Been awhile. Not much new going on over at Corry with my son. In his second week of CTN class and loving it. Says it is hard but challenging. Has gotten a study group together that meets on Sundays. Has had 1 test and 2 quizzes already and did well on all. There are a total of 100 military going for CTN and there are 20 per class.
He FINALLY will get Phase 2 this weekend. Delayed two weeks due to him not getting paperwork in and than due to the papers needing a signature. He is looking forward to seeing a little bit of Pensacola outside of Corry!
The classes run from 7am-4pm and are changing next week to 7am-2pm. Something about the classes being too long. He doesn't like getting up at 4am to do PT three days a week during the week than going to school at 7am, but he knows it is temporarily.

Deborah (CTT son)
Craig - I saw that Suzy was inquiring about online ATT courses for DEPPERS (my son is also leaving in July for boot camp as CTT). I printed the info you posted and will be giving it to my son to show to his recruiter too. However, in reading through other N4M discussions I came across this website and was wondering if it is something that is useful. Would love to hear what you think and if it is even something that I should have my son take a look at.

deboraho - You son needs to do the ATT course 1st. That is what they are pushing. However, the link to the NEETS modules is outstanding. Most of those are on the CTT bib (bibliography), which means they will test on some of those manuals during the advancement test.
Being a CTM, we live and die on those dang NEETS manuals. They were kind-of our bible. When I ran my shop I was kind of a hard @ss to my guys because I wanted them all to advance and be promoted. One thing that I made them do is highlight the important items in all the NEETS manuals so you just have one quick sheet to study vice entire chapters. Luckily I saved all of that stuff and have actually posted it on a couple websites to help other sailors.
However, for now, you son needs to bring those sheets to his recruiter and get a login to NKO. The Navy is really pushing for them to get it done....

Clockard, glassdog thanks for checking. She was scheduled for surgery next Tuesday. She didn;t make it that long, the stones shifted and started effecting other organs so they rushed her in for amergency surgery yesterday. She came through it fine and is already feeling much better. Now it looks like she'll even be able to class up on time. When her CO found out how long this had been going on and some of the treatment problems she had he was none to happy with some of lower officers and the medical staff.
Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.

I am so glad she is doing well!
Hopefully her CO will make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.
Will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Navymom3 - Right now, I would have him wait and do that couse with his friends and act in a unified and cohesive team. Don't have him do in now. I know these newly minted sailors want to get out to the fleet/shore duty quickly. However, what is the rush? Your son is the one that needs to do the NEETS modules that were posted on this thread 2 days ago. He will have to know that stuff for advancement.
To motovate him to do them, I will make this challenge for him. If he summarizes each chapter, and send it to you and then you send them to me, then I will send the summerized chapters that I made my shop do. This way I know he's not just kicking back and having me hand him stuff on a silver platter. I can easily tell if he did it or not. One thing for sure, he will use those summerized sheets all the way to E7, guaranteed....

mumzie - Let me check the various CT rating BIBS to see what NEETS modules are required for which CT ratings...
navymom3 - I need to check about the ATT course. Since I have an NKO account because I'm retired, I can see more stuff than most. I need to make a fake user account just to see what a normal depper can see. So I will get back to you once I know what the heck I'm doing...

Do you guys remember this past week we were talking about the Navy "NEETS" manuals that are needed for advancement, and how I said they are important? Well go up above and see what I posted.

Kathie - You lost me there... You switch duty stations every 2 to 3 years when you get new orders. Are you saying once you get to a new duty station, can you transfer if you don't like it?
Yes, every duty station has it's good and the bad. Frankly, I've never had a bad duty station, all of mine were awesome. What sailors need to realize is that when they get a crappy boss, that boss is usually gone within 1 1/2 years, since they also rotate out with new orders every 2 to 3 years. So everything is constantly changing. Unlike the civilain world which you got to put up with the crappy boss forever...

Craig
Hey all,
I want to see if you civilains can get into different parts of the Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) area as a guest. I would like to post links to advancement items and other things that would make it easy for you to understand some of the things I'm talking about.
The problem is, I can't even try to log in as a guest on NKO because I already have an account since I'm retired, and their computers knows my IP address and MAC address so I can't even try to enter as a guest because it knows that I'm not...
So those that want to try...
1. Go to: http://wwwa.nko.navy.mil/
2. At the bottom, click "Register as a new guest"
3. Then fill out the form... (Note you will need to create a 14 or more character password)
3. Once your logged in, I want you to try this link. It the place that shows all the Bibs for all the ratings. Remember a Bib is what the sailors need to study for the test. It shows exactly which manuals and chapters they need to review...

Jim C - I don't know of any. My daughter and I will actually be driving my nephews car down to him this Sunday. What a miserable drive it is. I did it 3 years ago too, when my son wanted his car. Got 2 tickets for speeding while driving to Corry...

Jim C,
I was just guessing what your situation was. That's why I usually always put offical weblinks in my post, because no one can't argue with the rules.
Basically, the Navy will not pay to move a car from one place to another within the U.S., however, there are rare exceptions...
"Members may be authorized to have their vehicles shipped in the continental United States if they are assigned to a ship that is changing home ports, have insufficient travel time to drive from the old to the new duty station (documented in writing by their commanding officer), or have a medical condition that is certified in writing by a doctor. A dependent of a deceased member may be authorized to have a vehicle shipped as well. Members believing they meet any of these conditions should check with a counselor. Otherwise, members should plan on moving their own vehicles within the continental United States"

My SR is still in bc - PIR 4/29 - CTN - leaving for Pensacola Saturday 4/30
Does anyone know what airline he will likely be on? Just trying to figure what time his flight will be. All he knows is they will drop him at the airport about 2 or 3 am.
He didn't even know which airport. Any info is greatly appreciated!!
I also wanted to mention how much I love this group! I cant wait until my SR graduates - then I will spend more time here I'm sure! In fact I think this group will grow a lot after 4/29 as my SR said there are a lot of Intel going to Pensacola on 4/30.

Cmom- It is hard to tell when they will fly out until they get there ticket. Mine was suppose to fly out sat morning but once he got his ticket he didn't fly until sunday evening. They could fly out of either airport also. But they all go to the airport at the same time 2-3am on the day they fly out.
Sorry I can't say for sure.

Thanks for the info navymom and cinder - I sort of figured we wouldn't know until PIR but figured it was worth asking. I sure hope it is sometime Sunday so we have Sat with him! We are staying at the Navy Lodge and have it booked thru Sun just in case!!
cinder; I have heard they can only take a black backpack with no logo, or color on it - but you say they can have a civilian suitcase? I am tempted to only bring a few things so it gives me a excuse to visit him in FL sooner!! I know the one thing he wants more than anything is his guitar and I know it will be awhile before he will be allowed to have that. (I also don't want him to spend more time with it than his studies!! LOL)

Navymom3: I will definitely tell my son to look up yours - Thanks for the info!
Any other advise I can pass along to my son about going to Pensacola is greatly appreciated! I was just wondering - is it better to get a volunteer job while in holding or do they have a choice? Also, any advise about going to PIR? I cant wait to go - and I cant wait for my son to finally get to FL. He too is ready to be done with BC. Has anyone heard if there are a lot of CTN's waiting to class up? Just curious how long he may be in holding before starting school. I still haven't heard of any of his references being contacted for security clearance so figure they are either really backed up or not in a hurry to do CTN's knowing they will be awhile before starting school. Again Thanks for any advise!
