TTJ- Like you, we get our sailor home soon for family time, yay!!

JackRussellMom- that's you on the left?

1Bodyprof-glad you introduced yourself homecoming day! The navy mom tag was a great idea, it really worked.

Made it home safe and sound! My one else drive out Sunday? The traffic was crazy! Had a great time. We went to Jamestown and Va. Beach.
We spent most of Saturday waiting for my sailors housing paperwork and keys. He will live on the ship until he comes home and buys a truck in two weekS.
It was awesome meeting he other moms and yes, that's me on the far right. :)
Prayers for our police and military. A mom on the Facebook page said her MA son was threatened at the gate yesterday.
Three days home hen back in the road to Myrtle Beach. Trading my navy mom shirts for cheerleader Nana shirt!

My husband is about to finish training but will be with the USS Harry S. Truman once he gets to the fleet. So I have a couple of questions about deployment. Was it fairly difficult to communicate while you're loved ones were deployed? And also since they just got back about how long will it be until the ship deploys again? Just a general time frame. My husband said about 14 months.. Thank you!

    Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Talked to my son yesterday - he said the weather in Virginia is miserable right now - very hot & humid (which is normal for this time of year!).  We are getting the heat here in SoCal right now too, but thankfully ours is a dry heat lol!  He said he was at the homecoming last week & there were even a few people that passed out from the heat.  Yikes!

Glad you made it home safe & sound Jacobmom!  I too saw the FB story about the MA that was threatened at the gate.  What is wrong with people these days?!

Kelsie my son said the Bush is getting ready for the next deployment (the Ike replaced the Truman).  The Truman will do any repairs needed from this deployment and then they'll be getting ready for whenever the next deployment is.  Remember not to discuss specific dates!

Your husband will have his Navy email and you'll be able to email him on deployment.  He won't always respond right away but eventually he will get them.  Also when they are in areas where they have wifi you can use different apps to chat.  WhatsApp is a good one - that's what my son & I used.  I know there are others too....

Safe travels to Myrtle Beach Jacobmom!

Good Morning N4Ms...I have a question for anyone that has a child that started college classes while still on active duty.  My son is thinking of taking some classes at ODU and would like any advise on the process.  Thanks for the support!!

  • John and Yvonne

    Moms,

Now that your sailors are back here safe and sound, my husband and I would like to let you know that we open our home on the weekends and invite them to come over for food and board games; mini golfing(which we did last Saturday evening) .  My husband spent 20 years in: 10 enlisted and 10 as a Navy Chaplain. So these sailors are in our hearts!. Please let them know about us. If any of you would like our cell number we can pm it to you. :)

    Hi all - Happy Thursday!

I borrowed this from "Letters to Bootcamp" on FB.

    Have a good day!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

John & Yvonne - that is so nice that you do this for the sailors!  A big thank you to you & your husband for your continued support ;-)

wmg4 - sorry no one has responded to your question yet.  My son is out of the navy now & getting ready to start college and he has gotten help from the VA counselors at the college (he will be going to ODU eventually).  He should ask his command who he should talk to or if he has time take a drive over to ODU.  My son said they were very helpful over there.  It's great that he is starting classes while he is still in!

  • wmg4

Thanks - B'sNukeMoM⚓️MM  I figured everyone is busy with their sailors being home.  My son comes home next week, I guess I will be MIA then too :)  Love the letter.

Hi all, loved seeing the pics with your pins! I met one mom quickly as we waited for our sailors to get off the ship. Wasn't it you 1bodyproof? Funny thing, when I was in the hotel in VA, and my sailor was asleep in the next bed, I actually caught myself not going to the restroom without my phone! I made myself crack up...that will be a hard habit to break! I will get my sailor back home in a few weeks too. So excited.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Friday!

