    Hello!

         "Many are the plans in a man's heart,

          but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."

                                              Proverbs 19:21

    REMINDER:  If your SR calls or writes you with a Battlestation date, please don't post it here on this Main Comment Wall or in the Discussion groups up above.  You can let diannep know through Private Message or others through Private Message.  Need to ask to be each other's Friend to be able to communicate through Private Message.  Thanks~~

  • diannep

    To add to CatMom's post below, you can post on here that you have received a BattleStations date for Division ___ and then let others contact you privately for it.

    Good Morning!

  • A navy mom

    Good morning - getting closer!
  • ELmom

    We'll be there also. Does anyone know how many people can be in your party? We have extra family members coming to Great Lakes for the whole time, so there will be 9 of us altogether.
  • diannep

    ELmom:  Not sure what you are talking about as far as the number of people in your party ....but will try to cover all bases!  If you are talking about Sarge's MeetandGreet, as many as you have may go....just RSVP to Sarge at least a week before so he can plan on the food....if you are talking about attending PIR, just know that only 4 of your group, those listed on your sailor's list, can attend.  The others can stay back at the hotel and watch the Livestream, meeting up with your sailor after PIR is over.

    If you are talking about getting an airlines gate pass to visit with your sailor at the airport until departure, as long as all have ID, the airlines personnel is pretty good about getting each person a pass.

    Did I answer your question?  I hope so!

    Blessed Sunday!

          even at night my heart instructs me.

          I have set the Lord always before me.

          I will not be shaken."

    Hello Friends!

          coming down from the Father of heavenly

          lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

    I know many of you are on Facebook and have seen information about Sarge's Meet and Greet  "Basket Project,"  but I haven't seen much here on Navy For Moms (for our group)... Those that attend the event get a free meal and, from what I hear, it is lots of fun and informative!  To help with the costs, many families bring "baskets" that can be auctioned off at the event.  I visited with Sarge on the phone today and they are very committed to the new sailors and their families. They don't expect a dime in return.  I am writing this note to see who else might bring a basket to auction off at the Meet and Greet on 1-29-15.  We plan to bring a basket of goodies from Texas.  If you are flying and need to put things in a bag instead of a basket, that works well also.  There is a form where you will list the contents of your basket.  I will post the form, but, from what I understand, they will have some there as well... Reply to this and lets see how many baskets we can bring from our PIR 1-30-15 group!!!!

  • CatMom509

    Vickie360,

    Why don't you start a "BASKET PROJECT" group up in the Discussion Forum, so those who are interested can pop up there and all your responses don't get buried in the pages down here?  Thanks all of you who want to voluntarily participate in helping out with a basket donation to be auctioned off at the Meet & Greet~~

    Good Morning!

  • MlsinOH

    Do you have any suggestions on what there is to do in the area  on Friday after PIR - places to eat or places to hang out or do they usually just want to hang out at the hotel?  We will have a car.  We will have a group of 7.

  • diannep

    mlsship:  It all depends on what your new sailor wants to do!  Some just want you to bring up their cells/laptops and they want to take a long hot shower, change into some comfy clothes you brought for them (which can only be worn inside the hotel room, nowhere else...uniform only in public)....and get back in touch with friends/family.  Others have been cooped up so long that they want to get OUT!

    There is a nice mall nearby....Gurnee Mills Mall....many sailors go there...has movie theaters too.  There are many restaurants in the area to eat at....it is best to find out what your sailor would like....maybe ask in a letter now what they think they may want and do some research on the internet for places before you arrive.  One restaurant I believe known for their great pizza is Silo.  Not sure what else they serve, but have heard this suggestion over the years from several people.

    Others may want to hop the train (station right there by A School and RTC) and head into Chicago.  This is really better for those staying in GL for A School because they have more time.  Those flying out will usually only have Fri Liberty before being bussed to the airports, although in the group that PIRed this past Friday, one mom posted that her sailor didn't fly out until Sunday so they had an extra day of Liberty.  That happens sometimes, but most will be flying out on Sat.

    If you only have Fri Liberty with your new sailor and want to head into Chicago, by train or driving, PLEASE allow at least a couple of hours to get back to base....your sailor cannot be late.  And it takes a while for them to walk from where you can drop them off (either front gate or in Chapel parking lot) to their ships.  Err on the side of caution for the sake of your sailor!  Most of the sailors will not let family take any chances because they don't want to get in trouble....my son insisted on even skipping dinner if necessary to be back on base 45 min before curfew so he had plenty of time.

  • MlsinOH

    Thank you very much! I will ask what food she has been craving.  She does love pizza!  I just ordered her a St. Michael/navy pendant and was looking for basket items online. I do know she's looking for some big hugs when we get together, which I am also looking forward to! There go the tears again...

    Hello All!

         surely I will remember Your wonders of old.

    Friends,

    This scripture is so appropriate for the Battlestations that your SRs will be going through soon.  Perhaps you can share with your SR in a letter now.

         "Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

          I have summoned you by name;  you are mine.

          When you pass through the waters,

          I will be with you; and when you pass

          through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

          When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;

          the flames will not set you ablaze.  For I am the Lord,

          your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior..."

                                                                     Isaiah 43:1b-3a

  • momof4(14/176)

    Hi I was talking with some other loved ones on the facebook site last night about PIR etc.  This morning there was a friend request from someone named Salifu Abdulai.  I don't know this person, and am a little freaked out.  I was under the impression that the PIR group on facebook was a closed group.  I am considering just getting off of facebook.  Any thoughts on this?  Should I somehow report it to someone?

  • diannep

    momof4:  Everyone needs to be aware of social media sites and their vulnerability.  Closed groups are not really closed....everything can be public.  There are administrators on FB re: these closed groups (just people like you and me, not FB people) who try and determine if a person really has a SR at Bootcamp before allowing entrance into these closed groups.  But they have no access to a list of SRs.  They will go on your FB page and try to determine by that if you have someone there.  It is not a fail-proof system, of course.  Having said that, we ask all to be very careful in what you have on your page and what you post on FB, as you should on here too.  Not telling anyone not to be on FB, but use caution....don't get a false sense of security that it is "safer" than this group is.  Both groups are social media groups....and therefore whatever you post is there.....there is no guarantee of who can see it....it may be more public than you think!

    We hope that people on this group and FB will stay on both sites though so that we can share info re: the SRs.  Some go over to FB and never return here!

    Good Morning All !

  • CatMom509

    Good Morning!

         "Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary;

          Who is so great a God as our God?

          You are the God Who does wonders;

          You have declared Your strength among

          the peoples."

                                                Psalm 77:13-14

  • Vickie360

    If you can bring a basket to raffle off at the Meet and Greet on the 29th, reply to the discussion group "Basket Project."  This is a free meal and a way for each of us to help!

  • Renee

    No call, but 5 letters :)

    Div 81 did Marlin Spike on the 9th. My son said they did really well. Zero safety violations and had 12:19 left on the clock. He also said the teamwork was great.

  • Renee

    Oh, and their pictures and second trip to the tailor was today.

  • CatMom509

    Great to hear all the updates!!

  • HisHeartBeat

    I talked with my husband. YAAAY!!!!! Lord knows I've been freaking out from not hearing from him. So he hasn't passed his swim test still and he told me he has until next week to pass. If he doesn't we wont be able to graduate on time. I call was cut short and I couldn't ask many questions. He asked me to pray he passes. He still gets a little freaked out by the high jump. Will he be pushed to another PIR group? What should I expect if he does not pass in the swim test on time.
