This group is for those who have loved ones that graduated from boot camp on April 4. 2014. A place to keep in touch with each other as the sailors continue their Navy journey.
I thought I read it somewhere on the site but anyone know if its ok to send pictures in our letters? I think I read something about it being ok if it was part of the letter in a word doc..any thoughts?
Received form letter today! Ship 02 Div 921! Woohoo! 8 Fridays to go! Best thing about 900 div, we may get a peak of them during the PIR before theirs!
my son left from Portland and arrived 2/5 at the rtc. I however live in northern Arizona. he is my 2 of 4 children and 1 of 3 boys. this is new for me and I can not thank you enough for this site!!!! I have siblings and family members in other branches but this is the first in the navy.
I received my "kid in a box" on Monday and was so grateful!! I realized how stinky he can be and how messy he still is, lol. I am hoping all of that will change soon. today when I got home from work the from letter was here!!! it all is so real now and I am so excited for this new journey he is taking.
ship 02 div 921
I am so proud of him and I hope to see him soon online at the other PIRs. I can not wait to meet you all and I am so grateful to have you to ride this roller coaster with me.
Pictures are fine to send, but scan/print them on the backs of your letters or on a separate sheet of paper....for 2 reasons: One, makes the envelope where it isn't thick so they won't have to open it in front of their RDCs, and Two, they have very little storage space so this makes it easier to keep pictures. Print collage-style so they have lots to look at!
One more thing....the mail is held from them for about 2 weeks....that is because the Recruit Mail Petty Officer must be trained before the mail can start flowing. They normally are given mail on a Sunday for the first time, and they can write the first time then too. Mailout day is Monday. Then, they will start receiving mail M-F each week, but mailout day will always be Monday.
900 divisions are the performing divisions. Some will perform musically, others will perform VIP duties behind the scenes. They normally will perform in the two PIRs before their own, as well as in their own. That is why families may get a peek at their SRs early when RTC FB posts pictures of the PIRs, or.....better yet....watch the Livestream of the PIR and see them as they perform!
Good morning all!! Another cold day in Iowa :( I have not seen many that have an SR in my recruits ship and division. I thought the divisions were pretty large? Maybe they will join soon? I know that 127 and 128 or brother divisions correct?
I have also read some where about getting free phone cards to have your SR hand or at camp. I would like to inquire about these for the less fortunate that cannot afford them but really need to call home! I have gone to the Web site "calls home for recruits". But I cannot seem to find an actual number to call? Could anyone give me more info I what to do?
Each card is 20 min. Your SR will be sent several and asked to share them. Each card will cover probably only one phone call since the connection from the pay phones takes alot of the minutes, so it is wise to mail your SRs a phone card, or they can purchase one in the NEX with their Recruit Debit Card (issued to them for supplies). But of course, it saves them money if you can mail them one! Get one that has at least 250+ minutes on it.
The number of SRs in a division usually is around 88 or so when they start. They will lose some of these to discharge and asmo (setback in training) in the first few weeks. They will then get more SRs back from earlier PIR groups....ones who had been asmoed from their own groups for one reason or another and are now ready to train again. That was the situation with my son who was asmoed for a week and then joined the PIR group that was a week behind his during Training Week 3 (there are 6 actual training weeks).
Yes, 127/128 are brother divisions and train together!
And, remember, only about 10-15 percent of the SRs are represented here on N4Moms. Very sad, but true. Many families have no clue about this site. I happened to find it when I googled after my son left for bootcamp. Be sure to share this website with ladies you meet at PIR because it is still very helpful during the school part of the new sailor's adventure and when in the fleet as well! One lady actually printed up little business cards with the website on it and passed them out at her PIR. Good Morning!
Thank you thank you NM!! I sent my son with a 3500 minute calling card, but would like to get some for other SR'S in boot with him so he can give some to one's that need them ;) Thank you again for all the info, you ladies rock! !
My son shipped from Virginia and arrived on 2/5. Received "the box" on Monday, but still no letter. I am assuming that his PIR is 4/4. This is the second time for us - our other son is stationed in Portsmouth. It is a little easier this time because I know what to expect but that doesn't mean I worry any less.
