Thank you for replying pench.  My son did get a flight from SD yesterday.  It was just so down to the wire, I wasn't sure if he would.  If he didn't make it into this class, I was trying to estimate how much longer he would be in California.  He is coming from SEAL training and is eager to begin his new path.  I've watched a few episodes of "Bomb Patrol, Afghanistan" trying to get a feel for what he will be doing.  I had been preparing for all of the stages of SEAL training, and sort of knew what to expect.  I have a lot to learn about EOD training.  It is encouraging to hear that your son Loves it!!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.  Whether everyone can be with their loved ones or not, I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  • Swims

Thanks navyarmy and yes, Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

  • navyarmymom

I couldn't pick--so I just say I'm a winner either way (diplomatic, huh!).  Although my Navy son says that since he is my favorite, I should be cheering for Navy.  Anyway, the game is over now and Navy won---so congrats to Navy!

  • AshleyB fromSD

So proud of all the men!! Happy to be having L come home for Christmas!! Merry Christmas everyone, hope the season is full of cheer!!
  • navyarmymom

Merry Christmas, everyone.  It will be so nice to have our boys home :)

  • Swims

Yes Ashley, so proud of our guys!   My J is on his way home right now....  Merry Christmas EOD family....   I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!  God bless you guys!

  • proudeodmommy

WOW mom2jd, I am gonna cry now also.  My son leaves for basic Mar 14.  I am single mom and he is my youngest.  Do the boys get any time between boot camp and (can't remember the name) but the 4 weeks after boot camp. to come home?

  • Swims

My son just finished dive school and will be moving on to the next phase.... I know what you mean about "choking up" mom2jd.  Two days ago I was thinking about his next step in EOD and just started crying... unfortunately, he was in the room and he just said, "1 year mom, I have 1more year of training."  but... he didn't get it, not being a mom... :-)  We are so proud of our guys.... I'm glad we can come here for support.

  • Swims

Congratulations Kathy to your son and your family!  You have so much to be proud of!  Where is EOD graduation?

  • ColleenJ

Congratulations Kathy! My boyfriend will be graduating in August!

If you don't mind me asking, when did your son pick his orders? I am graduating from college in May and need to start applying for jobs and my boyfriend and I were hoping to be able to live together (and hopefully get married!) once he graduates if he gets orders stateside but I'm just wondering how long it will be before we know where he will end up because the timing of my job search is somewhat dependent on when he'll be choosing orders! (It's a really complicated story with the internship that I'm currently working at lol!)

  • Swims

Happy New Year Everyone!  God bless!

  • proudeodmommy

    Kathy#1Fan,

Thank you.  I will look at the other thread above.  Will he be able to come home after the 4 weeks at Prep?

  • Swims

Mom2jd you have much to be proud of.... God bless you and your son.

  • navyarmymom

Renee--I'm so glad he was home for Christmas this year.  It was only 1 year for us and seemed like forever!

My son's twin brother is in Afghanistan and that was hard but at least we had our other 2 sons home for Christmas.

mom2jd--best wishes for your son's safety.

  • ColleenJ

Thanks Kathy! I know that there will be additional training after EOD school but we are just hoping that I can end up with a job around the same area that his actual job will be...it's definitely looking pretty uncertain that it will happen that way right now but hopefully everything will work out!

     Happy New Years everyone!

  • proudeodmommy

  • proudeodmommy

Kathy#1fan, Enjoy your son.  Have a great time.  Tell him congrat also!

  • navyarmymom

Hello all.  We do not have G4 so we are not able to watch Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan.  Does anyone know where we can get the episodes to watch?

  • ColleenJ

I know you can download the episodes from iTunes. I think there may be a few other ways to watch them but I can't remember right now. I thought the series was entertaining but I was promptly told by my boyfriend when I brought it up that the team was putting on a show for the cameras most of the time haha.
  • QMGsmom

My son just got to BC Jan 18th for EOD,,, I know that all recruits go thru the same BC training and that the Spec ops have their particular physicals to pass, but are there any other different things they go thru from the non spec ops recruits?

  • Swims

Welcome QMG... I thing the spec ops division is different in many ways. It may not be in actual logistics (I don't remember my son mentioning specifics), but in the whole atmosphere of the division.  I remember my son remarked that the division commanders in the other divisions "were actually nice people,"  meaning of course, that their division commanders were not.  The spec ops guys look at the other divisions as wimpy and that they're the tough guys and they are treated like the tough guys because they are beat down a lot to toughen them up.  Hope this helps...

  • ColleenJ

My boyfriend went through back in March and his spec ops division had to wake up earlier than the other divisions and march over to the pool every morning to swim or do some other additional pt. I think that was the biggest difference and then like Swims said, his division got a lot more beat downs as well.
  • QMGsmom

Thank you... My son has been waiting a year to leave for BC, and has had many friends for Seals, SWCC and Nuke recently go thru so Im hoping he has some idea of what to expect. While he was waiting he was required to train and PT here in So Florida the whole time. He had a tough Sr Chf on his tail. Iknow that the comradery is something he craves...this Im sure he will find in this group of guys.

