I know your son will be leaving soon, but I wanted to let you know that on the weekends my husband and I invite sailors over to our home. We feed them and play board games with them, watch movies, etc and would like to invite your son this coming weekend. If you think he would be interested , please pass this on to him. I can pm you our cell #. Another sailor on the Truman comes over and another this weekend. :) Check out our page on this site,
Jo 4 Bama - WhatsApp is a good app to use while they are deployed. It works with both iPhone and Android. We used this one and I'm sure there are others out there too.
A ship to shore calling card is also good to have - they can get them at the NEX and they are reloadable.
Remember - they get quite busy and in their "free" time they have to eat, do laundry, perhaps even study. Phone calls might not happen as often as you like but don't worry, I'm sure they'll call when they can. My son mentioned that sometimes the lines for the phones/computers can be quite long too. You might have better luck getting a call when they are in (or near) a port.
Lots of fun stuff happening on the Truman! We have enjoyed the time with our Sailor, never ending hugs (and pictures)! Your Sailor should have gotten D day details by now to pass on to you. Personal message me if you would like me to fill you in.
Hello everyone I’m new to this page, I have a cousin in the navy who just got done his 2 year deployment on Monday, he’ll be heading for another deployment next month. I have a brother who will be heading out on the Truman so I’m looking for support from others with family who will be touring with him.
The media has officially released the departure date for the Truman but please remember OPSEC and do not discuss time frames, port locations or any specific information regarding ship movement. Keep the Sailor's safe (port locations can be talked about after they have visited the port).
Hopefully everyone has been able to visit with their sailor before deployment - I know some of you are in VA now. Enjoy the festivities and get lots of hugs! I'll be with all of you in spirit on this deployment.
Oh I hope they do live stream it so we can watch it. I’ll be here crying away as they ship off lol. Any idea on what time it will be? I want to make sure I’m home to watch it.
I would start watching early morning until mid morning. I get in to work at 7am (PST-California) and will start streaming it right away. I'm guessing I should be able to see something.
Kristy - be sure to look at my discussion above "Truman Deployment November 2015". This should help to answer some questions you might be having on this deployment.
⚓️Good luck to all our sailors as they go on this journey ⚓️.... if someone finds the live stream can you please post where your seeing it from ASAP so I can watch too
Wow, it's already here...seems like I was just at the dock when they got in last time! I am looking forward to my favorite ladies on this page, and all the support we get here. See you all in November, but until then, prayers and Reiki will be going out to our sailors from AZ. Blessing to all our sailors and their families!
Kristy - I can't seem to find a definitive answer on the time for the livestream. I would suggest you just keep checking Wavy 10 and wtkr. Hopefully something will pop up soon! FB has lots of pictures being posted.
I finally got it on my ipad. I was holding my own, then my sailor called. Hope everyone is doing ok today, its a tough one. Looking forward to our community here to help get through the deployment.
Anyone know how to go about getting our sailors specific box number? Mine gave him the wrong info not his overseas address with the box number to be able to receive packages.
Bernapet - glad you finally were able to stream it! Ah and a phone call to boot ;-) Hugs to you!
Kristy - I believe your brother will have to give you that info. He should have his own email address for the Truman - hopefully he was able to give you that before he left? If so, send him an email asking for the mailing info. Just remember they often don't get much computer time....If he didn't give you the email then hopefully he'll email you at some point or call with the info.
My son is on the USS HT. He never got the email or mailing address. He filled out paperwork and couldn’t remember my email address so he put my cell. He ask his chief petty officer and he told him he didn’t know. He had 2 different CPO while he was there for past 3 weeks. What can I do?
Jo 4 Bama - I'm not sure what he can do since he doesn't know your email. Hopefully he'll call sometime soon and then he can give you his email address and mailing info. At least if he's able to give you his email then you can email him back with your email address and then he can also send you his mailing address. Might take a little while though....
Thanks for the streams of the crews departing port! I could not be there it was nice to watch it. I am just dropping in here to stay in touch with all of you guys as well since we are all away together but my sailor is aboard a destroyer flanking the Truman carrier. This is his second tour and overseas away.
I hope everyone is doing well today! Quite the day yesterday, hopefully you were able to either be at the send off or you were able to watch online or on the FB page.
Even though my son is out of the Navy now I still continue to support all the Sailors. Remember, they have been well trained! Stay strong, help each other through this deployment and BE PROUD! God Bless the Sailors and God Bless you mommas! Give 'Em Hell!
Thanks for the support :)) BNuke its so nice to see that you still follow..you have all that experience and wisdom that you have honed through times like these to share. Poem is right on target..that's exactly how i think about it which reminds me i need to hang a calendar and start striking every day behind us.
I just wanted to say thank you for all the comments! Some of you have been through this before, and your experience and comments have been comforting! My son is currently on his second deployment with the Truman. Your support, prayers, insights, hugs and love have been so appreciated! God Bless you and your loved ones on the Truman!
Navymomnow and UnitedNavy - since you both have also been through this before hopefully you can help take over here and provide support for everyone! Definitely hang your calendar and start striking off days!
I would love to stay on this discussion group! These years have been tough, although I have learned a lot about myself, my son, and family, life and how the Navy family works together. Seeing the Truman flanked with other ships ready and steady does help settle the nerves. My son said it is pretty amazing to see from the ship's vantage point. They are strong, and in-charge! Navy Strong! Give 'em Hell!
B'snukemom-glad you're sticking around, your help has always been so appreciated.
Good to see new navy moms, welcome to all!
since last deployment, sailor son has left the navy. Was with the HST since '12 but I can't seem to step away from N4mom's! I love that there are also destroyer etc.. mom's joining in too. They're all one team really. Bless you all!
Thanks jbird! Yep, I can't seem to step away either lol! How is your son doing? Mine will be finishing up his AA degree in Mechanical Engineering Tech in a couple of weeks (still in VA) and then he his moving to MI where his GF is (she was also a nuke, only on the Lincoln). She's in college at MSU and he is either going to continue schooling at MSU or look for work. He's weighing his options (thank goodness for the GI Bill)!
We get to see him for a few days as he is flying in to San Diego tonight for his cousins wedding this weekend. Quick trip but I'll take it ;-)
I agree - it's nice to see other mom's besides Truman moms joining the group - they are all one team!
I won't be around much for the next few days since my son will be in town but I wanted to remind everyone to wear your RED tomorrow! (I put the R.E.D. reminder up above.)
Have a wonderful weekend ladies ~ and remember, you are one day closer!

Yes, you will be able to hear from him....at Port stops, and emails and FB. There are times they can use the computer and times they cannot.
