That is great! thanks...not sure CTT's need this? but fun to send on anyway.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

@Craig   If I knew your address I'ld bake and send you cookies!!    I sent your posting to him   Let's hope that the Frequency Spectrum area is where he is at.   If not I asked him to tell me   He is sooooooooo secretive

@Clockard - D said to me last nite that the trainer came in, talked for 15 minutes and then they did online tutorials with no Q&A and he just wasn't getting it     I can image that is very difficult    Just hoping that ahha moment hurries up and gets here

  • Craig

NavyMom4J - Beleive me, the CTT will use that ALOT!

If your son says he won't, then tell him "Go rub your balls with grease".... Wait, you'll have to wait until he gets to the fleet for that!!! ~ha...

Actually, I better stop, they just keep getting worse, and someone will b*tch, then I'd have to myself in the time-out chair....

  • NavyMom4J

Craig- so funny- You made my day! LOL!!!  I love your graphics!

I will send both links to him!!  THANKS!

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

OMG Craig...I've been looking for the perfect "naughty" chair for my 21-month grandbaby! Exactly what I've been looking for!
  • cinder

You better not end up in the time out chair.  I don't know what we would do while your there.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

My son just called.  He got his verbal orders today  He got his first choice of going to Ft Meade   Its only 6 hours from where we live and we have lots of friends in the Baltimore area!!
  • NavyMom4J

Angie- that is awesome! Congrats to him!!!  How soon do sailors find out where they are going to be based? My CTT is only in his first month of classes so am sure he won't know yet- just wondering when to expect to know.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

NavyMom4J   My son is CTR and he is 7 weeks from his expected graduation date  but I dont know the schedule for CTT
  • NavyMom4J

Angie- thanks...I found it interesting that of all the places he could choose from he said he wants to choose back home to Colorado! I had no idea CTT's are in Colorado- there is a base here though.
  • Craig

NavyMom4J - We have alot of them in our building at Buckley AFB....If he's a 6yo he probably won't get there for his 1st duty station...
  • NavyMom4J

ok- my CTT is a 4yr - so he may get there from what you say.  But I would imagine it all has to do with where Navy needs him.

My son got his orders yesterday. He will go to C school for 3 mos first then Hawaii! He is so excited. We are not sure if he will stay in P'cola, or go to San Diego or Hawaii for C school, yet. Angie, I know you are happy to have your sailor close :)
  • navymom3

Sunshine when he gets there and is able to live off base I can give ideas of where to go. I lived there for 3 years. But on base would be best if available. It will also be a nice visit for you.
  • sunshine73

Thanks! I am sure he will be on base. Can't wait to visit :D
  • glassdog

My son got his verbal orders today, and it was his first choice!  Hawaii!  We are so excited for him!
  • sunshine73

glassdog, when does your son graduate? Maybe our sons know each other?

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Glad to hear sailors are getting orders. My CTT graduates C school the week of 7/4 and he says there are 4 classes ahead of him waiting for orders.  Hopefully we will have an idea soon where he is going.
  • Craig

sunshine - Most of the "C" schools are in P-cola.  If he's going to Kunia HI, then he wants to move off base as quickly as possible.  These sailors share a apartment with each other and pocket about $800 each per month.  They pay these sailors really, really well to live off base.  If the manning of the barracks exceeds 95%, then they will even let E-2's move off.  When I visited my son, we went to one of his friends out on Waikiki.  There house was huge and beautiful, it cost about $4K per month, but each sailor just put in there $1000, and all was good.  This only works if your not married.  Once your married, usually you don't have room mates.  So you don't get the nice places....

NavyMom - If he's a 4yo, then he's got a really good chance to go to NIOC Denver.  I looked at the list recently, and they show lots of openings.  He should look at the list himself, so he can see the various billets.

Kunia Hawaii - (ie the tunnels)

  • sunshine73

Thanks Craig! He already knows 3 girls in his class who have the same orders. 2 that he went to BC with. He said Wahiawa, is that the same place?
  • glassdog

Sunshine my sailor graduates on 7/29.  If that is the date yours does then friend me so we can find out if they know each other.  He said almost all of his class is going to Hawaii.
  • Craig

sunshine - Is he a Direct Suppor (DIRSUP) sailor?  Does his orders say DIRSUP?  The reason I ask is Wahiawa is the old base where the elephant cage orginally was at.  They are actually building a new building on that same exact spot to replace the tunnel building at Kunia, but it's not ready yet.  So the only thing that would make sense is if he's a DIRSUP sailor, which really means he won't be at Wahiawa anyways.  He'll be Haze Grey and Underway....

