Just an FYI, in-case anyone else was confused like me. I assumed that since they were back in port mail would get to them sooner, just take a day or two longer than normal mail to that area, not as long as the Navy was saying to leave for holiday mail (http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=83297) but a small box I sent last month looks like it will take almost 2 weeks to reach the ship as opposed to 3-4 days, just thought with the holidays coming up that might be helpful for everyone to know!
Even though physically they are on port here in USA - the package still has to go through customs just as if they were over seas. Yeah, it SHOULD be faster - but is not nearly as quick as it would be if they had a post office box at the base.
Some open a post office box at the base to get their mail faster. I know it usually took 2 weeks for my sailor to get stuff from me when they were in port.
Thanks Anita n Ohio-that makes sense! I had to fill out the form, but I didn't realize they'd still use it when they were in port, assumed USPS.com just gave it to me due to the zip code.
Very Excited to have our sailor home for Christmas this year! Last year was a little rough on him and us with it being the first year he couldn't be here for the holidays. His bedroom has been dusted and vacuumed and freshly washed sheets and blankets on the bed. Now to wait patiently for him to call tomorrow night with an ETA and where to meet him, as he is riding with a few others who are coming this way.
Guess I could do some cleaning in here since no one is in the room. A dusting here, vacuum under that nasty old rug. lol
Hope everyone seeing their sailor on the first half of the holiday leave is having a wonderful time! NO DRAMA!!! I get to see mine during the second half of the break and ring in the new year with them.
Got your Christmas shopping done yet? All cards sent out?
Our son/Sailor will be home over the New Years break and we're so looking forward to it. We've not seen him since last Christmas and it is definitely been too long.
Mine was home for Christmas first day and last are both travel days as he is in FL and we are in Cali. We had no POM time. So hard when he leaves I wish he was stationed anywhere in Cali would make us all so happy.
I'm glad we are still sharing our life's journey. We had a great Christmas with our Sailor meeting him in Vegas for his 21, can't wait for that had he was on the ship last year.
UUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!! Who does a pass when you have the #1 Rusher in the NFL? UUUUGGGHHHH! I feel like Charlie Brown and Lucy just pulled the football out from under me. UUUGGH!!!! (Yeah, I'm a wee bit upset!!!)
I heard from my son last night. He's sick right now :( He did get to watch the Super Bowl and we're all very happy with the outcome. Even though we're Niner fans :)

HAPPY HANUKKAH to all our Jewish Family Members!
I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play!
chorus:
Oh - dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play!
It has a lovely body
With legs so short and thin
And when my dreidel’s tired
It drops and then I win!
chorus
My dreidel’s always playful
It loves to dance and spin
A happy game of dreidel
Come play now, let’s begin!

Woo Hoo! FINALLY! I was able to hug my sailor! First time I've seen him in almost one year.
He surprised us by meeting us at the airport. And the bigger surprise was that he was on leave the entire week of our visit. Sheer momma joy!
