We just got home a couple hours ago. I love seeing Moms from other ships joining our group! We are one team here. This is my sailors first full deployment, as he was flown to the ship with four months to go last time. In spite of all our see ya laters this is the first time he had tears in his eyes which was tough on me.
He told us there are three or four rumors about when they would be back so he’s clueless really. I told him don’t worry about it we will know.
We were at the pier and as soon as the tugs started pushing them out we jumped in the car and headed to Fort Monroe. They moved faster then we expected and they literally went over top of us while we were in the tunnel. I was texting him the whole time and told him not to squish us!
I did get a couple emails today - he said so far so good.
I’ll try to be on here more but no promises lol We have 4 foster kiddos right now.
Ive been receiving emails at least once a day from my sailor. His only complaint is the chow lines as usual. He goes later or eats what we sent him. Time to send more!
My daughter is on the USS Harry S Truman right now she she deployed on Wednesday She sent me her address but I don’t know how her name is supposed to go on the care package
Hey everyone - the "Truman Deployment - November 2015" discussion up above still has some good info in it so be sure to look through it.
A new discussion could be started if you all think it would be helpful - I could start it or someone else can. (My son is out of the Navy now though so I'm not in contact with the FRG for up to date info.)
Just wanted everyone to know I was thinking of them while the Truman is out and about. Mine is no longer on the ship but stationed overseas. Once a Truman Mom.. always a Truman Mom! Hugs to All!
So good to see past deployment friends and welcome to new N4Ms who have joined us.
My sailor stood rail so I didn't see him that morning. We had our time together before they sailed out. They really looked awesome heading out, didn't they?
Glad to see the group getting (back) together and looking forward to our chats over the next while.
Ive been seeing lots of people on fb pages posting they have been contacted by their sailors. I’m still waiting to hear from my brother. I still don’t have his box number either so I can mail him packages :-/
It seems some are busier then others. And they have to share the computers. Mine is lucky there are only 4 at a time in his area. I’m emailing him now.
I hope you hear something soon, especially to get that all important box number.
Im in a barbershop chorus and tonight is our Friends and Family concert. Two of the songs are God Bless America and Let There Be Peace on Earth. I’m Pretty sure I won’t be singing those. I may just hop off the risers for them.
I'm not sure if any of you heard about the Southwest flight that lost an engine yesterday and had to make an emergency landing in Philladelphia - sadly one woman lost her life - but they are crediting the pilot Tammie Jo Shults with safely landing the plane. She is a former fighter pilot with the Navy!
B’s Sad news about the Mom who lost her life on the plane. But kudos to the former Navy pilot for being able to make it back without further loss.
my concert went great! Not so much our warm up time. After our teary run through. Our director said don’t close your eyes so you don’t “ go there” just focus on my face and I won’t look at you. That’s what I did during the performance and made it through mostly. There were a couple times I almost lost it but managed to hold it together.
I am interested in hearing more about your concert. I am a music teacher and chorus director. Where is the chorus located? What type of music do you perform?
Just a reminder from the Truman FRG - sometimes the ship goes "River City". Don't be alarmed if you don't hear from your Sailor - they are doing their job! (This was posted previously on their FB page.)
Also, please remember they are working long days. The ship is active 24/7 so it's not unheard of to work 12-16 hour days. Then they still have to eat, sleep, shower and maybe even study. It's not always easy to get access to a computer so even though they may want to call/email it's not always possible. Remember, NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!
Good afternoon Moms! I got a short sweet email yesterday from my sailor. It truly made my week! Hoping and praying the others that haven’t heard from theirs gets one soon. Thanks for all the support. Wearing my red shirt tomorrow!!!
Aww I’m so happy some of you have heard from your sailors. Me well I’m still waiting. I just saw they entered European theater whatever that means so I’m guessing Europe lol it’s hard not hearing anything other then what’s posted in the media but I’m staying positive and enjoying this group :-)
I finally got an email today !!! The last two nights I haven’t slept well been having dreams that ended up having to do with my brother. Waking up to see his name across my phone screen was like Christmas morning . I needed to hear from my sailor.
So happy to hear your news, Kristy! I'm sure your sailor is just as happy to get the chance to contact you. I understand it is a test of perseverance sometimes! Ha!
Kristy - woohoo! So happy as I know you have been waiting for this! What a wonderful Friday for you ;-D Now you can start emailing him back and hopefully start sending care packages.
Proud mama - please report back on the phone cards & let everyone know if the info is valid!
I finally spoke to my sailor! Tears of joy for sure! He is happy. He says they are running alot of drills. He asked me to send phone cards if possible. I know they have special ones for the ship. Does anyone know where I can get some?
Ali - Yay! So happy you spoke to your sailor! Look at my post a couple down - I listed a link to get calling cards. Haven't used it before but there is a # that you can call & talk to them to verify they are ship to shore cards. Cards are also available through the NEX and they should be able to buy them on the ship (if they haven't run out).
Thanks B'sNukeMoM ! I called and they said they do work ship to shore. I believe they are cheaper than what my son is paying on the ship. He said he paid $20 for 44mins. The card offered is $15 for 300minutes.

Praying for all our sailors and their families! I miss my son like crazy already!!
Is there anyway to purchase phone cards and send to him?
Apr 18, 2018
B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)
Proud mama - I found the following link regarding ship to shore calling cards:
https://www.shopmyexchange.com/scs/calling-card
They do have a toll free # listed and I would suggest calling them before you make a purchase.
**Please note that I have not used them. When my son deployed back in 2015 he bought his ship to shore card at the Nex and I was able to re-load it.
