My son is in 11-7dee (I was told not to type the real numbers) at PC and they start pool week today.  Does anyone else have someone in that class?  It would be nice to compare notes.
  • momof5

Hi navyarmymom....yes to the 11-7dee...they finish up pool week this next Wed...nice to know you're here.
  • navyarmymom

Hi momof5.  Welcome to you, too.  I talked to my son last night and he said that pool week has been a blast so far.  He is loving it!
  • momof5

I do love it when I hear from my son...he too is in it heart and soul...I made the mistake of watching pool hits during pool week on you tube....yikes....

  • ColleenJ

navyarmymom and momof5, my boyfriend is in that class as well! I just got back tonight from visiting him for the weekend :)
  • navyarmymom

Hi ColleenJ.  I think I'm jealous!!  I bet you had a great time.  What is it like there?
  • ColleenJ

It was amazing! And really great to see my boyfriend again after almost 3 months! Panama City is very hot and very humid compared to Salt Lake but it's a really beautiful place and the beaches are really nice!
  • momof5

will you be there for graduation Colleen and navyarmymom?
  • ColleenJ

No, but I will be going out a couple of weeks before graduation!
  • navyarmymom

If you are talking about graduation from Dive School, no.  Hopefully, we will make it to the graduation at the end of EOD.  Are you going to graduation, momof5?
  • navyarmymom

Hooray! With the night dive that finished this morning, they actually have a 5 day weekend.  Woohoo!
  • momof5

Yes I plan to attend the Dive School Grad navyarmymom....can't wait to see my son....my daughter and I will be going...

  • navyarmymom

  • Swims

Hi EOD Ladies.  My son will be starting his EOD class soon.  He's been in BUD/S and will be leaving SD soon.  I don't know much about the whole process involved with EOD so I welcome any information.  Thanks so much!
  • HMSP

momof5, we went to our son's dive school graduation earlier this year (for us, it was also a convenient time to give him his truck - he was happy to have his own transportation...).  They did have a small ceremony: the CO and the instructors made some comments, the honor graduate was recognized, and each graduate was called to the stage to receive a certificate.  They don't get any insignia since Dive School is just considered the first phase of their EOD Training.  The big graduation is at the end of EOD School.   Family members are welcome to attend.  There were a few other family members at the ceremony.  Unfortunately, they all had to head to Eglin AFB immediately after the ceremony, so we barely had time to take some pictures with our son.  We did have dinner with him the night before.

Swims: Hi and welcome.  My son was also in BUDS and ended up in EOD.  From SD, he went back to GL for 3 weeks--PTs, etc, but not as tough as BUDS.  But they did end up losing quite a few; they started with 31 and ended with 11 going to Panama City, FL.  In PC, they acquired 8--some rollbacks and officers.  Now, they have lost a few in Dive School and are down to 15 or 16. I think they are on week 6 now.
  • Swims

Thanks Navyarmy and HMSP for the info!  I'm like a dry sponge needing water (information!).
  • Swims

foreverMom, our son hasn't left SD, so he hasn't started even in GL yet.  He'll go to PC for dive school after GL.
  • momof5

HMSP...I was thinking we may have the weekend after dive school graduation...do they go straight to E AFB after graduation?  Hope there is a little time to visit.  Thanks   Oh...do you know of a place to stay?
  • momof5

Looking for a place to stay in Panama City...anyone have an idea....Gateway Inn and Suites on base is full....I have no idea...Also looking for a place close to Eglin...we will drive there after graduation...HELP....PLEASE....Im leaving tomorrow night
  • ColleenJ

I've stayed at the Bay Point Marriot both times I was down in Panama City, it's very nice and only about 5 minutes from the base but it can be a little pricey if you're booking on short notice. There's a La Quinta right across the street from the base that looks fairly new and nice though.

I just got home from visiting last weekend, all the boys are looking great and can't wait to move on to Eglin :)

  • momof5

Thank you...I will try Mariott and La Quinta....La Ouinta was rated top choice be trip advisor...any ideas for Eglin area...Destin or Fort Walton Beach area?  was lokking last night have not booked yet....
  • momof5

I got GREAT pictures....met your som armynavymom...great young man!  Met your boyfriend as well Colleen...also great young man...would love to share pic with ya...I could email or txt them if you would like....most of them got in the new housing at Eglin....amazing housing!!!!!!!  REALLY!!!!

