My son is finally in the barracks and out of the shipyards holding areas! He is thrilled!
Hoping he gets to take leave in January. It's our first Christmas apart.
Merry Christmas to all and God bless our sailors!
Merry Christmas! Enjoy seeing your sailors, you lucky families! This is our first Christmas apart and to make it rougher (on a mom) it is my sailor's b-day as well! Those (like me) who will be apart, isn't that why there is facetime, etc.? For the sailors remaining, I'm hoping there will be some friends around with whom to enjoy the holidays and make the best of their situation with one another!
If your son doesn't already have plans for Christmas, we would be happy to invite him over to our home. We have sailors over every weekend as well as holidays. Most of the sailors who come over have gone home for Christmas, but we do have 2 sailors who are coming over. I can pm you our cell number if he's interested! :)

P.S. Checkout our page on this site to know more about us and what we do. :) And have a Merry Christmas!
Hi all - just checking in to see how everyone is doing? We had a nice Christmas - B came home for an extended visit and his girlfriend came too (she was also a Navy girl but is out now). We went to the zoo, the beach, Las Vegas, San Diego, visited with family/friends and just had a wonderful time! Unfortunately the time went by way too fast. He's back in VA now, started his next semester of college and so far so good with everything. I hope everyone is doing well and that 2017 has been good to you thus far!
John and Yvonne, so sorry not to respond at Christmas! I never saw your post until today! Odd! Thank you for the generous offer. He managed to do "his own thing" for the holidays!
That's ok! We would like to invite him to come over on the weekends with other sailors who come over. On Saturday evenings we get together in our home at 5:00 pm and eat together and play board games. We also do outdoor activities when the weather is warm. :) On Sundays we gather together at 1:00 for a home cooked meal. (homemade bread, dessert and of course the meal. ) Sometimes we just get to know each other, watch movies, etc, If you think he would be interested let us know and we can pm you our cell number. :)
I need some help or advise. My dad passed away last night. I called the Red Cross to report it so they can tell my son. I still have not heard from my son. I can not sleep until I know he knows and I have been up for 24 hours now. Is there any easier way to let him know so that I can get him on his way home. I have called the Red Cross back and they say a message was sent to the ship last night.
Devinsmom, I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost my dad and I understand just how tough that is. I have no experience with the Navy on this, but here are my thoughts. Does your son have an apartment? Do you know what shift he works? I imagine/hope they will tell him face-to-face when he reports to work and help him get bereavement leave arranged.
I am so very sorry to read this @devinsmom. My father-in-law was dying while the ship was deployed. I messaged the Red Cross, emailed the ship, sent a message on the Facebook page and although it did take a few days, my son was able to call and speak to his grandfather in hospice room. I sincerely hope your son gets the message soon. Please take care of yourself. Prayers for you and your family.
Devinsmom, I am so very sorry to hear about your dad. I have no further suggestions - the Red Cross and the Ombudsman will hopefully get in touch with him ASAP. Hugs to you and your family.
Hi everyone, it's Dorie, It seems like forever now since we went to Norfolk for the homecoming. That must mean time is flying by. I hope everyone is doing well. I do have constant contact with my daughter, which is a real blessing. I also have a son overseas presently and pray everyday he and his troop are safe as well as all our troops serving. I work at Lowe's and see Military come in all the time, I always tell them and anyone in uniform, Thank you for serving our country. Never be afraid to tell them. All I can say is 2018 will be a great year for me because if all goes as planned both of them will be State side and she will come home to California.
It's great to have support from all of you. Life is good!
Hi all - just checking in. We are heading to VA to visit our son in August! (He's out now and going to college.) I wish it could be a different time of the year but he's taking a summer class so there wasn't a lot of times to choose from.
Hi Friends! I hope everyone is well and planning to have a good summer, albeit the weather certainly doesn't make me feel like summer is just around the corner! I was just reflecting how infrequently I'm on N4M now and how, during deployment, we couldn't seem to go a couple of hours without being here for one another. I know that time will circle around again for all of us, but for now I'm thankful that we are busy and able to breathe knowing our family and friends can be reached with a simple phone call! Miss you all! Send up a flare once in a while!
Hard to believe that B is finishing up his first year of college. Has finals this week in Calculus, Physics and Engineering! (Better him than me lol!). He's loving life after the Navy. We are still planning our trip to VA in August - still need to book it ~ just watching prices on flights!
Today is my hubby's birthday and B got tickets for them to go to Lambeau Field for a Packer game in October! Hubby is a huge cheesehead (as is B). Can't wait to see the look on his face tonight when he opens his card :D Definitely a bucket list item for them both.
I can't go on this site anymore at work, so wanted to make sure I said hi to all the moms, and happy mothers day. I have my sailor home this week. A wonderful treat for me. I know the Truman is gearing up...not looking forward to not being able to call my sailor whenever I want. Hope all is well with all my favorite moms! Have a great week!
Navymamma76 - this group has been a little quiet lately but there's a few of us that check in periodically. My son is no longer on the Truman - and no longer in the Navy for that matter! - but I stick around :)
HAPPY FRIDAY NAVY MOMS! :) Yes, we are all a little quiet as our sailors are not on deployment. Just means we are all busy with end of school year activities, graduations, retirements, vacations, etc. Everyone have a GREAT weekend...
I know that your sons or daughters are on deployment right now, but when they return please let them know about us. My husband and I invite sailors over to our home on the weekends. On Saturday evening at 5:00-9:00 we eat together and play board games, go mini golfing and other outdoor activities when we can and on Sundays we get together at 1:00 for a sit down Sunday meal. My husband spent 20 years in the Navy- 10 enlisted and 10 as a Navy Chaplain.
If you want to know more about us, go to our page on this site.
My heart continues to hurt for these sailors and their families. Please take a moment to remember each of them and continue to pray for peace for all on the USS Fitzgerald and for the US Navy. I am so very sorry. Fair winds and following seas.....

Saw on the news where the Navy (USS John Paul Jones) had a successful test to intercept & destroy a missile with a missile! Wow!
In a different article, I saw where USS Truman is on schedule. The article said if they stay on track, sea trials could begin this summer.

If you want to donate there are a few ways to help out:
First you can donate directly to the Red Cross and indicate your donation is for the USS Fitzgerald.
Second you can send items directly to the USS Fitzgerald - toiletries, clothing or cards - use the "If it fits, it ships" military boxes:
USS FITZGERALD
Unit 100173 BOX 1
FPO AP 96665
Or you can go to the group here on N4M: Molly's Adopt a Sailor:
http://navyformoms.ning.com/group/mollysadoptasailorproject/forum/t...
The Navy has advised that you use caution with Go Fund Me pages as these (unfortunately) may not be legitimate.
