It's all over fb and news. It will be live stream. Can't wait someone has to hold a sign for their Sailor with our group on the back lol
  • Dawnette7

I'm making my sign tonight... I'll be sure to put N4M on the back!!
  • TLC72

It's so confusing sometimes  to know what can be released and what can't. I want so bad to let family and friends know it will live streamed, but as of yesterday, the ombudsman says it shouldn't be put out there on social media. I guess I'll wait until it's released by the Navy and give their link the the streaming instead.

  • Angeleyesm

It's been released once the news posts it so you guys are good :)
  • SailorMom94

Navy times posted it on fb.
  • Mahler

    Dawnette 7, N4M sounds good.
  • Mahler

Sailormom94, the N4M should be really big and bold, right, maybe with a colorful poster??
  • SailorMom94

Mahler as big as you can get it. It will be on YouTube for years to share. So all of you going make it BIG and most of all enjoy.
  • CousinSarah

Sounds to me like the date has been unclassified, but the time is still classified...

  • Island Girl

Can we bring in posters? I know they said no balloons, backpacks, etc? Can u bring binoculars or an iPad to video? I'm very confused and hope I find all this out at the meeting Friday night? Sorry, I'm a newbie!
  • TLC72

I got some clarification from the Ombudsman today. She said the Navy did release the date to the media (the time will not be). However, they prefer that WE don't post it on social media because it identifies us as a family member of a sailor on the ship which then make us a target for this and future deployments. Nothing is really private on Facebook regardless of your privacy settings. Makes sense to me ;)

  • TLC72

Peter's Mom- I know you can take posters or signs and video cameras. I'm sure other video devices like an ipad would be fine too. I've not heard anything about binoculars, but I hope they're ok since ours are already packed :) This is our first homecoming also.

  • Mahler

Peter's Mom, all I know is I have seen loved ones holding up brightly colored posters in viewing the U.S.S. Bataan's return recently. My sailor has said a friend sent HER a poster that she recently told me she would be holding up upon arrival. As far as binoculars, I personally view them to b similar to a camera-- although MY viewpoint matters very little, lol, to the Navy. A camera case, I believe it was written in the "rules", is fine. I recall no big purses (small purses are acceptable), no balloons, no extra sachels/bags. I believe no cell phones can b used (you see them in movies uses for bad intentions). But a tablet to video?? And the Bataan did come into port in Norfolk, by the way. Anyone care to confirm my posting, here, or address the tablet usage?? Now that I think of it, I'm thinking I have to purchase a disposable camera since I'm assuming I can't use my phone for taking pics on the dock/base area at arrival time, darn it! And I just got my SD card concern rectified at my phone store today! I'll still take pics afterwards, although I may not post faces to Facebook, particularly a uniformed face. I've figured I could post a pic of some good looking boots, though!! In fact the best looking boots I'll ever see, coming home for good. :D Feel free to holler hello to this poster weilding N4M.
  • TLC72

I'll have to ready through the do's and don'ts again, but I don't believe it said cell phone's couldn't be used. I know they can't be used while driving on base (I think that's the rule on all bases), but as far as using them elsewhere, they're fine. I could be wrong, that's just what I understood. I know if for sure said no coolers, duffle bags or backpacks, but a small purse, camera bag and diaper bags are fine. I don't remember it mentioning not to bring other electronic devices, so I'm assuming an ipad or other tablet would be ok. Again, I could be wrong. Worst case scenario, you would have to take it back to your car.

  • SailorMom94

From watching the return of the USS Bataan both Sailor and loved ones used phone. You can't take pictures of the base just like any other base.
  • stuntsmom

I was wondering if anyone has heard from their sailor today via email? we usually chat on Monday nights thru email.. he works nights so I make sure to have my email pulled up not to miss him.. not sure if time change is playing a factor yet...
  • PinkVenom

I heard from my hubby tonight! :D I had not gotten anything from him for a week! He said that since no one really has anything to do that everyone has been hanging out in the Galley. So, the sailors working in the Galley have been super busy. That's what he is having to do right now. He is pretty greatful that time is getting close for them. ;)
  • stuntsmom

thanks pinkvenom my sailor also works in the galley... so that may explain it :-)
  • PinkVenom

No problem stuntsmom! :) That is definitely why you have not heard from him. Lol. He said it's been crazy working in the Galley the past few days and it will be until the arrive. So, just hold on momma! Not too much longer and everything will be okay! :)
  • PinkVenom

    They* arrive
  • SailorMom94

Stuntsmom and pinkvenom mine is in the CPO Galley
  • stuntsmom

cool! my sailor has so many stories about the galley lol... they work so hard so I'm glad he has some funny times to share... he loves the crew he works with :-)
  • Mahler

To Kwats Momma and Dawnette 7, maybe connecting, eventually, will b possible for more than just the two of you. :) Don't forget the rule of thumb when we're near the water-- "Baby, it's COLDER out"!!

It would sure be cool to see a N4M's poster on the live stream, whenever.

