FYI - Navy4Moms Molly's Adopt a Sailor just posted........started the discussion "May 2014 Adoption USS Bush Supply Group" in the group Molly's Adopt A Sailor on Navy For Moms........

  • Dad of Sailor

    Susan,

Sure, you can use any box you want and just pay the correct postage at the post office. The ones often spoke about here are the priority mail flat rate boxes but any box will work fine.

Email from my son this morning said they are going to have a swim call and a concert very soon. Don't want to mention the exact day but it is soon. That should be fun for those willing to jump off the elevator into the ocean. :)

  • TLC72

Our weather is finally warming up for more than a day at a time! I'm so excited to be able to wear my RED Friday shirt each week and not have to have a jacket covering up the back.

Dad- Sounds like fun for them. My son asked several weeks ago for me to send his swimming trunks, so I figured they would get to sooner or later. I hope we get to see some pictures of that!

  • Dad of Sailor

    Very cool picture...

  • TLC72

    Agreed, very cool!

  • Laura

It's not the jumping off the elevator that worries me.

It's getting back on the ship!  LOL!

  • Anita n Ohio

Wonder how many "Parrotheads" on The Bush will be singing, "Can't you feel 'em circlin', honey?  Can't you feel 'em swimmin' around?  You got fins to the left, fins to the right, And you're the only bait in town."  lol

  • JackieD

Anita, that's funny! My son will be doing the "swim call".

Dad of Sailor, I see my grape :)
  • KathyWQ

My son called this morning and I asked him if he was doing the "swim call" and he said DUH.  hahah    I knew he would not pass that chance up.

  • lavendergrl8

is there a red shirt i should know about? :-)

  • rikki_100113

Lavendergirl there is a red shirt that the frg sells as well as love and war clothing sells them too. The red shirt is supposed to be worn on Friday to show that your loved one is deployed and to bring them home safely. You can get the shirts and info from their facebook pages. Love and war clothing has no affiliation with the bush. She is a military wife that sells to military families.

    Hi Everyone,

It's so nice to hear they might be having some fun.  I haven't heard from Edward in a week, It feels like a year, but I am trusting that he is just busy. In the meantime I met and have fallen for a Navy man. God help me I can't seem to get away from this life!

  • lavendergrl8

thank you so much rikki- apreciate the info.

    congratulations ed's mom :-)

  • TLC72

The R.E.D. Friday stands for Remember Everyone Deployed. I first heard about it a couple years ago through a friend who's husband is in the Army and was in Afghanistan at the time. I work for a sportswear company and had some shirts made with the ship on them, mostly for family but a few friends ordered too. I would have asked on here if anyone wanted to order, but didn't want to take away from what the FRG is selling.

My Sailor.  Just got this yesterday, had to share.  Guess the rocker is on the right shoulder.  Dad, can you I.D. those ribbons?  I know what the Red/Yellow/Red is.

  • Dad of Sailor

    Good looking Sailor Anita!

    The ribbons are.

Top = Navy "E" Ribbon (awarded to those crew members who are attached to a unit that earns the Battle Efficiency award or "Battle E".

Bottom right (her right) = National Defense Service Medal (awarded to everyone that serves during a time of conflict)

Bottom middle = Global War on Terror Service Medal (awarded to everyone that serves during the GWOT)

Bottom left (her left) = Pistol Marksmanship Medal (she qualified marksman with a pistol)

I just got an email from my son who said the day he saw the shark from the ship, he decided he would not be taking a swim. :)

  • Dad of Sailor

They have security personnel in boats with guns to shoot the sharks. Normally the sharks only get one or two Sailors before the security personnel are able to scare them off. :) Just kidding! They do have people with guns though for this reason. Never heard of an issue with sharks.

  • Dad of Sailor

  • Anita n Ohio

    Thanks, Dad!!!

Believe it or not, my Ex sent those to me....so I have no idea how long it took him to get them.

Do the sailors in the boats with guns sing, "...Fins to the Left, Fins to the Right and you're the only bait in town"?  LOL

  • Dad of Sailor

Anita, was your daughter was on the ship for the last deployment? Is that where she earned the Navy E Ribbon? That is a good one to have, not every Sailor has the opportunity to earn that one in their career.

  • Laura

    You crack me up Anita!

I thought that the watchful sailors in the boat would be humming the "Jaws" music as the others swam!

  • Anita n Ohio

Thanks, Dad.  She arrived in Norfolk from boot camp (October, 2011) while The Bush was still out on their first deployment.  This is her first deployment.  I know she received the ribbon for becoming a sailor and her Pistol Marksman Medal at boot camp.  I regret not taking her shooting with my .357 before boot camp.  She competed with her R.O.T.C. Navy in air rifle and medaled at a competition at Camp Perry (near Port Clinton, OH).  I know she could of earned a higher ranking if she had previous hands-on training with a handgun.  As for the Navy "E" Ribbon, I'm not sure.  Could that be awarded during those exercises they did when they were out qualifying at sea before deployment?

Laura, when I read Dad's comment, Jimmie Buffet's song came ringing in my head (Cincinnati Parrothead here!)

  • Dad of Sailor

Lol, that is funny Tonya. Mine said out of his entire shop only him and one other guy are going to do it because everyone else is a (can't type the word he used but it can also be used to describe a cat). :)

I had no idea there were so many people that would not want to do it. I guess that leaves more time for those that do but less Sailors for the sharks to pick from. :)

  • KathyWQ

I can't imagine my son not doing it.  He has looked forward to this since they deployed.  Cant wait to hear his story!

  • JackieD

I asked my son if he was worried about the sharks.  He said it's pretty safe, they have rescue swimmers in the water and riflemen on watch.

  • ed'smom

    Funny Dad!

It's great to know were have a bunch of (other word used for Cat's) out there ready to fight for the USA haha

Seriously thought, you got to have a touch of crazy to get in the ocean when armed protection is seen as necessary.  Which means Edward probably went in.

Anita - love your comments - you bring laughter into my days!

  • MarianneKT's Mom

My daughter plans on going.  The USS Essex had a swim call when she was over in Japan.  She is looking forward to it no matter what!

  • Dad of Sailor

My son sent an email this morning and is so excited to swim. Sounds like it is the first thing he's had to look forward to in a while. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

  • mommaross CVN77
