-7 this lovely morning in the Queen City.  8 - 10" of snow in area.   I know, nothing compared to poor eastern coast.

  • TLC72

I might be loosing my mind, but I thought I saw a post on Facebook yesterday from either the ombudsman page, or FRG page, saying they were having trouble sending out mass emails and are working to figure out the problem. Did anyone else see it or get an email? I can't find it now, but wondering what the email is about.

  • Angeleyesm

It's about when the ships return is and they mentioned they will no longer send emails about this anymore . That's the first time ever that I have heard an frg not send out information to the families regarding this and it's very disappointing . They want us to go to them to receive Information. They are reforming a whole new group but this one sounds worse than the last :(
  • rikki_100113

I just tried to look on both the frg page and the ombudsman page and didn't see anything about them sending emails out. I am curious as to when the email was sent?
  • rikki_100113

Hmm I did not get that email. I will be sure to email them and make sure I am still on their mailing list. Thank you for that.

Sounds like some of our loved ones possibly got a few snow days due to all these snow storms.

  • SailorMom94

What weather. We here in Cali can't believe it. We are meeting are Sailor in Vegas today his flights are still on from Florida. He has a body coming from Norfolk who is stuck at the airport, hoping things change (insert sad face).
  • Anita n Ohio

WOO HOO!   Come to Cincinnati and get REALLY sick!!!   Currently 28, we still have the snow we got two weeks ago (temp has not gone above 30 since) but we are expected to go to 55 tonight with possible severe thunderstorms and stay there until tomorrow afternoon where it will dive to freezing temps and possibly get another 5" of snow.

Yeah, our local weathermen are having a killer 48 hours!!!

  • lbimom

had 4 inches of snow Sunday- and expecting another 4 starting early afternoon -- then rain tomorrow and another snow for Thursday-- haven't seen grass since mid January! How many days til spring?

ps-- have fun shopping with your sailor!

  • Anita n Ohio

First Day of Spring is March 20th.

  • SailorMom94

I love our weather but once in awhile it would be great to see some snow in Southern Cali. You should all come out this way for vacations. We went to Disneyland today with the family and our Sailor 80° now that's crazy.
  • Anita n Ohio

Weatherman predicted 6 - 8" with a storm starting at Noon yesterday.   NOTHING HAPPENED!   Oh, we got 2" around 4pm (schools closed for absolutely no reason) and this morning that 6 - 8" actually turned out to be not even 2"...yeah, feeling cheated here!!!  lol

Would be an honor to be able to adopt a retired Navy Veteran like Drago!

Topic of the Day.  A photographer from Virginia Beach, VA has taken a picture of a US Sailor holding an American Flag as it cradles a newborn baby.  Some see disrespect, others see a very patriotic picture.

    https://www.facebook.com/vanessahicksphotography

I'm one that will normally stand firm that Old Glory deserves respect 24/7.  I have seen people around the world use her in disgraceful ways - be it Americans or foreigners.  But as I look at this picture, I see pride, I see our colors swaddling our future American.  I like it.  What do you think?

  • TLC72

I saw this picture earlier today and have to say, I sorta have mixed feelings. I don't think the uproar is so much about it being disrespectful as it is about it going against the Flag Code. Just like the Constitution, the Bible, etc, you can't pick and choose which parts you agree with and which ones you don't. You either follow it, or you don't. Part of respecting the flag is also respecting the her Code. That being said, I personally think it's a pretty cute picture.

For those that ordered the 2014 Deployment Cruisebook and were starting to wonder (I know I was).

  • Anita n Ohio

Feeling very upset right now.  Just got a call from my sailor.  Unless they past an upcoming test, they will be phased out of the Navy.  They said many are retiring after 4 - 5 years at their level but mine doesn't want to.  So I'll know by mid-May if I'm no longer a Navy Mom :'(

  • SailorMom94

I haven't heard that Anita n Ohio. But i did get the email regarding the deployment book , I actually called them awhile back and they said the same thing. Keep us posted on this test thing.
  • Anita n Ohio

Tonya, is is a written test.  They are taking it today but I'm not sure how long it will be before they know the results.  Yeah, feeling sick to my stomach right now...

  • lbimom

    is this for everyone

  • Anita n Ohio

    No, Ibimom.

Just a group that are at a certain level.  Basically, if sailors do not achieve a certain pay-rank by the time 4 years is up, they are moved out of the Navy.