  • momof5

Ended up staying at La Quinta in Panama City....directly across from the base...perfect and staying at 4 Points Sheraton in Fort Walton Beach (On the beach...15 min from base)....Also....PERFECT....I went for a run on the beach this morning,,,,son is on a run on the beach now
  • navyarmymom

My son is at Eglin now. I had no idea that was such a huge base! He says its a 25 minute drive just to get to his classes.  The galley food is awesome and he also likes his barracks.
  • pench

Navyarmymom send me a message I got to meet the guys last Thursday before they graduated at Panama. I can tell you they are a close nit bunch and all of them seem to be really happy.
  • navyarmymom

Pench, I've been trying to send you a message and it's not working.  Is anyone else having problems sending messages?
  • navyarmymom

I sent you an email, Pench.  I had to go to your page to send it--couldn't send it from my inbox.
  • pench

I got it navyarmymom, praying for our boys and their 1st test. this coming week.
  • Swims

Good Morning EOD Moms,  my son is about to start dive school and his birthday is coming up.  Is there any gear or cool something or other that they need or can use that they are not issued and would have to buy for themselves that you think would make a good gift?  Thanks so much for anything!

  • pench

Swims my son graduated the last class and I still do not have a answer for you on that one. maybe navyarmymom would know. if he hasnt bought a watch then I would get him a really good dive watch. it is important for them to watch their time down there. :)

navyarmymom, got text from my son everyone passed their test today YAY!!!

  • Swims

Thank you Pench!  A watch is a very good idea!!  I don't know for sure if he's bought one... I'll have to ask some sneaky questions.  So happy to hear your son and navyarmymom's son passed!
  • ColleenJ

Swims my boyfriend was in the last dive class as well and I know something cool that a lot of the guys had fun with was an underwater camera. The instructors will allow them to take the cameras on some of the dives and they end up with some pretty cool pictures!
  • Swims

Another great idea!  Thanks Colleen!! These suggestions really help.  I know he doesn't have an underwater camera... :-)
  • navyarmymom

Way to go, class 11-70!  I'm so happy they all passed their first test.
  • navyarmymom

That's what my son is thinking about asking for Christmas--a GoPro Naked Hero. It's around $260.00, I think.  Besides underwater stuff, he said it would also be good on jumps.

  • navyarmymom

    Thanks, Laurie.  I'll remember that.
  • Swims

Thanks so much for letting us know about the camera Laurie. The price isn't too bad either, compared to the others.
  • navyarmymom

Well, they are no longer class 11-70. I just assumed that class name would stay with them all the way through dive school and EOD . Wrong, wrong, wrong. In EOD, he is in class 1 2 0 1 0.  Does that designation mean anything in particular? (I separated the numbers for securities sake--do I need to do that?)
  • Swims

Good question navyarmymom.  I'd love to know too.
  • Swims

I don't know where to respond to Becky's note to all the members of EOD, so I guess I'll just do it here.... ?  (Don't know which Becky you are :-)  I posted in the discussion forum above the OpSec rules that are posted on the BUD/s pages and on the SEALs page as it applies to us all.  I do know that we aren't to mention any dates, specific locations or names on any public forum and this EOD page is public, but I'm sure I am by far not the most experienced or in the know person here, so any of those who know more please let us all know the scoop.  Thanks!
  • AshleyB fromSD

Hello everyone, I'm Ashley and my husband is in class 12-10. Anyone else have someone in that group?
  • Swims

Welcome Ashley!  My son is in class 12-10, as you know ;-).
  • Aussiesmom

Does anyone know how often they class up?  I have a son who has a contract but is awaiting orders to G.L. for training.  I've heard there is a class beginning next week, but obviously he won't make it to G.L., so he will most likely be holding until the next class.

  • pench

I think they class up every 4 weeks dont hold me to it though :) also with the holidays fast approaching it may be longer.

  • pench

just checking in good Ideas on the camera's can't get my son to tell me what he wants lol. he is still doing great and best of all HE LOVES IT!!!!! that is all we can ask for. two divisions down and 8 more to go in this location so glad they train them so well. hope everyone is doing well and your sailors are safe and happy
