Reana - They take the rest the first week they are there. If they pass they are promoted but are not recognized as an E-2 untill PIR. They will wear the chevrons on their uniform st PIR. They are still Recruits until they pass Battlestations.

I believe that whatever Rate you went in on is what you get paid in BC. If you advance during BC then paperwork has to be turned in and processed. Once it is then you will get retroactive pay if it is due you. 

I have heard two different stories about pay. The other is that everyone receives E-1 pay until they successfully complete BC and then get paid retroactively if they entered at a higher pay grade. Either way, all pay due you will be paid.

The reasons many will go for PACT is that they may not know what career field they want yet but they do know they want to be a Sailor and just want to get going. 

Sometimes there are not a lot of choices of Ratings at the time they enlist or they don't qualify for the ones that are available. Or they would have to wait too long for the one they want and would rather just get going.

All I can think of, coachjb, is that your SR has been promoted to E-3.  Did she go in as an E-1or E-2?  They can get promoted as high as E-3 in Bootcamp.  Yes, they leave Bootcamp at whatever level they achieved.

coachjb:  She may be a E-3, but she will have another job if she is headed to an A School....they don't have a job as a Seaman.  She will have another title after she finishes A School for that job.  If she is in the PACT program, then she is undesignated, will have 3-4 weeks of school in GL, some Leave time, and then be assigned to a ship---no A School yet.  I believe FTLW explained all of this in an earlier post.

coachjb - I agree with diannep. We don't know exactly what your SR means when she says "Seaman".

She is either referring to her:

Rate -  Seaman, E-3 paygrade

or

she could be in the S-PACT program - Surface/Seaman - PACT.

The term "Seaman" is either a Rate or a Field...not a job. :-)

Yes, there are many A schools around the States.

Also, the different branches may "share" an A school. When my son was in Builder school in Mississippi, there were Army Soldiers in his class. I think that is true for San Antonio for medical personnel as well. Just a little tidbit :-)

To add to FTLW's post about branches sharing A Schools, my son's in Mississippi had Marines there.

Also, if your son or daughter has been in JROTC during high school their pay grade will be higher. My son did four years in AFJROTC and he went in with E-3 pay.

Usually a recruit writes home about it OR theyy write what Day of Training they are on. Based on the DoT diannep can try and pinpoint a possible BST date.

We used to be able to post this publicly (which made it a lot easier for her) but that practice was stopped a few years ago. RTC considers it Ship Movement and so breaks OPSEC.

FTLW, I just got a let er today from my son and he has given me the schedule (as it stands now) of what they will be doing day by day this next month, including the day for BS. I was going to post for the div discussion. Glad I saw your post first. Maybe in a blog post set to friends only?

My son is in div 81 for anyone who would like any info.

Does anyone know when the 2nd PFA test takes place?  Does it take place during Hell Week?

Vickie, I know we are diff divisions but my son said his is on the 12th with the final being on the 23rd.  Should be coming up pretty soon for your SR as well.

Vickie360 - Yes the 2nd PFA is during Hell week. This is the one where they try to earn the Physical Fitness Flag as a Division.  

Physical Fitness (A) Flag- Awarded for receiving a 3.50 on first physical assessment and a 4.0 or higher on second assessment.

Thank you Vickie360! Glad this week is almost over for them then! I got two letters in the mail today! He said time is finally going by faster because they are much busier! 

All of the divisions go through Hell Week (training week 4) within a couple of days of each other, so all should have been in it at some point this past week and some will be finishing up this week. Some are finished and into training week 5....the GOOD news is that some divisions (lower-numbered ones) should be ready for their final test, BattleStations, towards the end of next week!  Be sure to read my discussion about this test up top on this page!

Correction:  Some will be ready for BattleStations towards the end of the FOLLOWING week, not NEXT week.  They can start them Thurs night, week before PIR week.