Good morning ladies! Closer to checking off another Friday. Got my airline tickets all taken care of. Looking forward to seeing those who are going to Sarge's meet and greet the day before PIR. YUP, I'm a little excited!! Aaannnddd....my son's recruiter called me and asked me to come to a DEP meeting because she would like me to give newbie mommas a quick N4M.com lesson. Anything to help our sailors I told her.
thanks diannep for answering the question about 900 divisions. My husband is currently in the hospital just having a knee replaced and my attentions have been diverted there.
diannep - that is a great idea about the business cards. What an awesome way to get more families and loved ones involved with this fantastic website. Think I might have to do that as well.
Justine - great idea about speaking at DEP meetings. I am going to go the recruiters office today and see if I can't do the same.
Just joined today. My son is Ship 3 DIV 127. I am so grateful for this site. He is the youngest of my 4 boys ranging from 28-18. He is the first 1 to leave the area and we were the closest. We did everything together. This has been so hard for me. People just keep telling me you should be so proud of him and he will come back a changed man. Problem is I don't want him to Change.....My son was GREAT before this. I am sooooo extremely proud of him and once he decided this is what he wanted after months of hearing what the other branches had to offer I have supported him 100%. He arrived on Feb 3rd. and I missed his last call.... :( Just can't wait to talk to him again. Does it get easier??? To me it just keeps getting worse.
Seth's mom: Same Ship same division; ) my son is 19, my only child so this is so so hard! Yes you keep hearing they will be a changes man when you see them next! I don't want to hear that either! Don't get me wrong, I want my son to be as successful as he can be in life! But at the same time you want them to stay your babies forever. What is really tough is when a statement is made to us as mother's, " he don't need you to take care of him any more", that pulls on the heart strings just a tad!
I just want my FORM LETTER!! I want to send my son his letters, and receive a letter from him! I miss him terribly. It is so so hard! I want to know that he is okay and surviving. I know he is, but I need to hear his voice saying that to me.
I hope our boys are giving each other comfort! I hope they become friends, and for a life time! That is one thing I want my son to take out of this, of course I cannot wait until I can call my son a United States Navy Sailor, but to cherish what he has in life. Friendships, MOTHERS (lol), father's, relatives and of course respect for all Military! !!! Cannot wait to talk to him!
hoosiermama: That would be wonderful~ I know that many ladies would appreciate knowing about this website! Hope your husband is back "up and running" soon!
Seth'smom, He will change, but the change will just make him more of what he already is.
I can't say it gets any easier, but it does get better as you become accustomed to being a Navy mom. You will have a lot of first while your son is in BC, and that is the hardest. As those pass, things will start to change for you.
The grocery store seems to be an "outside" trigger for many. The first time you reach for something that was your sons favorite, and then realize you don't need it, can bring it out. Many, including me, have had to finish shopping with tears in our eyes.
Keep your phone with you all the time as calls can come anytime. Yes, even take it to the bathroom and out to the mailbox. :)
Momma J. So glad to meet somebody in the same DIV. We received the letter but the date is wrong on it. It said Thursday 10th. I sent an email to RTC and they replied and said it definitely is the wrong date. They are scheduled for 4/4. Where did your son come from? Mine NC.
We are from Iowa ;) Sunny but cold today! Brightens the day up a little though! Yes checked mail and no letter:( That's okay he will get it here sometime. I just want to send my letters out grrrrrr. I don't like him at least not hearing from home:( Time and patients, I am by far not a patient person lol!!!
Thanks for your encouraging words. ellen0502. I know after BC we will be able to keep in touch just getting through these next few weeks will be hard. I know what you mean about Triggers. My boyfriend and I went to Lone Star the other night and my son loved the bread there. I cried the whole time we there. I feel guilty enjoying the things that I know he would be enjoying. I am a restaurant manager and policy is no cell phones.... I have already had to tell my staff sorry for being Hypocritical but my cell phone stays with me... Yesterday I was making a guest's order and I got a call from a 800 number I had to apologize and walk away to answer right in the middle of it. Luckily she was a mom of 3 and understood after I came back and explained. :)
mother of 2: Last year in the 04/05 PIR group, they had on the whites. Doesn't mean for sure it will happen for you all this year, but it could! Each base decides when to make the change.
Corpsman. He was very lucky to get the field he wanted. He had a lot of great options because of his score and what was available but that is what he really wanted to do. How about yours Momma J?