Dawnette 7-I plan on going to the evening prior reception; I am an Oregon duck fan; I will dorn some oregon duck garb so I stand out in the crowd; please come find me in the crowd; I extend that invitation to all; as I have so much enjoyed the friendship & support of all on here.  I am the mom that begged her son not to join; many arguements about it.  I cried & cried for days when he left; than deployment came....heart wrenching!!  But thanks to many of you writing your supportive messages, putting out your knowledge of your previous deployments; woo hoo suvivrors we are!  Proud of our sailors; very proud!!!  Cant wait to see my son and fattening him back up; he has lost alot of weight, eveidence of hard 12 hour days 7 days a week in the name of our beautiful USA!!!

See you by the cool cool water!

  • Dawnette7

KWats Momma... I have had extra kids wear yellow or orange over the years, so I am very much decidedly a neutral platypus! LOL Do you have an idea what time you'll be at the reception? I am visiting Colonial Williamsburg that day and want to be sure to be back in time to connect. PM me your number and we can coordinate through text. Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else! Maybe we could all wear a N4M name tag?
  • Dawnette7

Mahler... I just bought the poster board for the sign and 6" letters. I plan to make it simple - white with black letters. Maybe a few glitter stars and a bit of embellishment, but keeping it simple for clarity. I'm hoping to get it laminated for weather and rolled up to either carry or pack in the suitcase. But... I'm also thinking I may just bring everything, and buy another poster board when I get there. I don't want it to get creased or curved by getting rolled. Not sure about bringing it on the plane... LOL
  • SailorMom94

I plan on seeing a lot of signs with N4M make me proud lol
  • SailorMom94

Oooo someone day Hi SailorMom94 lol
  • Dawnette7

SailorMom94... LOL!! I'll see what I can do...
  • Clara Rodriguez

Thanks Tracy my family will all be watching!
  • Mahler

Hey, Dawnette 7- I went with simplicity , too. I started used row after row of cellophane (clear) packaging tape, that, of course I already had, to add stability to my large heart covered with stars and stripes-- to affix them. I taped a couple of small flags to each corner, with her nickname in the center of them, securely taped, as well, in case of rain or wind, leaving th middle 1/2 inch strip clear of tape for easy folding and it's going in th suitcase, folded in half. Glue could crack, in the suitcase, and glue sticks may not hold, on a windy day.

I have to work on th

    N4M
    Hi, I'm Mahler

part yet, for the back side, doubling up th poster board, as well.

I'll b looking for N4M, but I can't walk far, so feel free come see me while we wait. :)
  • Mahler

KWatts Momma, I'll be seeing you oby the COLD water, in orange sun glasses, maybe, but with a bold yellow sign with a huge heart and some flags on it.
  • benangy

Good morning to all, I have a question concerning homecoming.  Can you bring your cell phones, or ipad to tale pictures?

We are traveling from Mississippi and may not be able to meet for the reception on Friday night due to our drive across 6 states. Thank you all for all your support and help~~Bless you all Blessed Homecoming Celebration!!!

46 degrees and sunny actually feels pretty good to me right now since we seem to be having a little bit of January weather in Illinois this week with temps in the 20"s & 30's. By the way, you might double check with someone on the chair. I was planning to bring them but was told by either the FRG or ombudsman (don't remember who I asked) that we can't. Then was told by the base that they are allowed, but it will be very crowded. Just FYI.

  • benangy

    thanks Tracy 21

  • Anita n Ohio

  • Anita n Ohio

I'm wondering if we are going to hit snow on the Appalachian Mountains when we head home...

  • SailorMom94

Sounds like Peacoat weather. Our local Walmart has them for $40.00 here in sunny Cali go figure.
  • KWats Momma

Maler-I will look for the yellow heart sign!  I have my small accompany crowd que'd to dress in redwhiteblue N duck garb!

Dawnette 7-reception is 5-9; im sure we will arrive at 5.  I will figure out how to message on here my #.

Heres to cool weather, water & homecoming!! Cheers!!!

  • kellychoate1

Man, id give anything to be there.
  • Mahler

Anita in Ohio, are you going??

Benangy & all, I just finished th back of my poster, which has 6"+ letters:

    N 4 - in red
    M - in blue
centered, with MAHLER going down the side of it. I'm excited, like my sailor says, and I can't hide it!!

Look for my poster, white on the back, yellow on the front, with a red, white and blue heart on the front.

Even if you're not going, you know you'll be able to have phone access to your sailor or squadron member, like you haven't had for many moons! And to know their stateside is a relief, right!?!
  • Mahler

Tracy, benangy, Sailor Mom 94, Denise- how would I recognize you all? I might be in the tent they allow disabled folks to sit in, for a while., with orang sun glasses on.
  • Mahler

Dawnette7, it may take longer than you think to make your sign so I'd make it at home. That way you can have time to see the sights, maybe, while you're up there. My sign-- I worked on it 4 different times. I'm just saying....
  • JackieD

Mahler, I'm going to look for you and your sign.  I don't know what I'll be wearing.  I just know I'll be in layers :)

  • benangy

Mahleri will have a boot on my left foot I injured my ankle two almost 3 months ago,
I will be wearing a pink sweatshirt with Jackson State University or Blue Wilhelmina a Blue coat and one shoe(smile)
    Look forward to seeing everyone!!!!
  • benangy

Hopefully I can get in the tent
Doctors did not advice me to travel but 1st deployment could not miss it!!!