  • navymom3

Sunshine and glassdog- Wahiawa is just up the hill from Kunia. Maybe about 20 miles away. If your sailors don't want to live downtown Honolulu then Milliani, Kaploei and makakilo are all nice area. Milliani is going to be cooler and the other 2 are on the dry side of the Island which is hotter. I would not olive in Wahiawa unless on base. They might also look at Haleiwa and Waiailua which is considered the north shore. A lot cooler and you get the more of the sea breezes. Great area if they want to surf. Unless of course they want to live downtown Waikiki or Honolulu. But that will give them a lot longer drive to work. And there is tons of traffic in the morning on the H1. More going into Honolulu than out though. We lived in Ewa Beach for 1 year and it was hot there. Have them stay away from the old Navy houses called Iroquois point. Looks nice when you see them and it is right on the mouth of Pear Harbor. You can see the ships and subs going in and out. But it is also in the path of the airport. And you here planes everyday all day going over head. If we had a BB gun we could have shot and hot the bottom of the planes as they went into land. We got to know which plane's made more noise. So we would say sounds like Delta is landing now! LOL
  • navymom3

Sunshine and Glassdog- Also Iroquois Point had a  lot of roaches and centipedes even though they say they spray. Even when you house is spotless.
  • sunshine73

glassdog~he graduates 7/8. Craig~ he said he is direct support. oh wow, we are from the south navymom3 where "palmetto bugs"  are around but none in our house. great!
  • glassdog

navymom and craig thanks for all the great info.  I am sending it to my son so he can get and idea of things.

Does anyone know if he will be able to come home on his way to Hawaii or will he have to go there right away.  I am asking, in part, because he has a storage unit that we need to know what he wants to have shipped there.  Also will we have to get his car to San Diego or will it be shipped from Denver?

I know many questions will be answered and he still has a lot to do, but time flies!

  • NavyMom4J

Just a shout out to my CTT... said he Aced his last test and is 90.80 GPA...Got his memorization down! Just had to share -- and he phased up to Phase 3 and is one happy guy this weekend! I think that is so neat that he has phased up so quickly after 6 weeks.

  • glassdog

    Great news Navymom4!
  • NavyMom4J

THANKS!  Sounds like you are from Denver too?
  • NavyMom4J

glassdog- I was hoping my would put down Hawaii but he tells me he wants Denver - I think he is homesick for cooler weather after the hot days there in P'Cola...Selfishly I want him to pick Hawaii so i can go visit him-- HA! HA! Would be nice to have him close.
  • Craig

Like three, I'm from Denver too....

glassdog - Where is his car now?  When my kid was in P-cola, we shipped his car from New Orleans, then we flew to Colorado.  He could drive it to California himself and gain the extra travel pay and time, It just depends if he wants to do that or not.

When he gets to Hawaii, he will be in the Aloha club, and will not start work for 2 months.  So they will allow him the time to travel.  He doesn't need to worry about that....Just make dang sure he has his it noted that he's shipping a car.  The car shipping is another set of hoops.  So you really need to get those areas looked at soon.  I needs to verify from the shipment people if his car is on the recall list, because if you don't, and it is, then they won't ship it.

NavyMom good deal on the 90.80%.... Woo-hoo!!!!

  • glassdog

Thanks Craig.  I will get this info to him.  We are so happy and excited for him.  This has  been a dream of his.

Also when we talked to you at the packing party I said we would get a web site for you.  We are still trying to get ahold of his nephew.  He is a pilot and is in and out and trying to catch up to him has been crazy!

  • navymom3

Navymom4- Tell your sailor that it rarely gets to 90 in Hawaii. In the summer it is usually around 85 and in the winter about 75. If he lives on the right area on the Island it is about 10 degrees cooler. And you get the sea breeze. Maybe that would help.
  • Craig

I tell you, I've always loved this picture of the USS Reagan at Pearl Harbor....

