keeps their bunk dark to sleep
Also, my gal asked for time off when we are there end of July (she requested it 2 months ago) - during this last underway she was denied since too many will be taking time off. We are still planning on going, but won't be able to visit with her until 18:00 hours every day. and then she starts at 4:00 every morning. :( Sad mama
I also saw some comfort pads on website called rack sheets. they also have locker organizers and flannel sheets. Is the Ship cold? Will she need or want flannel sheets come winter?
So excited that we get to visit our sailor next week!!! We just found out on Saturday (after coming home from a weeks vacation) that he has leave so now I am madly trying to book hotel/air. Thankfully hubby & I both were able to get time off work - now just waiting to see if college son can get off work to join us. Long trip from CA to VA but it will be soooo worth it ;-) And I'm looking forward to getting a ship tour - sure hope we can make that happen!
Any idea if our sailors need civilian passports? I know their military IDs can be used for passports, but I am hearing conflicting answers if they should also get a civilian passport in case they go site seeing. My sailor said they do not need them. Other Navy Moms said they do. Where can I get the correct answer?
Sea Salt - my sailor got his passport back in January per the request of his command. I think it just makes life easier for them to travel around when they are in ports. I would say for your sailor to get it - he may never need it, but if only one time he does it's better to have it!
Unfortunately, my sailor is stubborn and if her command said she doesn't need it, she's not going to get it. I can't tell her either way; I'm just a Mom.
She'll probably never need it, but if the time comes when she does she'll sure wish she had it (when her friends take off for sightseeing & she can't go 'cuz for some reason they require it! or if she had to come home for an emergency - heaven forbid - and she's not traveling with her ship). You can always say "I told you so!" lol
Hi all. My sailor will be heading to the Truman in just a few weeks. One more week of C school! Is there a schedule of any sorts available or do I need to wait until he is actually there to give my info to the ombudsman
I'm confused (again). I'm 100% new at all this military stuff - what does JAcob94mom mean by giving her info to the ombudsman? What do we need to give to them and who is the ombudsman?
Sea Salt - there is a monthly newsletter that the FRG (Family Readiness Group) puts out. Your sailor has to give them the info to add your email to the list. Here's the info that I had found & my son did and we are now added.
They have to do it from their ship email. Here's what's needed: "They need an email from your CVN75 account with your PRD date, your name and email, your relationship and, if you are in Hampton Roads - what city? The request should be sent to: communications.Trumanfrg@gmail.com". I just forwarded that exact info to my son & he took care of it. This is to get the monthly newsletter.
I haven't quite figured out the ombudsman stuff yet (or even if that is different). I'll be seeing my sailor next week so I'm going to ask him more about that!
Dear B'sNukeMoM, You did it again. I'm not on the internet very much because I live in Minnesnowta and right now we can be outside without freezing fingers and toes, PLUS we don't have to spend 10 minutes getting outer clothes on to go outside :)
SOOOO! clicked on something and the cute daisy doggie came up and I just laughed out loud! Maybe because I think I'm coming to THIS page and it surprises me? Anyway ... YOU got me. Then I found this page and the chimp just cracked me up all over again.
Counting down the days 'till we head to VA - busy weekend ahead!
Kohl's is having a big sale online (plus I have a 20% coupon) & I found a mattress topper that I think I'm going to order & send to my sailor. I'm hoping it will arrive while we are there so we can look at it & make sure he likes it. If not I can return it for him and figure something else out. Plus he can open it up & let it sit in his apartment to "air out". Some of the reviews talk about a smell that they seem to have (but they say it does go away!). We shall see....
Jacobmom - we just got back from VA & our sailor gave us a tour of the Truman. It's quite easy to get lost lol! We wandered around & around & up & down & in & out & over & around.....even got to see the berthing area. Wow - it's a beautiful carrier. It was hotter than heck & very humid but I wouldn't trade it for anything. So awesome to see where my sailor spends so much of his time. The picture above is us up on the flight deck. If you ever get a chance to visit make sure you get a tour!
Very disappointed in my trip to see my daughter in VA this past week. 1) she is not my daughter anymore, she's more sailor which I do not like. Mouthy, rude, drinking, losing her way 2) no guidance so she has a car, a paycheck and doing what she pleases 3) couldn't get a tour of the Truman due to security issues on Wed and Thurs. She had to work Fri, sat, sun so we left Friday morning. I hope the next visit we have with her is more pleasant. :( Feeling depressed. I'm in WI, she's in VA with no adult guidance. Following the wrong crowd aboard the Truman.
Thanks for the Ombudsman info! My sailor gal never heard of them. Oh and to add to my depressing comment a few moments ago, her BFF came with us on this trip along with her little sister. Neither one of them cares if they ever see her again on how her attitude was with us. She said that's how Navy talks and acts. I don't believe her. I pray each day she finds her way back to who she was.