Lol Bernapet - that's funny with the phone ;-)

I hope you all are enjoying visits with your sailors - or getting ready to!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  • 1Bodyprof

Bernapet: We did meet as I was leaving the pier with my sailor!
What a zoo! We waited in the parking lot for 1 hour before we were able to leave. Thankfully the car air conditioning worked!
Had such a great visit with our sailor. His leave is next month. It will be good to have him home. Meanwhile, he and a friend just got an apartment off base. Exciting!
So glad it will be much easier to talk/text with him. Seems like those with computer/communication jobs on ship had much better chance to send emails, etc., back home.
I hear it will be quite some time before the Truman has a deployment again. Works for me!
  • Bernapet

Hey everyone...yes, speaking of goodie bags...(guess I saw it on a different group)...but it got me thinking. I did a bunch for the Truman last year, but because the Truman is home, how will we find out which ship everyone is making goodie bags for? I'm already starting to collect fun stuff!
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Just popping in to say hi and happy Wednesday!

  • Redsmom

Bernapet, tell me more about the goodie bags.  How can I help?  what needs to be collected?

Saw this today and made me proud!  http://www.businessinsider.com/video-chinas-nightmare-pacific-2016-...

  • Bernapet

Hi Redsmom, I followed 'navy for mom's 7th annual holiday project'(on facebook) last year. There is also a spot on Navy for moms somewhere. Last year the Truman was chosen, so their goal was 1,000's of goodie bags so everyone got one. My mom and and I did 50. We included stuff like snacks, baseball cap, slim jims, hot coco, stationary, pens, Christmas themed things as well. A special address will be sent out for the packages to go to. They usually pick a boat that is deployed. It really puts you in the Chrismas spirit, and I got emails back from sailors who got our bags...it was so neat. I bet we will see something in the next month or so on Navy for moms. I have started collecting now, (mini sewing kits) I found at a great price.
  • Redsmom

Thank you, Bernapet!  I will think on this and watch for ideas!  Please let me know when/where you see current info.

I noticed the new discussion forum has been started for Family Day.  Anyone know anything about this?

  • Bernapet

Had my sailor home for a week, he left Sunday. Yep, my mom heart hurts, but he is so excited about what he's doing, it makes it all easier.  These sailors are so proud to serve their country, it is so amazing.  What a great bunch!  The base activities for a new sailors are not so fun, but my sailor is ok with it all.  They all have to put in their time.  So proud! I thought this time would be easier when he left....not! :-)  Stay strong moms!

  • Navymom2

Bernapet:  So glad you had your Anthony home. Same here. Yes, so proud of all our sailors! So hard on our mother's heart saying goodbye but remember, they are just fine.

  • Bernapet

    Prayers out to our sailors!
  • BoomMom

Bernapet... Something going on other than the normal we are all aware of?

  • Bernapet

Not sure what I can say, but nothing bad.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is doing well ;-)

My son & his GF are puppy sitting for a friend while she's on an underway.  His GF sent me this picture of him yesterday.  He was taking the puppy out for a potty break & the ground was hot so he carried her.  Too cute!

  • JGMom

    Adorable!

  • 1Bodyprof

Had the sailor here for 12 days! It was awesome!!
  • My sailor My son

Just found this group ... I have been a mess, sent a package for the first time back on August 6th, still not there yet...my son kept sending me text telling me he hadn't got it yet...all of a sudden the text stop. His phone goes straight to voice mail and no word from him... worried sick mom here!
    Please,advice
  • Devinsmom

My sailor my son they are underway this week. Try him this weekend. I have started sending my packages ups store to store it works out so much better when they are at home port the store calls him when it gets there and he goes and picks it up
  • Bernapet

I haven't sent anything to the ship since they came in, was wondering if it was going to take less time. I like the UPS store idea Devinsmom. My sailor My son...I actually told my sailor "NOT" to use his phone this week, it could be extra charges. I am sure you will better luck this weekend for sure! :-)
  • DonnaEricsMom

Devinsmom, I'm curious about that UPS store or where to send things in general.  I'm guessing that it takes a very long time to receive packages on base?  My son hasn't found out the information and his birthday is next month.  How does the UPS store to store work out?