  • mumziepooh

CTR son said most of his class got their verbals last week but there were a few that didn't. He said most are Stateside and he put Japan, Japan and Japan down and he's hoping, since he is top of class right now (though there are 3 of them that switch places each test and none got their orders) that he might be getting something overseas.  We shall see.  I told him I felt sure that the Navy wouldn't let him just sit around in Pensacola!  He grads Aug 5.
  • Wendi, CTR mom

My daughter has been in Hawaii for 3 weeks now, and she loves it. She got to come home for 3 weeks after school and they shipped her car from New Orleans. She lives on Pearl Harbor and has an ocean view from her room.
  • navymom3

Wendi- So glad she likes it there in Hawaii. We lived there for 3 years. When you plan a trip to visit Hawaiian Airlines usually has great deals for rt tickets. We used to fly them all the time. And they fly from Sacremento which is close to you. I have relatives who live in Chico. Sign up for there club and they will email you specials.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

I have a question for all of you. My son is waiting for his security clearance and is at Corry. (He was re-classed from aviation to CTT). He left me a message on FB last night that his "fingerprints didn't go through". I'm assuming that this means that they will redo them and run them through again? He was 18 (and right out of high school) with no criminal history at all, when he went in the Navy.  I would assume that this means that they may have been unreadable and need to be redone?  His phone is broken right now and he is supposed to get the new one today, so until I see him on the computer, I have no idea what's going on.  Anyone have any words of wisdom for me on this?  Thanks
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Wendi, what an awesome room, that your daughter has.  Wow!

mumziepooh, I will be keeping fingers crossed for your sailor to get the orders that he wants.

sunshine and glassdog, my daughter just moved to Hawaii in May, after her college graduation, to be with her Navy fiance and they are sharing a house with another Navy couple.  They are in Kailua and I think she said it takes him 20 minutes to get to work from there. They are actually only a block from the beach. She walks to the beach almost every day and loves it!  My daughter got a job at a tea room there and will be loving life for the next year.  (Her bf isn't re-enlisting).  My son is waiting to start A school for CTT, and who knows, they may end up there together.  Wouldn't that be wild, to have son and daughter in Hawaii at the same time?  I'm already saving my airline miles to visit my daughter and might need to save more for another visit after my son finishes his C school.  lol

  • navymom3

Betsy- Kailua is a nice place to live there on Oahu. As you know that is were the president stays when he visits also.

  • glassdog

Thanks for the information on Hawaii you are all giving!  It really helps to know where to at least start when you are starting an adventure like this.  Even though it is our sons adventure we feel included also.  I am forwarding your info and ideas to him as they come in.
  • sunshine73

Thanks everyone!  We are already thinking about planning a trip.lol
  • boilermom

Does anyone know the most likely places that a CTR can be stationed?

Betsy Proud mom..- he probably just has to have them re-printed.  Some people's fingertips are very dry and don't print well.

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

My son's class got their orders Friday   3 are going to Ft Meade, one to Georgia? and the rest to Hawaii   Although I guess its based on the needs of the navy so perhaps next week their needs could be different
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

boilermom, thanks, that's what I'm thinking and hoping.  :)

Angie, I would love it, if my son would get Ft. Meade.  We are about 20 minutes from there.  :)   Of course, he probably wouldn't like that.  lol

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Besty sent you a friend request   Since my son is going to be your neighbor I'ld like to ask you occassional questions about the area when he gets there (not until August)
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Angie, no problem, I'd love to help.  If he needs a home cooked meal or just to get off base for a little while, I'm not far too.  :)
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Finally talked to my son last night because he got his new phone and he did say that they will redo his fingerprinting.  Poor guy has been in Pensacola since Dec. "10 and still has to wait even longer to begin his A school.  :(   (he was re-classed from aviation to CTT in Apr.)  I'm so glad that we are going to see him in a couple of weeks.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

clockard, thanks I will join now.  Is it still ok for me to join if my son isn't station at Ft. Meade?  We just live close to Ft. Meade, but he is in Pensacola.
  • Craig

boiler - He can pull up the billets (jobs) on his NKO account.  It should show what's available for the next 12 months...
