    Good morning!
  • jbird

Hi Red's mom and everyone! There are definately "seasons" when we gather here.Good to see the Truman back up and running again. My sailor son served his time and chose not to reenlist so like b'snuke mom I'll check in and say hi from time to time. It is hard to just leave, especially after a couple deployments and getting to know people both here and at homecoming (one of the most exciting days of our lives).

I hope everyone is doing well

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

jbird - wow!  Please thank your son for his service from me. Does he know what his plans are yet? And you definitely don't need to leave ~ Once a Navy Mom, always a Navy Mom!

I'm excited - we are heading to VA on Wednesday to see B!  Can't wait.  He's getting ready to start his 2nd year of college at the end of August.  So far things are going well - he even made the Dean's Honor List last semester lol!  He had a bit of a mishap a couple of weeks ago - they had a big storm in VA and he got caught in it.  Flooded his engine on his car and the insurance totaled it out :(  Luckily it was worth more than he owed on it so he ended up with about $4000 so now he's looking for a used car to replace it.  If anyone knows of a decent vehicle (with AC) please let me know!  Another Navy mom has a son who is going to Japan so he might have a vehicle for sale and we are hoping to look at it while we are there....

Hope everyone is doing well!  I saw the Truman got a new CO too.

Hi everyone! Facebook reminded me with our group photos that is been a year already since several of us were there for homecoming! Now they are getting back to business for the next deployment.
My sailor will be home next week for a few days! It's a change of plans for him. His fiancé can't make it to see him, her poor dog has cancer and is having half his jaw removed this week. So he is coming here instead. Yay for me!
My bugles news is I have a new grandbaby! Not my sailors but my Air Force vet sons. She will be three weeks tomorrow. Sadly I won't see her until mid October. Pictures and FaceTime for now.
  • JackRussellMom

Nice to see all these familiar names again. Hope everyone is well. I can't believe it's a year ago we were at homecoming. My son is still with the Truman and doing well thank Goodness. Wishing all of you and your sailors the best!

    really good to chat again..

Jacob94mom-that is wonderful news, congratulations! It must be hard to be separated but October is right around the corner. I just found out our oldest son, not navy, is now engaged. I'm so happy for him. Actually the girl's dad is who discovered my son (via golf lessons, my son is a teaching pro) and spent lots of time with him and decided he'd be a good hubby for his daughter. They have so much in common it's crazy.. Anyway, they met and the rest is history.

Sheis22-I'm looking at your post wondering if we met at homecoming but then I saw your name! Ha ha, were you ever found? I still need to see that movie, have heard great reviews.

B's-aww thank you! Sailor son has landed an incredible job in Maryland. One requirement was navy nuke which he had so he went right to work after his Navy time. He had gone to college before Navy, gained some college credit in the Navy and will probably at some point finish up for his bachelors. I like how you put it, once a navy mom always a navy mom. No doubt!

Hello jackrussell mom and wondertwin, redsmom and welcome to new moms!

  • Redsmom

Congrats all on pending nuptials, new jobs, babies, and school graduations!  Sounds like everyone is well and doing fine!  Very good to hear!

Sounds like the Truman is starting to hum along!  I'm hoping to see my sailor soon.  He is still working out how he is going to use his leave, but the plan is to see family, even if it winds up being only for a few days.

Hope everyone has a good week!

  • jbird

I'm glad you have that visit with your sailor to look forward to, that's exciting!

    Hope everyone is doing well

    hope everyone is doing well.

  • Bernapet

I don't know how I got through 8 months...these little cruises are really getting to me! :-(

  • Redsmom

Well I did the road trip to see my sailor!  Had him all to myself for 2 days then his gf joined us for a day.  Took him to VA Beach so he felt like he actually had a vacation.  Had awesome seafood while there!  Best short vacation I've had in years!

Trip was actually double duty as I brought all his stuff that won't fit in his space on the ship!

Bernapet, I hear you!  It is rough, but da mamas are tough!  Ha!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

Redsmom - we were in VA from 8/2-8/12.  Had a blast visiting with B and his GF also visited us for part of the time.  If any of you have time when you are there you need to stop by the Mermaid Factory.  We took a girls trip there and had a blast. You paint your own mermaid (or dolphin).  It's so much fun. Mine is the red, white & blue one (of course lol!).  You can't really tell unless you zoom in but mine is covered in glitter.  I love it :)

  • Redsmom

The mermaids are so cute!  Sounds like you had a great visit too, B'sNukeMom!  You were there a bit ahead of me and had a longer visit too.  Mine was short & sweet - 5 days total but 2 were all day drives!

I hope they see the solar eclipse!  It was fabulous!!!