  • DonnaEricsMom

Am I able to ask on this what an underway is?  If not can someone PM me and explain?  My son's only been a part of the Truman since May.  Thanks

  • Devinsmom

I took the stuff to my local ups store told that I needed to send it to my son in va for him to pick up at the store. He had sent me the address to the one close to the base. They packed it for me and all. I mailed it on a Monday from Mississippi and he picked it up that Thursday. Packaging, shipping, insurance on 18 pounds of stuff cost me $40. When it got there they called him and told him it was there. They need to pick it up that if can because they will charge $5 per day for storage. I had a good deal of insurance on it because I send his ps to him. You get a tracking number to keep up with it to. So much faster and easier being I did not have to pack it.
  • My sailor My son

I would like to know asxwell, what does underway mean
  • DonnaEricsMom

Thank you Devinsmom, I'll talk to my son about this option.

  • Devinsmom

The ups store on tidewater is the closest to the base just make sure you have that address with you when you go to your local store. Glad I could help
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

An underway is when the ship goes out for a short run.  Usually doing testing, qualifications, etc.  Sometimes they last 3 days sometimes a week or even longer - they can vary depending on what needs to be done.

  • My sailor My son

Thank you all for calming my nerves....my son just joined the ship in July. We are both new,and learning our way!!! Thank you
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Don't worry My sailor My son - just remember no news is good news!

    And welcome to you!

  • DonnaEricsMom

    Thank you

  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

Hello everyone, it's Dorie. Just remember the ship will move. Not sure when and where and can't say here anyway. Check with your Sailor.
I'm just happy they are safe.
  • jbird

    Hello Truman family!

Dorie you're reminding me that I've got to see the movie, I've heard nothing but great things about it. Glad to find you here! ha ha.

My sailor my son-awww I know how you feel about now, we all do. All is well, you'll hear from your sailor soon and little by little you'll get to know the ropes. This is the place to be, lots of wonderful moms. I was surprised they're underway this quick. Actually I believe maintenance will be happening too, could be en route. Glad to hear of nice reunions with sailors home.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Saw some pics on FB of the Friends & Family Cruise from Sunday.  Looks like a good time was had by all - and saw at the end there was a little problem with the weather & getting the ship back in - yikes!

My son started college yesterday - so now on to the next journey for him.  He called and said it went well - chemistry & calculus for his first day lol!

    Hope everyone is doing well.....

  • Devinsmom

Has anyone heard from their sailor today after the storm went thur. I have tried to call mine several times and it goes straight to voicemail.
  • BoomMom

I am IN Virginia Beach and all is fine here...  A bit windy and rainy but nothing substantial.  Able to drive to the store, etc.

  • Devinsmom

    Thanks boom mom
  • Redsmom

Thanks BoomMom!  What a relief!  I don't know when to check in with mine because of the odd hours he is working!

  • jbird

    Hi!

I talked with mine yesterday and he said some street flooding at intersections but all good otherwise.

  • DonnaEricsMom

I'm sure this question has been ask before, but I can't seem to find it.  I've asked my son, who's on the Truman, what address I can send mail. He has know idea, I think, even where to begin.  Can anyone help me?

Does he have an on board mailing address?  He's single and lives on base right now, so would his mail be address to that address?

Or where he would find out this information?

  • jbird

    Hi DonnaEricsMom-

With the ship being home your son should have his own mailing address on base. The only base mine lived on was when he was at Nuke school in SC, before the Truman,  and I'm pretty sure he had a PO box on base. He should be receiving other mail, I'd guess, so if he doesn't he should find out his proper mailing address. I'm sure someone else may know more about Naval base mail details. I'm sure he'll get it sorted out soon but may need your prompting mom!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Well my son is in his 4th week of college classes and so far he's enjoying it!  He said the calculus class takes up the most time but he found a study group to join so all is well ;-)

He fell longboarding over labor day weekend and separated his shoulder so he's been dealing with that.  The ER dr put it in a sling and he can't see a dr at the veteran's hospital until October 18th!  That's a little frustrating but nothing he can do about it.

    Hope everyone is well!

  • Carol Ann

BNuke's Mom: Glad to hear update about your son and how he's doing! VA hospital unfortunately is backed up-probably why the wait. Meanwhile he has to be in pain-so very sorry to hear this. Hopefully it's something that will heal quickly and not cause a lot of pain. Best of luck to him and you Momma!