  • Swims

The guys definitely become "brothers."  :-)

  • QMGsmom

Thanks, I figured as much. Just what my son wants

  • QMGsmom

I got a call last night. He said he needed information for security clearance. All this information was complete initially, so why now after a long time before he shipped out would they ask for the same information?
  • Swims

QMG, they do not do a top level security clearance when they sign up or go to BC.  It is way too costly and so many of the guys end of dropping or for whatever reason not making it, so they wait to do this after it looks good for them.  They will talk to everyone in your son's life in the past and present. It is quite extensive and with what they do in EOD they do a thorough check. Hope this helps.

  • QMGsmom

Swims, yes it makes sense, just curious as to why they need this when they already have it... So ill look at it as a positive thing... He must be doing ok so far.. :)
  • pench

Hi all havent checked in her in quite some time, hope everyone is doing good and that your sailors are all healthy and happy. my son is still going strong in school get to see him this weekend so I am happy about that. just thought I would pop in and say hi hope all is good

  • Oldest of 4

My son on last division . reclasses up in march. Waitn for enough navy guys for last division. Almost to graduation

  • QMGsmom

Oldest lf 4, I know there are at least 4 eod coming from 807,,,
  • QMGsmom

Veteran moms, I need some insight of how the recruits are trained and treated once eod prep starts. If ypud rather pm me please feel free. Thanks
  • ColleenJ

QMGsmom, my boyfriend went through EOD prep last summer and is now halfway through EOD school. You can message me with any questions if you'd like.

  • QMGsmom

Thank you Colleen. Graduation is over, but the ride isnt. EOD prep starts in a week. All the guys lost a lot of what they spent months building. They have a week to get back into the groove. Hes more worried about prep than anything. The group has guys with specific strengths, so are planning on helping each other to get back on program. This is what my son thrives on.. Waiting another month before I can exhale, just a little, lol
  • QMGsmom

EOD mom,,,, dont post theit last name, or even only use their first initial. I changed my picture as proud as I wanted to display it and change my real home town. Mine has graduated and is on the journey, just keep things discreet especially while he is in BC. Message privately if you have special or unique questions. Good luck to your son,,,

  • supernavymommy(PIR MAY 04/04/811

QMGsmom- you posted that they have to rebuild their strength, my sons recruit told him that they are with other EOD during bc so they workout harder than the others.......so that is not a true statement. My son waited a year to go to bc and worked out like a monster, ate very carefully and I pumped his full of vitamins so that was in vain? I know it won't take as long to get back in shape but his recruiter told him not to worry...hummm I think I need to visit that recruit....

thanks for any info you might have...mine PIR is May 4 so i figure since your son just got out the info will be pretty actuate.

  • QMGsmom

Supernavymom, friend me and ill let you in on the skinny :)
  • ColleenJ

When you say the first part of training do you mean boot camp or dive prep? I doubt they would move you earlier because there's no guarantee of him passing dive prep. The drop rate during that time is huge and they give orders to panama city for dive school first and then they have to make it through dive school before they'll get orders for Eglin about 3 months later. But they don't give them orders to panama city until they've graduated dive prep. My boyfriend and i are not married though so I haven't dealt with the moving situation so you should have your husband follow up with someone but you might want to look at other options. Can your job help with relocation or something?
  • ColleenJ

Oh okay. I think the best thing would be for him to do would be to ask someone during dive prep what your options are. Maybe check with the travel office? They'll have the most up to date information on everything. If you have any other questions feel free to message me :)
  • QMGsmom

Prep finally over, phew!!!  That was worse than boot camp. Its been a month since graduation. On to PC!! Its still a long road but one day at a time..

  • NWmom

Just curious how many here ever been to BUDS?

  • addy62

my son is set to have his PIR on 5/4/12.  people talk about A school but which of all the schools that he will be going to is his A school?

  • NWmom

Addy its the first stage of any training after BC. :)

  • addy62

nwmom, so his pre-dive is A school and then he moves to florida for just school

  • Levada

Praying for his family in their time of sorrow and giving thanks for all the young men and women thatare willing make the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

  • QMGsmom

NWmom, my son just finished prep a week ago and they had about 15 guys coming in from buds. He starts dive school today. He was 1 of the 6, out of his division (20 total) that made it. So proud of him.

Kathy, congrats to your sons accomplishments. I wish and all EOD safe time ahead. Its heartbreakinb to hear we lost one. Or anyone. Prayers sent
  • addy62

thanks kathy and congrats to your son

  • QMGsmom

Hello everyone, I need some help here. My son is in his 2nd week of dive school in pc. Unfortunately neither boot camp or dive prep prepared him, or allowed him to maintain any physical shape for what he facing now. He was in great shape before he left for GL, but this is so far beyond the last 3 1/2 months. Can anyone tell me how dive school goes going forward? I know the first few weeks are usually spent with the instructors displaying their dominance and ease up and actually start training the guys. My kid is tough, this just for my peace of mind. Thanks
  • QMGsmom

Thank you Tim, if  my son is anything it is being completely comfortable in the water. He was 6 out of 20 from his division that made it through EOD prep. He is also one to fly under the radar, and knows to keep his head low. Unfortunately dive school is more physical, includes serious studying and 10-13 hour days. The weekends are his only rest but that includes studying and trying to get off base to just escape a little to keep his head clear. He knows all too well how serious they are about keeping your nose clean and staying out of trouble. I think once the next week or so passes by, his body will be used to the routine,,, on autopilot. He is already certified to dive so he has a little headstart in that regards, but I know dive school is much more in depth. He is smart, just want him to take care of himself.

I appreciate the info, very much.

Anyone else have anything to add :D