  • Angeleyesm

Is he taking an advancement exam ? Sounds like it's the e4? All enlisted take advancement exams up until they are an e6 then it becomes boards . My husband has 14 years in and gets out due to tenure ( not making the next rank in time ) in July . Sending lots of good luck to him
  • Anita n Ohio

She has been in since July, 2011.  If she does not pass this exam, she will be phased out by July, 2015.  Told there are too many at her same rank.  Many leave after 4th year but she doesn't want to, wanted to make a career of it.  Test is today.  Either way, she'll end up on her feet.

She wants to stay in the military.  Only wish I could find someone who went from Navy to Coast Guard (now stop the moaning...lol).  If anyone knows of such a person, please let me know.   THANKS!

  • TLC72

The Navy Wide Advancement Dates for 2015 are 3/5 for E-6, 3/12 for E-5, and 3/19 for E-4 according to http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/messages/Documents/.... I assume that means everyone testing for that rank navy wide, tests on the same date, but I'm not sure. My son is supposed to take the E-4 exam, but he hasn't said when. I just knew sometime this month.

  • Angeleyesm

Have her talk to a recruiter . I have a friend who is a chief in the coast gaurd he loves his job . I beleive their tenures are the same my husband wasn't able to go coast gaurd or army . Army may be an option for her to they have a program for that . My husband didn't qaulify because he is an e5 and they didn't have an open position for his rate . She can stay reserves and pass the test that way and go back in as well. We are hoping to so that and praying we won't be out very long . With only 6 more years to retirement it's really hard .
  • lbimom

Thanks for all the info-- I am obviously very new to all this -- my sailor hasn't reached his 3 year mark yet so he has time to worry about all this--

Hope turns out well for yours today, Anita!

  • VICTOR'SMOM

Hi sisters how are you I did not about the test how is the wheather we are fo San Diego so y son say it is cold
  • Anita n Ohio

She said she's been told once she is out - she can't come back.

  • Anita n Ohio

Yes, Tracy...correct.  When I first learned of the test, it was scheduled for 16th.   Now on the 19th.

Can't help but partly blame boot camp for some of this.  She was suppose to leave BC as a E3 due to her 2 years in Navy ROTC in high school as a ranking officer, but didn't.  Should of known...

  • Anita n Ohio

OK, I need an "Irish Car Bomb" drink.

  • Anita n Ohio

Did anyone else get some info via email about May?

  • TLC72

Haven't heard anything yet, but I know they are limited to about 1000 emails/day, so it's takes a few days to get through the entire mailing list. Patiently waiting....

  • Anita n Ohio

Be on the lookout for an email with three documents in it.  Hard copy needs to be returned by sailors by March 27th.  I'm asking mine if I can scan and email it to them or if they need the origional hard copy.

  • Anita n Ohio

  • mommaross CVN77

I received mine, printed off, completed and signed and scanned back to my son!  Although I'll be travelling alone but that means I get my son all to myself for the weekend :) Feeling very excited!!

  • Anita n Ohio

Mine will have to work too BUT - better to be on the same ship than 1,000 miles away.  Told basically it will be like an all-day tour in different groups of so many.  There is possibly going to be an air show so I'm bringing lots of ear plugs to share :-)   Can't wait!     I'm praying for them today (test) but either way, staying in or booted out, we're going to show support for them.  I pray all this is for naught and they pass today.   Hate they won't know results until end of May.   UGH!!!!!!

  • SailorMom94

Mine is stationed in Jacksonville Fl what are the chances I'll be included? Haven't received a email but going to check with my Sailor. Good luck to your Sailor today Anita n Ohio, fingers crossed.
  • SailorMom94

Mine just told me it is only for those that are out in Virginia I'm sad
  • Anita n Ohio

Well, the deed is done.  The time as passed.  The 1.5 hour, 175 question test is over.   Sailor said it was very tiring and stressful.  Not sure how they did.   Last time they took it, they didn't make it by 10 points.

Sad thing is, there is not magic grade.  It changes each and everytiime they give this test.  All depends how many E3s the Navy wants to advance.  Out of a class of 1,000 (for example), do they want 20 to advance or 200.  See how the curve can be determined by how many they want at that time.  Next time, they may want more or less.  Just frustrating!!!!

Oh well, now waiting for 2 months.    UGH!!!!

  • Anita n Ohio

Please be sure to get your paperwork in to your sailor by 27th (deadline)!