  • WonderTwins'mom

@ jbird... Hello to you too :)

I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do. I haven't been too active here. A bit too much going on at home. Still thinking of my babies every day <3

  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

Hi Ladies, it's Dorie.  I thought I would have contact today with me Sailor, but I guess not.  Waiting patiently to hear from her.  I hope everyone is doing well.

  • Bernapet

Yes, I was hoping to hear from my sailor too Dorie.

  • Redsmom

I wasn't expecting to hear anything yet.

  • Bernapet

I am thinking my sailor was way off on how long this trip was or something else came up.  Just a worried sailor mom!  How am I going to do another 7-8 months?? :-)

  • WonderTwins'mom

    Are they due back tomorrow?
  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

We shall see!  What's with 7-8 months?

  • Redsmom

The next deployment. And Bernapet, just like last time, we will get through this together!

  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

Oh of course. I'm not sure my Sailor will be on that deployment,  but time will tell. I will keep you posted.

  • Proud mama

I just heard from my son. The ship just got in. You should hopefully be able to talk to your sailor soon.
  • Proud mama

My son is going out for 3 weeks. We are here in FL bracing for the hurricane. Love y'all and praying safety for all our sailors and their families.
  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

Yes they are all out, mine included. My prayers are with you and are Sailors.

  • Bernapet

Underway again.  I will be praying and doing Reiki on all our sailors out there in the storm.  Praying for Florida too.

  • jbird

proud mama- I have a son who lives in Naples, this hurricane is a first for him. Praying God's favor on you, all our sailors, son in Naples and really all affected, animals too.

Hope everyone is well, good to see chatter

  • JackRussellMom

Fair Winds and Following Seas to our sailors. Sending prayers for those in Florida.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Thursday!

Safest place right now is for the ship to be out.....they can maneuver around the storm.

I hope everyone stays safe - Irma looks pretty bad and there's 2 more right behind....

Sending prayers & good vibes for all!

    Hi all - Happy Thursday!

The Grilled Cheese Bistro is going to be featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives tomorrow!  If you ever get the chance to eat there I highly recommend it - it's delicious.  It's one of my sons favorite places and we've gone there every time we've visited.

Have you all heard of the documentary "Game of Honor"?  It's narrated by Gary Sinise and it's about the yearly Army-Navy football game and the rigorous programs of military training at West Point and the Naval Academy.  It's from 2011.  My husband taped it & we watched it last night (it was playing on Showtime) - awesome show, I highly recommend it.  We watch the game every year on TV but now it's on my bucket list to actually attend a game in person.

It's fall?? Our summer wasn't as warm as it is now!
    I love fall, can't wait!
    Hope everyone's doing good

I'm wondering if anyone has information or experience with their son/daughter/spouse etc taking the Early Enlisted Transition Program (EETP) My son is contemplating doing this. He will receive honorable discharge if he does this. His 4 years are up in Nov. 2018 so he will have served 3 years. He asked for my advice on doing this and I am not sure. My biggest worry is if he will lose any benefits by doing this? He says he will still get 36 months of the GI bill. I appreciate any knowledge someone might have about this.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Amber - as long as he has served 3 years and gets an Honorable Discharge he will qualify for his benefits.  He will have his GI Bill - which is 36 months of school + BAH while in school.  The 36 months of GI Bill/school equates to a 4 year college program (since most colleges are on a 9 month year).  When school is NOT in he would not get BAH.  My son is in his 2nd year of college - GI Bill pays for tuition and he collects his BAH (a little over $1700/mo in VA) during the school year.  He also has a part time job and over the summer works more hours to save up money.

If your son thinks he wants to go to college it would be a good idea.  He could get started on it sooner rather than later!

If you want you can PM me if you have more questions.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Thanks so much for the Info!!

  • Redsmom

Happy October!  Haven't heard from anyone in a while so I thought I'd say HI!!

  • BoomMom

It has been since the Truman's return that I have posted.  It seems like a long 3 years with that ship, but worthwhile for our country, I believe.  I want to wish all the best to those on this forum and their kids onboard.  I will be leaving this site soon as my son has been picked up for OCS.  I will join another site to hopefully support me as much as you all have.  Good Speed Truman family.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

BoomMom - BZ to your son - that's awesome news!  I wish him the best in his next Navy adventure :)

  • BoomMom

Been a long journey B'sNukeMom... Thanks for all your support.  Best of luck to all of you.

    Redsmom,

So your sailor is on the Truman? Son or daughter? If I knew this in the past, I apologize....

How are things going for your sailor?

    Yvonne and John :)

17 Years ago today the USS Cole was attacked.  Take a moment to remember and honor the 17 Fallen Shipmates.
