If anyone is looking for a B&B to stay at in VB my son recommends Beach Spa Bed & Breakfast.  He and his GF stayed there over Thanksgiving - it's about 2 blocks from the beach.  He said it was really nice - and the owners were fantastic.

My sailor left today, it never gets easier! 

Hi All!  I stopped getting notifications and guessed that everyone was busy enjoying visits from their sailors!  Didn't realize that somehow I stopped "following" N4M!!  Sure didn't intend for that to happen!  I have to agree with Bernapet, it never gets easier to see them leave.

I know your son will be around this month and we would like to invite him over to our home on the weekends. There is another sailor from the Truman who comes over with his wife. We play board games and eat together on Saturday evenings and on Sunday I make a home cooked meal with homemade bread and dessert. saturdays at 5 and Sundays at 1. Let me know if he's interested.

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

Boy Norfolk is getting slammed with this storm.  B has been in Michigan visiting his GF and his flight back to Norfolk was cancelled yesterday, cancelled again today and now moved to Saturday.  Hopefully things will be cleared by then so he can get back.

I just saw your post.  Thank you for the wonderful offer for my sailor.  I will pass that on to him.  Seems like they are all so busy right now getting ready.  You are wonderful to do that for our guys and girls out there...bless you both!

Hi Everyone! I'm so glad to see y'all chatting again!  I don't know what's going on but I am not getting these post notifications emailed to me anymore!  Anyone have any ideas  why that stopped?

Hi Everyone!  How are you?  I am not being notified when posts happen here!  It stopped when the switch to the "new" website happened.  Anyone know why?  Also, sometimes my post doesn't stay posted.  Again, know why?

The website has some issues that we have been unable to resolve.  I suggest everyone (if you can) try to check in at least once or twice a week since the notifications don't always work.

Hope everyone is doing well - B is finishing up this semester of college in VA and then he's moving to MI in May - where his GF lives (she was also Navy).  She goes to MSU and his plan is to transfer there too.  Thank goodness for the GI Bill for college!  He still has many friends on the Truman so he keeps me up to date on what is going on.  I continue to keep all of your sailors in my prayers!

Hi everyone. My daughter is contacting me by email when she can. She is getting anxious to start school to be a teacher. This is her last underway. 5 years has past. You know I am in California so I haven't seen her much over the years. I think she will be closer to home. This group has been so comforting and a blessing in my life. I will keep in touch to let you know her progress in life. 

Hi all! Thought I’d better check in seeing the issue redsmom is having. I’m getting emails but I did have to re enter my username and password before it would let me reply. 

My sailor was text/emailing earlier. He seems to be gone now. 

Anyone else heading to Norfolk for D day? We are so we can drive his car home.

We look forward to hopefully meeting  your sailor! We have a sailor from the Truman who comes over on the weekends with his wife. Let us know if you need us to pm you our cell so he can get in touch with us or we could get in touch with him if he's okay with that. Sometimes that is less awkward. :)

Hi Morning sky, I do that too.  I got an email from my sailor last week that said, "I finally got my cast off"...and I didn't know anything about a cast!  But seemed like everything was fine. He did say I wouldn't hear anything for a while.  Happy Sunday everyone!

Hi Ismenia!  I'm sure they are all fine.  I know they are very busy and that there are very few computers available for them to use so they have to schedule/wait in line.  I think the hardest part of all this, for those of us here at home, is what I call the "quiet time" where we don't hear from them for various reasons.  The nice thing is N4M helps you feel less alone because we are all commenting on the lack of communication.  Also, when one of us celebrates "the call" with our N4M friends, it seem we all start hearing from our loved ones.  Hang in there, We will start hearing from them soon! 

Heard from my sailor sooner than expected!!!  Hope y'all hear something soon too!

Most of the time they can't use their cell phone on the ship. But they can use the computers. When they are in port.

Just to let you know, my husband and I open our home and invite sailors to comed over on the weekends. If you go to our page on this site, you can see what we do. We feed them and play board games, watch movies, etc . We would like to invite your son over while he is still here. We can pm you our cell # if he is interested. :) And we would like to invite him over for Easter dinner too. There is another sailor from the Truman who comes over too.

Welcome to the Truman family, Joannie!  Mine uses his if not "on" the ship, then near-by as he is living on the ship, so having it there with him makes it useful.  When they are not in port, they have to buy a phone card and call from whatever phones they are told that they may use. Hope this helps.

John and Yvonne, since you live in the area, can you recommend a couple of hotels?  I plan to come and pick up sailor's car and would like a reasonably close (to the base) place to stay.  Thanks!

Hey everyone - Happy Friday!

I know the Truman is getting ready to deploy again soon (remember NO dates are to be posted - OPSEC!).  I hope you are all ready!  My son is out of the Navy now so no deployment for us but I will be thinking of all of you and your Sailor's.

There's a discussion above from the 2015 deployment and there should still be some good info in there that can help you out.  Or maybe someone will start a new discussion (or I can start it if you like).
